I have a test switch (Cisco 3550) that I want to set up with 6 Vlans and 2 trunk ports. I want to be able to access a virtual server conected to the trunk ports from the switch ports. Ports Fa0/1 to 8 are in a vlan port fa0/9 to 16 another vlan etc. Ports Fa0/47 and 48 are the trunk ports. This is a lab environment so the the switch is the only device being used.

I am trying to implement in the lab. I have 2 switches 3550 and 3750. my questions are:
1. why i can't see vlans in the running config on switch 3750 even after i created 3 vlans?
2. the 3750 is power over ethernet switch and i am trying to connect 3550 and 3750 thru cross over cable trunk link and the ports doesn't show up no light nothing. is it the right way of cabling.
The situation include 2 cisco routers an 2 switch 3550

View 7 Replies View RelatedThey have a locked Cisco Router which is from the ISP and its confed on a fa 0/0 interface to share Internet access on the network. The ip on that interface is 195.198.11.217 255.255.255.252 and i tried it with a PC (set my personal ip to .218 and entered their dns info (195.67.199.27) and it is working. The question is now. My friend found a 3550 laying around and since the ISP wont let them conf their router he wants to use the 3550 to create 2 vlans with internet access and without access to eachother. Vlan 10 for the desktops and Vlan 20 for the wireless (Moving on to some netgear wireless switches) How would you configure the 3550 for this to work?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a small cisco switch cluster (seven different 2924, 3524cisco switches) with 3550 as a cluster control which does all the inter vlan routing that works fine.
This cluster is in semi production PBX interop testing lab. This is a closed network without internet access and not connected to our corporate network.However now I have to add this capability so some equipment in the lab can get Microsoft updates over the internet.
I've created a port on a 3550 (fa0/19) and connected it to another network that has internet access. It picked an ip address and when I'm logged in to the 3550 I can ping hosts on the outside network. However I can't ping any hosts on that network from any hosts that are connected to my vlans.I've tried a few different things, but still can't make it to work.

I am testing on lab equipment (2 Catalyst 3550 and 1 Catalyst 3560) HSRP version 1 and 2.I successfully created a load balancing between the two Catalyst 3550 on a couple of vlans (11 and 12) on ver 1
now, just adding the command "standby xx version 2" my hosts on the 2 vlans are completely unable to ping the virtual IP def. gw on debugging i checked that msgs are exchangedthe two cat 3550 are seeing each other on HSRP (active / standby roles)the real ip addresses are pingable rebooted the swiches (just as a last resort try)deleted arp chache on hostsremoved the auth on hsrp all of this no effect.
i also tried to modify the priority on the cat 3560 (before he was on both vlans in standby) to make it the active one and with the same config it worked flawlessly.
My only idea is that there is a bug on CATs 3550 (IOS: c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE4.bin) [code]

Where should i define the vlans (in the switch or in th ASA?) and what ports to put in trunk mode? (the ones on the switch or the one between the switch and the ASA?)

Up until now we have only used it on edge ports with default values and without error-disable.I am proposing that we also add storm control to trunk ports at a lower level and that we error-disable only the redundant links that make up our loops.
-storm-control broadcast level 25.00 20.00
-storm-control multicast level 2.00 1.00
-storm-control action shutdown [only on redundant links]
In a storm all links will restrict broadcast which should work accessing remote switches, but the redundant links should errdisable and block the redundant path. It is important that the action line is not applied to links that are not redundant as we could isolate parts of the network. Any reason not to use storm control on trunks?
I have been experiencing discards and no buffers errors on my 2950 switches. These switches are connected to two core switches 4948 and 3560G. I have noticed previous posts regrading these problems but have been unable to find any cases that were resolved. We are using 12.1(22)EA11 software on our 2950 switches.

Is there a way to configure a switch (3550, 3560,3750) to disable a switch port if it has not been used for a specified time period such as weeks or months. Say you want the switch to disable switch ports that have been "abandoned".
View 8 Replies View Relateddue to upcoming changes to our network I'd like to be able to pass vlans across the FE ports of a Cisco 1841 router.1 port would go to a managed switch and then to local devices on different VLANs.the 2nd port would go upstream to a Cisco 3825 at a different location which would then connect to the internet.due to monitoring behind the Cisco3825 we would like all NAT to occur on the 3825.
what I would like to happen is this example device connected to port 7 on managed switch gets an IP (10.0.7.10) from the Cisco 1841 in VLAN 7 (10.0.7.0/24).traffic from that device goes to the switch, then in f0/1 on the 1841 and out f0/0 still with the same IP info, no NAT occuring.traffic is received on the 3825 port 0/1 and then NAT occurs and out port 0/0 to the internet.
we recently aquired a managed services job and have to do a overhaul of the vlan configs and have a whole dozen WC2948G's trunk between a set of ports as well as trunk out a LAG channel setup to non cisco equipment. the deal is the lacp-channel works properly on both ends but no routing of vlans between ports and between the lag trunk are working.
theres alot of settings in the config and im planning on clearing it and starting from scratch but before i do i want to know where my problem lies.

