Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 - Microsoft SQL Server And Anyconnect Remote Client VPN
Oct 29, 2012
I ve configures an asa 5505 for remote vpn with anyconnect. it works just fíne - from remote i can ping the Clients and Server inside, i can do RDP or Connect via SSH to any machine, map some volumes local and so on but: I can not connect microsoft sql server. It uses port 1433 for the first connect and establishes then a dynamic connection. So i am a Newbie - what rules or configs do i miss?
when it comes to IOS based SSL VPN setup, so have run into an issue which I can't seem to find an answer for.
What i'm after is a way to restrict access to an AnyConnect authenticated and connected client, on a specific profile, to a list of specific websites (all on the Intranet). Everything else must be blocked.
On the IOS device, I had it fudged to pretty much retstrict access to a certain IP and port, and used a mod rewrite in Apache to re-write a URL from that IP to the host the site actually resided on. It's cludged together and working, but it's not ideal (and it's not going to allow for scaling up to what I need).
I can find plenty of references here and on the net to using regex to create block lists based on a global policy to disallow specific URLS, but I need the inverse of that, and, only applied to a specific policy group.
Is this possible on an ASA5505? Is it possible on *any* ASA?
I have some users from another company who are visiting my company. The use outlook to access their mail. I think it is via RPC over https (ssl). When there are on my network they are unable to send messages but when the connect to an ISP directly they are able to send. I have a cisco 2821 as my internet router and an ASA5505 (8.0.5...i downgraded it from 8.2.3) as my firewall. I have not blocked anything from going out. Of note is that when other users use window live configured for gmail....which uses tls they are unable to send emails with atachements. Regular emails go though no problem. Hotmail can send atachments without a problem (there is no encrytion there). I have narrowed the issue down to how the firewall treats esmtp or tls traffic passing though it. I have already diabled inspect esmtp on the firewall.
I'm trying to configure 1700 K9 router to act as PPTP client and connect to Microsoft VPN server (in order to enable all clients on LAN to seamlessly access host on remote location). [URL]
I'm using GMS3 to test everything in lab environment. I managed to connect to Microsoft VPN server but the connection drops immediately. Below is debug info from router R1 (router R2 just simulates host on LAN) and configurations for both routers. The only clue I got from debug is that immediately before closing connection there's a message "CCP: Failed to negotiate with peer"...
R1#sh debug PPP: PPP detailed event debugging is on MPPE Packet Details debugging is on
We just set up the AnyConnect SSL vpn on our ASA. I am able to establish a connection fine using the Cisco AnyConnect client. I would like to use the native Windows VPN client though if possible. What configuration changes on either the firewall or the client I would need to make for this to happen?
I've been trying to set up a SSL VPN connection for remote conenctivitiy with AnyConnect Client. I've configured virtually everything necessary, I can connect to the VPN page, download the Client, establish connectivity, Get an internal-IP address. But I can't ping any internal (and of course external IP addresses)
I have set up an Any connect VPN client profile in ASA 5200. So, before creating an Any connect profile, i have uploaded the Any connect client image into flash (.pkg).It was successfully uploaded. While creating the profile, i have choosen the AAA server that i created (here its a RADIUS Server), specified the IP pool (192.168.2.x to 192.168.2.x),and assigned a group policy that i created.
So, in the client side i have installed the Any Connect VPN client in Win XP (version compatible with XP, same as the one that was uploaded into flash).Entered the IP of ASA in the "connect to" field of Any connect client. So, in the group field, it has auto detected the any connect profile which was created in ASA and i entered username and password and clicked on connect. It has authenticated the user credentials and has displayed the banner present in the group policy.
I accepted the banner, it displayed the security alert, clicked on OK on the alert, immediately after this it has thrown me a warning "VPN establishment capability from a remote desktop is disabled. A VPN coonection will not be established.".
When i click OK on the warning, it has thrown me another warning "Any connect wasn't able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway. Please try connecting again".
When i searched for this warning, i got a work around which says "you will have to modify the "AnyConnectProfile.tmpl file", which can be found on the machine where the client was installed (its an xml file). You need to change the setting of "'WindowsVPNEstablishment' from "LocalUsersOnly" to "AllowRemoteUsers".Since i installed the any connect client in XP, i found this xml file in
"C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsApplicationData CiscoCisco AnyConnect VPN Clientpreferences.xml" .
So, is this the same xml file where the change needs to be done? Because, i haven't found the setting "WindowsVPNEstablishment" in this xml file.
On both sites we have a ASA5505(Base license) to terminate the tunnel. On Site B we also got a remote access vpn to which we can connect using the vpn client. The lan2lan tunnel works fine and so the remote access vpn.Now i want to connect to Site A using my vpn client connected to Site B. [code] There are no vpn-filters or other special policys in place..If tried to ping from my vpn client to Site A while i was debugging ipsec 255 on site B: the asa matched the l2l-tunnel for traffic sourced from 192.168.25.x to 192.168.13.x but when im doing a show crypto ipsec sa detail there are no packets getting encrypted..so of course no packets reaching my asa on site a.
