Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Power 3560CG-8PC-S By PoE

Sep 4, 2012

I got some specs here that I can't seem to match with any existing switch - unless the 350CG-8PC-S can be powered by PoE.Let me quickly put down the important specs.

8x Gigabit ports
2x 1G Copper or 1G SFP Uplinks (It'll be a 1x Copper and 1x SFP setup)
support for PoE passthrough ( so just capable of it, provided it's 2x Copper Uplinks )

Does that match the 350CG-8PC-S ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3560CG IOS Release 15

Oct 11, 2011

When will Cisco release the IOS release 15 for Catalyst 3560CG? We need it because of the critical voice feature (authentication event server dead action authorize voice) for 802.1x.

Actually only release 12.2(55)EX3 is available for the 3560CG-8PC-S models. The funny part is that for older 3560-12PC-S models there is release 15 already available.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560CG Failing To Open Ports?

Mar 30, 2013

I have a number of 3560CG-8PC-S switches. My intention for them is to act as kind of gateway L3 switches - one for each satellite site. My thinking was simply to have an L3 device at the gateway to each of those sites so that any inter-vlan traffic within each site can stay within the site rather than having to traverse the relatively slow radio links to get back to the 3750X stack in the core. They are also, however, going to be directly serving client devices

My issue is that for some reason, when connecting a new device (laptop etc) to one of the access ports on the 3560's, the port behaves as if it's being blocked. No DHCP addresses go through, the indicator remains orange, and the clients have no connectivity. However, if I wipe the config, I get a VLAN 1 IP address for my client no problems at all. And to make matters more confusing, only two out of my four 3560's are doing this. The other two have exactly the same config, but work perfectly.To that end, I'm loading the config below. I've followed that by the show running-config output, and show ip interface brief outputs.

configure terminal
hostname ASW34

enable secret *RuT1l3&
service password-encryption

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560CG Switch Terminate On Internet Modem

Feb 4, 2013

I am facing with Cisco 3560CG Switch. We have a Cisco WS-C3560CG-8PC-S (Cisco Catalyst 3560-C Switch, 8 GE PoE, 2 dual-purpose uplinks, IP Base image) switch which will be a core switch and the internet link from the ISP is terminated on a Modem. The ISP configured the internet modem and provided the details such as Gateway IP, Subnet Mask, DNS IP address, Usable IP Address Block,  to configure the switch, where ew have connacted the Modem. When, I verified the details, there were only 4 IP addresses available under Usable IP address block. Spoke with the ISP and they confirmed that they cannot increase the IP Addresses (some limitation on the Modem) in the pool and we have to do NATing at the switching (Which we can't do, because of IP Base image limitation). About the network, it will be a flat network with only one VLAN which is used for Wireless Guest Access.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Power-Redundancy Mode Combined And Power Fail

Feb 28, 2011

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment  I am using the default configuration:

power-redudancy mode redundant

The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.

I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.

So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"

The 6500 config guide states:

"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."

Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Stand Alone Secondary Power Supply Act As Pool Of Power

Apr 4, 2012

In a stand alone 3750x switch configuration, can the secondary power supply only act as a redundant power supply (active/standby), or can it become a "pool" of power similar to power sharing mode for StackPower (somewhat active/active)?  I understand there is no stack involved here but I'm curious if this functionality is possible.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750-x Won't Power Up

When I connect the power cord to the AC main, the power supply module on the back shows "AC OK" LED Green but the "PS OK" LED shows Red. I started referring to the installation guide and it told me that "PS OK" LED turns RED when output has failed. Guessing this I checked with another power supply module that was working, but still I get the same LED indicators.The original power supply module works with other switches.IOS crash...?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Power Needs For PoE

Mar 21, 2013

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked.  If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch?  My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply.  I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack.  I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports?  If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work.  Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption.  Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Increase PoE Power On 2960-s

Oct 16, 2012

I got a Cisco 2960-S LAN (support PoE+) switch installed in one of my customers' office. The customer needs to plug some cameras to the switch and need inline power from the swtich.

Two of the cameras requires 24W power in order to work correctly, if just use normal PoE power, can't get all functions working and get an error message on the screen says "not enough power" or something like that. I have configured those two port to static power inline (on a max value which is 30W). Once the configuration applied, shut/ no shut the port, the error message disappeares for a few minutes, and then comes back. Looks like the power level is still on PoE not PoE+.

Is there anything I can do on the configuration to increase the inline power and provide a stable power to that kind of devices?
