Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.1 With Outlook Web Access
Jun 26, 2011
I have an AD User, lets call them workauser and there password just expired, so next logon to the domain they need to change there password. They decide while at home to connect to Outlook Web Access, which authenticates to via ACS 5.1 to AD, when they try and connect they are denied with the following message in ACS -
24407 User authentication against Active Directory failed since user is required to change his password Authentication failed.
Check the password expiry under Account options in the properties of an external database user. If the password is expired and the Enable Change Password is turned on in the Users and Identity Stores: External Identity Stores > Active Directory page, then the password will be changed.
Now, our OWA is not configured to allow password resets, so they must call in to have there password reset, or they can connect via VPN and our ASA allows them to change there password as configured under Identity Stores > Active Directory > Enable Password Change
This VPN password change is successful although OWA still will not work. The only way to fix it is to select passwsord does not expire within AD. Let it replicate, then de-select password does not expire and let it replicate.
This is pointing to a OWA issue in my opinion, although ACS is somehow involved, is it possible that ACS caches authentication, or because OWA does not allow password resets, it keeps responding with user required to change his password?

I am using ASA 5505 firewall with base-license. I connected my firewall to one cisco 3750 switch where i created 5 vlans. I done NATing for all vlans and they able to get internet and working fine. They able to browse all internet sites like gmail and yahoo mail.
All internal users are configured to use Outlook for their webmail. Here the problem is with outlook they are unable to send and receive the mails.
If they directly connected their system using public ip( Directly from ISP) they able to send and receive mails from outlook.

Is there any way to access a MS Exchange Server 2007 on Windows server 2008 through an ASA 5510 running 8.4 with a full MS Outlook client (not using OWA - web browser)? OWA is currently working fine but I was wondering if access via the full Outlook client is possible and more importantly...is it opening up too many ports on my 5510?

I have ACS 5.2 running as a VM. I'm AD, then local authentication successfully for device access, but I want to define ACS user groups to restrict login. I don;t see any way to do this. If I use AD groups, they don;t show up as selection options on the policy screens, just the ACS locallyy defined groups.

Since Monday, when I have tried to access my emails in Outlook, a box pops up saying Enter Network Password The box is already prepopulated, with Server: pop3.live.com User name: my email address and a password that shows up as a bunch of stars.
Clicking on "ok" or "cancel" just causes the box to pop up again. (I can still access my emails on Hotmail, BTW, and all internet is working fine). I access the web through Qwest/Century link and MSN.
I am hesitant to delete the password 'cause who knows what it is?? It is NOT my Windows Live/Live Mesh password, as it has one too many stars. But the box came up prepopulated so I assume at some point this was the correct password.
In the past when this happened, you could call Qwest/Century Link and they would walk me through (as best as I remember) redoing all the pop 3 settings. Now, they say they "don't support" MSN.

just upgraded from a Netgear 'G" router to the DIR-655, love the features of the 655 including the USB port. This is the issue, when I connect VPN to my job, I can see all of my files, databases, spread sheets, etc and use them no problem at all. Have a 25 meg connection via Comcast.I can not open my outlook 2003the program opens, however it just sits at trying to connect and then time out. Have tried for 10 days now with no luck. Lan team at job state that "N" routers are blocking traffic and ports that outlook needs, 5 other users have this problem at work.

When I connect to the exchange server by using Cisco VPN, microsoft outlook display warning "microsoft try to reconnect ... " many times, at that time I cannot send or receive email, it failed. The VPN still connected so I don't know why? At first I think the problem from MTU so I decrease the MTU but the problem still happens.

I have some users from another company who are visiting my company. The use outlook to access their mail. I think it is via RPC over https (ssl). When there are on my network they are unable to send messages but when the connect to an ISP directly they are able to send. I have a cisco 2821 as my internet router and an ASA5505 (8.0.5...i downgraded it from 8.2.3) as my firewall. I have not blocked anything from going out. Of note is that when other users use window live configured for gmail....which uses tls they are unable to send emails with atachements. Regular emails go though no problem. Hotmail can send atachments without a problem (there is no encrytion there). I have narrowed the issue down to how the firewall treats esmtp or tls traffic passing though it. I have already diabled inspect esmtp on the firewall.

