i have a simple router on a stick config which is providing dhcp to a customer SSID. however i don't want employees to stay on it and eat the band width since its open. the lease is set to an hour, is there anyway that i could set it so that once your lease expired it can't be renewed for 4 about 8 hours? I am using a cisco 2600 router in this setup.
View 1 RepliesMy network generally runs older routers (2600 series) with 16 port switch modules (NM-ESW-16). This has always worked great since I can configure the router and the switch ports on the fly, making changes to either as necessary. Well I am upgrading to 2811 routers, and we wanted to get gigabit ethernet ports on our switch modules. I think I made an error when I purchased a few of these switch modules: NME-16ES-1G.
The first problem, is that the switch ports don't even show up on the router config, I have to establish a session into the switch, (And I can't seem to get back to the router unless I manually switch off power and restart). I don't like this type of switch module, it's like I'm running a completely separate device, and while having a layer 3 switch is cool, It doesn't let me setup routing protocols so I don't like doing it this way. I want to go back to using a switch module that simply adds a ton of ports to my router like the NM-ESW-16. (Note: The NM-ESW-16 does actually work in the 2811 and would be perfect if it were Gigabit speed.)
The seconds problem is that the NME-16ES-1G isn't actually a Gigabit switch. It has a single gigabit port, but the 16 ports are all Fastethernet, and not gigabitethernet. So ideally, I am looking for a switch module that I can fully configure from the router interface that has 16 gigabitethernet ports, and works with a 2811. IE I want to do this. [code]
I am attempting to upgrade from a Cisco3945 to a ASR1002. On my Cisco3945, I have interface associated with VLANs. It appears that with the new IOSX, VLAN configuration has changed. Any config to setup a simple VLAN?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have a 2600 that I have configured three sub interfaces on. FA0.0.1 is set for DHCP and supports VLAN 1. FA 0/0.2 for Voice, FA 0/0.3 for Data. I have this router interface plugged into FA 0/24 on my 3550 and the 3550 is configured as a dot1Q trunk (I have attached configs for RTR and SW).I have most ports configured as access VLAN 1 which is where i have my ISP connection plugged FA0/1 on the 3550. When I connect the service provider link FA0/0.1 never picks up an address. If I take my internal DHCP server and connect it to FA0/1 of the 3550 it snags an address almost immediately.In my mind this validates that my config is fine. I also took the same cable from the service provider cable modem and connected it to my laptop and the laptop is pulling DHCP.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having a problem with DNS name resolution after configuring my router (Cisco 3725 running IOS image: c3725-adventerprisek9-mz.124-25.bin) for handling DHCP requests.
Before I made the change, everything was working correctly; I could ping Google.com from a computer inside my LAN and would get response from one of Google's public IP's like normal.
I had a separate DHCP/DNS server running Windows Server 2008 handling the DHCP request and DNS queries.

I am trying to configure interface vlan1 to get an ip address from dhcp by entering the commnad ip address dhcp ios rejects the dhcp portion of my command as not recognised although it is referred to in Cisco manuals.my IOS version is c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA14.bin.I get the same problem when I try to configure ip http secure-server on the switch. Is this a known bug or whether I have the correct IOS version for these commands?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco ASA 5500 as the main router with a DIR-655 as a wireless access point behind it. DHCP is turned off on the 655 as the ASA is providing DHCP. This worked great for about a year and now suddenly, without any changes, I'm having problems. The only thing that connects without a problem is a laptop, which shows up on the device list with an IP. Other devices have problems. iPhones connect, show an IP on the device itself, but when listed in the connected list on the 655 show no IP. The connection is super slow. An Airport Express will connect, but again, shows no IP in the connected list on the 655. Using the ethernet cable from the Airport Express, nothing can get an IP. I can live with the iPhone not connecting, but the Airport Express not connecting is a major problem. Any reason why this would just stop working one day?

To achieve this I need to disable DHCP on the WRT300N, since my server is providing DHCP.The issue I have is that when I disable DHCP at the WRT300N, I lose internet connection (connected to either switch or direclty to WRT300N).
It doesn't seem like I can set up trunking (dot1q) on this device. Isn't it supported on this device? Can I still set up VLANs with the router-on-a-stick concept working internal in the device, i.e no external interfaces/subinterfaces being configured? If so, can I then connect VLANs to other switches? I have:

