An Error Occurred While Reconnecting
May 19, 2011
I am getting "an error occurred while reconnecting...etc" when a previously successful drive mapping suddenly does not work. The short answer is to disconnect, then re-map the drives, but that is a real pain when you are accessing the same shares all day, and it seems to drop out whenever it feels like it.

I'm trying to open certain websites but the browser gives me this message: "Network Error (tcp_error) A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out" The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

I'm working on a Dell Vostro 220s running Windows XP with an integrated NIC. It had a few hundred viruses on it and after removing them, I can't get an internet connection. The icon says connected with 0 packets sent and 0 packets received. DHCP is enabled and other computers on the network can connect to the internet. The drivers are installed and detected as working properly. I have rebooted also, with no luck. Ipconfig fails with the error "An Internal error occurred: The request is not supported."

I am running a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit as my office computer. About 3 PCs in the office are connected to the office server through wireless connection (including mine), and another 3 are connected through a wired connection. My connection to the server doesn't work at times. I get an error message that "An error occurred while connecting to . The network path was not found." The other PCs using the network have no problem connecting to the server. Also, the internet connection is shared from the server and I have no trouble with it. The problem is only with accessing the shared folder on the server.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium?Trying unsuccessfully so far to reconnect a client machine to a wireless network that it has been on for a year or so.ISP was down for about 2 hours the other day and when it came back up, the client machine started getting the IP address conflict. Went in to release and renew and got the following error messages:
on release: An error occurred while releasing interface Wireless Network Connection: An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint.
on renew: The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address.
The next thing I tried was to go in an give a manual IP address to the Wireless Adapter. But the TCP/IP properties are greyed out and I receive the following error message:Some of the controls on this property sheet are already open. To use these controls, close all these property sheets and then reopen this one.

These are only occuring for clients that are disconnecting....
They can reconnect after a WLC reboot....
We have swapped APs.....
I have seen this error in other forums but it says not to worry about it. There has to be a connection between this and clients getting disconnected. We have anywhere between 10-50 clients on the system at any one time.Is this a client issue (nic firmware, version) or is this an error in the controller??

we recently upgraded to a dual-band belkin router using comcast's cable service.
I have successfully configured 4 laptops, iTouch, and a desktop (wired) to have great internet connections. However when trying to configure for another laptop, I am able to connect to the wireless network but everytime I open a webpage or connect to a website in a browser, the connection disconnects then connects once more failing to open the website. The laptop in question is XP SP3 which 2 other laptops have the same OS as well.
When checking ipconfig, an error message pops up saying: "An internal error occured: a device attached to the system is not functioning. Please contact Microsoft ... Additional information: Unknown media status code."

But my computer keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting to internet for some reason. It just started a couple days ago. Sometimes it goes a couple minutes before disconnecting and sometimes it disconnects after a couple hours but it keeps doing it and is really annoying.

Right now on my internet, we have U-Verse, so one router is the AT&T U-Verse one which is downstairs and I also have another router upstairs which is a Netgear oneThe problem is, the U-Verse always stays up, but on the Netgear router, it will sometimes randomly drop signal and the signal is no where to be found on devices with WiFi. I'd have to disconnect and reconnect the router for it to be seen again. They are both on the same internet network U-verse, I just have 2 routers because the devices I keep upstairs I connect to the upstairs router.

I am having problems with my internet connection dropping every day, usually around 2-3 times per day. Internet goes off for a second or two and it comes back. Usually this wouldn't be a problem for me but I am a professional poker player and every time internet goes off, I loose all my active tables in poker lobbys (due to reconnect) which is unacceptable and a serious problem for me.

I am having problems with my wifi connection, it has been going on for a while now, i got it fixed by a computer guy but then i had to reset my entire computer and now my internet will stay on for about a minute or two and then disconnect again and so on but after a certain period of time (2-3 hrs usually) it will stay connected until my computer gets shut down.. I am on an Acer Aspire 5315-2822 i have disconnected the "acer empowering technology" and i know that has nothing to do with the problem because it was always disconnected when my internet ran steady. There are 4 other networks in my area, if that means anything? Not to mention im using windows vista.

