On our conference floor, AP 1242AG already exist but I am going to add AP 3602i to increase wireless coverage. . Any issue or concern with this type of setting?

Additionally, the antennae needs to be out of sight. I was considering placing an AP under the access flooring (and under the desk) with the antennae mounted above the floor directly above the AP. trying to place an atennae at floor level rather than ceiling height?

I went through the setup wizard and followed the instructions in Ch. 2 to the letter (or at least I think I did). I have DHCP options 43 and 60 configured per the 3600 series Getting Started Guide.I believe my AP discovery process is sound because I see activity when I power on the AP and perform debug capwap ap all from the WLC. I have highlighted lines that I think are relevant. I have attempted to find the answer on my own by searching the Internet for these phrases. [code]
I've been configuring hundreds of 3602i APs via Prime without incident, but I've encountered 2 APs that get to the ap: prompt and doesn't proceed further. If I type boot, then they'll complete the boot process.
How do I configure these 2 APs so they will automatically boot fully?

We are evaluating the 5508 WLC Series controller. When trying to associate the 3602i/e wireless access points we have no success. However the 1131 and 1242 legacy AP's will associate.....LWAP Vs CAWAP ?
We've reloaded the 7.2.130 code and it didn't work.
Wireless client connected to a 3602i AP running on 2500 series WLC with a latest 7.2 code. Client will now connect to AT&T vpn client - success.Client will connect to SAP application using netweaver gui - failed.With the same scenario, except for the access point being used, client will connect to SAP application using netweaver gui

Whats with the 3600 series APs that i cant pass traffic with the SAP application?
Troubleshooting done:
802.11n disabled - still failed
Clean Air disabled - still failed
MFP disabled - still failed
Access point gives all junk vlaues in console. I am getting all outputs while booting up and executing commands. But To say, it is as simple as printing with spelling mistakes
View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalled a new 5508 WLC last week, and finished bringing 68 new 3602i access points online in our College Dorms. We are seeing a lot of "Client De-authenticated" errors "Reason: Unspecified Reason: Code 1. Years ago I asked about error code 1. The reply from Cisco was: "The programers put the code in. It basically means we don't know what the problem is."Got a call from one of the dorms stating that students were getting knocked off the network while going to sites. If a student is wired, network is solid.Walked the dorm in question and was getting full bars of signals at all times, and was able to stream a movie from my Ultraviolet account without any break or slowdown as I moved from access point to access point. So.. my device, an iPad, was fully mobile and did not experience any disconnects.Did observe one student using a MacBook Pro. This student was constantly loosing connection to the access point. Checked the controller for the MAC of the student's computer. I did find deauthentication errors. BUT... this student's error was the computer was receiving an IP address from the DHCP that was already in use. At the computer the error message was a timeout issue.I am just learning the ropes on the 5508. Have used 3 4404s for the past six years.

I need to get the internet to run all the way up to the second floor because the wireless N network really only works well in the basement and main floor. Unfortunately our builder never wired us ethernet ports along with our phone jacks. What would be the best solution without running new wire? Is there a way to convert the phone jack wires to ethernet? Do one of those power line converters work well? I would really like to avoid having to drill for new wires.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless router on the ground floor of my home which is wired to my PC on the 3rd floor. The wifi signal is of poor quality on the 3rd floor. I cannot move the router to a different floor since all of my connections are wired through the home into my networking room (on the ground floor where my router is). I wish to add a media receiver to a different room on the 3rd floor that is not wired already for networking. Streaming video files wirelessly to the media receiver from my router will not work because as stated previously the signal quality is poor on the 3rd floor. My mobo on my computer has ASUS wifi GO. Can I enable the wifi go on the mobo of my PC (located on 3rd floor) to connect to the media receiver (also on the 3rd floor) for streaming? The media receiver will also have an internet browser so will I be able to connect to the internet as well if it is networked to my PC and my PC is connected to my router on the ground floor?
I basically want to keep my PC connected to my main router for high DL speeds and also have my PC networked wirelessly to my media receiver using the on board wifi go. If possible I'd also like to be able to access the internet on the media receiver via the PC.
How can i implement networking in my THREE floor office by using routers and switches?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have two laptops, a PS3, one desktop (technically two, but right now its not working, hoping to make it wired, but we will see), a smart phone and an Ipod touch. The first few are used the most though. I have the router currently downstairs in the kitchen in the corner (I know terrible place) unfortunately it was the only place beside the room upstairs, which tbh I don't know why we didn't do, which is still towards an end to the house. The middle most part of the house would be in between the kitchen and the dinning room on the first floor, although it doesn't have a great place for the coax jack to be installed. The other room would be mine upstairs. So the question is; is the router better off upstairs or down stairs. Also the router is a Linksys WRT54GS so its only G sadly. I'd like the best signal strength as possible spending the least amount of money as possible. Sadly I game (PS3,Laptop,Desktop) which also would make it awesome to have some of these wired, but theirs no great location to get the best of both worlds. If I had to choose it would be my desktop to be wired which is why my room for the router would be nice if its a good place for the signal.

