I am having peculiar issue in my setup. I recently replaced my ASA 5505 (8.2.1) with ASA 5510 (8.4.3). Everything works fine for a while suddenly I see some of the servers will not be reachable from the LAN all the servers gateway is my switch. If I check on my Dell switch the particular server's arp entry on the connected port is same as ASA physicall MAC. If im reverting to 5505 ASA everything goes smooth without any issue.
We have a 3560 switch behind a ASA 5510 at a site that we are trying to access via telnet over the internet, we find out the switch does not have a default gateway configured. So I configure the following rule on the 5510: [code] Try accessing the switch, and all is good. One of our change control steps is to identify any others are connected to the device via: [code] I see the connection and show users command return 172.16.30.15, as expected. How is it possible that address can connect to that switch.
I have a asa 5510 vpn client groups configured and connected to the internal network DHCP server stops giving network service dhcp and the network goes down.
I face a strange bahavior with my rv220w router : I set up access rules to deny all outbound trafic for a particular IP range. It seems to work fine .... but when I enable content filtering, HTTP access on port 80 works again (and other ports are denied). It seems that activating content filtering makes the router ignore firewall rule.
I have a 5510 using AnyConnect VPN clients. I have a DNS name for my router to accept connections ie cisco.mydomain.com..I can ping the address by hostname from the clients machine ok but when the AnyConnect client opens it has my hostname ie (cisco.mydomain.com) but says "invalid host entry" I have to type in my IP address for it to connect.I have the hostname in my AnyConnectProfiles.xml.
I am having an ASA 5510 and have configured Clientless SSL VPN in it. Now I need to allow my SSL VPN user to access on a particular application(like mspaint.exe for example). When the user login to the SSL VPN, he should see only the particular aplication or must be able to access on the particular application.
Can ASA 5510 be configured as bridge mode and still send Netflow info to a collector? We have a PIX connect internal network to internet. Because PIX does not support NetFlow, as a temporary solution, we were thinking of putting an ASA 5510 between the PIX and internet gateway, and configure it as a bridge so that there will be no routing issues, and the ASA can still send Netflow info to a collector.

I configured a remote-access vpn on an ASA 5510 version 8.3. This is the configuration [code]The vpn goes up and I get an ip address, but it's impossible to reach the internal network. [code]
I have a requirement to NAT a spare address on the same subnet range as one of the firewall interface - however, because this is not allocated to a physical interface, there is no mac entry in the arp cache. the other end of the link from the firewall is connected to a router which has no idea how to reach this "virtual address" - again because there is no entry in the arp cache I have tried to put a static arp entry into the firewall but this doesn't appear to work either. Should I be using a mac address form a physical interface or can I create a dummy mac for this - If the router can't see the ip address, then users will not be able to target this address - so that the firewall can NAT to the real outside address.I have tried routes to null0 on the router and static arp entries on both devices but the user just times when trying to connect to 10.2.7.11 (nat to 10.2.32.11)

I have a client in a workgroup environment. They are a small company with perhaps twenty systems. Their infrastructure consists of a Dell Switch, a Cisco ASA-5505 which hands out the DHCP and a router. And that's that. They have been using an external IP as their DNS Server to get out to the Web. However, they now want to add an internal Linux-based DNS server. In looking through the ASA-5505 today I noticed a field for DNS enteries. Is this where the IP for this new internal DNS Server (in the secondary DNS field) would go?If so, would it be necessary to reboot the ASA-5505 for this change to take effect?
I've attached a document showing how this network is designed. A client on a guest vlan behind the ASA, nat'd to one address on the public subnet, needs to be able to get out to the internet, and still come back in for specific services, such as OWA, via the IP which the mail server is nat'd to. The drawing is pretty explanatory. Do I simply need to create a NAT statement and ACL to allow that client out and back in, or do I need to set up hairpinning? I'm working with a Cisco ASA 5505 Version 8.4(4)3.
Note: The drawing has public IP's substituted with 1.1.1.x with final octet being accurate.
