Cisco LAN :: TCP Window Scaling Supported On 3750G And 2960G Switches?

Feb 7, 2013

We have the 3750G with the IOS version 12.2(35)SE5. Does this IOS version and switch support the TCP Window Scaling detailed in this doc?  The doc says Release 12.2(8)T. And I don't see the 3750G or the 2960G platforms listed in the doc.

TCP Window Scaling Factor Not Always Set In SYN Request?

Jul 10, 2011

I am facing strange behavior in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.I have a client program in my PC and server program outside network.I can see that some time TCP WINDOWS SCALING working and some time not.In first Log after 3 way handshakes established I can see data transfer happening bocs from log I can see it is settings SCALING factor.

But for some cases where I see that connection happened but data transfer not happening (May be my network does not work without Scaling..) I can see my WINSOWS TCP stack has not set SCALING in SYN request.Hence in 2 nd log I can see "Scale factor not supported"...though I enabled SCALING in my WINDOW .

You can see in 2nd log :: [ Win=8192 ( ) = 8192 ] - not settings scaling factor some time.How to fix this issue so that Windows 7 / Vista always set SCALING in SYN request.

My TCP Settings :::

Receive-Side Scaling State : enabled
Chimney Offload State : automatic
NetDMA State : enabled[code].....

Cisco Switches :: 2960g Better Way To Connect All These Switches

Oct 23, 2011

I have 3 2960g switches that each have about 40 devices (pc's, printers, etc..) attached to them.  Each of these 2960 switches has one port connected to a port on a  "core" switch, which is a 3950g.  The 3950 has 3 switches and all of our servers (12) conected to it's ports.  The network seems to be running alright, however most, if not all, of the port lights on ALL switches blink wildly(at least I consider it "wildly").  Am I doing this wrong?  Is there a better way to connect all these switches?Also, this configuration is for our first floor.  The second floor has the exact same configuration, and the two 3950's (one upstairs, one downstairs) arec connected via fiber.

Cisco WAN :: 2960G - SFPs - Unable To Connect 2 Switches

Apr 10, 2013

Trying to connect 2 switches together (both 2960G 8 ports). I have an SFP in each (GLC-LH-SM). They are connecting over SingleMode Fibre using the correct cabling. The fibre cores have been tested and are all ok also.

I can't get no Layer 1 connectivitiy at all. Just dead. I have tried 4 different GBICS, swapped cabled etc.. I have forced the media type to use SFP. No link light....

I thought it would just be a case of plugging in the gbics cables and off I go! I read about forcing the speed and duplex on the port but because the port if SFP, the speed and duplex settings are not available. This seems to be hard coded.

Cisco Switches :: VLAN Tagging ESW-540 And 3750g

Aug 19, 2011

I am currently tasked with setting up a network, pretty much from scratch, that requires some fairly hefty VLAN deployment. My hardware on hand (already existed so can't can't change anything easily) 5x ESW-540-48 Switches, 1x3750g switch, 1x2811 router.  I don't believe the router should be required as the 3750 is capable of intervlan routing. [code]

Now at one point I actually had the VLAN's *working* in that I could specify an IP address and could ping to and from it!  However DHCP wasn't passing despite numerous attempts with DHCP relay and IP-Helper configurations.Also I was having issues with VLAN 1 as the native VLAN, the ESW switches don't allow you to do much with them, as they 'weren't created by the user'.  So tried switching that out to VLAN11 also but with very little success there (I had to change the native vlan on all trunks to VLAN 11)All the 10.x.x.x addresses need to be able to communicate with each other.All the ESW switches need to be able to handle their respective VLAN's as well as VLAN 1 (for Printers and wireless access points distributed around the building).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G / Switches Flooding Multicast Streams But IGMP Enabled?

Nov 3, 2011

I have a 2x Cisco 3750G switches (Stacked) that are part of an IP Video Surveillance System .All network is set to 1 VLAN (VLAN 1 default).The Cisco SWs ( Core )  are configured with IGMP Querier + Snooping .Connected to the Cisco SWs are 4 Fiber Rings(Loops)  for redundancy . RSTP and IGMP Snooping are enabled on all the network SWs .Network Architecture Figure :

When all Fiber Rings (Loops ) are connected , the Cisco and Ring SWs spanning-tree tables show the blocked and forwarding ports properly .I am able to connect all my IP Cams + Encoders to the Ring SWs and connect my Servers + WorkStations to the Cisco SWs to record and view the multicast ip streams .All streams from Rings 1 ,3 and 4 are getting normally to the Servers + WorkStations through multicast ( IGMP Snooping are filled correctly on the Cisco and non-Cisco SWs ) . All multicast streams are joined normally except for Ring 2 .The Multicast streams passing through Ring 2 will operate normally for around 2 hours then after that the Fiber SWs begin to flood their multicast traffic causing the cams on the same switch to drop off the network .

