D-Link DIR-655 :: DHCP Turned Off As ASA 5500 Is Providing DHCP

May 30, 2011

I have a Cisco ASA 5500 as the main router with a DIR-655 as a wireless access point behind it.  DHCP is turned off on the 655 as the ASA is providing DHCP.  This worked great for about a year and now suddenly, without any changes, I'm having problems.  The only thing that connects without a problem is a laptop, which shows up on the device list with an IP.  Other devices have problems.  iPhones connect, show an IP on the device itself, but when listed in the connected list on the 655 show no IP.  The connection is super slow.  An Airport Express will connect, but again, shows no IP in the connected list on the 655.  Using the ethernet cable from the Airport Express, nothing can get an IP.  I can live with the iPhone not connecting, but the Airport Express not connecting is a major problem.  Any reason why this would just stop working one day?

D-Link DIR-655 :: DHCP Off / Multicasting Turned On Under Advanced Settings

Dec 15, 2012

I've got a DIR-655 that I use as a wireless access point/switch (dhcp off) behind my Actiontec Verizon Fios router. The DIR-655 is in the basement and has my PS3 and Xbox hard wired to it.I've got playon server setup on my pc upstairs which is connected wireless to the Actiontec router. If I connect my ps3 wirelessly to the Actiontec, it immediately sees the playon server and streams movies without issue. However, when I hardwire the PS3 to the DIR-655, it will not pickup the playon server connected to the Actiontec router.I've got dhcp turned off and multicasting turned on under advanced settings of the Dlink.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505-ISP Providing DHCP And Separate IP Block

Mar 12, 2011

I have a ASA 5505 that I have been using for a while, but a new ISP is trying to configure my service so that the outside interface has to be configured as DHCP to receive a reserved IP address, and then they will route a separate, non-contiguous block of addresses to that address.

Essentially, they have a DHCP reservation for 1.2.3.4 for my ASA, and then they have 10.2.3.16/28 as a separate block routed to me.

Obviously, I can do my static NAT translations using outside as the address, but I cannot get the separate block of addresses to route through the ASA. Is there a way to do this and get them to work? My ASA is running 7.2(2)

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT300N Not Providing Internet When DHCP Disabled

Here is where I want to go:

Windows server 2008 (providing DHCP and DNS) 192.168.89.1 on all
Cisco SG 300-20 (switch) 192.168.89.3
all Clients(15 x DHCP assigned IPs) connected to switch
WRT300N(192.168.89.2) connected to switch
Internet modem connected to WRT300N

To achieve this I need to disable DHCP on the WRT300N, since my server is providing DHCP.The issue I have is that when I disable DHCP at the WRT300N, I lose internet connection (connected to either switch or direclty to WRT300N).

I do not understand and could not finf hints how the function is.

- backup server with a timeout when no answer comes from primary ?

- should ASA do simultaneous discover to all configured ip's ?

=>Problem is, that although the first server not answered in a timely manner, we noticed no discover to the second.

Cisco Wireless :: 5500 / Dhcp Proxy Option In Controller?

Jul 2, 2012

While configuring a 5500 wireless controller, i came across this option of DHCP proxy under Advanced tab of Controller Option. It asks for the dhcp option 82 remote id format & the dhcp timeout.

1. What is the significance of this & when do we use it?

2. Also, under each wlan ssid that we create, there is an option of dhcp address required under the advanced tab. Do we need to use this option, if we are defining a normal dhcp pool in our controller for that ssid.

I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?

Unknown DHCP Clients In D-link DIR-615?

As far as I know, I should only see 4, all 4 laptops; however, I see 2 UNKNOWN entries in this list, and one name "Macondo". Each of these entries have an option (a link) saying "Revoke" and other "Reserve". I am just wonder if these entries are intruders in my home network. What should I do? I am afraid to break my internet connection. By the way, I set up every single one of my family 4 laptops at home with a WPA-PSK using a very long key.

D-Link DIR-825 :: B1 2.06NA Does Not Get DHCP From DSL Modem?

Apr 20, 2012

Signed up for Sonic Fusion, received ZTE 831 modem in bridge mode, DHCP off.

Have tried many variations of D-Link settings with WAN DHCP and it just does not get an IP address from the ISP. Unicast on/off, DNS relay on/off, SPI on/off, etc.

With the modem settings unchanged, can plug cable from PC directly into modem. It gets an ISP DHCP and works fine. DNS and internet access work, can surf google.com.

Have an Airlink AR525W wireless router. When it is set to DHCP WAN, it also "just works" when plugged into the DSL modem. It is using the router MAC, did NOT clone the MAC from my PC. The Airlink LAN IP is 192.168.1.1, same as the D-Link. The copy-paste from the Airlink configuration screen:

Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP
Internet IP Address: 173.228.4.46
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 173.228.4.1
DNS 1: 208.201.224.11
DNS 2: 208.201.224.33
DNS 3: 0.0.0.0
MTU: Auto

The D-Link was working fine with ATT DSL and PPPoE (this is in SF Bay Area, 94022), but extremely frustrating that it does not seem work to with Sonic DHCP. Called Sonic support, and was able to confirm that plugging the PC directly into the modem works fine. So it seems there is a problem with the DIR-825 (or configuration of it).

