Jun 2, 2012I used to "ip routing" command in order to enable inter-vlan routing, for example with 3750 cisco. I have a 6503 cisco with SUP720 MSFC3. I was able to create some vlans but I can not configure inter-vlan routing.

What is a routed mac entry? Are there any issues with running that mac aging-time command?
We also plan to run this command "mac-address-table aging-time 14400" to keep our ARP and CAM tables on the same aging time to reduce unicast flooding on our network. Can we run this command with the "routed-mac" command above?

Apr 25, 2013I am on a call right now troubleshooting some latency issue. The CPU usage on the sup card is low. Don't see any drops or input errors. I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized?My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.

Dec 8, 2011The last few days I've been exploring options in getting rid of some old routers accross a wan connections. I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

Feb 25, 2013We have two catalyst 3560 switches running c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin They are connected using etherchannel using gi 0/21 - 24 interfaces.
on 3560-1 switch, there isn't any ip-default gateway or ip route configured. It only have 1 interface vlan configured.
on 3560-2 switch, there is ip default gateway configured along with 1 interface vlan.
What i dont understand here is that, i can reach out to other subnets from 3560-1 switch in which the routing is not enabled?

May 9, 2013I'm looking to restrict Inter-VLAN routing through L3 switch (cisco 6500) and wanted to know best possible way to do it. I used VACL and achieved success to some extent, but my config is making clients take up to 5-6 mins to authenticate IP address from the DNS (bootps).My VACL config was as follows:
Subnet to restrict is 10.100.15.0 (VLAN 15)
STEP 1: Created extended ACL to allow bootpc/bootps through DNS
ip access-list extended EACL_DNS
permit udp any eq bootps any
permit udp any eq bootpc any
STEP 2: Created standard ACLs to allow only relevant subnet, server VLANs & some IPs from other subnets for printers/scanners etc.
ip access-list standard SACL_VLAN_15
permit 10.100.15.0 0.0.0.255 (the subnet I'm restricting)
permit 10.100.50.0 0.0.0.255 (server VLANs)
permit 10.100.25.45 0.0.0.0 (printer in another VLAN which has to have access in VLAN 15)
STEP 3: Created VLAN access list
vlan access-map VACL_15 10
match ip address EACL_DNS
action forward
vlan access-map VACL_15 20
match ip address SACL_15
action forward
STEP 4: Applying VLAN Access list on VLAN 15 vlan filter VACL_15 vlan-list 15 Though the above works, below is noted:
1. I'm still able to PING 10.100.15.2 (the switch virtual interface) from outside the subnet, which I don't intend to do so. Howeve all cients in the subnet have no connectivity from outside the VLAN 15.
2. As mentioned its taking quiet some time to negotiate with the DNS server at system boot time.

Mar 22, 2013I created new VDCs. Since I have done so, there is not switchport command under the interface configuration.
The interesting this is that it is available on the admin VDC, but not the new VDC I created. I cannot create a peer VPC Peer link between my 2 Nexus switches. I did allocate ports to the new VDC and I did verify the enabled feature are the same.
why the switchport command is not available?

Sep 20, 2012I am seeing a strange situation on my 6500 switch?By having snmp walk on '1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3' (== cpmCPUTotal5sec), I came to know that there are two processor and the cpu util for switching processor is gone to 88 % and some time creeps to 99 %.

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3.1 = Gauge32: 12 (--- this is for CPU of Router Processor )

but when I do sh process cpu on the console, all looks normal as it shows cpu utilization of RP. why the value is so high on the switching processor ?

May 6, 2012I just needed more insite into the function of the ip tcp adjust-mss command which can be used to adjust the MSS value in the tcp syn packet which passes that interface. But here is a question which I had. Consider that i have two sets of systems in my LAN one with an MTU value of 1300 ( MSS 1260 ) and with a MTU of 1500 ( MSS -1460 ). If I go ahead and put an ip tcp adjust-mss 1456 (for reducing the packet size from 1500 to 1496) on the WAN . Does the command only lower the MSS for the set of systems which have 1460 or will it also increase the MSS in the tcp syn packets send by systems with MSS of 1260 ( which can potentially break some communication ).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: IP Igmp Filter Command On 2960G?
Jun 21, 2012I am unable to configure an interface using the "ip igmp filter <profile #>" command on a 2960G running 12.2(58)SE2. The switch allows me to create a profile using the "ip igmp profile <profile #>" global configuration command. It also lets me enable filtering with the global "ip igmp filter" command (which I didn't see in the documentation). But, the command is not accepted when configuring an interface. "ip igmp ?" does not even show "filter" as a valid auto-complete when in configure interface mode, and the command is rejected if I try to enter it.
I verified the command worked on a much earlier version of IOS, so it must have broken somewhere along the line. I'm wary of moving up to 15.0(1)SE. Is that a major IOS change?
