I'm installing a new 6506E switch and I want to use dual supervisor redundancy. I also have a spare sup 32 from another switch which i'm not using right now.I want to save some money. My question is Can I use one sup 720 as primary and the 2nd redundant sup 32 as a secondary on the same 6506E switch?

I am upgrading a Cisco 6506E VSS from 12.2(33)SXI5 to 12.2(33)SXJ5 during a maintenance window. So I have plenty of time to reboot the VSS. Confirm below is the correct procedure. I have manually copied the new IOS to both active and standby Sup720s.
no boot system
boot system flash sup-bootdisk:NEW_IOS.bin
boot system flash sup-bootdisk:OLD_IOS.bin
!
copy run start
reload
I was going through the below cisco document and there are a few more steps as below: Is it necessary?
[URL]
Router(config)# no boot system

Does the port adaptor PA-MC-2E1/120 work with the Catalyst Switch 6506E (Sup Engine: 720-3B)? We have bought a Enhanced FlexWAN card for this port adaptor.I read through the cisco website and seem to get confusing answers whether they are compatible.

I'm trying to boot this IOS on a 6506-E, s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI8.bin.
This is what I see in bootvar.
sh bootvar
BOOT variable = disk0:s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI8.bin,1;disk0:s72033-ipservicesk9-mz.122-18.SXF8.bin,1;
CONFIG_FILE variable =
BOOTLDR variable =
Configuration register is 0x2102
Standby not ready to show bootvar, I want to remove SXF8 and leave SXI8 alone. I removed both IOS file names in boot system and added the SXI8 again and saved. So this would be the output after.
But after a switch restart, this would be the output of show bootvar again.
sh bootvar
BOOT variable = disk0:s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI8.bin,1;disk0:s72033-ipservicesk9-mz.122-18.SXF8.bin,1;
CONFIG_FILE variable =
BOOTLDR variable =
Configuration register is 0x2102
Is there anything I need to check? This is an old engine and I'm not sure if the variables of the RP modified .

I have a catalyst 6506E (WS-C6506-E) with a SUP2T supervisor (VS-S2T-10G) card and a 10G interface card (WS-X6816-10G-2T) + DFC4.I have configured an etherchannel to another switch with the 2 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card and 2 10giga ports of the interface card.I only use the 10Giga ports of the SUP2T card so the cards have the same QOS transmit capabilities. But they do not have the same receive capabilities.
So when I configure QOS (with the new commands on SUP2T) on my 4 ports within the Etherchannel, 2 ports move down because of the inconsistency.
Till this point, no surprise.
The problem is that the command "no platform qos channel consistency" replacing the "no mls qos channel-consistency" does not exist.I run the last IOS 12.2(50)SY1 IPSERVICESK9.
And I cannot have QOS on my Etherchannel on the 2 cards.Or I have to use 4 ports of my interface card but in case of failure of this card, I loose the whole etherchannel.I there a way to avoid the consistency check ?

I would like to know if any additional power would be needed for a 3845 (currently with one (1) NME-XD-48ES-2S-P) to which another 24-port switch module is added. Thus, I would have two (2) switch modules on the 3845 for a total of 72 ports.
I have been unable to find specific power requirements detailing the requirements with 1 ethernet module, 2, etc.

I describe an issue when i need to performe an L2 or L3 Etherchannel from a Catalyst 4948 IOS Enterprise and 2 xCatalyst 6506E bandled with VSS.
From the VSS Side when i plug cables i see on the physicals and Etherchannel that Physical and protocole layer are up. On the 4948 side, I see that physical layer is up and protocol and Etherchannel interfaces are down.
On the Etherchannel port summary i see that the port state is supended.
On the first attempt, i have test with a L3 etherchannel on both side using no switchport with two IP addresses one at each side on etherchannel interfaces.
The etherchannel are bundled with LACP mode active and on the second attempt with PAGP mode ON.
The same configured on VSS 6506E work fine with Catalyst 3560E.

