I have a Cisco 2970 port 24 configured as a trunk port to handle all 11 vlans. This switch is also plugged into a couple other Cisco switches all is good on that side.
Here comes the ODD ball of the bunch. Since our wondeful execs wont let us buy anymore Cisco switches till our numbers get better they gave me this pos Netgear GSM7224. I know this isnt a Cisco product but someone out these has been thru this before.
We have 2 internet connections- one for production and one as a backup. The backup connection will be used for allowing guest visitors on a wireless network that is on a seperate VLAN.
We have the following networks:
VLAN 1 production, 192.168.1.0
VLAN 10 backup internet connection, 192.168.100.0, Interface 100.2
VLAN 41 wireless guests, 192.168.41.0, interface 41.1
VLAN routing provided by Dell 6224 switch and other switching is Cisco 2970 (L2) switches.Backup Internet router is SMC (Comcast)
I would like to allow clients on VLAN 41 access the internet connection in VLAN 10 at 192.168.100.1. Clients on VLAN 41 can PING and trace to the default gateway 100.1. VLAN 41 clients are also able to get DHCP info from VLAN 1. NSlookup fails when using the ISP DNS servers. NSlookup is suscessful when using our internal DNS servers, but web pages are not returned. It eventually fails.We've tried to set the DFGW on the clients to both 41.1 and 100.1 with no success.
100.2 know where to find 41.1 interface for the 41.0 network. The router/gateway can PING the clients on VLAN 41, 192.168.41.0 network and visa-vera.
It seems like the clients are not able to get through 100.1 to the internet or the gateway/router doesn't know how to get packets back to the clients.A static entry was made on the router that mapped back to the next hop at 100.2. 1 Someone alluded to a NAT issue, where the returning packets have information for the 100.0 network only and the internet router doesn't know to send the packets through to the 41.1 interface to the clients.
we recently aquired a managed services job and have to do a overhaul of the vlan configs and have a whole dozen WC2948G's trunk between a set of ports as well as trunk out a LAG channel setup to non cisco equipment. the deal is the lacp-channel works properly on both ends but no routing of vlans between ports and between the lag trunk are working.
theres alot of settings in the config and im planning on clearing it and starting from scratch but before i do i want to know where my problem lies.

This is a continuation of my last post in which I need to apply ACLs to the physical ports within Etherchannels. The switch is a Catalyst 2970 running IOS 12.2. These Etherchannels are configured as trunks with 2 VLANS allowed on each trunk.I have applied an inbound ACL on the physical ports that filters based on layer 3 and layer 4 traffic. The issue that I am seeing is that the counters for the ACL are not increasing even though the ACL is clearly doing its job. At the end of the ACL I have an entry of "permit ip any any". Removing this from the list causes connectivity problems to the server on this port. Adding it back and everything is back to normal. However the counters don't increase. At first I thought maybe this wasn't supported on this switch but then I noticed the counter had increased to "2 matches" later in the day. What is the normal behavior is for this switch and does it support logging on an ACL entry as well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a catalyst 2970 switch for 2 vlans. Corporate data and a separate VLAN for backups. What I want to do is create an LACP etherchannel to the switch and also trunk these ports so the server is part of both VLANS.Due to fact that some of these servers are on totally separated networks, they really shouldn't be able to talk to the backup server. Creating the VLAN for backups works to achieve this. I plan to create inbound ACLs on each port to allow only the ports and IPs for the backup network and allow everything we need for corporate data.I read somewhere that you can't have ACLs on an etherchannel and I just want to get it all straightened out. I notice I can't add an access group to the port-channel itself but I can on the port- channel member ports. Is this all I need to do or does this not work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter changing the VTP mode to from client to transparent, I noticed the output of 'show run' now displays the vlans. I don't have any spare 2970s to check this with at the moment. Output of 'show run' looks like this now with vlans info, this was not shown before changing the VTP mode.

We currently have a CISCO 4507R (Core Switch) and a CISCO 3560 (Distribution Switch) for the campus wide network. Our network is developed with various VLANS to support Internet and Intranet facilities. The new lab need to be incorporated in to the Campus wide network with a new VLAN ID. But problem is while trunking the CISCO 3560 (Distribution switch) to the CISCO SF300-48P (Access Switch) communication does not happen. While, surfing the internet and various doc's say that SF300 uses GVRP instead of dot1q trunking.

We also have another 2 x 10Gbps LACP links between the 5596 switches to carry non VPC VLANs, this is required to provide EIGRP routing between the switches and an upstream router.I have read that it is possible to setup the vpc keep-alive link over an SVI instead of the management interfaces. Is it ok to run the keep-alive SVI over the second LACP non VPC VLAN trunk or is it recommened to keep this seperate?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have 2 hosts, 1 plugged in fa 0/21 in VLAN 101 and another in fa 0/22 in VLAN 101 on our L2 Cisco 2960. If I try and transfer files from either host the gig 0/1 trunk port on the 2960 leading tot he 3750 fa 0/1 port hits 100mb (using a real time bandwidth monitor tool), but why? This VLAN is on the same switch, why does it go one way up the trunk to the L3 3750 switch? The L3 3750 is the VTP server and the 2960 is a client. I would of thought the traffic stays local. The 2 hosts don't even have a gateway set.To sum up the typology the 2960 and 3750 are trunked using a single cable. The 3750 hangs of a ASA firewall using SVIs.Here is whatthe traffic looks like when copying a file between hosts (2gb file).

