Cisco Firewall :: Pix 515e V 6.3 Throughput Speed To Time Warner?
Aug 23, 2011
I have a Cisco PIx firewall that is connected to a cable modem with Time warner cable. I am supposed to have 35 down and 5 up for my speed on that modem. When I bypass the firewall and connect directly to the cable modem, I get download speeds in excess of 30 and upload speeds of about 5. However, when I connect via my workstation, which goes through the PIX, I am lucky to get speeds in the 1.2 for a download and 2-3.5 for the upload. I am using a laptop to test. We have gigabyte Cat5e cabling and gigabyte switches.
Below are statements from the config. The interface lines are per below:
interface ethernet0 100full
interface ethernet1 100full
interface ethernet2 auto shutdown
MTU outside 1500
How can i adjust this so I can make use of the 30 speed of the modem?

we just switched over to time warner. We need the IP address to set up our surveillance cameras. Is there any way to get that online?

my timer warner router connect to a swith (linksys), and the swith connect to 2 computer. When i restart one of the computer, the internet don't work, but the networking is working, i need to reset the modem by unplug and unplug the line of one computer (so only one computer is hook up to swith and then to the router).... after i got the internet connection from that computer, then i can hook up another computer successfully. But after I reboot one computer, the internet connection won't work again

I am trying to set up a d-link router with a modem provided by time warner cable. I've powered down, reset the router, and I've put it on dynamic settings (sorry if that's incorrect terminology... not a comp. buff). I can't get my wireless to connect to internet.

have a PIC 515e connected to two ISPs via 2 interfaces. ISP1 is a 3.5Mbps aDSL line, and ISP2 is a 30Mbps business cable. I've confirmed the speeds by connecting the cabled directly into a laptop and using wget to download very large files from known-fast sites.
For admin reasons, I need to access two specific subnets using the slower ISP1. The rest of internet traffic should go to the much faster ISP2.
So I configure ISP2 as the default gateway, static routes for the two subnets to ISP1, set up NAT (PAT) and it all works like a charm. I've confirmed that ISP1 is used for only the two subnets, and ISP2 for everything else. CAPTUREs on the pix also confirm this. So far, it all works great.
But for reasons I don't understand, my max. download speed is 3.5 Mbps (the slow DSL). Using various speed tests and wget, I simply cannot get a download speed faster than my 3.5 Mbps DSL line.
Here is my config:
interface ethernet0 100full
interface ethernet1 100full
interface ethernet2 100full

I have a 2 computer connected to the WRT54GS which is connected to the RCA DCM 425. It was initially fine, however now the internet is disconnecting at an absurd rate, at least 3 within an hr, sometimes more, and the only way it would reestablish connection is by unplugging and replugging.I have called time warner's customer support and they said it was because of the router. I have searched through various threads and saw and some had similar problems, but they were related to wireless instead of wired ( my case) so is there some settings i can change within the linksys to minimize the amount of disconnections? Becaused based on the log from the RCA,it seems that they are not reading each other too well. Are there any other routers that may establish a connection better than the GS?

Without my N 450 router hooked up I am getting hardwired speeds of 50/5 mb, but with N 450 hardwired into my PC the speeds drop to 20/5 mb. I have checked DHCP and I am not getting piggy backed. Is it a bottlekneck, misconfigured or just not compatible with Time Warner?

Is it possible for Time Warner Cable to use a pre-existing cable line which is going into my cable box to hook up a modem so I can have Internet? I've got a modem in another room but I don't want a cable running down my hallway for 30 feet.

I'd like to see some REAL LIFE comparisons of ASA firewall throughput (a bit like this one for ISR G2 Routers - [URL].
The reason I ask is that I recently upgraded a firewall from an ASA5505 to an ASA5520 on a small network where the only outside connectivity was a single 10meg Internet circuit with an IPSEC VPN (not landed on the firewall but on a router) to another site.
When I swapped out the firewall the users noticed a big improvement. The firewall is not doing anything out of the ordinary - no IPS or VPN, just standard state full inspection.

Ive got a problem with passing traffic through a Cisco 515e firewall.im trying to telnet to devices on the inside net, 172.16.x.x fom an outside net 10.x.x.x? ive configured a group called infrastructure and added the 10.x.x.x addresses.ive configured acl 101 inbound on the outside interface:
access-list 101 permit tcp object-group INFRASTRUCTURE any eq telnet
theres a route to the inside net:
inside 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 172.16.163.1
and theres a translation:
static (inside,outside) 10.4.4.34 10.4.4.34 netmask 255.255.255.255
when i try and connect, using a packet capture I can see traffic from 10.4.4.34 to the inside device 172.x.x.x on the inside interface but i cant see the traffic leave the outside interface ive used the same group infrastructure group before to connect to VM machines on the 172.x.x.x net on RDP and this wrks ok. access-list 101 permit tcp object-group INFRASTRUCTURE object-group VMs eq 3389

I have the following network.2 WAN links termination on my PIX 515e and all internal users connected to third interface.
Problem I am facing is that I have assign manual IP to users with some have full access to Internet while others have limited.
The users are changing their IP address while others are offline and I want to restrict them.
The only way I can think off is by binding IP to MAC as e.g ( Active wall software). But can it be done on PIX 515e and if so how?

I have a Cisco 881 (without wifi model) connected to a 100Mb unmanaged switch and a cable modem with a 120Mb down, 10Mb up connection. When I connect the modem directly to my laptop, I can reach the 120Mb/s down and 10Mb/s upload speed. When I connect the modem to the 881, the max download is about 30Mb/s. Upstream 10Mb is no problem. I've been trying to change the duplex and speed settings on the FastEthernet4 interface, but this has only a worsening effect. I should be able to get about 100Mb/s (since switch is only 100) right?

The issue was about Cisco ASA5510 Sec Plus.2 Interfaces, LAN and DMZ.Both 1000 FD, no interface errors like CRC or something similar. If I start a data transfer (like FTP) or a data stream test (like Netperf), from DMZ to INSIDE I get a theoughput. If I start the same from INSIDE to DMZ (same hosts), i get a troughput almost ten times slower. If i do the same using netperf in UDP (not TCP) I get the same in both directions.

Do some have some realistic performance numbers for a ASA 5505 on a mixed setup with local internet breakout and site to site vpn ( and don't tell me 150 mbps 3des throughput on a 100 mbps ethernet) - what can be expected in a live environment where we f.ex feed it with a 100 mbps internet connection - with a site to site vpn with f.ex 20 office workers running office on a remote terminalserver and mixed local internet breakout.

I am using my normal Ethernet cable that I used on my old PC at the exact same location / circumstances, but when I plug the cable in my new PC, my download speed peaks at 81.5 kb/s and my upload speed peaks at 10 kb/s. Now when I put it back in my old pc I get 3mb/s download speed and 0.5 mb/s upload speed. I don't quite understand what the problem is. Do I need to update drivers/BIOS? I can't find any updates. This is a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit with barely any programs installed as of yet. I have reinstalled Windows 7 aswell, to no avail.

I'm having issues with my download speed lately and I need to know whether it's my router that's causing the problem or my ISP.When I leave the router on for a couple of days, without rebooting it, my download speed degrades to about 40-50% of what it usually is and when I reboot it the speed is back to normal. It's a 150Mbps Wireless N router, model SBN WR11N R2. I have no idea what brand it is, my ISP gave it to me a few years ago. Seems to be running some custom firmware installed by the ISP.
