Linksys E3000 How To Configure For 20 Users
Feb 26, 2012
I have a Linksys E3000 Duel Band router running on 12mbps of cable internet service. I just did an inventory of my household. I was in SHOCK!!! 20 frigging items that are setup to connect to the router.Items are: Wireless Printer, 3 Phones, 5 Laptops, 3 Ipod Touches, 2 Ipads, Nook, Kindle, Roku video streamer, Wii, Xbox 360 and one LAN wired desktop.I keep having issues with these in no particular order getting network error message and not working. I am rebooting the cable modem twice a day at times. Is this normal? Is there anything out thereconfigure my router for optimal performance and security. I would like to have the roku and xbox360 (espn live video) to have the most bandwidth so there is limited to no buffering for watching the video streaming

I'm active duty military, currently overseas.I have a wireless connection and recently purchased a Samsung HT-E5500 home theater system. I'd like to be able to stream Netflix but understand that I need a VPN with a US ip address to get it to work. Any VPN service I can use, and how to configure it with a Linksys E3000 router, so that I can use it with both my computer and when connected to the Samsung system?

I just picked up an e3000 last night. Set up was performed manually. Flashed to 1.0.04. No issues and I was up in under 10 min.Although I read the user guide, prior to purchase, I admit I did not expect that I would not be able to configure ALL of the router's features and functions from the web based configuration, without using the CISCO Connect CD.Parental Controls and GUEST Access cannot be configured unless you load the Cisco Connect software. While this is not a huge deal, this implementation is clumsy and cumbersome for advanced users. Honestly, I had no disire to install the Cisco Connect software. I was further disappointed to see that it stores the router's password.
My feeling here, let's not ruin a great thing. There are two types of users. One's who need a configuration wizard, and other's who don't. I guess some inroads are being made in the right direction as some GUEST access functions can be made in the web gui on the e4200. I hope this can be further expanded to all "e" series routers in the future. Overall, it works as advertised. Streaming 720p HD video over wireless 2.4Ghz band G only is flawless. This is no different than my wrt54g2, but I'm upgrading to a 1080p player and have read that N on the 5Ghz band is the way to go.

Just checked that my ISP provides me with two Static IP's, called them and they confirmed its running, however the modem that they gave me only has one ethernet port, to which my Linksys E3000 is connected. I am trying to set up this new IP and dedicate it to my new WHS 2011 machine, so I can remote manage it. It having a static IP of its own isn't much of a problem, but I would like to know how to do so.

I had a Linksys Wireless-G router for a long time and had very good luck with it. However, I ended up getting a couple of Wireless-N devices and wanted to get a different router. I bought the Linksys E3000. I got it home and set it up, and at first it worked. Then it would all of a sudden drop everything connected to it. I would restart the router, and in short order it would drop all connections again. This completely baffled me for awhile, until I actually touched the bottom of the router, and it was quite hot. I had it laying flat on a a table, so I could never understand why it was getting so hot. Anyway...I stood it up on it's side and it worked for awhile. Then it would randomly drop various things connected to it. The last straw was when I was listening to internet on the Apple TV, while viewing the internet on my PC and it started dropping the connection every five minutes. Anyway, I have now hooked my Wireless-G Linksys back up and it is working great.
is Wireless-N even needed? I live in a small place, so I don't need it to reach a long distance, and I don't transfer a tremendous amount of date wirelessly, so that doesn't really matter. Should I even try to fix this router? I looked on the Linksys page and I am running the newest firmware.

I bought a Linksys E3000 Router. I have hooked it up and connected my PS3, laptop, iPad, 2 guest laptops on occasion with no issues. However, my fiancee's laptop will not connect to the internet. It connects to the network fine, just not to the Internet. I keep getting the same error "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server". She is running Windows Vista SP 2. I tried all three of the solutions suggested by Vista, but they all failed. I also did a hard reset of the laptop, router, and modem. Waited a little while with everything unplugged. Still cannot connect to the interent and get the same error message.

I have an e3000 that cannot obtain an address from the ISP. I can get an address on the computer and an old router by directly connecting the cable to the computer or the router. I can also daisy-chain the e3000 to the old router, and I can get an address on the e3000 from the old router. I have hard reset the e3000, changed firmware from the Linksys to TomatoUSB and back to Linksys, and I still can't get it to work. It worked fine on Saturday until a bolt of lightning hit close to the house. Since then, I cannot get the e3000 to connect to the ISP.

It seems like after a certain amount of time, maybe a few days... my E3000 gets slowww.. I'm talking dog slow. And it's not just the internet, I have a media server connected to it, and usually when I put something on it, the transfer rate is about 3.5MB/s (not bits, bytes). But everything is slow, I top out at speed of maybe 1/6 normal on the internet as well.

We have a wireless internet service. Not satellite. We basically have an antenna on our house that picks up the signal from a tower a mile or two away. I used the e3000 router when we lived in town with broadband internet and it worked fine. I can't get it to keep a hold of a signal. I can connect to the router from the computers but the router drops the signal from the tower. I have an old router that the wireless company was kind enough to lend me that works , but the signal is weak and it could die at any moment... I"m at my wits end.. I have an expensive piece of equipment that wont hold the signal. I have updated the firmware and the Cisco connect software..

Has anyone tested QoS on the new E3000? Whenever I add an application (e.g. Voice Device) and set priority to Medium or High, my upstream bandwidth for everything else is immediately cut significantly, even when I'm not using the priority application.
For example, with QoS disabled, I can consistently get 10Mb upstream (speedtest.comcast.net). As soon as I enable QoS, upstream is capped to exactly 2Mb! On my old router, there was an option to set the total upstream bandwidth -- but on the E3000 there is no such option that I can find.

I am replacing an old G setup with the above system, Not interested in anything but an easy setup if I can avoid it.Set up the E3000 yesterday and was easy right out of the box. I'll receive the 2 AP's in a couple of days. The 2 AP's are hard wired to a switch along with the E3000. Would like to have the two AP's be JUST AP's! In other words, use the WPA2 of the E3000 only. Seamless roaming throughout the house, Is this possible?Anything I need to know before setting up the 2 AP's?