I have been trying to connect to my 2Wire Uverse wireless router and it not going well. I had it connected and for other reasons I went into the router setup and disabled wireless, did nothing else. When I enabled wireless again (and did nothing else) I could not connect my Win 7 computer. Everything else connects just fine so I know it's not the router but this Win 7 computer. When I click on the connections icon it shows me all the available wireless networks and the Uverse show but has a red X on it and the popup says something to the effect it's trying to connect but the connections are not the same as are in the profile or the info.

I am finally switching over my work computer from Windows XP to Windows 7. I have multiple network connections I connect to when I boot up. I've set myself as a new user on the servers I have to connect to, Windows 7 asked me to put in my username and password for each share, all connects fine but when I shutdown and restart, I see all my Shares as red x'ed "disconnected" and as I click on each one, I have to put in my username and password again. Windows XP always remembered my connections and logged me onto each share at boot up. I've checked "remember my credentials" but it's not doing it, Am I missing something? on any restart or shutdown, I have to click on each share and put in my login credentials.

I use a wireless network in Singapore through a router. For the past year or so, my wireless network keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. However, most often the wireless icon in the tray often makes no mention that the wireless has not disconnected. This same problem happens on my whole family's laptops no matter whether they use windows xp, vista, or windows 7. Occasionally my whole network disappears and i actually do disconnect and i can't find the network till i switch on and off my router.

The router is connected to the desk top that my husband uses,, his is not wireless but my laptop is. the laptop wireless connection keep disconnecting and then reconnecting on it's own. This just started a couple of months ago. At first I thought it was the router but my daughter came over with her laptop and as mine was connecting and disconnecting hers was just fine so that has led me to believe it is my computer... but what could it be? I have a wireless mouse and USB speakers plugged into my computer but nothing else and we do not have a cordless phone that could be interfering. could it be my cell phone? why would it have not been doing it all along if there were the case?

btw- I don't know all the correct technical terms, so I will try to describe them as best as I can.
My internet at home keeps disconnecting. It disconnects when I go upstairs (we have a small house), it disconnects when I'm more than 5 meters away. Sometimes when I'm right next to the modem it disconnects. But not only does it disconnect, it also ask me once again for my internet password (as it is protected with one).
Things I've noticed:
-This has been going on for some while (about a year ... I'm a really patient person). It does it with my and my brother's macbook Pro (Mac Os X 10.5.8) but it doesn't with my father's Toshiba
-We switched to bell's fibre optic, so the modem should be working fine
-my internet works beautifully when I'm at my grandmothers house (who also has the new Fibre optic) and works well at my school's university
-Once a few months ago I decided to do some searching and found out that my computer kept changing some kind of IP name or whatever (not sure exactly what) but it kept saying: "BELL_account_name_0 has disconnected so it reconnected to BELL_account_name_1", and then _2, _3 once I found it was up to _150 !!
I am pretty handy with computers but I'm not used to Mac's settings. Everytime I try to do the Network Diagnostics sometimes it works first shot, sometimes I have to re run the same Diagnostics and it will work 20 tries later (like I said I am patient). But I know that Network Diagnostics is NOT THE ANSWER. It's just a temporary patch, I want to solve this problem completely so I won't have to deal with it in the future.

We recently moved in with some family, and we brought with us a Belkin N wireless Router. I set it up to their existing internet modem (I'm not sure what type it is or anything, I just know that the ISP is Optus) about halfway through January.
It's been working fine until Friday. Since setting it up, both my brother and I have (at different times) been playing Star Wars Battlefront II online. On Thursday night I was playing online fine, with no lag or anything (with a ping of about 138), however, ever since Friday it has been lagging non-stop. I have the same ping so I thought it must have been because we've gone over the limit for the month and the internet slows down.
However, every few mintutes (1 or 2 normally) the connection between my laptop and the network drops, and then within another few minutes connects again. I am running Windows Vista Business. My brothers laptop has the same problem, and he has Vista Home installed.
At first I thought it was a problem with the router, so I updated the firmware and restored the factory defaults, but the problem remains. When I get onto a website (if I'm lucky enough for the connection to stay) it normally loads pretty fast, so I dunno if we've gone over the limit or not (and I don't know the password to check).