I checked the Configuration of all the SWs on Ring 2 but all are are the same .

What is weird is that I have to set all the streams to unicast to stop the flooding just on Ring 2 (All other rings are not affected ) then after some time if I enabled a video multicast stream on one of the SWs of the Ring it will be streamed properly to the Servers + WorkStations ( All IGMP tables along the way will be filled properly ) then again after 2 hours or so , the flooding will start again suddenly and all IGMP  table entries for the SW on Ring2 will be empty . No problem occurs on the other Rings which have more multicast streams .

Cisco Switches :: SG300-28P - POE Not Correctly Supported On All Ports?

Aug 10, 2012

So, I spent some time this weekend troubleshooting the issues I've had  with the new SG300-28P switch and POE to many of my devices in the  office.  As a recap, I cannot utilize all of the 24 POE ports on the switch  for POE purposes.  Really only every other port [with a few odd  combinations thrown in between]. In addition, the SG300-28P switch, on occasion, is sending POE to non-POE devices [e.g. my Ruckus Zone Director 1106].

Here are my POE devices [all 802.3 af-compliant]: 3 Ruckus 7982 access points1 Pakedge access point2 home-automation controllers2 Polycom voip phones I called Cisco support several times in regards to this problem, and they figured it was a hardware issue - a faulty switch.  So, Cisco sent me a replacement SG300-28P, which I  hooked up today.  The exact problem still occurs.  Default configuration  [fresh out of the box].  No way I can land, for example, the 3 Ruckus  7982 AP's on ports 1, 2, and 3 [or ports 1,13, and 2].  I have to put  them on ports 1, 3, and 5 in order for them to power up.  In addition, I  can't plug any other POE devices on the ports either between or below  them.   I had to skip another port bay.  This is very odd behavior!!   Two Cisco SG300-28P's in a row with the same problem.

However, I also had one of the new Cisco SG300-10P switches in my  possession for a recent project of ours.  I decided to hook up the same  POE devices to this switch.  ALL POE devices were recognized and  worked!  No need to skip a port.  And it didn't matter what device was  plugged in first or not.  I am now convinced that it is either a  hardware issue [bad power supply/transformer?] inside all of the  SG300-28P switches, or a firmware issue.

Both of the SG300-28P switches were running firmware 1.1.2 [the  latest on Cisco's website].  So, I decided to install an older firmware  version on the SG300-28P switch that I'm returning [installed 1.1.1.8].   Here's what I found out.  I could then plug 2 POE devices [e.g. two  Ruckus AP's] in adjacent horizontal ports, but not three in a row.  In  addition, not all adjacent ports.  It's funky. For example, I could plug  an access point in ports 20 and 21, but not in 21 and 22.  No rhyme or  reason in how it worked.  And I still couldn't plug an access point in  adjacent vertical ports [e.g. ports 1 and 13].  BUT...

It's interesting that the same exact switch that would not initially  allow 2 horizontally-adjacent POE ports to be utilized WOULD allow 2  horizontally-adjacent POE ports to be utilized when running a different  firmware version.   It's also interesting to note that when plugged into  a "non-working" POE  port, the SG300-28P would actually make a small whining noise.  Very  subtle noise; I could hear it when approx. 1ft away from the switch.   The noise was not noticeable when ports were skipped [and POE actually  worked].  Therefore, I believe that Cisco has some SG300-28P firmware  bugs [at least in the last two versions of firmware] that is not truly  allowing all 24 ports to utilize POE correctly.  This problem does not  exist with the SG300-10P switch.

In addition, I'd like to know when they think a solution could be  created if it's firmware-related.  If hardware-related, I don't think  I'll be recommending any 28P switches in our projects.  Perhaps just the  regular SG300-28 with a separate SG300-10P.  It's a shame because the  SG300-28P is more of a bargain when compared to the two separate  components.

I have tried multiple times from multiple computers using many different web browsers, including IE6 which is listed as supported. I have let it go for as long as 1.5 hours but to no avail.I also had a few idential switches here that had never been upgarded to SE2, I have had no problems loading SE3 onto them using the same method so it would seem that the tar file I have downloaded is valid.
