May 22, 2013I have an AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9, serial number FTX1623B0RX. I just need to know how old this unit is. (I haven't attached it to our Cisco account, so I can't open a TAC for it.)

Mar 17, 2013I have an existing setup of older 1242AG-E-K9 access points with Air-ANT-ANT5160 antennas connected to them. Goal is to replace old AP's with new AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9 model. Question is that can I use only one antenna per radio? Does it work? I know that N-standard requirement is 3 antennas per radio (3 x 2.4G and 3 x 5G) but we need only B/G to work. Plan is to re-use existing AIR-ANT-ANT5160's and order new AIR-ANT2506 antennas. Setup per AP would be 1 x 2.4G and 1 x 5G.

May 13, 2013I have 2 cisco 1242Ag APs in one building and 7 in other building installed in my infrastructure. All these 9 APs are connected to WLC and all of them are added to default ap group to broadcast all the ssid... But 7 in the second bulding are working properly, but the 2 in the other building are not broadcasting the ssids. I checked the configuration in both APs and WLC as well... All the 9 APs are having the same configuration.

1. What is the maximum number of simultaneous users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point, is it 255 or can be more ?
2. If I define multiple SSID’s, what if the total numbers of users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point
3. I there a simulator tool that can be used to simulate multiple wireless connections to an AP
4. Have anyone tested so many users connected to 1 Access point ?

Jul 4, 2011I have problem setting up wireless repeater using Cisco 1242AG access points. Here is the setup and problem - The location has 2 1242AG APs and a WLC (2206) which will be used by PDAs. One of the AP was converted to Lightweight AP and is wired. This AP is up and working and PDAs are able to connect to it. There is 1 WLAN and it uses Local EAP (LEAP) as authentication. Layer-2 security is configured as WPA/WPA-2 with 802.1X authentication. Under AAA servers Local-EAP is enabled and a profile (with LEAP enabled) is used. Local users are configured for login. As said PDAs are able to connect and it is working without any problem.
WLC (LEAP with local users) -----> LAP ----> Repeater AP
But the 2nd AP has to be configured as repeater was configured to repeater mode (refering to the document) and was placed. The WLC can see a client (with APs MAC address) but it is probing. The AP is still Automonous AP. Also username and password is configured for authentication. But still the radio on the AP is not up and it is in reset state.

Apr 28, 2013Before the latest update and with the latest update, after about one week, I cannot access the router wirelessly using 192.168.1.1. Using IE 10, Chrome, and FireFox all give me no response. I type in the address and the web page never changes. It keeps me at the home page of my browser. I do not get any errors or messages.
Also I tried to use the DHCP Reservation page, and the names of the devices will not allow spaces or any special characters. Sure would be nice to allow such.
I just noticed that my router reverted back to 1.1.28.146856. I have updated twice via the web browser to version 1.1.28.147876 and once via direct connection and the downloaded file, but the router keeps reverting back to the older firmware.

Dec 5, 2011I have the wireless guest access set up in my E4200 flash to the latest firmware. When I connect to the wireless guest network it comes up under the 192.168.33.xx IP address. I can connect fine but it never pops up the browser so that you can type in the guest password. I'm running Windows 7 but I've also noticed the exact same problem under XP.The only thing I can guess is the problem is that I have this acting like an access point and all DHCP requests go to my router. I've basically turned off DHCP on this and plugged the network connection into the switch on the back.

Jun 2, 2012I have 2 PC's on a LAN, both Windows 7 Ultimate. Both PC's is connected to the same router via ethernet.Now PC number two has internet access and works great, but PC number 1 also shows "Internet Access" in the system tray and also in the network map, it shows that it is connected to the internet. But when I open ANY browser(FF, IE, Chrome) it cannot connect to the internet. Skype also cannot connect. As I said, the other PC (PC2) can connect fine and has the exact same setup as PC1. However, on PC1, when I manually connect via a dial-up broadband connection using the SAME username and password to my ISP as I used in the router config, it connects. The problem is that it loses the connection every 2 minutes or so...(failed to connect...redialing...). What I can do on PC1 to make it connect to the internet via the router the same way the other PC does?
Also, the two PC connects fine over the LAN between each other, but as I said, PC 1 cannot connect to the WAN the same way PC2 does. Things I tried: I did a TCP/IP stack repair and rebooted. Nothing. I disconnected the 'working PC' from the LAN, nothing. I uninstalled the Antivirus and Firewall, nothing...

After the vendor configured the new ASA5520's, I was unable to access the ASDM. The configurations are a basically modified versions of the config on the PIX525. I did find that they did not set the ASDM image path. [code]

Jan 5, 2012I upgraded a Catalyst 2950 switch and there wasn't enough room so I deleted the flash. The upgraded went well using tftp. It booted up fine. The I0S version includes crypto. But, I can't access switch via web browser or CNA. Port scan shows port 80 0pen. What am I missing?

Jan 31, 2013I am experiencing problems trying to access my routers HTTP-type configuration. I have a Billion 400G router. The address to access the router was always http://10.0.0.2 and that has always worked. A dialog box would appear asking for a username and password. Now it doesn't even reach that screen. It says that the connection timed out. I've tried Firefox/Chrome/IE10. To no avail. My system: Windows 8 build 9500. Also something weird. When I type in this Microsoft thing comes up with IIS 8.

I need the 2.4 ghz antenna for client access (Iphones are not compatiable with 802.11a) The locations are 800 feet away but are line of sight. I need to use the 5ghz antenna for the bridge i have 2 aironet 1242ag's I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT3213 antennas (planned for client access) I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT2506 (maybe useless for this)
My problem is that the range of all the listed 5 ghz antennas. None that i can find will bridge 54mb over the 5ghz radio for greater than 170ft
The closest that i can find is AIR-ANT5195. If i put these on both sides and it is outdoors line of sight, will the best i can hope for is functioning and 6mb
Are there options on 5ghz that i am missing.

Mar 9, 2012I am in the process of moving our office and part of the task involves relocating our existing wireless access points. They are all 1242AG's running the c1240-k9w7-mx.124-10b.JDA3 IOS. I would like to change the security on the access points to WPA 2 but that selection is not available. I think upgrading the IOS will solve this problem but I am not sure. So I guess I have two questions:
1) Does this Cisco model support WPA 2 ?
2) If so what IOS do I need to load to make WPA 2 available?
