Cisco VPN :: ASA5505 - Remote Client To Browse Internet Through Tunnel?
May 28, 2011
inside network----ASA5505========internet===========Remote VPN client.
The ASA has one public IP on its outside interface and using PAT to the internet. It only has two interfaces, inside and outside using vlan. I created a IPSec VPN through CLI. My goal is for the remote client to browse the Internet throught tunnel.
Q1: Is it possible?
Q2: The remote side gets connected and has IP from the pool, with is part of inside network. But it cannot ping anything, including the gateway, which is the inside interface. I debug it, it shows the ASA receives the ping packages, but it doesnt send anything back to the client.

We have two sites connect with an IPSec L2L VPN.
-Site A: 192.168.13.0/24
-Site B: 192.168.2.0/24
On both sites we have a ASA5505(Base license) to terminate the tunnel. On Site B we also got a remote access vpn to which we can connect using the vpn client. The lan2lan tunnel works fine and so the remote access vpn.Now i want to connect to Site A using my vpn client connected to Site B. [code] There are no vpn-filters or other special policys in place..If tried to ping from my vpn client to Site A while i was debugging ipsec 255 on site B: the asa matched the l2l-tunnel for traffic sourced from 192.168.25.x to 192.168.13.x but when im doing a show crypto ipsec sa detail there are no packets getting encrypted..so of course no packets reaching my asa on site a.

I need to configure our ASA5505 firewall for remote access to our network using EasyVPN software installed on a laptop. That laptop will be connected in the different places, using DSL or 3G toggle or Public Wi-Fi. For some people it's very easy, but I don't have any experience with firewalls.

I have configured ASA 5505 for remote access VPN to allow remote user to connect to the officce LAN from remote locations. VPN working fine, users can access offce LAN and sahred resource etc but once they connected to VPN, they can not browse the internet ? Internet browsing stop working as soon as their VPN client connnect with ASA 5505 t, once they are disconnected from the VPN , again they can browse the internet.
Does ASA 5505 blocks the internet browsing for VPN users ? Is there anything else I need to congfure to make sure VPN users can browse internet? Do I need to configure Split Tunnleing , NATing or routing for the VPN users?

we use the Cisco VPN-Client to connect to our CISCO1921 Router and want to go out again on the same interface to the internet. We configured the connection with the IOS scurity package, have no split tunneling - so the client is forced with it's default gateway to our router - we also have pushed our local dns-server to the client and he gets dns results. Now I think we have to got out with some kind of NAT, because our client has a private IP from the IPSec Client pool. At the moment we have no NAT inside/outside, bacause we only use official IP addres in- and ouside (data-room usage).
- Is it possible to get the NAT function going in and out on the same interface with crypto_map IPSec user comming in and going out to the internet ?
- Is it more secure to configure this with vrf ?
- Has some a link to example configurations for this ?

How can I configure an ASA 5505 NEM client to allow access to the Internet when the tunnel to the headend is down? I am planning on deploying back to back ASA 5505s in network extension mode but I do not want to block Internet access on the client side if the tunnel to the server should go down.

I have setup a site-to-site VPN tunnel between 2 sites using CISCO rv120w.Everything works fine; any PC on one site can access all systems on the other site and vice-versa.The issue I have is when I start a VPN connection another site on Internet using IPSecuritas.I can initiate a VPN to site 1 and site 2; but when connected, I can only access servers that are located into the same site I'm connected to; I cannot ping the remote site. The Range of IP addresses on the internet during my tests is 192.168.11.0 (I 'm using a Mac)
-Systems with IP 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.10.1 are bridges
-Systems with IP 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.10.2 are CISCO rv120w

I have successfully setup the AnyConnect VPN (connecting to our ASA5510) and have split tunneling configured. My remote users can access inside LAN servers as well as the Internet from their remote location. What I would like to know is is it possible to change the split tunnel and not allow access to the Internet from the remote location but force the remote client to go through the VPN and out our internal edge firewall to the Internet? Basically I need my remote clients to access the Internet but I would like for their Internet traffic to go through the VPN and out our edge firewall. This will allow the same security as if they were sitting in the office.

Is it possible to create like a bridge over the VPN tunnel so it extens the LAN ?