D-Link DIR-655 :: DHCP Not Working For One Client

Feb 26, 2011

I recently upgraded from a WRT54G and am having issues with a Win7 PC with wireless-N. Initially I had it configured static at 192.168.100.100 and everything worked, but the speeds were miserable (I followed all the forum posts and recommended settings). I noticed in the Status section of the router pages that the system showed up with the correct MAC address, but the IP showed as 192.168.100.10, which is the same as the router. Assuming this might be causing issues, I set a reservation for the system at .100 and set the client to use DHCP.  However, now it won't pull an IP address at all.  The status pages show the client with the correct MAC address, but an IP of 0.0.0.0.  I've verified the MAC address a dozen times and rebooted the router and the client dozens of times with no change. Even when I removed the reservation, the system won't pick up an IP.  I have a wireless-G client that's pulling an IP fine, so I know it's sort of working.  The wired LAN is working fine, too.  There are no IP conflicts, either. I changed DHCP to 'Always Broadcast (compatibility for some DHCP clients), but no change there, either.  The client sees the network and still has a good signal, but just won't grab an IP.

I'm running Hardware Version: B1 /  Firmware Version: 2.01NA

D-Link DIR-655 :: DHCP / Firewall And Wireless Does Not Work

May 27, 2012

My DIR 655 is refusing to act like a router and more like a normal switch. Anything involving the router side of things(DHCP,firewall, wireless, etc) does not work.

Basically when it powers up the blue power light comes on and that's it. If I plug my cable modem into the wan port then this light comes on with nothing else. If I then proceed to plug a cable into Lan 1 I get the address of my cable modem assigned to my computer and all internet access is fine. As opposed to being assigned an address from the router's DHCP. If I plug a cable from another router into any of the lan ports on the DIR 655 then I get assigned addresses from that router's DHCP and all internet access is routed through.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't Obtain A DHCP Address For IP Phone

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't Connect Properly To Verizon / Frontier DHCP DSL

Jan 31, 2011

I have a DIR-655 (RevA) which I have been very happy with when used with a broadband wireless ISP.  We just recently obtained Frontier DSL and I want to use my already configured DIR-655 with the new service.  I have successfully bridged the Westell 7500 DSL modem provided by Frontier (DHCP server turned off, mode set to bridge-bridge.)  I tested this by attaching a laptop and verifying that it was assigned a WAN IP address and that I could ping resources on the Internet.

When I attach the DLink and start it up, it gets a WAN address and everything looks good, but I can not ping (from the router) to any resource on the Internet (by IP address), including the assigned gateway.  It goes without saying that computers attached to the DIR-655 are also unable to ping addresses on the Internet.  Oh, I have cloned the Westell modem's MAC address to the DLink router as well.

Any special settings in the DIR-655 that are required to work with Frontier/Verizon's DSL network?  Or compatibility issues?  and I've updated to the 1.35NA firmware.

D-Link DIR-825 :: DGL-4500 MAC Address In DHCP Reservations List

Jan 13, 2010

I have a setup using LogMeIn Hamachi and the network type creates a Windows Bridge. I also use the DHCP Reservations List to assign the same IP to specific devices. Well I have the MAC Address for my NIC in the list which works when I am not using the bridge. When using the bridge, of course the MAC address changes and when I try to add it to the list I get the following message in a popup window. The MAC Address is 02:e0:61:05:45:3e I have tried manually entering it, letting the router enter it from the list of computers and just to rule out something stupid, I have tried changing the letters to upper case and removing the colons.

Another issue I can see when this issue is resolved is that I do not believe it will let me add this reservation since I will be using the same IP used by another reservation. My DGL-4500 allowed this if I had the other reservations using the same IP disabled.Below these comments/rants are some feature requests. I have put them last as some of the requests are explained in the comment/rant section.I have read through this list and I have to say that after I purchased the router, which I ordered on-line, I was dreading it, but I have not had issues. It is possible that I am not using features that cause this issue. I believe the issues occur when using certain configurations with the "Enable Advanced DNS Service" enabled. I am not using this service. Since I knew people were having issue s with it, I wanted to see my results leaving that out. I have had this router running since a week before Christmas and I have many Virtual Server entires, QoS and port forwarding entries, https based remote administration, both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks enabled supporting a/b/g/n(on both networks) and a guest network enabled on both bands all supporting WPA (TKIP and AES). I have 2 Giga wired connections that are always active, a 100Mb connection that is on an off but used almost daily, 2 Laptops that use the 2.4GHz network daily and one is 802.11g 54Mb and the other is 802.11n 150Mb and they are on at the same time almost daily, a printer that is on and used multiple times a week that uses 802.11g and a game system that uses 802.11a this device is used daily. Most devices are on and used at the same time daily and we have a good deal of regular Internet traffic and moderate other network traffic during these times. At night all computers are backed up over the network and most of the other network devices are off or not during this time. Other than having to reboot my Internet hardware provided by my ISP, I have not had issues. The router has been rebooted for config changes and I usually cycle it when I cycle the Internet hardware. Point is, so far no issues, good performance and it works and I have of course had other devices connected using the guest network and I have been testing features, performance, etc.