I have an asa5520 runing 9.0 that I want to setup for simple NAT, i,e 4.3.2.1/30 on the outside 192.168.1.1/24 on the inside with dynamic NAT outbound. The new IOS has thrown me for a loop.. I have everything working except the NAT. Any SDM screen shot of the Dynamic NAT entry? even if the IP's are different, I can figure it out...
Also, is there a way to make the unused ethernet interfaces gig0/2 and 0/3 into switch ports on the internal net? (or VLAN like you could do on the 5505)?
I am testing rogue on wire using 5508 WLC and , I have a dedicated AP configured as rogue detector and configured the switch port where the Rogue detector is connected as trunk. I have plugged in an autonomous AP with open authentication to the same switch so that it can act as a rogue. On the WLC, I can see that Autonomous AP as rogue on Wire. But along with that I am seeing another AP as rogue on wire, even though i have plugged in only one Autonomous AP to the switch.
We have a Windows XP machine on our network that is giving us a strange problem. We have it statically configured with an IP and a default gateway address which points to a router on our network. This is the same router that nearly all of our machines point to and none of the other machines have this issue. If we open up CMD and make a ping request from an outside server (public or interal servers on other subnets) we get a 'destination host unreachable' error. We can ping the ip address of the router that is assigned as the default gateway. We can circumvent this ip address by adding a static route ('route add' from CMD) directing all traffic on the network interface to the ip of the router. Once this is done we can ping and get a response from any server both internal and external. We also tried doing a tracert (without have the static route added) to an external site by IP address. The tracert does not even show a hop for the router so it seems as if the request is never making it past the interface on the XP machine. We simply get an error saying it is unable to find the host. Interesting though it does provide us with a domain name for the ip address. So somehow it is able to reslove DNS. (We have a local DNS server on the same subnet)
its been a while since I configured a Cisco firewall (PIX 6.0, SDM) - I've now been thrown in the deep end with a pair of 5525-X's (Latest Software) and I need to achieve the belowWebsense integration (Got this working)AAA Authentication for various outbound traffic routes.I'm using ASDM as I'm more comfortable with the GUI than CLI (I'm the other way round with switches!!!), I have AD Agent configured but the ASA isn't doing anything based on User Name but I have a few other things to try. What I'm trying to achieve now is ignoring certain user names from being matched to IP Addresses as I believe that this may have something to do with it.We use Sophos AV and each PC requires a Service Account to run Sophos under. Each update that Sophos attempts is seen as a login and that is the user attached to the IP Address of the machine. Within Websense, it can be told to ignore certain users for purposes of filtering and reporting etc.. but I dont seem to be able to do this with the AD Agent.
I have seen similar questions but with not a lot of answers for the ASA platform. As the title states, What procedures can I use to copy a pre-existing configured CISCO ASA 5520 to a brand new CISCO ASA 5520. I have found a URL that seems to answer some questions but not all. [URL]
The URL talks more about the PIX's than the ASA
Is there any documentation or shorter procedures for product specific on the 5520?
I have this 2x ASA5540 firewall and notice the it is configured with a standby ip. The firewall is run in Active/Passive mode. However, the standby ip of this firewall is not point to the secondary firewall and vice versa for the primary firewall. [code]
1) May i know how is this configuration valid in the first place? I have checked through the configuration. None of the configuration is related to this ip address.
2) Can we remove this standby ip address on both the firewall and correct to the correct primary and seconadary ip address in both firewall?
3) We tried to use this ip address but cannot be used ? Is it related to the configuration of the standby ip address.Do note that the ping to this ip address x.x.x.120 is unreachable.
i have cisco ASA5510 Firewall and configured one site to VPN . i want to configure another s2s vpn in the FW for another Site location.what to in the existing Firewall so that 2 site to site vpn can work.
I have 2 Cisco 5520 ASAs and was configured for Fail over. Unfortunately our Primary ASA went down and Secondary becomes Active and network admin made lots of changes on Secondary Active ASA. What is the best practice to rejoin Primary as standby or active without loosing the existing configuration on Secondary Active ?
