Cisco :: 1242AG / Configure Wireless Not To Be Shown For Users But Used By Them?
May 19, 2011
How can I configure the wireless not to be shown for users, but used by them? On a Cisco 1242AG I mean when someone do a wireless discovery not see my wireless name, but typing the name be able to connect it.
I have a Linksys E3000 Duel Band router running on 12mbps of cable internet service. I just did an inventory of my household. I was in SHOCK!!! 20 frigging items that are setup to connect to the router.Items are: Wireless Printer, 3 Phones, 5 Laptops, 3 Ipod Touches, 2 Ipads, Nook, Kindle, Roku video streamer, Wii, Xbox 360 and one LAN wired desktop.I keep having issues with these in no particular order getting network error message and not working. I am rebooting the cable modem twice a day at times. Is this normal? Is there anything out thereconfigure my router for optimal performance and security. I would like to have the roku and xbox360 (espn live video) to have the most bandwidth so there is limited to no buffering for watching the video streaming
I have ACS 4 integrated with RSA 6.1, where users of ACS can authenticate their passwords with the rsa server.I am migrating users to ACS 5, and I want to integrate with rsa.
I am configuring rsa as “rsa secureID token servers”.But how should I configure the users on acs to authenticate the password with rsa?
Previously on acs 4, on the user page, in password field, I select authenticate with external DB, Also, any guide for the config on rsa 6.1 side (with acs 5)
I'm trying to configure WLAN authentication on my WCS to prompt users about their credentials.I'm using a Windows 2008 NPS as Radius server but I can also use a Cisco ACS 3.3 if needed. With each setup I tried, the credentials are sent automatically to the Radius server using the Windows user session credentials. How can I force the WCS to ask for a username and password before sending them to the Radius Server ?
I have an auditor wanting a screenshot of all users that have acces to configure our firewall, I am unfamiliar with 5.1. Is there a way of running such a report on a paticular device?
How does one configure the router so that Internet users can access internal company websites? The only thing that appears is the Cisco router login. Also I need to configure Terminal Services and its not on the list under Service.
I have a recently-purchased Inspiron 6000 running Windows 7. I have set up a home wireless network on a wireless router (D-Link) but it does not show up under wireless network connections (others in the neighbourhood do). It does appear however under "Manage My Connections", where it is listed correctly to automatically connect. The SSID is not hidden. Network adapters in the Dell are all reported as working normally, and the drivers are also reportedly up to date. Wireless networking is switched on.
On our conference floor, AP 1242AG already exist but I am going to add AP 3602i to increase wireless coverage. . Any issue or concern with this type of setting?
is this possible, i need to convert a 1242AG Autonomous back and forth this weekend to use for a quick project for testing. i need to do: take the AP into LWAPP mode (i know how to do this with the aironet utility) take the ap from LWAPP back into a AP mode so i can use it as my access point again. [code]
I need to bridge from our office to our shop that is around 800 feet away. Here are the Details
I need the 2.4 ghz antenna for client access (Iphones are not compatiable with 802.11a) The locations are 800 feet away but are line of sight. I need to use the 5ghz antenna for the bridge i have 2 aironet 1242ag's I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT3213 antennas (planned for client access) I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT2506 (maybe useless for this)
My problem is that the range of all the listed 5 ghz antennas. None that i can find will bridge 54mb over the 5ghz radio for greater than 170ft
The closest that i can find is AIR-ANT5195. If i put these on both sides and it is outdoors line of sight, will the best i can hope for is functioning and 6mb
I am in the process of moving our office and part of the task involves relocating our existing wireless access points. They are all 1242AG's running the c1240-k9w7-mx.124-10b.JDA3 IOS. I would like to change the security on the access points to WPA 2 but that selection is not available. I think upgrading the IOS will solve this problem but I am not sure. So I guess I have two questions:
1) Does this Cisco model support WPA 2 ? 2) If so what IOS do I need to load to make WPA 2 available?
I need a temporary additional broadband connection at home and I was thinking about a bt openzone hotspot connection... I have a cisco 1242AG access point which can do bridge mode. The BT openzone thing requires a username and password. Is it possible to connect the 1242 in bridge mode to bt openzone?