I have 2 Cisco 6509 switches linked together via single Fibre as a trunk.I want to change this to a port channel where I will add another 3 fibre ports to the port channel but what order do I do this to minimise any disruption.
1-Configure PortChannel and add the 3 new ports, this will bring up the Port Channel but what effect will this have on traffic currently going over the single Trunk link? Will spanning tree go mad, how will switches react?
2-Convert existing Trunk link to Portchannel then add in new ports to PortChannel, I guess in doing this there will be a small hit on traffic as it changes to a port channel.
I am struggling with a CE520 and its smartports stuff.I have configured the following vlans :
1- data
100 - phones
I need to bring those vlans (both of them) to a Cisco 800 router. The port of the 800 router is already configured as trunk and accepts vlan 1 and 100.The cisco 800 has both vlan 1 and 100 configured with 2 ips on different subnets, and ip routing is enable (to route between two vlans). Also, no access lists are configured.I have configured one port in the switch as role "router" and connected to the router. The other ports are all configured as phone-desktop (phone vlan 100 desktop vlan 1).If I connect a phone and manually configure an ip (the phone gets automatically vlan 100), and try to ping the phone from the router, it doesnt respond. Alse vlan 100 is protocol down.I am guessing what s the right configuration as the link between the switch and the router should be a trunk link for 1 and 100 vlans, but it looks like is transporting only vlan 1.Also changing the port role to "other" when you can specify the native vlan and another vlan, the switch doesnt accept vlan 100 as additional vlan on that link.

I need to set QOS in our new network. We have connected 2 cities together with 700Mbit leased line. They would like the LAG to also pass the voice and two data VLANs currently in use; 5, 10, and 100 respectively. I see no output when I do show lacp nei. At this point the client is looking to use for the configurations to use as he does not know how to setup the SG300 and it is a switch I have never dealt with. I have found some configurations that I believe would allow a single VLAN across, but nothing I believe will allow the LAG to pass all the VLAN's.
I have client who has two distant offices with 3750 L3 as core (do all vlan routing for local office) and multiple L2 access switches with multiple VLAN’s connected to it. First 3750 is hub also connected to internet, second 3750 is spoke and acting as a router on stick. We have eigrp configured on both side ISP provided client 100Mbps link as a trunk with two vlan; vlan10 for voice and vlan20 for data. We assigned two small subnets to these vlans 10.15.17.0/29 and 10.15.17.9/29. Hub addresses are 10.15.17.1 and 10.15.17.9 respectively. How to force voice over VLAN10 and data via vlan20, but still do some load balancing? How to setup default route on second (router on stick) switch?

The I need to verify that vlan0010 on one switch is forwarding tagged traffic between the other switch it is hooked up to through the Gi0/1 port. How do I verify this? I have a server that's multihomed (Broadcom) on the other side an it is supposed to be on this vlan with one of it's network interfaces. We had a pwer outage and now it cannot communicate on this vlan. However, everything else on the vlan can reach all the other nodes accept this server in the front of my building. All the devices in the same room are linked to the same switch which has one port (fa0/17) on vlan0010 and can ping eachother just fine. The server is hooked to port 24 on my server room switch and Gigabit port one goes to a fiber converter all the way to the back. It then gets converted from fiber to cat5e again and links into the switch (2960) in the backroom.

Situation is that we have a pair of Catalyst 4506 switches which have 802.1q trunk ports into a Checkpoint Firewall, this in turn is connected to a managed WAN router (to which I can't apply a QoS policy).If the 4506 was routing the traffic it would be easy to setup a class-map to match the IP traffic and then QoS the traffic, but the VLAN in question is trunked directly into the firewall (no L3/IP presence on the 4506 next hop for all clients on this VLAN is the firewall).What I need to do is restrict any traffic from this specific VLAN to 10Mbps on the uplink to the Checkpoint Firewall so it cannot impact the onward WAN.

My colleague says I need to use COS values across layer 2 trunk links between access layer switches and core switches. My argument is if phones are marking packets with DSCP values I don't need to be concerned with Cos.The reason I ask is we're implementing a new phone system, the ip phones will mark RTP traffic wih dscp value EF and Call signaling with DSCP value of CS3. If my understanding is correct I can trust the dscp values of the phones. We are using Cisco 4507 switches which I believe automatically trust dscp values so I would just need a class-map to match the dscp values and apply the output policy map on the egress interfaces as follows? Our provider has given us a copper cable at each point and we have connected it directly to our 3560 switch at each location. Each port is configured the same way at each location. Each switch is running eigrp.All of the switch ports on each switch are configured as a trunk and vlan 299 had the ip address for the eigrp connection: [code] This setup is working as each switch see's all of the other switches as an eigrp neighbor. We have also made sure that the switch at our head office has spanning tree priority for vlan 299.
So the problem is, if there is a change in the topology at one of the locations it usually causes one or more of the other connections to go down for some reason. We just cannot pinpoint what is causing this change. There are no log's or anything other than an eigrp hold time expired message.?