My problem is the signal strength is a little weak on the main floor at the other end of the house. I would like to add a second access point to cover that end of the house. Do I need to get another DIR-825 and wire it to the original or is there another option? I obviously don't need all the features of the DIR-825 for the 2nd AP, but I cant find a less expensive option that will still allow me to use both bands.

I need the 2.4 ghz antenna for client access (Iphones are not compatiable with 802.11a) The locations are 800 feet away but are line of sight. I need to use the 5ghz antenna for the bridge i have 2 aironet 1242ag's I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT3213 antennas (planned for client access) I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT2506 (maybe useless for this)
My problem is that the range of all the listed 5 ghz antennas. None that i can find will bridge 54mb over the 5ghz radio for greater than 170ft
The closest that i can find is AIR-ANT5195. If i put these on both sides and it is outdoors line of sight, will the best i can hope for is functioning and 6mb
Are there options on 5ghz that i am missing.
I am in the process of moving our office and part of the task involves relocating our existing wireless access points. They are all 1242AG's running the c1240-k9w7-mx.124-10b.JDA3 IOS. I would like to change the security on the access points to WPA 2 but that selection is not available. I think upgrading the IOS will solve this problem but I am not sure. So I guess I have two questions:
1) Does this Cisco model support WPA 2 ?
2) If so what IOS do I need to load to make WPA 2 available?

I have a cisco 1242AG access point which can do bridge mode. The BT openzone thing requires a username and password. Is it possible to connect the 1242 in bridge mode to bt openzone?
What would be the ramnifactions of using AIR-1242AG-A-K9 (g radios only: no b clients) and AIR-LAP1231G-AK9 (g radios: only no b clients) with AIR- ANT1728 (non diversity antennas) on the WLAN. Some of the APs 1242/ 1231 will be with in line of site of each other.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy question is about the maximum possible transmitting power in a Cisco 1242AG-E-K9.I did an update of my AP on a new ios version and since then, the maximum power for me is limited to 17 dbm. I check this within the console and the "show controllers dot11radio0 | include Power:" command. I thought that I had 20dbm before the update, but unfortunately I can't proof this by myself because I have no AP left with the old firmware.
Is it possible that the upgrade did this? I read about the regulatory domains for the transmitting power. I live in Switzerland, so I thought I could use 100mW if I want to. I read it's not possible to use the 100mW at each speed but I think I should stull be able to select the 20dbm/100mW or am I missing something?
I have an issue with a loss of connectivity after 10-15 seconds. I have a Cisco WLC 2504 controlling a Cisco 1242AG AP. The following is the topology.
Wireless Client -> 1242AG (AP) -> Port 3 WLC 2504 -> Port 1 WLC 2504 goes to fa0/2 on 3560. Port fa0/1 goes to ASA5505 (Inside)
All devices are on VLAN 10 10.50.1.0/24. AP is getting DHCP just fine and is associating with the WLC just fine. I connect my laptop to it and it connects just fine.
I then ping the gateway (ASA) 10.50.1.1 or the layer 3 interface on the switch 10.50.1.7 and it is fine for about 10 seconds, then it just dies then comes back in a few minutes and then goes away again. I have looked for duplicate IP's and can find none in any arp table.
It I just ping the controller 10.50.1.20 it is completely stable. I have moved the WLC directly off the ASA5505, moved the switch port, changed cables and the problem follows. I have even moved the AP to be directly off the switch instead of the WLC and the problem still occurs.
I have an existing 1242AG AP in a remote location, I have full access to it. I have a new 1242AG that was ordered but the client forgot to order antennas for it. Is there a way I can find out the exact model of antennas that are connected to the in place AP at the remote location??