I need to configure our ASA5505 firewall for remote access to our network using EasyVPN software installed on a laptop. That laptop will be connected in the different places, using DSL or 3G toggle or Public Wi-Fi. For some people it's very easy, but I don't have any experience with firewalls.
The ASA has one public IP on its outside interface and using PAT to the internet. It only has two interfaces, inside and outside using vlan. I created a IPSec VPN through CLI. My goal is for the remote client to browse the Internet throught tunnel.
Q1: Is it possible?
Q2: The remote side gets connected and has IP from the pool, with is part of inside network. But it cannot ping anything, including the gateway, which is the inside interface. I debug it, it shows the ASA receives the ping packages, but it doesnt send anything back to the client.
We have a Cisco secure VPN site to site tunnel between the 2 locations.Which ports are need to open on tunnel so that users can successfully use OCS over the site to site VPN tunnel. All the users are havning the main brach AD account.Using Wireshark captured the packets, found only port TCP 5060, after allowing this port over tunnel I can see the authentication window. The user authentication fails. Already port 3389, 80, 443 are allowed. The main requirement is to only have the Chat, Group Chat and file transfer. Not require AV traffic.OCS is using TCP. no TLS is configured.
I have a VPN setup thru a Cisco 5520, Windows clients connect just find and the end users configure there browser to use our internal proxy servers. Users with the MAC OS X Anyconnect client can connect, they configure their Mac to use our proxy server, but the broswers will not work, clients can reach networks and resources behind the VPN gateway and have access to the Proxy(Tried a telnet to that hostname/port). I am running ASA 8.3(2), Anyconnect(OS X) 3.1.01065.
Profile in atthach-file. After this profile is uploaded to client Optimal Gateway Selection doesn't work propertly: When 'vpn1.mydomain.com/mygroup' (it best TTL server) is unreachable, then OGS try to be connected to other servers, but without group-url, for example 'vpn2.mydomain.com' (instead of 'vpn2.mydomain.com/mygroup')
I have several locations with time clocks (a Kronos application) on a small home network with outgoing traffic wide open.I have a server in my office behind an ASA5505 router/firewall, also with outging traffic wide open. I have tried taking the device off of the remote network and giving the it a public, static ip address so it is actually on the internet, yet the server cannot see the device, but it can ping it. I was advised to put the device on the remote private network and set up a virtual server using port 8080 at the remote location. The server is still unable to see the device. I also set up a virtual server for VNC. When I am on my server on my work network behind the ASA5505, I can start my VNC viewer and attach to the device at the remote site using the IP of the router (apparently the device has a build in VNC server).
I have also tried to NAT my server to a public IP, I have set up incoming and outgoing rules on the firewalls at both ends.this should be a fairly straight forward connection.
We have a Cisco ASA5510 configured to work with Microsoft Radius Server. VPN authorization and authentication is working well with L2TP over IPSec, and users are authenticating with MSChapV2 like we want them to.
Now we are trying to setup Anyconnnect to do the same. How do we tell AnyConnect to use MSChap-V2 versus PAP? using ADSM? I think I know how to do the Microsoft Part of it, but I don't know where to go in ADSM to configure this.
I was wondering if it is needed to license the IPsec VPN clients in the ASA5500 firewalls...I know that you have license the SSL VPN peers (AnyConnect). I am almost sure that for the IPsec you don't have to.
We have ASA5510 with version 7.x and asdm 5.X, i upgraded it to 8.3 and asdm 6.2, and i got vpn peers 250 and 2 ssl.when i try to connect through client software , i can see in the logs UDP 500 port is created as shown below.Mar 31 2011 23:54:40 302015 94.97.180.0 57013 x.x.x.x 500 Built inbound UDP connection 56694 for outside:94.97.180.0/57013 (94.97.180.0/57013) to identity:x.x.x.x/500 (x.x.x.x/500) no other things are going on , and i get error as shown below.
Secure VPN Connection terminated Locally by the client Reason 412: Remote peer is no longer Responding Connection terminated on.
i am suspecting it is VPN-3DES-AES activation key issue.when i go to Remote Access VPN ---Advanced---SSL Seetings--From Left Encryption Panel Available Algorithems i have DES-SHA1 when i try to drag it tto Right panel of Active algorithems it gives me error *** below [ERROR] sl encryption rc4-sha1 des-sha1 The 3DES/AES algorithms require a VPN-3DES-AES activation key and currently in right panel of Active Algorithms i have only RC4-SHA1,
We have an internal DNS server that all internal hosts do lookups to .. these requests are forwarded onto open dns for anything the dns server isnt authoritative for.. My question is we have purchased the botnet filter and this requires the asa5505 dns client to be active on at least one interface .. Should i point the asa dns to an external IP such as 8.8.8.8 and apply DNS enabled on interface outside ( am using asdm) I don't want the ASA to control DNS for our internal clients we already have a internal server for this, i DO want the asa5505 to check dns packets against its botnet filter, whilst still using open dns for forwarding.
