Feb 20, 2012I'm installing a new 6506E switch and I want to use dual supervisor redundancy. I also have a spare sup 32 from another switch which i'm not using right now.I want to save some money. My question is Can I use one sup 720 as primary and the 2nd redundant sup 32 as a secondary on the same 6506E switch?

Dec 8, 2011The last few days I've been exploring options in getting rid of some old routers accross a wan connections. I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

This is what I see in bootvar.

Standby not ready to show bootvar, I want to remove SXF8 and leave SXI8 alone. I removed both IOS file names in boot system and added the SXI8 again and saved. So this would be the output after.
But after a switch restart, this would be the output of show bootvar again.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6506E SUP2T QOS Channel Consistency
May 21, 2012I have a catalyst 6506E (WS-C6506-E) with a SUP2T supervisor (VS-S2T-10G) card and a 10G interface card (WS-X6816-10G-2T) + DFC4.I have configured an etherchannel to another switch with the 2 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card and 2 10giga ports of the interface card.I only use the 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card so the cards have the same QOS transmit capabilities.But they do not have the same receive capabilities.
So when I configure QOS (with the new commands on SUP2T) on my 4 ports within the Etherchannel, 2 ports move down because of the inconsistency.
Till this point, no surprise.
The problem is that the command "no platform qos channel consistency" replacing the "no mls qos channel-consistency" does not exist.I run the last IOS 12.2(50)SY1 IPSERVICESK9.
And I cannot have QOS on my Etherchannel on the 2 cards.Or I have to use 4 ports of my interface card but in case of failure of this card, I loose the whole etherchannel.I there a way to avoid the consistency check ?

I can configure route-map commands on that. but i can not apply that into any vlan interface. while i try to apply the following command ( ip policy route-map PBR) on VLAN int i get an error msg saying that the command is not recognized.

The STP root and Secondary root are currently configured across these switches.Can I enable the peer-switch command in this configuration without impacting services, and then modify both switches to have the same bridge priority without impacting services ? We have a few downstream 5ks which are not dual homed to both vPC peers (work in progress) so need to understand if the peer-switch command will in any way break this connectivity for now.

Dec 23, 2012I describe an issue when i need to performe an L2 or L3 Etherchannel from a Catalyst 4948 IOS Enterprise and 2 xCatalyst 6506E bandled with VSS.
From the VSS Side when i plug cables i see on the physicals and Etherchannel that Physical and protocole layer are up. On the 4948 side, I see that physical layer is up and protocol and Etherchannel interfaces are down.
On the Etherchannel port summary i see that the port state is supended.
On the first attempt, i have test with a L3 etherchannel on both side using no switchport with two IP addresses one at each side on etherchannel interfaces.
The etherchannel are bundled with LACP mode active and on the second attempt with PAGP mode ON.
The same configured on VSS 6506E work fine with Catalyst 3560E.

Feb 9, 2012We have 20+ VLANs on our main network, we have an offsite connected by metro GIG fiber ethernet. Right now, we have a layer 2 connection to there with the core at the main site as the gateway. We have had problems occationaly with the metro ethernet's spanning tree which then we would see our own network and cause an outage, not only for the offsite, but since the VLAN would see itself (not on our equipment but the metro ethernet carrier's) it would effect the main network as well.
What I was going to do to resolve this was change the connection to a routed network, however I need to still send some VLANs over the routed network (there are some applications that require to be on the same subnet as the server). Is there a way to Map the Vlan 10, and 11 at the main site to a vlan 10, and 11 at the remote site using a routed network? I noticed there is something about bridging, would I bridge the VLAN accross the routed MAN connection? Then would I bridge back the other way as well?
Main site has a 6506E
and offsite has a 3750E

This means that i need to backup the cureent (old) ios to my tftp server but the command keeps failing. It always gives 'No such file or directory' error .The free space on the flash is 8mb and my new ios is about 11mb.I also went inside the directory where the old is and inputed the same copy command but to no avail.Below are some of the command failure on the swicth:

Dec 5, 2012I have been working on some Catalyst 3750's running 12.2(55)SE6 and hit an issue with CEF load-balancing over multiple equal-cost paths. Anyway this issue is now solved but it introduced me to the command 'show platform forward' - this shows you how the forwarding of a packet would be done via hardware cef (as opposed to the command 'sho ip cef exact-route' command that only shows the software cef path). Anyway I tried the command on a 3560G running 15.0(2)SE and it crashes the switch. I tried it a couple of times and verified that the MAC & IP addresses were exactly right in the command and each time the switch crashes. I have extracted the relevant bits from the crashinfo and attached them.

Feb 25, 2013We have two catalyst 3560 switches running c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin They are connected using etherchannel using gi 0/21 - 24 interfaces.
on 3560-1 switch, there isn't any ip-default gateway or ip route configured. It only have 1 interface vlan configured.
on 3560-2 switch, there is ip default gateway configured along with 1 interface vlan.
What i dont understand here is that, i can reach out to other subnets from 3560-1 switch in which the routing is not enabled?