I know the small biz switch supports VLANs and I think trunking as well--obviously the 2960 supports it. Is there a way with these devices to configure one VLAN for servers/net devices and another for regular end-user computers so that they still talk to one another, or do I need a different router in the mix?
I have recently made a WAN change from T1 to fiber and my Cisco 2600 series router no longer needs to connect over the Serial T1 card. The Serial connection also provided a few voice channels for the old phone system that are no longer needed. I need to keep Main Cisco 2600 router in place because I have many network devices that use it as the gateway instead of my firewall. I will not require the second subnet for Offsite Cisco 2600 anymore either. commands that will be required to remove all instances of the Serial connection and Offsite Cisco 2600. In my test network I am currently working with a "Router on a stick" setup. A Cisco 2611 router connecting a Cisco 2950 switch. VLANs configured on the switch and subinterfaces + dot1q encapsulation configured on the router. Switch only supports dot1q.Router's Eth0/1 is connected to the Switch Fa0/24 port which is also set to trunk mode. I am using a normal Cat5e twisted pair cable to connect the 2 devices.
VLANs are working since I can connect a workstation to an access port for example fa0/2 (vlan2) and get Internet access.I can also ping any of the subinterfaces of the router from the workstation.With the current setup I am not able to ping the switch from the router, or the other way around, so in other words I can't remote manage the switch from a telnet or SSH session with this setup. The Wi-Fi (Dot11Radio) config has enabled me to see the SSID from wireless devices, but they never get an IP address. I need them to get the same IP range as the DHCP service I have in there 203.35.10.xxx, there is no option for "IP ADDRESS DHCP" only "IP ADDRESS POOL LAN" Lan is of course my DHCP pool name. however I cannot have the same DHCP pool on both Dot11Radio interfaces.
I know I'm missing one very simple command, but as I've never worked with Radio on Cisco equipment, I am unsure how to fix it.
Then once I get that worked out, I need changing the access from OPEN to WPA or WPA2, etc..

I have a ASA 5505 that I have been using for a while, but a new ISP is trying to configure my service so that the outside interface has to be configured as DHCP to receive a reserved IP address, and then they will route a separate, non-contiguous block of addresses to that address.
Essentially, they have a DHCP reservation for 1.2.3.4 for my ASA, and then they have 10.2.3.16/28 as a separate block routed to me.
Obviously, I can do my static NAT translations using outside as the address, but I cannot get the separate block of addresses to route through the ASA. Is there a way to do this and get them to work? My ASA is running 7.2(2)
Few days ago I faced a issue in which one of ours 4500 stopped providing poe on some ports in one line card. I called TAC and ran some diagnostics. However, there is a command that I found and it is NOT DOCUMENTED on 4500 reference guide! The command is "diagnostic monitor poe". This command actually detects/recover POE hardware failures! View 4 Replies View RelatedI am connecting a 2600 router to an ISP. Interface 0/0 is connected to the ISP using DHCP. Interface 0/1 is connected to the inside providing DHCP services to the inside. At least it should only be providing DHCP services to the inside. I also have a public static IP that is NAT to a private static IP. Everything is working except the computer on the static IP. From the router I am able to ping inside and out from each interface. I am able to ping both interfaces of the router from the computer on the static IP but I cannot ping outside the router. If I do a debug all I see a reject for the gateway of the static IP but it has “mobile IP” in the text string. Not sure what mobile IP is relating to. Networks are as follows:

I have a cable modem with my 2600 Router and i have a little speed problem when I'm going out to the web via my F0/0.. according to regular speed test sites my speed is around 20mbps but when i hook up to my modem directly i get a solid 40mbps.. now I've changed my Cat 6 cable from my modem to my router and this are my settings in the router.

I have been saving money to build my ccna voice lab. Recently I bought 2600 and 1700 series routers.One of the 2600 router needed a password recovery so after a refreshing nap i got to work.

I recently lost my configuration when attempting to reset the password for our Cisco 3560g switch, the switch connects to a Cisco 4506 switch via fiber back to our main office.
I have the switch temporarily routing all traffic to our 4506 by using the default route of 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.254 but the same switch is connected to a cisco 2600 router that is on a 10.10.20.0 network and the 3560g is on a 10.0.0.0 network.
Host computers sit on the 10.0.0.0 network, but they need to go to the 10.10.10.0 network for internet, domain, etc the same computers need to go to the 10.10.10.20 for remote connections and other services.
The address of the 3560g is: 10.0.0.254
The address of the 2600 is 10.10.20.2
When the default route is set to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.254 (4560 switch) domain browsing works perfectly
When the default route is set to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.20.2 (3560G) switch I can ping any ip address in that range and the address on the other
interface ip adresses on the 2600 (eg. 10.10.30.1 / eth2, 10.10.40.1/ eth3 etc.)
I have tried to weight the routes after adding them both to the configuration, but that doesn't seem to work at all.
The switch connects back to the office via vlan1 (10.10.10.253)
The 2600 is connected to port 1, which belongs to Vlan2 (10.10.20.1)
And client computers sit on ports 2-12 belonging to Vlan10 (10.0.0.240)
So in a nut shell, how would I go about setting it up so the machines on 10.0.0.0 can connect to 10.10.20.0 and 10.10.10.0 and vice versa at the same time? Everything was working fine until I rebooted the switch (3560g), which makes me think the person that configured this before me didn't save the running config to the start up config.
