I was battling why one machine was connecting to mapped drives correctly on reboot and someone else was not.Turns out if you use control userpasswords2 to turn on auto-login, then the network drives appear as disconnected on reboot.Turned off auto-login and it worked fine. Now this is an automated system that has to auto-login in case of a power outage.

Our company has a SBS 2003 server, Netgear UTM10 router, 16 pcs. They all have static IPs assigned, and mapped drives to the server for different applications and files. Recently one machine (which I suspect has been using means to avert the UTM rules) lost connectivity to the server.I was able to get it restored.Upon getting it back on the server the user could access email and internet, but nothing else.All drives showed disconnected. The only way I could get them to connect again, was to remove the static ip address and dns information and let the pc choose.If I rebooted and put it back in, it lost the drives again.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have set up a Home Server only running Windows 7 32Bit and all it does is store files and stream them to the devices around my LAN which is no problem because all I have to do is map the Network drive onto all the computers and when I want to manage and download files I just RDC to my lil server machine. Though what I'd really like is for my girlfriend to be able to stream media from it aswell though she lives 7 miles away so it would have to be done over the internet though I don't knowhow I could map the drives to her computer over the internet. I don't want to allow her to remote on and access the computer that way I just want her to have a selection of networked mapped drives to it in windows explorer is there ayway of doing this for free?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a network with a Western Digital NAS. Several computers are on the network, some connected via ethernet cable and some via wireless. The NAS has several shares that are password protected so that only certain users can map to them - each PC has its own private share used for backup.
The problem device is a Fujitsu Seimens Amilo laptop with Vista as the OS. When trying to display a map of the full network it is unable to display one - I have tried all of the solutions described by the Vista help but none of them work.When using Map Network Drive and trying to browse for the NAS, nothing is seen - the only computer showing on the network is the Vista laptop. If I type in the share name using \nas_nameshare_name it won't connect but if I use the IP address, such as \192.168.0.101share_name, then it does connect. I enter the password, select Reconnect at logon and the drive is mapped.
If I put the laptop to sleep the drive is still mapped when it wakes. The drive remains mapped for as long as the laptop is on but if I reboot it then the drive is lost. In fact, there are two mapped drives, one with a password and one without. After a reboot the drive with the password is still showing, but as a disconnected drive (double clicking brings up the password entry screen, and then the drive will be mapped). The drive without the password just isn't there at all.
I have a windows 2008 foundation server at a clients property and they wish to have users access shares on a data drive that is seperate on the server.I have the server setup with active Directory Users and logon scripts to their local shares on the data drive but need to setup VPN so they can use their mapped drives at home.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue).When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections.It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.
We are having some issues between our (2) Windows 2003 Storage servers and Windows 7 client machines. The issue that is occuring is that the users indicate they temporarily loose network connection to their mapped drives on these servers. This may happen several times a day. The regional manager wants to say it's a network issue but I believe it's something b/t the server and workstation.I like to know if there are some additional parameters, debugging or configuration that might be recommended to perform on our (4) Cisco 3750G-48port POE switches (stacked) that would determine that it's not a network issue. I do not see any errors or collisions on the ports that the servers are connected nor am I seeing much of anything wrong with the user ports. There are only 3 vlans at this office, vlan 30=users, vlan 20=servers, vlan 40=mgmt.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a file server running windows 2003 and five computers (1 windows 7, 4 windows xp-sp3).There are two shares on the server.When the router is setup with wpa2, three of the windows xp machines will have problems with mapped drives. Directly after the drives are mapped, everything works, but 10 or so hours later, users can no longer access these mapped drives and there is no way to reconnect them it seems.The other two machines (windows 7 and one windows xp machine) have no problems whatsoever.
The only thing that the three computers have in common is that they are also sharing a printer (an hp j4680) attached to one windows xp machine (not the server).If I set everything to wpa, everything works fine, but of course my wireless network speeds drop to 56mbps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you look at my attachment it shows a thousand words; but basically I have a 4 port Thompson ADSL modem/router which handles the DHCP, and plugged into this are my main PC which I use to serve video files and music to my PS3 - which is connected to the same router but via a switch.The WIFI on the Thompson modem is switched off.In this scenario alone (NO Belkin wireless access point) my media plays beautifully via PS3 Media Server.However the moment I connect the Belkin into the switch as well, it plays havoc with the wired connection speed between the PC and PS3, dropping it to near unplayable speeds. Massive video stutters, music stops etc. I measured it using a PC on the end of the cable instead of the PS3 and it came out at about 1.4Mbps using 'LAN Speed Test'[CODE]

Title basically sums it up. Whenever my laptop connects to the wireless network in my house, it becomes unusable since nothing can no longer load. I have done a full virus scan and all, found no viruses, adware, spamware, etc. I also downloaded a program to check what programs are using bandwidth but nothing seemed out of the ordinary or enough to completely stop the Internet

Currently my home network is on WEP security. Really crappy security and limits all speeds to 54mbps. So I changed security to WPA2-PK and afterwards the internet is DEADLY slow. speedtest.net shows me at about 1mbps compared to 13-20 with WEP encryption. Something is obviously wrong here, and I can't figure out what. [code] I'm really puzzled as to why WPA2-PK is so awful. After changing it I can't log back into 192.168.1.1 unless I power cycle the router and connect via wired connection.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new computer with an Intel DP55WB motherboard which contains the 8257DC Gigabit controller. I am running Windows 7 64-bit with the latest Intel drivers. I have noticed that when the new computer is on the network, the wireless recycles and then completely fails. I thought the DIR-655 had died, but when I rebooted the router with the computer turned off, the wireless came back up. I checked the router logs, and multiple wireless restarts are clearly indicated. After about a dozen wireless restarts, the wireless turns off. I am running firmware 1.20 (I haven't seen any reason to upgrade until now).

