Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505-ISP Providing DHCP And Separate IP Block
Mar 12, 2011
I have a ASA 5505 that I have been using for a while, but a new ISP is trying to configure my service so that the outside interface has to be configured as DHCP to receive a reserved IP address, and then they will route a separate, non-contiguous block of addresses to that address.
Essentially, they have a DHCP reservation for 1.2.3.4 for my ASA, and then they have 10.2.3.16/28 as a separate block routed to me.
Obviously, I can do my static NAT translations using outside as the address, but I cannot get the separate block of addresses to route through the ASA. Is there a way to do this and get them to work? My ASA is running 7.2(2)

I have a Cisco ASA 5500 as the main router with a DIR-655 as a wireless access point behind it. DHCP is turned off on the 655 as the ASA is providing DHCP. This worked great for about a year and now suddenly, without any changes, I'm having problems. The only thing that connects without a problem is a laptop, which shows up on the device list with an IP. Other devices have problems. iPhones connect, show an IP on the device itself, but when listed in the connected list on the 655 show no IP. The connection is super slow. An Airport Express will connect, but again, shows no IP in the connected list on the 655. Using the ethernet cable from the Airport Express, nothing can get an IP. I can live with the iPhone not connecting, but the Airport Express not connecting is a major problem. Any reason why this would just stop working one day?

1. I currently have a Comcast Business Class Gateway, Cisco 2100 Series WLAN Controller and a Cisco ASA 5505 all connected together to supply LAN and WLAN internet connections on my network.
2. I also have a Card Access Security System on it owns network. It currently does not have internet access.
I would like to put my security system on the internet so that I can support it remotely. To do this, it has to be on a firewalled internet connection. Can I put the two networks on my ASA 5505 and keep them seperate? I don't want to provide a path into the Security System through my current LAN & WLAN. But I do need a frewalled internet connection on my Security System. I am trying to avoid purchasing a seperate firewall.

I have an ASA 5505 with the security plus software and I'm trying to find out how to assign 2 public IPs to the outside interface and have each IP routed to a separate internal VLAN. For example, IP 1 = X.X.X.1 routed to 192.168.1.0 and IP 2 X.X.X.2 routed to 192.168.2.0. I was told this was possible and I've been trying to find configuration examples, but I can't seem to get anywhere and now I'm getting desperate because I'm scheduled to install it this weekend.

Here is where I want to go:
Windows server 2008 (providing DHCP and DNS) 192.168.89.1 on all
Cisco SG 300-20 (switch) 192.168.89.3
all Clients(15 x DHCP assigned IPs) connected to switch
WRT300N(192.168.89.2) connected to switch
Internet modem connected to WRT300N
To achieve this I need to disable DHCP on the WRT300N, since my server is providing DHCP.The issue I have is that when I disable DHCP at the WRT300N, I lose internet connection (connected to either switch or direclty to WRT300N).

i have a simple router on a stick config which is providing dhcp to a customer SSID. however i don't want employees to stay on it and eat the band width since its open. the lease is set to an hour, is there anyway that i could set it so that once your lease expired it can't be renewed for 4 about 8 hours? We have a client that is running a PC on a internet over satellite. To avoid any unessecery traffic over the satellite link (data traffic is quite expensive), we've suggested to use a 5505, as we had one handy already.
So basically what we wanted was to block everything outgoing and everything ingoing, except for example port 22 (ssh).
But I'm struggling a bit, since this is my first cisco router to be configured.
My interfaces are as follows.
Outside - DHCP
Inside (port 1) - 192.168.1.1
I'm only running ipv4.
in ASDM I made a static NAT rule for port 22, being forwarded to 192.168.1.5 (the computer)
in Access rules I made under outside (incomming rules) source=any destination=outside service=ssh action=permit
But when I try to add further rules to block everything else, it takes the SSH on port 22 with it. How should I do this the easiest way?
the hardware setup is pretty straight forward.
sat-terminal(with IP 192.168.0.1 running DHCP) -> 5505 (outside IP=DHCP - inside IP=192.168.1.1) -> computer (IP=192.168.1.5)

I was asked to block pings from the internet to the outside interface of our ASA-5505 firewall. I found a post that said to enter "icmp deny any outside", however that does not do it.
I created an ACL to try and do the trick, also to no avail:
access-list outside_in extended permit icmp any any echo-reply
access-list outside_in in interface outside
access-group outside_in in interface outside

I'm using an ASA5505 (8.4(1)) and would like to block port 80 on a specific host in the LAN so machines in other remote LANs connected via VPN can't access this port on the host. Devices in the local LAN should have access to this port on the host. Here are the commands I'm using:
-access-list block_port extended deny tcp any host 10.20.10.20 eq 80
-access-list block_port extended permit ip any any
-access-group block_port out interface inside
These commands are not working as I would expect them to. When I browse to http://10.20.10.20 from a remote machine over the VPN tunnel I am able to access the host web server.

We have an ASA 5505 and I want to block www.facebook.com for all users on the inside network. I followed the instructions laid out in Cisco support document ID 100513 using regular expressions with MPF but am running into some problems.

Once the configuration has been changed based on these instruction www.facebook.com is blocked. However I can't access any other websites except my Google News home page comes up just fine for some reason.