Ok so my internet connection has recently started disconnecting and reconnecting every 5 mins or so. It has never done this before and has started doing it out of the blue. It doesn't even appear to have cut out by the icon at the bottom but it does stuff like stop youtube videos from loading or when I am playing online poker or online gaming it will cut out for about 30 seconds before reconnecting again.

A couple of months ago my internet (Insight Broadband) began to randomly disconnect and reconnect, and recently it has become more frequent (every 5-10 minutes). I connect to my internet wirelessly through a linksys router. It's not my laptop because our desktop and xbox experience the same frequent disconnects and reconnects. I've tried the dns flush with no success. Ive also changed the wireless channel to 1 to prevent any interference. Also, our linksys router is about 4 years old, which could be the cause, but I'd like to eliminate all other possibilities first. And finally, every time i click diagnose connection I receive the error " Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.
And just recently our internet has become very slow (youtube videos taking longer to buffer with many pauses). I eliminated the possibility of my router itself being at fault as when I plugged my xbox or laptop or desktop directly into the modem the same frequent disconnects and reconnects occurred. Here's a copy of my ipconfig /all: [code] Also, sometimes when I diagnose the connection I don't get this error but the random disconnects and reconnects still occur.for the past couple of days or so I'm no longer getting the first error message about a DNS server, however the disconnects are still occurring as often.

I got a new laptop (Toshiba Z830) last month and for the last few days my wireless internet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting after about a minute. It'll disconnect and say there's no internet (there's a yellow exclamation mark on the icon on the taskbar) and after about a minute it'll reconnect. I don't know if there's a pattern but I've noticed it keeps happening when I try to watch a video on youtube and sometimes at other times. No other device of mine is having any problems (desktop, phone, netbook), just my laptop.

I am using AnyConnect VPN 2.5.3054 on two different computers (Windows 7 and XP SP3) with Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. Upon successful connection, the client disconnects and goes into a continous loop of reconnection to no avail, a message at the bottom appears: "A VPN reconnect resulted in different configuration setting. The VPN network setting is being re-initialized. Applications utilizing the private network may need to be restarted."At times I also see after this loop of attempts to reconnect: "The VPN client agent SSL engine encountered an error. Please retry, or restart AnyConnect."Note: I added the VPN applications to the trusted zone of KIS 2012, unchecked the SSL and HTTPS 433 ports and added exceptions for the applications, again without use. I tried uninstalling and installing after disabling KIS but the problem persists.

In common with some other reports, I've been having a problem with a keep-alive tunnel between a RV016 and a RV042 not reconnecting if the tunnel is interrupted (by the WAN connection going down). In this event the only remedies are to manually connect the tunnel or to power cycle the routers. The firmware is v4.2.1.02 on both routers.I solved the problem by enabling keep-alive on the RV016 and disabling keep-alive on the RV042. If I set it the other eay around (RV042 keep-alive and RV016 not) then it will not reconnect automatically.

I've been having a problem the past several days with my wired connection where every 2-3 seconds it will disconnect, then reconnect, then disconnect, and so on without stopping. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and it's not the internet connection but rather the physical connection that seems to be lost (the network will do the entire identifying...unidentified network > identified network thing).
Naturally, I've already tried upgrading my network card drivers + uninstalling/reinstalling when it didn't work. I've powercycled the router/modem and rebooted the comp, but I can't find any way to fix the issue. It's not a problem with the router, since this only happens on my computer, and the other computers connected to the router have no problems at all. Even if I disconnect the router and connect my computer directly to the modem, it still has the issue.
Normally I'd assume it was something wrong with my network adapter, but my computer has no problems connecting to a new router/network it's never been on before. This only happens with networks that my computer has connected to in the past.
Recently I've just been using the wireless connection since it was only the wired connection having issues, but a few days ago my wireless connection started doing the exact same thing. It'll disconnect/reconnect ad infinitum without stopping every few seconds, so it's impossible to get on the internet.
Here are the results of my ipconfig:
