a switch port is shutdown, but when i use NO SHUTDOWN command it is working and shows administratively down. like this command does not affect on it. i should enable this port? what can i do btw, port is not in errdisable and portfast is enabled.
View 3 RepliesI have configured a SVI in my 4500 ( Sup 7-E 10GE,,,,,,and,,,,,cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.02.00.SG.150-2.SG.bin) switch and it is showing Down Down, because there were no active switch port in the vlan, I added one switch port to this vlan but this port also in the down state, so i added the SWITCH PORT AUTO STATE EXCLUDE command under this port, even after this also the SVI never came up, So i added one systen to the port so both the switch port and the SVI came up...So why SWITCH PORT AUTO STATE EXCLUDE command have no effect in this model of the switch..

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using a catalyst 2970 switch for 2 vlans. Corporate data and a separate VLAN for backups. What I want to do is create an LACP etherchannel to the switch and also trunk these ports so the server is part of both VLANS.Due to fact that some of these servers are on totally separated networks, they really shouldn't be able to talk to the backup server. Creating the VLAN for backups works to achieve this. I plan to create inbound ACLs on each port to allow only the ports and IPs for the backup network and allow everything we need for corporate data.I read somewhere that you can't have ACLs on an etherchannel and I just want to get it all straightened out. I notice I can't add an access group to the port-channel itself but I can on the port- channel member ports. Is this all I need to do or does this not work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a continuation of my last post in which I need to apply ACLs to the physical ports within Etherchannels. The switch is a Catalyst 2970 running IOS 12.2. These Etherchannels are configured as trunks with 2 VLANS allowed on each trunk.I have applied an inbound ACL on the physical ports that filters based on layer 3 and layer 4 traffic. The issue that I am seeing is that the counters for the ACL are not increasing even though the ACL is clearly doing its job. At the end of the ACL I have an entry of "permit ip any any". Removing this from the list causes connectivity problems to the server on this port. Adding it back and everything is back to normal. However the counters don't increase. At first I thought maybe this wasn't supported on this switch but then I noticed the counter had increased to "2 matches" later in the day. What is the normal behavior is for this switch and does it support logging on an ACL entry as well.

This switch is situated on a remote site and on the 6th of January it was rebooted.
I still do not know the cause, but it might be power outage or smth. We are still checking. After the reboot I've noticed that one port on this cisco switch is in 'notconnect' state, while I'm pretty sure it should be 'connected'.
I've tried to shutdown the port adminstratevly and do the 'no shutdown' but this port remained in 'disable' state.

I have a doubt. In my environment I have two Switch 3750-X in stack.
My question is: How to shutdown remotely only a switch in stack?
I have a single 2960s without stack module. The stack port has a status of down, however I'd like to disable it so that it does not generate a false alarm in my NMS. The documentation states that there should be a command "switch 1 stack port 1 disable" but the switch (running 15.0(2)SE2) doesn't seem to be available. Is this a dcumentation bug or is the command not there at all?

We have the following networks:
VLAN 1 production, 192.168.1.0
VLAN 10 backup internet connection, 192.168.100.0, Interface 100.2
VLAN 41 wireless guests, 192.168.41.0, interface 41.1
VLAN routing provided by Dell 6224 switch and other switching is Cisco 2970 (L2) switches.Backup Internet router is SMC (Comcast)
I would like to allow clients on VLAN 41 access the internet connection in VLAN 10 at 192.168.100.1. Clients on VLAN 41 can PING and trace to the default gateway 100.1. VLAN 41 clients are also able to get DHCP info from VLAN 1. NSlookup fails when using the ISP DNS servers. NSlookup is suscessful when using our internal DNS servers, but web pages are not returned. It eventually fails.We've tried to set the DFGW on the clients to both 41.1 and 100.1 with no success.
100.2 know where to find 41.1 interface for the 41.0 network. The router/gateway can PING the clients on VLAN 41, 192.168.41.0 network and visa-vera.
It seems like the clients are not able to get through 100.1 to the internet or the gateway/router doesn't know how to get packets back to the clients.A static entry was made on the router that mapped back to the next hop at 100.2. 1 Someone alluded to a NAT issue, where the returning packets have information for the 100.0 network only and the internet router doesn't know to send the packets through to the 41.1 interface to the clients.
After changing the VTP mode to from client to transparent, I noticed the output of 'show run' now displays the vlans. I don't have any spare 2970s to check this with at the moment. Output of 'show run' looks like this now with vlans info, this was not shown before changing the VTP mode.

I have a Cisco 2970 port 24 configured as a trunk port to handle all 11 vlans. This switch is also plugged into a couple other Cisco switches all is good on that side.
Here comes the ODD ball of the bunch. Since our wondeful execs wont let us buy anymore Cisco switches till our numbers get better they gave me this pos Netgear GSM7224. I know this isnt a Cisco product but someone out these has been thru this before.
The last few days I've been exploring options in getting rid of some old routers accross a wan connections. I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

I try to debug an OSPF and an ICMP problem using the debug ip ospf command and the debug icmp command but not output appear on the terminal. As the switch is remote, I entered the terminal monitor command of course.

I need to enable vPC "peer-switch" command on a pair of Nexus 7018s which are currently vPC peers (primary and secondary). The STP root and Secondary root are currently configured across these switches.Can I enable the peer-switch command in this configuration without impacting services, and then modify both switches to have the same bridge priority without impacting services ? We have a few downstream 5ks which are not dual homed to both vPC peers (work in progress) so need to understand if the peer-switch command will in any way break this connectivity for now.

So I realized to use command "hw-module" to change the module to GE port. However, I am not able to use the command as" I cannot use the command "hw-module uplink" as well.
I am looking to find a command or counter to tell me if a cisco switch port on a 4510 was ever up and passed traffic. I want to shutdown all unused switchports on our access switches. But before I do that I need to make sure device is just not off or the person is away on vacation. If I do sh int interface, is there a counter I can reference.

This means that i need to backup the cureent (old) ios to my tftp server but the command keeps failing. I have been working on some Catalyst 3750's running 12.2(55)SE6 and hit an issue with CEF load-balancing over multiple equal-cost paths. Anyway this issue is now solved but it introduced me to the command 'show platform forward' - this shows you how the forwarding of a packet would be done via hardware cef (as opposed to the command 'sho ip cef exact-route' command that only shows the software cef path). Anyway I tried the command on a 3560G running 15.0(2)SE and it crashes the switch. I tried it a couple of times and verified that the MAC & IP addresses were exactly right in the command and each time the switch crashes. I have extracted the relevant bits from the crashinfo and attached them.

The config is Switch1------Switch2--------Switch3 Each interswitch connection is configured as a dot1q trunk with all vlans allowed. The link between switch2 and 3 is where switchport voice vlan 10 was added. Switch1 is a 3750 and 2/3 are 3560's.
show cdp neighbors command shows two devices connected through the same local port?I have a Cisco 3560 that when I issue the "show cdp neighbors" command I get the following results: [code]
the question is why is this showing that Gig0/3 is being used twice to connect to two different devices. I have verified there is no hub connected to this port and in fact Switch3 is not connected to Switch1 at all yet it still shows up in the CDP table.
I have cleared the CDP table on every device at this location and still get the same results.
I am on a call right now troubleshooting some latency issue. The CPU usage on the sup card is low. Don't see any drops or input errors. I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized?My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.