We have a HUB ASA5505 SEC+ with a few other ASA's connected to it via L2L VPN. We have 1 active Static L2L, 1 Active Dynamic L2L, and I'm currently trying to add a Second Static L2L Tunnel.I verified that each WAN Interface can ping each other, and both devices have full internet connectivity. There is no double nat or content filtering going on either. I did notice that my Cisco Remote Access VPN Client won't connect properly through the ASA despite full internet connectivity, but when I connect directly to the modem I was able to connect properly. So apparently the ISP isn't blocking IPSEC traffic AFAIK.
Static2 is currently using a Temporary TAC License since our license is currently awaiting arrival, but a show version output shows that all VPN/3des features are enabled. [code]

I have set up an ipsec tunnel between a Cisco ASA 5505 and a Fortigate 80c. The tunnel is set up as I execute pings from inside behind ASA to inside behind FG, however I cannot get connectivity to hosts behind the Fortigate (traffic is allowed through policies configured on the FG). What I noticed in packet tracer is that traffic is dropped at the step 'Vpn lookup' To troubleshoot I have configured a test ('fake') vpn connection through the vpn wizard and get the same result in packet tracer. I run 8.4 software on the ASA and this is part of the relevant config.

Got a problem routing trafic to my L2L tunnel...
Got an ASA5505 Sec+ with ip 10.45.10.1 on inside interface. Firmware 8.3(1). Got another Cisco router (From my ISP) with ip 10.45.10.254 - This one creates an L2L tunnel - To the 10.45.20.0/24 net.
On the 5505 ive got "route inside 10.45.20.0 255.255.255.0 10.45.10.254 1", and trafic is being directed to 10.45.10.254 as it should.
I know cause I can ping everything one the 10.45.20.0/24 net - But thats it... Cant RDP, connect to fileshare... Nothing.
When i test a PC and set it to gateway 10.45.10.254 I can access everything on the remote network. Do I need some NAT command or an access-list? I've setup AnyConnect VPN on the ASA and I can connect to both networks without any problems.

I'm having trouble configuring an ASA5505 on version 8.31 code for an IPSec tunnel. I've done this multiple times on 8.2.5 but can't seem to get my tunnel to even attempt to come up on this ASA. Not sure if it's relevent or not, but this remote ASA has never been used for another VPN tunnel before. When I attempt to ping a host on the other side of my tunnel, I just see the following: 8108# sho crypto isa sa
There are no isakmp sas
My local network is 10.1.1.X/24 and my remote peer network contains 66.37.227.X/24. I've been working on this for the better part of the day and would love to get it resolved.

I have a number of sites in China, they have decent inter-country connectivity but poor connectivity when going overseas.
We have a single site in China witha dedicated 1:1 leased line that has good conectivity both inside and outside of China.
All the sites in China have ASA5505 firewalls
One of our Citrix farms is hosted in the UK and although the main site with the leased line is fine accessing the farm the other sites are not. I would like to try and tunnel just the citrix connectivity via a VPN to the China head office then use their connection to get out to the farm.
how to tunnel all traffic but not just specific traffic over the VPN.

Just bought myself an ASA5505 to replace a PIX 501, and having transferred over most of the previous config I've managed to get the two IPSEC VPN tunnels working as before.
Unfortunately when I try and SSH to the ASA the connection just resets instantly even when the tunnel is up. It seems as if the ASA is actively refusing the connection, though the log doesn't state this. I had always presumed that traffic over an established IPSEC tunnel was implicitly trusted and not subject to usual access-list rules.
I am unable to SSH to the ASA from the 10.0.0.x range, but I can SSH to a machine on 10.27.0.4 (so I know the tunnel is up and working)
Config (minus irrelevant sensitive information) is attached for reference.
Also - though I'm not sure how relevant it is given the tunnels appear to work - when I enter the line "crypto map meepnet-map interface outside" in config mode the ASA reports "WARNING: The crypto map entry is incomplete!" even though I have supplied the access-list, peer and transform-set variables.

We have now added a 2nd location but the partner wouldnt allow a 2nd VPN tunnel so the decision was made to give the new location a ASA5505 to tunnel thru the main office to access the resources at the partners site.Using ASDM i believe i was able to setup the tunnel to the main office but there is no resource there to use. Now i'm stuck and i do not know what to do to get to the partner site

Currently, I have in a number of remote sites (with dynamic public address) a C800.On this Cisco, I have a config for initiating an agressive-mode tunnel to a central ASA.relevant part of the config:
---
crypto isakmp policy 10
encr aes
authentication pre-share
group 2
!
crypto isakmp peer address 1.2.3.4
[code].....
Now I need to replace these C800 by ASA5505. But I don't know how to replace the "crypto isakmp peer address" command in ASA.The C800 transmits both the password (abcdefg in my example) and the fqdn (remotesite1 in the example). how to configure the ASA to build the tunnel the way the C800 did?

