Apr 18, 2012I have a cisco ASA 5510 that I have set up currently to access via ASDM through the Inside interface. When I VPN in using our older VPN server I can connect to it fine. I recently set up the ASA to also be a VPN server which will eventually replace the older server for our HQ. I noticed that when I'm VPN using the ASA as the VPN server, I can only ASDM to the public which I prefer not to allow. Access to the inside doesn't seem to work this way. What configurations if any would be causing this. I'm assuming it's some thing I need to adjust in the VPN configuration.

I can through my VPN tunnel access inside hosts on vlan1 - but not ASDM on the ASA (192.168.0.1). Under management i've added the VPN network of 192.168.50.0/24 to have access to ASDM, but still does not work.

May 21, 2012I have a remote ASA5505 running 8.4(3) with a working site 2 site VPN tunnel to my main office. (The main office is running an ASA 5510 with OS 8.4.3 as well). The encryption domain is all private IP on main site vs. 172.16.10.0/23 on remote site.
Relevant config of the remote ASA:

I can manage the ASA on the outside interface (outside of the site 2 site VPN) using the TACACS credentials I can also ping my management station from the ASA using the inside interface, but as stated, the other way around does not work. I have not yet tested if management from the local 172.16.10.0/23 subnet works, but I will try this next.

Is there a way to disable the assignment of a default gateway upon login?
The value assigned is meaningless. It's just the next available address in the local pool.

I have set it up the VPN using the wizard, they way I normally do, but the clients have no access to anything in the inside subnet, not even the inside interface IP address of the ASA. Thay can ping each other. The remote access policy below that I am working on is labeled VPNPHONE, address pool 172.16.20.1-10. I do not need split tunneling to be enabled. Apr 19, 2011I have two ASA5510 with a peer to peer VPN configuration which is working pretty well.I'm trying to connect to my remote ASA (ASA2) with ASDM on my PC through the VPN on the local ASA (ASA1)I already connected the ASDM to ASA1 through the inside interface but I cant connect to the ASA2 the same way (over the VPN).

Mar 28, 2012I have two identical ASA 5505. I can only access through https/asdm on one of the devices from same laptop. Below is the configuration of the ASA. My internal machine ip address 10.0.0.10/8. I have tried to remove and re-enter the "http" and "Crypto key" related command. Wireshark show "Alert (level: Fatal, Description: Handshake Failure)" right after I entered URL in browser-tried IE and Chrome. Java version should not be a problem as I can access the second ASA.

Nov 26, 2012I have an ASA 5550 running 8.4(5) and have installed ASDM 7.0(2), but when I try to manage the bookmarks under the Remote Access - Portal when I try to edit an individual item in a bookmark list the screen does not display any information. Is this a know bug, or do I need to have a specific java version for the new ASDM? As a side note, I have not noticed any other issues with the new version of ASDM, only the bookmarks. I initially tried to downgrade the ASDM version that I was using to connect, but it will no longer allow me to connect.

I watched a video on YouTube stating that upgrading the ASA is easiest if you upgrade ASDM, then the ASA. Problem is, I don't think I can upgrade ASDM first because I don't see a version that is compatible with ASA 7.2.x and 8.0.x.

I found an old post from 2008 and replied. It refers to an article talking about it is not possible to enable https server and webvpn on the same interface.
Well I am running ASA 8.0(4) so this restriction does not apply.

Nov 16, 2011I have successifuly upgraded ASA and ASDM image. My question is how to make it to boot it as default when you do a factory reset of the device. For the ASA image I found out that it will boot the first image it founds on the flash, so I left only the latest bin file and if I do factory reset it boot the latest. But for ASDM it still boots the old one, because there is no "asdm image disk0:/asdm-645.bin" command in the config. I`m not sure how, because I only left the new ASDM bin image. Is there any variable or something that still points to old asdm image?
My ASA version is 8.4(2) and ASDM 6.4(5). The old one was ASA 8.2 and ASDM 6.3.

Apr 10, 2012We have a new installation of a ASA 5505 and are trying to get some NAT issues straightened out. On our internal network, we have two servers running Filemaker Server, a relational database server that clients connect with using port 5003. Our goal is to be able to allow users from the outside to access either of these servers as needed. I know how to set up a simple static NAT rule and matching Access rule in ASDM which would be fine for a case in which only one server using a given port is running on a network, but for simple static rules I seem to be blocked from entering a different translated port number from the orginal port number, which becomes a problem when two servers we need to access from the outside are running software using the same port number.
What is the simplest way to address this need? I am guessing that I need to set up a scenario like this, where port 5004 (or any arbitrarily choosen unused port, can be used to access the second server: [code]

Jan 9, 2013Remote LAN pool is configured as inside. Route is proper. I am able to open 443 port from the remote LAN pool on the ASA. That means, the port is open from the remote pool. No response if I try https on the browser.

(I haven't done it in 5 years so I'm rusty and just want ot make sure.) The ASA and ASDM are up to date.Am i correct in that I only need to change the external address in the configuration under Interfaces, then under Routing - Static Routes - Gateway IP I just need to enter the new WAN gateway address?

Feb 6, 2013I have an ASA-5505 which I have been managing using ASDM from a PC and a Mac.I just happens that the Mac has not been used in a little while and when I tried to use ASDM on it, it fails.I've had a trawl through various posts and release notes (after updating various components in the process, incl Java with all the diabling/security updates of late) but am still having the problem and this is where I'm at:
- the ASA runs v8.4(2) and ASDM 7.1(1)52
- release notes state that ASDM 7.1 should work on Java 7 on Windows 7 and MacOS 10.7
- ASDM starts fine on my Windows 7 PC running Java 1.7.0_13
- I am also running Java 1.7.0_13 on MacOS 10.7.5
- on MacOS, ASDM starts, asks for credentials, download/refreshes the cached app... and then crashes with the following exception message:
The root cause of the issue seems to be that a Java class called apple.laf.AquaTableHeaderUI is not found..Now, I don't know much about Java, but that seems to be an Apple UI related class - I presume that it would be good to use this to give ASDM a more native look and feel, but why on earth is there no fallback? or am I missing something?