The Cisco ASA5510 currently is configured with the following interfaces: inside, outside backup, and dmz.The backup interface routes to the internet via a DSL modem, it normally is not active. The outside interface routes to the internet via a T-1 line. The inside interface is our local LAN and the DMZ has our email server on it.I am wondering if there is a way to configure the ASA5510 so all internet traffic from the inside LAN goes only through the DSL modem and all the DMZ traffic only goes through the T-1 line. No inside traffic (inbound or outbound) should go through the T-1. No DMZ traffic (inbound or outbound) should go through the DSL line.
I can get the LAN to use the DSL line with no problem, but the DMZ to T-1 side causes reverse-path errors.I am not looking for redundancy or failover protection.
I made the unpleasant discovery recently that all my corporate laptops are using the wifi network even when sitting on their docks or otherwise connected to the wired network. Most of them have intel wifi cards, and the proset software allowed me to disable-by-policy wifi if a lan connection is detected. Some, however, have a more generic wifi card that doesn't have fancy management software, leaving me with the default windows stuff. In an attempt to correct the problem I
a) Put Local Area Connections at the top of the Adapters and Bindings list
b) manually assigned cost metrics to the connections in the tcp/ip settings
i want to Use Cisco AP 1142 in my network. Also new to the enterprise edition AP.I have configured AP WEB mode the SSID and able to connect without the Security Key. Also want to enable MAC Address filter on the AP. Any configuration details on web and CLI Mode.
We have a Cisco ASA 5580 and the outside interface has a public IP address and we noticed we can ping this address from the Internet. I did a packet capture on the outside interface and confirmed the pings and the IP address sending the pings. The 5580 does not have an access list allowing icmp so I'm not sure what is allowing the pings to this interface.
I have a Catalyst switch that is redistributing some static routes into OSPF. These are received on a Nexus 7K and appear in the database however the 7K does not add them to its routing table, one of the routes is ignored and not added. I haven't got a clue why this is happening.
The routes on the Catalyst are as follows with ID of 172.30.255.22:
ip route 172.24.59.0 255.255.255.0 10.56.7.46 ip route 192.168.168.0 255.255.255.0 10.56.7.62

we have a cat6509 with FWSM. We pass to the FWSM several VLANs. AllL3 is assigned to the FWs.In the Cat6500 log we have received this message %SVCLC-5-FWTRUNK: Firewalled VLANs configured on trunks ,when we configure 2 vlans in a trunk to an ESX server (these 2 VLANs are alreadyassigned to the FWSM).Idea is to share an interface to a ESX server with several VLANs, some of them are assigned also to FWSM.
I am attempting to allow traffic from one vlan to another.Vlan 1 is on Interface 0/2.vlan1Vlan 2 is on int 0/3.vlan2Each vlan can communicate inside it's own vlan, and the gateway on each responds to vlan specific clients My problem is that I am unable to communicate between the two vlans. Using the ASDM packet tracer tool, I find that packets are denied by the default rule (on the second Access List lookup). It appears as if the packet never reaches the other interface. The access rules are set up to allow traffic from one vlan to another (inbound), on both interfaces. Testing from either vlan to connect to the other fails. Below are the accee-rules for each vlans. Once I get basic connectivity working.

I have been asked to look at upgrading two 5520 ASA configured in a HA pair Active/Standby, from version 7.2(4) to version 8.3(1) to bring it in line with some other ASA firewalls in the organisation.
My question is can I simply upgrade straight from 7.2(4) to 8.3(1) or will I have to step the upgrade from 7.2(4) => 8.2(x) => 8.3(1)
Having read a few articles on the forums and the release notes I think I should be able to go from 7.2(4) => 8.3(1) .
The second part of my query is around the upgrade itself, having researched this a little there seems to be various views on how to go about upgrading a HA pair and I cannot find anything specific on the website.
The approach I am thinking of is simply as follows;
- upload images onto both firewalls in the HA pair - On the standby from the CLI clear configure boot
I have the following Setup, Two Cisco ASA 5520 needed to be configured in HA Active/Passive. The Firewalls includes also AIP module. Does the ASA 5520 will internally make the AIP modules also HA Active/Passive? Is there a document regarding the issue? Is there a seperate license for the AIP modules for HA scenario?
I just configured a RV016 and it's ignoring my VPN connections and its routes. When I run a tracert to my other site it returns all the hops between they.