I am opening a small branch office in another state and the equipment we purchased is as follows:
ASA5505
3560G.
We'll use a site to site vpn but just in case there's connectivity issues I'd like to use the ASA as DHCP. So far I have a scope defined in the ASA and if I plug a laptop directly in I get an applicable IP address. I trunked the port on the switch that goes to the ASA but not the one on the ASA itself (license restriction) The VLAN that I'm using for my PC's has an ip helper address that is assigned to the inside IP of the ASA.

So here's what I think I should do to give email access only to a segment of addresses of my inside network.
1) Create a network object for 62 machines that will represent my dhcp clients.I plan to use 192.168.0.65-192.168.0.126. So I will use address 192.168.0.64 with netmask 255.255.255.192. Then set DHCP server to service this address range.
2) Create an ACL which will Permit Any to use tcp port 110 (pop3) to get to the outside. Which leads me to question #1:
How do I permit the source "Any" to communicate with "Any Less Secure Networks" like the implicit rule that gets zapped once I create new ACL? Is "Any Less Secure Network" implied by the "Any" destination?
3) Create an ACL which will Deny my DHCP range to talk to the outside.
4) Create an ACL which will Permit Any to talk to Any Less Secure Network(essentially recreating the implicit Permit ACL that got zapped).

I am used to setting up access-lists on outside interfaces with ip addresses that are static. I have recently been given a site that is using a dyndns.org client for name to ip address resolution on an outside interface that is dhcp assigned. I created an access-list to open up ports 41794 and 41795 to an engineering application but everytime I try to connect from the outside I get a syn timeout. The application works when inside the lan. Basically I want to allow outside connections from anywhere on the outside to go to ports 41794 and 41795. We've just started with the ASA 5505. We do run a DHCP server on the inside interface, so it is in the same VLAN 1 as all of the clients. However, we cannot get it to work.We can't use DHCP Relay, as the ASA 5505 only allows to relay to DHCP servers in a different subnet.Or do we have to move the DHCP server to a different subnet. If so, how would we configure that scenario?

I am having a very strange issue with connecting new machines to reach the internet. We have a ASA 5505 which the previous tech configured the DHCP pool to 192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.110
We ended up reaching our limit which I changed it to: 192.168.1.60 - 192.168.187
Then next day when I arrived to work, our DC was hung from windows updates. Once we got everything back up, every computer currently on the network can reach the internet/VPN tunnels etc. So (continuing with my day) I created a new server in a VM (Hyper-V)I can ping everything internally (even the router) 192.168.1.1, but I cannot resolve DNS. I have configured a static IP, tried Dynamic IP.I have looked for any ACL indicating to block outside the range of the old DHCP pool but no luck.On my local maching I can ping the DNS addresses, but just not on the new server.

My ASA 5505 has stopped giving out DHCP address to my machines.Everything was working fine and nothing has changed in the network. I've reloaded the firewall and clear all DHCP on the firewall I've even re-entered the cmd on the ASA.
I'm able to staticlly assigned address to the clients and all is way. When I do a DHCP debug on the ASA I don't see any events relating to the DHCP service apart from checking for lease expiry.
I've also tried to plug a machine straight into the ASA and no result. I finally did a packet capture and I am seeing the client machine sending out a DHCP discover packet and nothing else is responding.
My ASA config is:
dhcpd address 192.168.3.10-192.168.3.33 inside
dhcpd dns 8.8.4.4 interface inside
dhcpd option 3 ip 192.168.3.1 interface inside
dhcpd enable inside

My problem, in a nutshell, is that clients do not get an IP from an external DHCP server when connected to a guest VLAN.
My current setup is:
Native VLAN 1 (192.168.2.x)
2008 DHCP Servers
2504 WLC
[Code].....
The guest WLAN just uses WPA and a PSK and is set to interface vlan101 There rest of the 2504 config is default.
The ports that the WLC and APs are connected to are tagged on the correct VLANs. (is that even necessary for the AP now?)
Ive changed the interface config around a hundred times now with no luck. No matter what a client will not get an IP.
Could this be due to the 2504 and ASA both acting as DHCP relays? Ive tried setting the IP of the DHCP on the dynamic interface to many different things with no luck.

It looks like the ppoe client authentication is busy when the ip sla tracking mechanism becomes active. can i tweak the settings that the ip sla tracking mechanism starts later?

We have CISCO ASA 5505 in our office , right now port 0 has configured for outside and port 1 for inside (I believe it is the default configurations) now for security reason I want to separate the Network traffic from inside (office LAN) and WIFI , I believe since i have 6 ports in vlan1 (inside) if I make the port which has the connecting to our switch and the port which i m going to connect to my wireless router (same vlan1) protected / isolated then this should work , but here is what is happening , the minute I save the configurations port 3 which is supposed to be my wifi port will lose its connection to the Internet.
i tried to make another vlan for wifi to separate the trafic from vlan1 , but I m not getting internet connection on that port which is been assigned to new vlan for wifi.

I'm having trouble setting up a second IPSec VPN tunnel on my Cisco ASA 5505 to another office. I was able to setup the first one with no problem through the ASDM, but have not been able to get the second one up.The IPSec tunnel is connecting to a WRVS4400N router at the other office. I tried debugging crypto isakmp, and crypto ipsec, but I'm getting nothing. Below is the config. Does something look wrong on my end? I also attached a screenshot of the parameters setup on the remote router.
