Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 / Use The Ethernet Ports As Pure Physical Layer 3 Ports

Jun 9, 2013

We have an ASA 5505. 5505 comes with two default vlans 1&2 with each of them marked as inside & outside respectively. My query is , if i do not want to use vlans on 5505 and only want to use the Ethernet ports as pure physical layer 3 ports, is it possible?i.e. i want to assign a layer 3 ip address on eth0/0 and eth0/1 and make them as the inside & outside interfaces rather than vlans. is it possible to do away with vlans in 5505 & will it work otherwise?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5555-X - Spare Ports Into Access Ports?

May 14, 2013

Is there a way to associate spare firewall ports with another port that is being used..For example...int gi 0/2 is being used currently for my web dmz. Its ip is 192.168.10.1..Is there a way for me to associate gi 0/3 with the same layer 2 as gi 0/2 ?

In my webdmz I use 2 ACE 4710 proxys in FT mode. I used a layer 2 switch to connect firewall and proxys together.

I would like to eliminate this switch if possible..and connect both 4710's (layer 2) direct to firewall. If I could make gi0/2 - 4 part of the same vlan, then I would be good to go.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Implementing Mac-auth On Selected Ports Between An HP ProCurve 2510 And ACS 5.3?

Apr 15, 2012

I am having difficulties implementing Mac-auth on selected ports between an HP ProCurve 2510 and Cisco ACS 5.3.The 802.1x works just fine, but for selected ports I need to implement port-access with MAC-based authentication instead of regular 802.1X (yeah, I know, but this line of ProCurve switches only support one auth-mechanism per port!).The switch successfully forwards interesting MAC-auth requests for authentication to the ACS with CHAP/MD5, but the ACS reports this:

Logged At:
April 16,2012 1:20:48.080 PM
RADIUS Status:
Authentication failed : 22056 Subject not found in the applicable identity store(s). NAS Failure:

The ACS is configured to use the Internal Hosts database, where the client computer is configured like this;MAC-address: 00-26-55-88-6B-3D

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACL 122 - Setup Identity Firewall On ASA Version 5.6 On DMZ Interface

Aug 27, 2012

I have setup an Identity Firewall on a ASA version 5.6 on a DMZ interface.I have installed the ADAgent on a domain member Win2008 and configured as follows: [code]

where ashdew is a domain user and ACL 122(only one line) is applied on the dmz interface and NAT is properly configured. The ADagent has been properly tested and ASA can register to it.The ASA can connect to AD DC controller and query user database.I have placed a laptop ip 172.17.h.x on the DMZ and can ping the DMZ interface.

The laptop cannot authenticate on the domain and the asa does not seem to retrieve the user identity.Do I need to add extra rules in the access-list 122 to permit trafic to DC?Can I check on the AD Agent if it can retrieve the user to ip mapping ?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: 3550 Switch - Radius Server Source Ports 1645 - 1646?

I am configuring TACACS Authentication on Cisco 3550 switch .It has Version 12.2(25)SEA IOS image. A strange thing is happening, whenver I am enabling AAA new-model on this switch, and then after enabling I see ruuning-config . It shows me this

tacacs-server host x.x.x.x
tacacs-server host x.x.x.x
no tacacs-server directed-request
tacacs-server key 7 xxxxxx
radius-server source-ports 1645-1646

* included here to hide the specific information I dint specified any RADIUS server , why it is showing me radius-server source-ports 1645-1646 after enabling AAA New-Model As soon as i give "no aaa new-model", this parameter also vanishes. I think this is the only reason I am not able to do tacacs authentication.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5585 / Identity Firewall With Single Forest / Multi-Domain

Dec 28, 2011

I have a question with regard to setting up the ID firewall on the ASA 5585 in a single forest, multiple domain windows network.Currently I have a semi-operational IDF at the top level but can't find users on the lower other domains, here is the setup:I have 3 domains.

[URL]

Both domains have a two way parent-child trust and I can look for users in AD Users/Computer on both domains.  I initially setup the ASA to look at domain1.test.com using an LDAP aaa-server per the IDF instructions, and then proceeded to configure the ad-agent.  I installed the adagent on the domain1.test.com domain controller configured the settings on that system and had no problem adding users to the firewall and getting functionality within domain1.  I looked to see if I could see domain 2 and domain 3 users and found none.  I went ahead and added the domain2 system to the adagent on the DC and the system says that it is up, but when I search for users is not pulling them from domain2.  Instead, it shows domain1 users as domain2user1.  I also configured another adserver in the ASA to search ldap on domain 2 to no avail. The cisco documentation states the following:•Before you configure even a single domain controller machine using the adacfg dc create command, ensure that the AD Agent machine is first joined to a domain (for example, domain J) that has a trust relationship with each and every domain (for example, domain D[i]) that it will monitor for user authentications (through the domain controller machines that you will be configuring on the AD Agent machine). Single Forest, Multiple Domains—All the domains in a single forest already have an inherent two-way trust relationship with each other. Thus, the AD Agent must first be joined to one of the domains, J, in this forest, with this domain J not necessarily being identical to any of the domains D[i] corresponding to the domain controller machines. Because of the inherent trust relationship between domain J and each of the domains D[i], there is no need to explicitly configure any trust relationships.Reading that it sounds like it should just work.  I had everything properly configured before I installed the adagent, but I'm guessing that there is a chance that you can't have the adagent on the top level DC and get to communicate with the lower level domains.