We have 2 ASA 5510's running in a Active/Standby configuration. It appears that most of the changes we make on the active unit are replicated to the standby unit. However, there are 3 AnyConnect Client Profiles on the active unit and none of them show up on the standby, the standby has no AnyConnect Profiles. We also have 1 OnConnect script on the active unit and it does not appear on the standby unit either.
I was under the assumption that all config items on the active unit would replicate to the standby. Is this not correct? Do I need to do something extra to get everything replicated? Are there other items that do not replicate?
So, I've set up Anyconnect client access to an ASA-5510.
I've got a handful of interfaces, which contain hosts that should be accesible to anyconnect clients. I'm unable to reach addresses on a specific network, due to what packet-tracer claims is an implicit deny, though I'm unsure where to apply an access-list in this case.

I am trying to configure RemoteDesktop on a home lab ASA5505 with IOS 8.4.1 and no matter what I tried, I am unable to remote into a local server behind the firewall. I've searched online and found several threads with solutions online including here at Cisco Support Community forum and have tried them all, but have no success. I'm sure it may be something very simple that I've missed.
I have setup a Remote access VPN on my ASA5505 firewall through the ASDM wizard.I can successfully connect with the Cisco VPN client. My firewall also shows me the VPN session and shows incoming Rx packets. However, Tx packets remain 0, so no traffic is going out. My ASA5505 is configured as router on a stick with 25 different VLAN's. I want to restrict traffic to one specific VLAN using a crypto map. When I issue a ping -t command on my connected Windows box, the firewall log shows me the following message:
"This message indicates that the IPSec fast path processed a packet that triggered IKE, but IKE's policy lookup failed. This error could be timing related. The ACLs that triggered IKE might have been deleted before IKE processed the initiation request. This problem will most likely correct itself." [code] I have really no idea what's going on. I have setup a Remote access VPN countless times but this time it shows me the error as described above.
ASA 5505 running 8.2 with ASDM 6.2. VPN Client Version 5.0.05.0290
I've installed both the anyconnect and ipsec VPN clients and successfully connected for remote VPN server access; however, the client shows no packets being returned. Thinking that I misconfigured, I reset to the factory default and began again. Now I only have the ipsec vpn configured and I have exactly the same symptoms. I followed the directions for configuring the ipsec vpn in Document 68795 and rechecked my configuration and I don't see what I've done wrong. Given that I can connect to the internet from the inside network, and I can connect to the VPN from outside the network (and the ASDM Monitor shows an active connection with nothing sent to the client) I have to believe it is either a route or an access rule preventing communication but I can't quite figure out where (and I've tried static routes back to the ISP and a wide variety of access rules before flushing everything to start over).
I have the below configuration for a cisco asa 5505. There is a ADSL router in front of the ASA which has a static IP. I set up a remote-access VPN (using the wizard), but I cannot connect to the ASA firewall as the attached VPN client log shows. My only concern is that there might be something missing, ie a static route that goes to the inside interface. [code]
I am configuring remote access vpn on ASA5505.Everything is working fine so far, except when the client got connected, it still used the local DNS server provided by the ISP. How do I force the client to use the DNS server configured on ASA?
I have a problem with mi telephony server. My network topology is very simple. I have an ASA5505 connected to Internet throught an ISP. Behind ASA5505 I have a ToIP Server that operate well inside LAN network. However, when I try to register two or more extensions (Softphones) from Internet, Softphones some times it registers sucessfully, but some times doesn´t work.
The other hand, when softphones outside from LAN get register sucessfully in Asterisk server, is not possible that one of this calling the other one, and Asterisk server detects them as "UNREACHABLE". I don´t know if the problem are all commands of traffic inspect or if the problem is referenced to a particular UC proxy License.
I have a network with 3 sites that are on different subnets. Each site has an ASA Right now, I am only able to connect to the ASA that is connected to the subnet I am connected to.I want to be able to connect to the ASA that are on the remote subnets on the address of the inside interface. The sites are connected all together by site-to-site VPN.Is there any way I can achieve that without opening the outside interface directly on the Internet?
I installed a CISCO ASA5505 with 50 user license to my network as the gateway firewall. So ASA is acting as the gaeway router which is connected to a fibre circuit and also it gives DHCP to the network. The strange thing is that except for two computers rest does not have internet. I also have an asterisk phone system which works fine..
I tried everything.... static IP's DHCP, DNS nothing worked. But strange enough two computers works fine and have internet.. but are no special computers. One is Win XP and the other one is Win7. When I troubleshoot the problem in win 7 on one of the computers it says
"The remote device or resource won't accept the connection"
I am trying to access and ping the inside interface of a ASA5505 from a remote network. From the remote network, I am able to access anything on the local network, but the ASA5505 inside interface. The 2 networks linked by a fiber link which have a transport network on another interface. From the remote network, I am able to ping the transport network interface IP, but I would like to be able to ping the inside interface IP. When I do a packet tracer, I get a deny from an implicit rule. How can I achieve that?
Here are the subnets involved and the ASA5505 config.
Remote network : 10.10.2.0/24 Local network : 10.10.1.0/24 Transport network : 10.10.99.0/24