We have 20+ VLANs on our main network, we have an offsite connected by metro GIG fiber ethernet. Right now, we have a layer 2 connection to there with the core at the main site as the gateway. We have had problems occationaly with the metro ethernet's spanning tree which then we would see our own network and cause an outage, not only for the offsite, but since the VLAN would see itself (not on our equipment but the metro ethernet carrier's) it would effect the main network as well.
What I was going to do to resolve this was change the connection to a routed network, however I need to still send some VLANs over the routed network (there are some applications that require to be on the same subnet as the server). Is there a way to Map the Vlan 10, and 11 at the main site to a vlan 10, and 11 at the remote site using a routed network? I noticed there is something about bridging, would I bridge the VLAN accross the routed MAN connection? Then would I bridge back the other way as well?
Main site has a 6506E
and offsite has a 3750E

Unforunately I have not been able to find any IOS version requirement for a brand-new 1000BASE-LX10 SFP (MGBLH1) in the internet.
The IOS version in use on this stack is:Cisco IOS Software, C3750 Software (C3750-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE6, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
[Code]...
I have searched for this error and beside a third-party module (this is a Cisco SFP) the reason could be that newer IOS version is required. Before I'll request an IOS update to the stack with our internal team, IOS version required for this module to run properly and maybe a link to an overview to lookup such requirements in the future.

I just wanted to know that that are we supposed to run the SSO command on both of the supervisors? Secondly, are we only supposed to run the nsf process under EIGRP on the secondary supervisor and routing peers and not on the primary supervisor?

After stacking two 3750X switches, with four equal power-supply's, with StackWise and PowerStack , still got the next message every few hours %PLATFORM_ENV-1-FRU_PS_ACCESS: FRU Power Supply is not responding (gn4m-rt1p08-04-2)( note that the message revers to the second switch in the stack ) although the stackwise and powerstack on the switches is oke and are working correctly. !
Config : Stack-power in power-sharing mode/strict With CLI on the switch : All the power supply's and stack-power details, prio look OK.
Only: LMS prime /inventory/cisco-view/configure/power supply status result : some power supply's are marked as disabled.with the command > power supply 2 slot a off/on I manage to get the status back to "normal", but after a few hours some power supply's are again marked as "disabled".
Looks like SNMP en IOS difference from opinion.

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment I am using the default configuration:
power-redudancy mode redundant
The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.
I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.
So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"
The 6500 config guide states:
"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."
Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

In a stand alone 3750x switch configuration, can the secondary power supply only act as a redundant power supply (active/standby), or can it become a "pool" of power similar to power sharing mode for StackPower (somewhat active/active)? I understand there is no stack involved here but I'm curious if this functionality is possible.

I recently bought a bunch of cisco 3750-x switches. I configured them all and started deploying them. A day later, some of the switches started failing on me. When I connect the power cord to the AC main, the power supply module on the back shows "AC OK" LED Green but the "PS OK" LED shows Red. I started referring to the installation guide and it told me that "PS OK" LED turns RED when output has failed. Guessing this I checked with another power supply module that was working, but still I get the same LED indicators. The original power supply module works with other switches.IOS crash...?

I got some specs here that I can't seem to match with any existing switch - unless the 350CG-8PC-S can be powered by PoE.Let me quickly put down the important specs.
8x Gigabit ports
2x 1G Copper or 1G SFP Uplinks (It'll be a 1x Copper and 1x SFP setup)
support for PoE passthrough ( so just capable of it, provided it's 2x Copper Uplinks )
Does that match the 350CG-8PC-S ?

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked. If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch? My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply. I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack. I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports? If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work. Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption. Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

We are planning for the office move and I need to estimate how much power we need to run a fully populated Cat4507R switch. The chassis include 2 Sups, one 6-port fiber line card, two 48-port Gig and two 48-port FastEthernet line cards. The switch also has redundant power supply (4200ACV 1400W). According to Cisco Power Calculator [URL], I need 49.5 amp 110-120V circuit. It seems to be too much higher than real world. How many 20amp circuit we would need when all the ports are fully utilized?

I got a Cisco 2960-S LAN (support PoE+) switch installed in one of my customers' office. The customer needs to plug some cameras to the switch and need inline power from the swtich.
Two of the cameras requires 24W power in order to work correctly, if just use normal PoE power, can't get all functions working and get an error message on the screen says "not enough power" or something like that. I have configured those two port to static power inline (on a max value which is 30W). Once the configuration applied, shut/ no shut the port, the error message disappeares for a few minutes, and then comes back. Looks like the power level is still on PoE not PoE+.
Is there anything I can do on the configuration to increase the inline power and provide a stable power to that kind of devices?