I have an ASA 5505 with Base license and a vpn client. The scenario is like this: LAN -- ASA 5505 -- ISP DSL Router---( Internet ) -- Home DSL Router --- LAN -- VPN CLient, The ISP DSL Router gets a public IP address and the ASA gets a private IP address (ISP DSL router doing NAT) and I cant reach the internet with no problem from the LAN´s ASA side but I cant make the vpn tunnel connection from the LAN´s Home side so I told the provider to bridge the ISP DSL Router, to the ASA so the ASA could get the public IP but in order to do that the provider told me to do MAC clonning on the ASA 5505 which I did putting the ISP DSL Router MAC on the ASA. Now the ASA gets the public IP on the outside vlan by DHCP but when I try to make the VPN tunnel I just cannt. I can reach the public IP by ping on the ASA and I can see the pings coming in using debug but I just cant make the vpn client work.

Completly new to Cisco ASA and need to get this working ASAP.ASA 5505 8.4(1) is the secondary FW and I need for it to allow everything going out and block everything coming in but for the VPN clients. Since a Cisco moron, I used the ASDM and it's wizards to make this work, which might explain my situation.
[code]....
My Cisco VPN Client connects to the ASA and receives 10.10.101.1 IP address, but I get no connectivity to the ASA or any other 192.168.101.x server or service (tried telnet, RDP, ping, etc.)

I did some searching and the answers said it was supposedly possible but no info on how to do it. I am wondering if it is possible to configure a Cisco ASA 5505/10/20 to be a client to an existing (in this case) cisco client vpn. The reasons why are complicated (and imo irrelevant) but basically I need to be able to make a small network that can be on this vpn rather than individual machines. The client vpn is a basic IPSec over UDP Cisco VPN to an ASA5505.So how would I configure another ASA to connect to this like its a client?

I have been searching for days trying to find out what could be wrong with the configuration of an ASA5505 running Firmware version 7.2(2). I am trying to set up a hairpin connection between my laptop on the VPN tunnel (192.168.25.12) to access the server across the L2L VPN (192.168.1.10) on the diagram below.
The remote VPN function is working, as I can RDP to the 192.168.25.10 server from my laptop, and the L2L VPN is working since I can RDP from server 192.168.25.10 to server 192.168.1.10. I am trying specifically to run RDP from my laptop without having to log into the .25 network.
I have tried multiple changes to my NAT tables and my ACL configurations to no avail.[code]

I installed on 2 different PCs (Win7 64-bit) the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07 with the same VPN profile for 2 different users. We use an ASA5505 (8.0(5) sec plus license) as the VPN end point for the clients. The VPN Clients can connect simultaneously to the ASA, they receive the split tunnel infos but only ONE client can ping the internal network ip range. The other one has no access to the internal resources! When they separately try to connect, there is no problem. Each of them can reach the internal net.On other 2 PCs (Win 7 32-bit) the clients have no problem reaching the internal net (simultaneously connect).

Does CISCO have any free vpn clients for Windows?I tried to download a client from the CISCO downloads area, but it's for some kind of purchase agreement. I would have thought that the vpn client was free to download given my ASA comes with two free vpn licenses.

when it comes to IOS based SSL VPN setup, so have run into an issue which I can't seem to find an answer for.
What i'm after is a way to restrict access to an AnyConnect authenticated and connected client, on a specific profile, to a list of specific websites (all on the Intranet). Everything else must be blocked.
On the IOS device, I had it fudged to pretty much retstrict access to a certain IP and port, and used a mod rewrite in Apache to re-write a URL from that IP to the host the site actually resided on. It's cludged together and working, but it's not ideal (and it's not going to allow for scaling up to what I need).
I can find plenty of references here and on the net to using regex to create block lists based on a global policy to disallow specific URLS, but I need the inverse of that, and, only applied to a specific policy group.
Is this possible on an ASA5505? Is it possible on *any* ASA?

I use VPN Client 5.0.06.0110 to connect my home computer to my office, which has an ASA5505. If my immediate network connection to the PC client is lost while the VPN is active, I get a BSOD. There's no problem if my DSL drops or a cable beyond my router is unplugged. It only (and always) fails if the network cable to the PC running the VPN Client is diconnected (or if my router loses power) while the link is connected.

I take the same PCF file and put it on a Windows 7 machine client version 5.0.07.0440 and the tunnel comes up. But I'm unable to ping my 10.1.1.2 server.
Does something in the pcf file need to change for this version of the client?

We currently have a few 5505s installed at client sites which are connected via s2s ipsec VPN to our datacenter's 5510. We are using Nagios to monitor the local data center and remote client infrastructure (over the VPNs) which has been working well.
We would like to also monitor the remote 5505s using SNMP over the s2s tunnels but it doesn't seem to be working, the connection is timing out. We've configured the remote 5505s with the same snmp statement we used on the 5510 (snmp-server host inside <remote datacenter IP> poll community ***** version 2c) yet the Nagios SNMP check cannot connect to the remote 5505s. We've also tried the command using 'outside' without any luck, not sure how to get SNMP to route over the VPN.
