Cisco Infrastructure :: Etherchannel Between Two 2950 Switches

Dec 7, 2011

I have a etherchannel defined between 2 L2 switches using LACP as shown below. The etherchannel works fine, however when I hard code speed/duplex on both ends the etherchannel fails. What is causing this behaviour?

SW02:
interface Port-channel5
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
switchport mode trunk

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 - Etherchannel Doesn't Go Up

Jun 11, 2012

I have a problem with an etherchannel between a cisco 2950 and a couple of catalyst 4506. The  cisco 2950 is connect via an etherchannel to the catalyst 4506A. The  channel consist of two port on both side and is in trunk mode, encapsulation dot1q.Now i have the necessity to connect the 2950 to the other catalyst, 4506B. So,  i copy the same configuration on the 4506B, but when I unplug the two  rj45 cables from the catalyst 4506A to plug them in the 4506B the  etherchannel doesn't go up in any way.

Cisco Infrastructure :: 2950 - What Replaced Port Network Command

Oct 4, 2005

I used to be able to set an uplink port with the interface command "port network" so that it would not learn all the mac addresses that are being flooded down to the switch.  It does not seem to be there on the 2950's or 35XX switches.

Where did it go and what is replacing it? Interface is a Trunk port as well.

If I have two stackable switches one switch uplinks to one 6509 core switch and the other connection uplinks to another 6509 core switch, and also the other stackable switch does not connect to the core switches. Because I am using hsrp and also we are not using vss then one uplink to the core is not in used only ones is so then how does creating an etherchannel between does two uplinks to both core switches benefit me in anyway such as more bandwith and using both uplinks at the same time or I'm I wrong?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960 - Simple EtherChannel To Work Between 2 Switches

Jul 29, 2012

For a simple ether channel to work between 2 switches I have configured ports 1 and 2 on both cisco 2960 switches with the channel-group option like this:

interface FastEthernet0/1
channel-group 1 mode on
!
interface FastEthernet0/2
channel-group 1 mode on

I thought the port-channel 1 would get automatically created but it didn't, should it?  And under the port-channel interface should I set this as a trunk or do I do this on the 2 fa interfaces on each switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - Etherchannel Load Balancing Between Two Switches

Mar 5, 2012

Is it possible to use two different load balancing methods at each end of a port-channel between two switches?

We have a Cisco 6509 at one end of the port-channel and a Cisco blade switch 3020 at the other end.  Right now, we are using "src-dst-ip" at both end of the port-channel.  We would like to change this.  That is, we would like the #3020 switch to use "src-dst-ip" while the 6509 switch should use the "src-dst-port".

Why we want to do this, the reason is that we have FWSMs on the 6509.  I've read that by configuring "src-dst-port" on the 6509, one can get a better performance of traffic going through the FWSM.  However, the issue is that the 3020 switch does not support "src-dst-port".

Loud Fans 2950 Switches Lab Environment

I'm having some serious sound problem with some 2950 Cisco switches that I have in my CCNA lab these switches sound like a jet I've gone in and made sure the fans are clean and I even replaced one they still are too loud. So I have a few options I can run them without a fan which I really don't want to do but I want to look at two other options. The first option would be to put a heat sink on the chip that's producing heat I also thought about cutting a whole in the top and mounting a 120mm fan.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trunking Between Catalyst 2950 Switches?

May 14, 2012

have setup a small lab as per CBTNuggets. Everything was going well until I introduced a second switch to create a trunk. Now I cannot ping between my two switches. Both show operational mode as down:

SWITCH1#show interfaces f0/12 switchport
Name: Fa0/12
Switchport: Enabled
Administrative Mode: trunk
Operational Mode: down
Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q

[code]....

I have tried to allow all vlans or vlan 1 specifically and the output of the above doesn't seem to change. I am wondering if there is something in the config-register that is preventing trunking, but I don't really know enough yet!

The output of my second switch is identical to this one, the only difference is that I have it configured as a vtp client.

Cisco Catalyst 2950 - GigE Switches With 64bit IF-MIB SNMP Counters?

I realize I could pick up a 2960G for $1500-2k and be good to go, but I forsee a larger switch purchase in the future, but still could use a switch in the meantime that was able to allow accurate monitoring of closet uplink bandwidth?

Linksys Wired Router :: Vlan Trunking 2960 And 2950 Switches

Feb 18, 2011

I have a number of class-'c's as a hand-off from my data center fiber to my 2960, which then sprawls the racks with about many 2950 switches, mostly 20 machines per switch. To allow machines on one 2950 to push data to another 2950 without routing back to my ISP's router(which costs money for bandwidth) isn't is possible to trunk one port on each 2950 to another 2950 and adding a addititional vlan8 to them. Then data jumps from 2950 to 2950 without going back to the 2960 or mainly not going back to my ISP's router.  Is this the correct way to accoplish this with extra vlan and trunking the 2950's to each other or am I looking at this all wrong?