I work in a two-person office that uses Comcast as their ISP. All of a sudden neither of us can't access our email via Outlook 2007 using hostmonster's servers. I was also unable to ping their IP Address from the command prompt though I could ping any other web site I tried successfully. Comcast says they are not blocking it. When I went home where I use Comcast I was able to access my email. I removed Webroot's security software which did not work. Windows Firewall is now being used.

ASA 5520 to get it to authenticate VPN users against and Active Directory environment plus allow management access as well. I created a Dynamic Access Policy on the ASA stating that if you are a member of the Active Directory group "Managment" the continue. I chagned the DefaultAccessPolicy to "Terminate". So with that, VPN users cannot connect because they are not a member of that group, but the access to manage the ASA is allowed because of that policy. Is there a way through using Dynamic Access Policies that I can allow management access (SSH, ASDM, etc) by matching to a group membership and will allow normal users to VPN in successfully but not allow them access to managing the ASA?

My company have an email address info@... which we currently have forwarded to a hotmail account and we work out of hotmail. We'd like to step it up a gear and be able to share the email account in Mircosoft Outlook (not Hotmail) across 2 different shops across London so both shops have access to the email address in Outlook. We would ideally like to know when an email has been replied to or deleted .etc. across both shops. We have a website, and web server with our hosting.

I can connect to Internet perfectly fine. I can even VPN back into my office. However, once connected via VPN and I launch my Outlook Client, I'm not able to connect to get emails. When I run a "netstat -a", I get my "SYN_SENT" to all my office domain controllers and exchange servers. However, if I connected via my Starhub USB Broadband dongle, everything works perfectly fine. What settings do I need to do on my router? I tried port forwarding and application rules but none worked.

We have a ASA 5510 which was running 8.0.2, we recently upgraded it to 8.2.5 and since the upgrade remote users for exchange 2007 are not able to download any large email attachments(over or close to 1MB). This is only happening to Outlook anywhere users or OWA users who are connecting to the exchange server using https(443) externally. If the same users connects internally they do not face any issue. When i check the logs on ASA i am gettings lots of RESET-O and RESET-I entries. Looks like the connection between the client and the server gets reset.

I have a new Lenovo Ideapad laptop and Im having problems connecting to internet using ethernet cable. The thing is this problem occurs only at one particular place (dorms) because Im having no internet problems at other locations.
It looks like this: I connect using ethernet cable, Windows 7 identifies the network and everything looks normal, but there is no internet when I open a browser (I tried IE, Firefox and Chrome). It just loads and loads and sometimes it loads my Google homepage, but only after approximately 30 seconds or it does not load it at all. The same applies for other pages - they do not load or they load after a minute, but the pages are incomplete, they look like HTML
When I do a ping at CMD, it shows the same problem, the replies are slow or it shows "request timed out". I tried pinging various pages or IPs with same results. The only thing Im able to ping normally is the IP of my network adapter. My IPv4 is set to automatic, but I also tried manual parametres, just in case.I tried 3 different cables, switching antivirus and frewall off, did spyware search, switching IPv6 off, switching WiFi off, reseting the main dorm router etc etc...
Strange thing is that my laptop works perfectly anywhere else (home, work...) so I suppose there is no problem with the configuration of my laptop or network adapter, BUT the internet provider says there is no problem with their network or router since other laptops works normally at THAT location (even my other laptop does work there), so mine Lenovo is the only laptop which is having problems... and when I check the properties of the network, upload is always higher than download, but generally both are very small one more strange thing: I can watch live stream videos using one particular software and I can download torrents quite normally, but loading Google and other pages is a major problem, even Outlook or Google Earth/Talk does not work properly