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 Identity Based Firewall Doesn't Work Using Citric Published

Jul 26, 2012

We are using the newest release of AD Agent (1.0.0.32.1, built 598). The ASA Firewalls 5520 are having the software release 8.4(3)8 installed. When somebody tries to connect thru the Identity based firewalls from a citrix published desktop environment (PDI) the connection is not possible. Checking the ip-of-user mapping on the firewalls (show user-identity ip-of-user USERNAME) mostly doesn't show the mapping of the USERNAME and the PDI the user is logged in. The user-of-ip mapping of the PDIs IP-address shows mostly other users, which then are used to authenticate the acces thru the firewalls.

What is interesting, that on the AD Agent using "adacfg.exe cache list | find /i "USERNAME"" i can't see the PDIs IP-address neither because it is mapped to another user.Is Citrix Published Desktop environment supported to connect thru Identity based Firewalls? How AD Agent, Domain Controllers and Firewalls are working together? On the firewalls with "show user-identity ad-agent we see, the following:

-Authentication Port: udp/1645
-Accounting Port: udp/1646
-ASA Listening Port: udp/3799

Why Cisco does use 1645 and 1646 and not 1812 and 1813?The Listening Port is used for what purpose? we tried the AD Agent modes full- download and on-demand with the same effect.

Cisco Firewall :: 5510 Major Flaw In Identity Firewall?

Nov 21, 2011

I have just configured identity firewall on our ASA 5510.I have 3 nodes that authenticates against Active Directory, using the Windows Server 2008 R2 builtin Network Policy Server: A laptop, a stationary PC, and a Android Phone. All 3 nodes are authenticated using the same user/password.

Now, in ASDM -> Monitoring -> Properties -> Identity -> Users, I can see two of the nodes with my user name attached to it, namely the laptop and the stationary PC.But not the Android phone.

Then it dawned on me. To set up the ADAgent properly, you have to apply 2 group policy entries. Unfortunately, those 2 entries are applied to the Computer Configuraton part of the Group Policy. This means that your COMPUTER has to be a member of your domain for USER IDENTITY to work.So my Android phone and other nodes not a member of the AD Machine Store will never be detected by identity rules, and can roam the network free.

Cisco Firewall :: 5505 - Block Everything Except A Few Ports

Apr 15, 2013

We have a client that is running a PC on a internet over satellite. To avoid any unessecery traffic over the satellite link (data traffic is quite expensive), we've suggested to use a 5505, as we had one handy already.

So basically what we wanted was to block everything outgoing and everything ingoing, except for example port 22 (ssh).

But I'm struggling a bit, since this is my first cisco router to be configured.

My interfaces are as follows.
Outside - DHCP
Inside (port 1) - 192.168.1.1

I'm only running ipv4.

in ASDM I made a static NAT rule for port 22, being forwarded to 192.168.1.5 (the computer)

in Access rules I made under outside (incomming rules) source=any destination=outside service=ssh action=permit

But when I try to add further rules to block everything else, it takes the SSH on port 22 with it. How should I do this the easiest way?

the hardware setup is pretty straight forward.

sat-terminal(with IP 192.168.0.1 running DHCP)   ->  5505 (outside IP=DHCP - inside IP=192.168.1.1)   ->    computer (IP=192.168.1.5)

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 8.2 Won't Pass Ports Through Forward NAT

Nov 15, 2011

We're trying to get a remote access setup for someone who needs to have access from offsite. To make things easy we set it up with a virtual machine running Windows 7 and RDP. Because the "other end" isn't our computer and we've had some difficulties with people using the Cisco VPN client successfully, we were just going to set up a machine as a RDP Gateway and forward the port through the firewall (WebVPN might be nice, but the plugins only do RDP through v5.x). I've tried this on 8.4-1 and after reinstalling the latest 8.2, and supposedly the NAT works and there is a firewall rule allowing access from the outside to the RD-GW server on HTTPS, but the ASA is still blocking those packets. I've looked at 4 howtos and followed them, trying from the console and from ADSM (and one trashed the whole setup, probably related to the reinstall of 8.2) - [code]

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - PAT Range Of Ports

May 31, 2011

I've an ASA 5505 as my gateway for my internet at home. I've one public IP, so I use Port Address translatetion for my internal clients.

Now i wanna setup a FTP server, on a internal client. I will use Filezilla FTP server. I'm running the FTP server in passive mode, since the FTP server would be behind my ASA firewall/nat device.

I need 50 ports for the passive mode to be running.

I will use port range 50000-50050. I can easy make a firewall rule (access-list) that permit that port range.

But how do I PAT(NAT) a port-range on the ASA device? I can only figure out how to NAT one port at the time.