What would be the ramnifactions of using AIR-1242AG-A-K9 (g radios only: no b clients) and AIR-LAP1231G-AK9 (g radios: only no b clients) with AIR- ANT1728 (non diversity antennas) on the WLAN. Some of the APs 1242/ 1231 will be with in line of site of each other.
My question is about the maximum possible transmitting power in a Cisco 1242AG-E-K9.I did an update of my AP on a new ios version and since then, the maximum power for me is limited to 17 dbm. I check this within the console and the "show controllers dot11radio0 | include Power:" command. I thought that I had 20dbm before the update, but unfortunately I can't proof this by myself because I have no AP left with the old firmware.
Is it possible that the upgrade did this? I read about the regulatory domains for the transmitting power. I live in Switzerland, so I thought I could use 100mW if I want to. I read it's not possible to use the 100mW at each speed but I think I should stull be able to select the 20dbm/100mW or am I missing something?
I have an issue with a loss of connectivity after 10-15 seconds. I have a Cisco WLC 2504 controlling a Cisco 1242AG AP. The following is the topology.
Wireless Client -> 1242AG (AP) -> Port 3 WLC 2504 -> Port 1 WLC 2504 goes to fa0/2 on 3560. Port fa0/1 goes to ASA5505 (Inside)
All devices are on VLAN 10 10.50.1.0/24. AP is getting DHCP just fine and is associating with the WLC just fine. I connect my laptop to it and it connects just fine.
I then ping the gateway (ASA) 10.50.1.1 or the layer 3 interface on the switch 10.50.1.7 and it is fine for about 10 seconds, then it just dies then comes back in a few minutes and then goes away again. I have looked for duplicate IP's and can find none in any arp table.
It I just ping the controller 10.50.1.20 it is completely stable. I have moved the WLC directly off the ASA5505, moved the switch port, changed cables and the problem follows. I have even moved the AP to be directly off the switch instead of the WLC and the problem still occurs.
I have an existing 1242AG AP in a remote location, I have full access to it. I have a new 1242AG that was ordered but the client forgot to order antennas for it. Is there a way I can find out the exact model of antennas that are connected to the in place AP at the remote location??
I have an AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9, serial number FTX1623B0RX. I just need to know how old this unit is. (I haven't attached it to our Cisco account, so I can't open a TAC for it.)
Boot Version 12.4.13.0 IOS Version 12.4(23c)JA5Mini IOS Version 3.0.51.0
I have 2 1242AG APs setup with one SSID and no vlans configured. The APs are connected to a switch along with my DHCP server. Clients are able to connect to the SSID but are unable to get an IP from the server. Clients can plug into the switch and get an IP. If I configure a static IP on the wireless card, the client works fine.
Is there something I'm missing on the AP to allow DHCP requests to pass through? IPhelper?
Here is the AP info: AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9 12.4(21a)JA1
I'm having a little issue with some Cisco Aironet1242ag WAP's. I receive a call at least twice a month stating that some of the WAP's are not giving out internet connection. What I always do is go to my patch panel and disconnect those WAP's not working and connect them back again so they can power cycle. These WAP's are connected to a Cisco3750g. Once the WAP's boot up, the users can connect to the WAP and connect to the internet.
I don't know if these WAP's are filling up with some information that causes the access points to not connect to the WAN.
i hav a dell inspiron 1564 laptop. wireless connections show only when the lap is very close to the router. will i hav to change my wireless card?? if i hav to which would be better; a internal wireless card or a wifi dongle?? i hav a 'dell wireless 1397 WLAN Mini card"
I'm using a wlan controller with 1242ag converted to lwapp, i'm trying to enable 5.8 but when i change the from local to bridge the lwapp disappear from controller. May be that the firmware does not support mesh !I'm following the 4402 wlan manual at page 641.
I have an existing setup of older 1242AG-E-K9 access points with Air-ANT-ANT5160 antennas connected to them. Goal is to replace old AP's with new AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9 model. Question is that can I use only one antenna per radio? Does it work? I know that N-standard requirement is 3 antennas per radio (3 x 2.4G and 3 x 5G) but we need only B/G to work. Plan is to re-use existing AIR-ANT-ANT5160's and order new AIR-ANT2506 antennas. Setup per AP would be 1 x 2.4G and 1 x 5G.
i noticed that the 1242AG does not bring up the Radios, when there is a Power Injector connected.I see in the Logs of the AP:
%CDP_PD-2-POWER_LOW: All radios disabled - NEGOTIATED WS-C6509 <Switchport MAC Add>
The Module in the 6500 is a WS-X6348-RJ-45 The Option "Power Injector installed" on the WLC is also enabled, with the MAC Address from the Switchport, but no change. When i disable CDP on the mentioned Switch Port and reload the AP, it comes up and runs fine.
