I am trying to configure redundancy with SSO and I need to get the same IOS on both supervisors. My issue is that I get an error when I try to copy the IOS from either the sup-bootdisk or the disk0 to the slavesupbootdisk. The Error is Invalid argument.
I have tried also to tftp to the slavesupbootdisk and get the same result.
I have 2 Chassis 6506-E with sup 720. one of them work properly(Switch1) but another(Switc2) not boot form bootdisk and go to ROMMON mode. I Captured IOS from Switch1 with tftp but I cant Copy this image to switch 2 with tftp.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCustomer is using SUP720 with SP rommon image version 8.1(3), he is trying to boot the new ios image from disk0, but he gets invalid magic error. he fomat the disk0 but still he gets error when he boots from disk0. He suspect that it can't be flash problem but can be software of hardware as he has two flash with same issue on 2 switches.
Customer wanted to recreate, I tried in the lab, i was able to load from disk0, but sup in lab had 8.5(4).
Customer wanted me try with 8.1(3) version. But i was unable to downgrade the SP Rommon image. SP rommon is running in Gold region and I loaded the 8.1(3) from both disk0 and sup-bootdisk, even preferrence was given to region1 but still sup came up with gold region itself.
* Will i be able to downgrade from 8.5(4) to 8.1(3), if so, what are the steps.
* is there any limitation or bug where 8.1(3) will be unable to read disk0.
how can we upgrade 6500 non modular ios to normal 6500 ios?

It seems I have seen this before (and even done it once a few years ago).. but it has been a while. I have a stack with a Cisco 3750 stack that I have to replace a member.The replacement switch is a 3750X.
I think I have to upgrade the IOS of the older switch to be the same as the 3750X.

It seems to me there was a way to upgrade the older switch IOS from the newer switch or downgrade the newer switch with the older IOS.I dont have the Cisco account to download updated IOSs.

The problem is the switches interface never comes up so try to connect to the tftp server. I read on google it can't be done on a switch to copy from tftp to flash in rommon mode on a switch and to use XMODEM. My problem is I do not have access to it, I ssh into a 3640 which is an access server for all devices and that is how I have console to it, how to use XMODEM over ssh.
But I'm fairly certain that there has to be a way to just copy it from tftp? I have a 3550 local and when I put it in rommon mode it stops the port check at port, port 1 goes from green when you plug it in to off then port 2 changes to amber and the rest green. So just by the look of this I would believe tftp would work; you just need to use port 1.

I am trying to configure a switch that was given to me. They don't know the password to anything. I have already tried to recover it. The problem is, the switch doesn't load flash, or will copy flash from xmodem either. It also doesnt load the helper or boot. It is user mode and lets me do nothing. It doesnt let me use the enable command to get into it. I would like to start the config from scratch. Its a 3500xl switch, 24 ports. I dont know what to do with it. I was thinking of getting another 870 series (probably an 877) router, as the more expensive wireless option is not actually required. This means that i need to backup the cureent (old) ios to my tftp server but the command keeps failing. i have major problem with two new Small Business 300 Series switches.Everytime i try to save the running config i get a GUI error message: "Another copy process is active, please try again later."It's also not possible to re-flash the firmware because the GUI stops responding.I have also tried to do this via console access and this produces a "the copy utility is occupied by another user" error message.-> so this is not a browser based problem.My first thought was that the switch (SG 300-28) is faulty so i unpacked the next new one (SF 300)and got the same error messages!Then i had a 2 hour webex support session with the Cisco Small Business Support and they did not found a reason for this behavior.Both switches are working normally, you can configure them, but after a reboot they are back to factory default again There is no possibilty for copy running config to startup config and it's also not possible to flash the firmware.(Web GUI & Console). tell me if this is a fundamental problem of the 300 Series?
View 6 Replies View RelatedTwo computers (XP and Win7) connected on office LAN, cisco 2960, not same switches, but all in the same rack, and link togeter, same IP subnet, tried to copy some kind of 26G files from one to another, using Windows share folders, and it showed need 23 hours to finish the copying.It's not the first time, actually we always experienced very slow speed when copying files on Windows share folders. Did not see any particualler message on the switch. ports are all full/100m.

The ATA flash card was formated successfully, however I cannot copy the system image to it so that it can boot after a power loss.

I used VACL and achieved success to some extent, but my config is making clients take up to 5-6 mins to authenticate IP address from the DNS (bootps).My VACL config was as follows:
Subnet to restrict is 10.100.15.0 (VLAN 15)
STEP 1: Created extended ACL to allow bootpc/bootps through DNS
ip access-list extended EACL_DNS
permit udp any eq bootps any
permit udp any eq bootpc any
STEP 2: Created standard ACLs to allow only relevant subnet, server VLANs & some IPs from other subnets for printers/scanners etc.
ip access-list standard SACL_VLAN_15
permit 10.100.15.0 0.0.0.255 (the subnet I'm restricting)
permit 10.100.50.0 0.0.0.255 (server VLANs)
permit 10.100.25.45 0.0.0.0 (printer in another VLAN which has to have access in VLAN 15)

2. As mentioned its taking quiet some time to negotiate with the DNS server at system boot time.
I used to "ip routing" command in order to enable inter-vlan routing, for example with 3750 cisco. I have a 6503 cisco with SUP720 MSFC3. I was able to create some vlans but I can not configure inter-vlan routing.

I have tried to test copy tftp: numerous time with no success. I believe the reason it is failing is my laptop to Ethernet port is in vlan 62 and the tftp process operates in a different IP space.I am using gig 7/1 and configuring my laptop nic for x.x.x.254 mask 255.255.255.0. I can ping from laptop to gateway) and I can ping from the switch to my laptop using ping vrf production x.x.x.254. Can you tell me what vlan I need to set my laptop connection in or if there is something else I need to change to make tftp work on vlan62?Does TFTP only work in vlan1 or can it be changed?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are setup like a hotel style workers camp. We have wings full of rooms and residents with 3750 stacks in them. Those switches connect back to our core 6500's. The network is mostly all Layer 3, interfaces are routed with IPs.
When it was built before my time they included an ACL for each wing so that residents couldn't access internal devices (IE SSH to 6500) but I've come to notice it's not working.
I see hits on the ACL for accepts but nothing is hitting the deny rule at the top.Here is the configuration below:

On googling I came across documents that say OTV (Overlay Transport Virtualization) is supported on Cat 6500. Any authentic information whether OTV is supported on Cat 6500, especially with Sup-720B? FYI, Cisco Feature Navigator does not mention it.