Cisco :: 2950 / 2960 / 3560 / 3750 / 2125 / 1262 - Centrally Manage All Switches

Aug 27, 2012

I have more than 20 Cisco switches in my office which is basically a soap manufacturing factory. The switches include Cisco 2950, 2960, 3560, 3750 etc. We have routers also which include 2821, 2951 etc. We also have Cisco WLC 2125 and LAP 1262 series. Sometimes all these devices management comes very tough to us.

We need to log on to different devices for troubleshooting/network management which sometimes becomes very tough to us. So I wonder if there any Cisco applications or tools by which we can centrally manage all these devices.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 - Private VLAN Across Trunk To Older Model Switches

Mar 7, 2012

I am looking into the possibility of using private vlan's for some dmz implementations however I do have what may be some very rudimentary questions. It seems straightforward how to configure the primary/secondary vlan configuration as well as associating them. However in my case I would be looking to configure the PVLAN on a 6500-vss platform acting as the router while all of the hosts which I would desire to have in the isolated vlan would be spread out across a number of older Cisco switches which only support "protected port" setup or Procurve switches all of which I do not have budget to replace with something newer. So in my scenario I would have a 6500 connected by trunk to multiple switches which only support a protected port setup such as a Procurve (top of rack) or a Cisco 2950. As the Procurve or 2950 would not support Private VLAN setup, do I then just configure the secondary vlan to be allowed across the trunk from the 6500, configure that vlan on the Procurve or 2950 (as vtp will not foward the info for the secondary vlan) and assign that vlan to the host port as well as setting it as a protected port and this will communicate just fine across the trunk to the router as well as stopping the protected port in top of rack switch 1 from being able to communicate to a protected port in top of rack 2,3,etc? If the above scenario is what needs to be done, do I just use a regular trunk or do I have to use a PVLAN trunk?

Cisco Switches :: 3750 / SMB Switch Integrations With Non-SMB Infrastructure?

Jul 27, 2011

A customer is expanding their network into another wing, and they have a good number of existing Small Business switches (specifically the SGE-2010P - [URL] that they're interested in possibly deploying.  They have a full-blown Cisco infrastructure and voice deployment (Cat 6500 core switches, 3750 switch stacks, Communications Manager w/ over 1,000 phones, etc.).

The general concern is whether there is ANY known issues or concerns with trying to mix/integrate the Small Business equipment with non-SMB infrastructure. Looking at the datasheet for this switch, it's clearly PoE, supports QoS, although it doesn't specifically indicate it can provide a voice/auxiliary VLAN for a phone detected by CDP - that would be a big deal.  So basically, "a switch is a switch", and I'm just posing this question to make sure there's no reason (technically or from a support standpoint) that we would not recommend integrating these.

Cisco Infrastructure :: 2 6509-E Switches Connected Directly To Each Other While Using VRF-lite (Sup 2T)?

Apr 11, 2013

I am trying to test (if possible) the idea of having 2 6509-E switches connected directly to each other while using VRF-lite (Sup 2T). The idea is to have 3-4 separate networks. For example Net-A, Net-B,Net-C, Net-D. There is no PE router*, just these two switches. Also, there sin't any other access layer switches. All users connect directly to the 6509-E's via switch 48 port switch blades.

Net-A and Net-B on separate VRF's, but able to talk to each other. Net-C and Net-D* on separate VRF's without being able to talk to any other. Net-D* will have a PE since it comes from an external network. This is something I would like to test in a lab environment, but I am not familiar with VRF's.

Cisco Infrastructure :: ASA 5510 - Plug In And Internal Switches Have Slow Speed?

Jul 19, 2012

I have a 100mbps internet connection from my ISP but once the connection hits the ASA the download speed gets reduced to 15mbps. My network is setup as follows: ISP Modem ---- Edge Switch ----- ASA --- Internal Cisco Switches

If I plug my computer into an extra port on the Edge Switch I get speeds around 92mbps with normal traffic still going to the ASA. But when I plug into the ASA and internal switches I have speeds of 15mbps.

I have made sure that duplex/speed match on the links. I have done packet captures and within  two minutes I do have several dup acks and retransmissions. The retransmissions don't seem to match the dup acks. (The retransmission is not for the dup ack requested so the dup ack keeps being resent)

The only interface error is on the inside interface which includes 700 overruns in a weeks worth of time.I am not using an IPS/IDS. I do have several vpns on it but was not going through a vpn tunnel. I am also using NAT.I am using an ASA 5510 8.2(1)