Security policies state that we have to filter unnecessary vlans going through the trunk between N5K and N7K. So we use the 'switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20,30' command. My question is: Do I have to include the native vlan id on this command?

The phone on switch 1 have no audio issues, but the phones on switch 2 (the last in the series) have intermittent voice quality issues when dialing across a WAN circuit to another office. The phone on switch 1 do not have that issue though they traverse the same circuit. They are all using the same VLAN 100.

I setup a new vlan 3 and the dhcp pool.. The client gets a 192.168.3.2 address but am not able to ping the router and other clients and get out to the internet.
Here is the config that I have. I deleted the other ports because I am not using them. The vlan 3 client is on port fast Ethernet 0/17 and the router is connected to the fastethernet 0/1.

I have a collapsed core design with routed ports between all components. Access layer switches, data center switches, core/aggregation. All routed (no spanning-tree at all).Now...I have to add an IBM BladeCenter with a BNT layer 3 switch to my topology. However, those nasties don't seem to support routed ports.How can I have a routed port on my cisco switch and a standard access port on the BNT and still establish an adjacency with an SVI? I am running OSPF, but I am labbing this in my home lab with 2 x 3550s and EIGRP.

If no - I assume that one would enable L3 routing with that config command.In general terms are there any IOS devices where ip routing is enabled and one would not see the "ip routing" command in config. I.E. if that command is not visible in the config could you assume there is no L3 capablity in that device?

Now I'm trying to configure routing between 2800 and 3550, I tried connecting both Straight Throught and Crossover cables to the 2800 Fa0/0 and Fa0/1 ports as well as the switchports on 3550
No switchport commands are configured however, the lights do not go on for both straight through or crossover cables. I tried connecting 1750 routers but same result. My goal is to have all the VLANS routed to the internet with configuring NAT translation the router.

I'm having some problems setting up vlans to talk to each other on a 3550-12T switch. Its quite a simple setup I have, but I need to split my network up.
Currently I have a network of 192.168.25.0 255.255.255.0 I want to create a new vlan network of 192.168.30.0 255.255.255.0 So I have configured my vlan1 (default vlan) to have an ip of 192.168.25.250 for getting to the management page
I have created a vlan2 of 192.168.30.1 255.255.255.0 ?I have a port 10 linked to one of my 3560G's?In port 9 which is on vlan2 I have my pc plugged in with a static ip of 192.168.30.50 from the router I can ping any device on 192.168.25.x.
I can not ping 192.168.30.1 (which is my vlan2) nor can i ping the PC.
I have enabled ip routing But I dont have a default route, this is becase we don't have a router on the network.
I've been working with these two Cisco devices in my home off and on for several months now but I just can't take it anymore, I'm about to throw them away and go back to Linksys router.
I have a Cisco 2600 Router with only one Ethernet card in it so I have to trunk from my 3550 Switch to that device. I'd like to have my ISP and all users plug into switch and all trunk back to the router's sub interfaces. Port F0/24 is in VLAN 1, as are all ports but Port F0/1 which is my desktop PC. I mocked it up in Packet Tracer and it works just fine. This is just a simple setup and I'm making sure I can ping between switch and router before I move to each next step.

We currently have a CISCO 4507R (Core Switch) and a CISCO 3560 (Distribution Switch) for the campus wide network. Our network is developed with various VLANS to support Internet and Intranet facilities. The new lab need to be incorporated in to the Campus wide network with a new VLAN ID. But problem is while trunking the CISCO 3560 (Distribution switch) to the CISCO SF300-48P (Access Switch) communication does not happen. While, surfing the internet and various doc's say that SF300 uses GVRP instead of dot1q trunking.

Currently we have a mixture of Cisco 3750 and Cisco 3550 switches which don't support power over ethernet. Its been suggested we could continue using the current switches and power the new phones using power adapters.
Int terms of implementing qos (we don't have any at the moment) for the voice will a Cisco 3550 be OK and will having a mixture of different models using 3550 and 3750 pose any challenges with the qos policy for the voice. I believe there are differences in that the Cisco 3550 doesn't support srr-queues but having little experience with qos I'm not sure what impact this will have if any?
I am having issues working on my QOS between 4510 and 3550 switch connecting on layer 3 through a service provider. I have class maps and policy map setup on both sides and then policy map attached to interfaces however i dont see any traffic matching in policy map on 3550 switch, i do see some traffic matching on 4510 but the speed with which its increasing has my doubts about it. When i make voip calls ( VOIP switches are sitting behind 3550 and are mainly 3550 pwr 24 port switches with phone ports configured for auto qos voip cisco-phone and trusting cos) i rarely see the RTP matching in class under policy map.