According to the documentation, I'm supposed to be hitting the Esc key when I see the Loading "flash:/[imagename]" ####### ... line, but this doesn't seem to be working. I've tried hitting the Esc key a lot during those lines, holding it down, hitting it early, hitting it late, hitting it in the middle, and still no joy.
I'm trying to break into a handful of malfunctioning 1242AG APs to see if I can get them working, or if they're faulting hardware that's beyond repair. (So far they're all coming back with: no "IP_ADDR" variable set, so how to set that without breaking out of the boot cycle).
I 'm administration an Aironet 1242ag, and we are currently buying an AIR-ANT1728 as antenna. The standard cable for the antenna is 0.9m long, and It could be insufficient for my needs.
I have two buildings that I'm trying to configure a bridge in between them using 2 1242AG APs.
Building A PCOFFICE SSID on VLAN 200 Radio G ROOT_1 SSID on Native VLAN 1 Radio A Root Bridge
Building B FDAPC SSID on Native VLAN 1 Radio G ROOT_1 SSID on Native VLAN 1 Radio A
We are using directional antenna. I know they are lined up properly because I have them both down and in front of me. I'm getting an error on the Building B AP that says " No SSID with VLAN configured. Dot11Radio1 not started." and I'm unable to get this to work. The bridge was working before I added the VLAN and encryption/WPA information for the PCOFFICE and FDAPC SSIDs
I have 2 cisco 1242Ag APs in one building and 7 in other building installed in my infrastructure. All these 9 APs are connected to WLC and all of them are added to default ap group to broadcast all the ssid... But 7 in the second bulding are working properly, but the 2 in the other building are not broadcasting the ssids. I checked the configuration in both APs and WLC as well... All the 9 APs are having the same configuration.
we see a strange message in our WLC logs, which occurs quite often (>10 times a day):Decrypt errors occurred for client [MAC-Adress] using WPA key on 802.11b/g interface of AP [MAC-Adress]The MAC-Adresses of the affected clients are varying as well as the APs reporting the error. The clients are Notebooks, Cisco IP-Phones and Nokia-DualBand-Phones.
Even more frequently we see the following message in the log:
%ETHOIP-3-PING_TRANSMIT_FAILED: ethoip_ping.c:227 send_eoip_ping: Failed to tx Ethernet over IP ping rc=5.
We use TKIP as Encryption and EAP-Fast as well as LEAP as Authentication (Cisco ACS).The WLC is an 2106, the APs are 1242AG. We don't recognize any problems placing calls or talking over these phones. It's just these messages in the log that concern me.

I've recently bought the TP-LINK WDR3600 and am very happy with it. I'm using its media server feature so I can watch movies on my TV through DLNA, but have found a problem: the MP4 files are not shown. All the other files work perfectly (AVI, MKV), but the MP4 files are not shown in Windows Media Player or LG Smart TV. I assume the Media Server software simply does not include this kind of files when scanning. Is there any way of accessing the media server configuration file and "enable" MP4 files?
I have problem setting up wireless repeater using Cisco 1242AG access points. Here is the setup and problem - The location has 2 1242AG APs and a WLC (2206) which will be used by PDAs. One of the AP was converted to Lightweight AP and is wired. This AP is up and working and PDAs are able to connect to it. There is 1 WLAN and it uses Local EAP (LEAP) as authentication. Layer-2 security is configured as WPA/WPA-2 with 802.1X authentication. Under AAA servers Local-EAP is enabled and a profile (with LEAP enabled) is used. Local users are configured for login. As said PDAs are able to connect and it is working without any problem.
WLC (LEAP with local users) -----> LAP ----> Repeater AP
But the 2nd AP has to be configured as repeater was configured to repeater mode (refering to the document) and was placed. The WLC can see a client (with APs MAC address) but it is probing. The AP is still Automonous AP. Also username and password is configured for authentication. But still the radio on the AP is not up and it is in reset state.