When I watch HULU through the player it kills the entire internet connection for all PCs. I have to unplug the router in order to restart it. Everything will also work just fine until the next crash.Here's the thing, I'll watch a bit of the show and see the commercials and the router will only crash when it comes back to the show. If I watched 100 commercials they would not crash, but as soon as it returns to the show CRASH. Restart and we watch again.

I created the website with Dreamweaver software and uploaded it to fatcow via port 21.My internet connection was via xplornet and I had no access problems. I upgraded to xplornet's new g4 system and now I can no longer access my account online or upload to my website.We have two computers. The first is a desktop system that has the dreamweaver software. The second is a laptop which connects wirelessly. We share the signal through a dlink router. The modem is a viasat Surfbeam 2 residential satellite modem.1. When I attempt to login to the fatcow control panel, the tab shows successfully authenticated and then re-directs me back to the login page. This happens on both the laptop and the desktop.
I have tried bypassing the router and the problem still exists.I took the laptop to the computer center and I can login to the account no problem.I used a free proxy server page on the internet and can login from my home system on my desktop no problem.I have completely turned off virus scan and firewalls. It doesn't work. I have tried IE7, Chrome, Firefox and they all have the same problem. The laptop runs IE8 and has the same problem.I can ping the page successfully. I can traceroute the page successfully. I can't nslooup any site at all. I get the domain not existant message.My ip and dns settings are the automatically find option.I have renewed ips and dumped the dns cache.Using alternate dns addresses doesn't rectify the problem. When I attempt to upload via dreamweaver, I connect but within seconds I get a Dreamweaver message that says "Connection to remote host has been lost. Click refresh to continue" and the log reads "FTP Error. Dreamweaver could not connect to server." I haven't taken my desktop anywhere to try to see if it works on a different network. I'm in a remote location (hence the satellite internet)and it is an hours drive to the nearest private internet connection and a 2 hour drive to the nearest public connection.

There are 4 network drives mapped to a win 2k3 server, when the user logs in everything is fine, after a while the network drives become unreachable and gives the following error - An error accrued while reconnecting (drive letter) to \servershare Microsoft windows network: The local device is already in use The connection has not been restarted” This happens from any user on only 3 boxes. The rest of the network is fine. These 3 are networked via a switch, I swapped that out for another hoping that might fix it, but nothing.
The other odd thing is the same time that the network drives error out it seems that DNS stops resolving anything outside my network. I can still ping the router and other pcs on the LAN but DNS fails to resolve any names for IE, and nothing outside the LAN can be pinged, no Google, no 8.8.8.8. How ever restarting fixes the issue for a short while. There have been no network changes and all systems are fully up to date as far as patches go. I was thinking it's got to be a ether a DNS issue (the file server is also the Active Directory Domain controller) or something in to do with the router/fire wall we use (it's a Cisco ASA 5005).
I have an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop running Windows 7 (64bit) SP1. Recently, my computer was attacked by some really nasty malicious software. Nasty enough that it not only got past my security software, it permanently disabled it.I was still unable to repair/replace my security software. Finally, the support tech just gave up on me, and I ended up utilizing the restore feature provided by HP to restore my laptop, supposedly to factory condition. After the restore, everything works great except for my mapped drive.

I tried to enable the access to the shared folder over the internet while the laptop away from home, by implementing a VPN. I have successfully managed to configure a VPN IPSec between home router DrayTek 2820Vn that acting as VPN server, and the laptop that has TheGreenBow VPN client.
Through VPN tunnel laptop can ping the ip address for the router and the ip address for home printer and the ip address for home desktop , all of those are located at the other end of the VPN tunnel.
And I can access the web interface for the router as well by typing its private ip address. On the laptop and through the VPN tunnel I tried to map the shard folder on the desktop (\desktopipaddressSharedFolderName) , but it didn't work!!!.
when I existed Kaspersky on the desktop , I was able ping the desktop and to map the shared folder which is hosted on the desktop
How can I configure Kaspersky to let the the shared folder to be mapped via VPN ?
I have a desktop and a laptop. I'm trying to share my external HD from my desktop, to my laptop.What I did was gave the local administrators group full share permissions to the drive, and of course the local administrators group also has full NTFS permission.That being said, I went to my laptop and did a Code:net use X: \mydesktopexternal /user:mydesktopuser PasswordExternal is the share name for the external HD on my desktop. The command worked successfully, however, I am still getting Access Denied when trying to get inside of this mapped drive.How and why does the command map the drive properly, using those credentials, but there's no access when trying to navigate to it? It works if I give Everyone full share permission, but I don't want anyone to just connect to it. Use password protection file sharing is enabled, but of course with "Everyone" given permission, that won't apply (at least to my knowledge).