What's up with having so much variation in how features work across routers?e.g. My DHCP Reservation issue above. This router does not work with a setup like my DGL-4500.This router allows a preset amount of services like QoS and Virtual Server entries while the DGL-4500 just lets you add entries. Now maybe there is a limit and it just looks like there is no limit. Of course, there is at least a limit that is reached when you have used a certain amount of memory with the configuration.so many routers while leaving gaps and the lack of feature explanation and comparison?I switched to this router because I wanted a dual band setup which my DGL-4500 does not provide. That leads to the issue of the new way D-Link deals with dual-band. When I purchased the router it did not list that you had to choose 2.4GHz or 5GHz or it is not simultaneous dual-band. I was duped because I used to install DWL-7100AP for people that needed better wireless options for home businesses and small businesses and that provides simultaneous dual-band and back then if it was dual-band it was simultaneous. But I am disappointed in some of the features lost like WISH support and a few options here and there which do not seem like they are specific to gaming routers and this router is more on the mid range and low high range end of consumer, prosumer, home business and lower traffic small business routers, so why is it missing these features and why does it have the limitations I listed in the "variation in how features work" section above?

Other examples of lack of feature clarity are with Game Fuel, HD FUEL and Intelligent QoS. Isn't Game Fuel Intelligent QoS of some sort. Now from the example provided in the overview for the DGL-4500, Game Fuel optimizes game performance, but it does not say this is automatic or if it works along with the rules you set in the Game Fuel section which is the same as the QoS Engine section in the DIR-825. The difference is that the DIR-825 has a "Enable QoS Engine" option while the DGL-4500 has an "Enable Game Fuel" option. It seems that Intelligent QoS does what Game Fuel does, but expands that to VOIP, Media Streaming, etc. and it may be more automatic. HD Fuel in the only place I have seen it mentioned seems to refer to the combination of Intelligent QoS and the inclusion of 5GHz wireless support. Of course there is no version and feature documentation and in fact while the overview of the DIR-825 talks about gaming with Intelligent QoS, but if you bring up a comparison of routers, the chart has no in the gaming section for the DIR-825. I can't say I have noticed better or worse gaming performance with the DIR-825 compared with the DGL-4500, but given the shear lack of documentation on how to use Game Fuel and Intelligent QoS properly, who knows if I have this setup correctly. I will say the QoS Engine section in the DIR-825 is easier to use than the Game Fuel section in the DGL-4500.

1) The ability to reduce the brightness of the status lights, set them to solid if enabled with brightness options and to set them to off with an option to have some very faint light to show that the router is on. Of course I should be able to set different options to be applied at specific times.

2) Add the applicable features missing from the DIR-825 that are found in the DGL-4500 and applicable features from other routers. Also, get them all so they work the same on each router and let get the best from them all and make that the standard. e.g. In my DHCP reservation example above don't set the standard to the limitations of the DIR-825, but make the DGL-4500 function set or better function set of all routers combined for each feature the standard with-in router categories. e.g. the DIR-825, DGL-4500 and DIR-855 would be in the high end router category for consumer, prosumer, home business and lower traffic small business routers.

3) For DHCP reservations, you should not be limited to the DHCP IP Address Range.

4) On the log-in screen, get a better captcha and fix the tab order.

5) Add a log-out option in the web interface.

6) Allow for a next hop option in the DCHP server section. It would be cool, if there could be a list of IPs allows one to be enabled at a time.

7) Allow different DHCP server settings for each network. There are 5 on the DIR-825. Wired, 2.4GHz regular, 2.4GHz Guest, 5GHz regular and 5GHz Guest. Would be nice if you could set a couple of VLANs on the Ethernet ports and then have different DHCP setings for each VLAN.

For guest wireless networks, allow rules to be set to allow access to certain services on the network. E.g. I may want to allow printing. So allow a single port or multiple ports with easy settings for consecutive port ranges to be opened to an IP, IP range or all IPs and allow all ports for an IP or range of IPs. Of course, leave the allow full access option.

8a) Allow users to set rule sets that can be enabled/disabled like the full access option.

8b) Allow a control that can be set in the rule sets that controls if the wireless devices can talk to each other and another that controls if they can access devices on the wired network and another that controls if the wireless devices can access the Internet.

8c) Allow rules above to be limited to be applied to specific MAC Addresses.

8d) These options would be good to have for the non-guest wireless networks and wired network as well.

We're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. Also, the DGL-4100 doesn't list it under the DHCP clients, but as I've got the DAP-1522 set to a static IP of 192.168.1.50.
