Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G-24TS Interface Drops?

Feb 6, 2012

I'm troubleshooting interface drops. However the output of the following show commands don't match number of drops. Based on the output, can you find out what is causing the drops? the G1/0/28 is the uplink. Is that just the port got overrun by the traffic?

GigabitEthernet1/0/28 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 0019.5667.191c (bia 0019.5667.191c)

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Mac Flap Errors On Stacked 3750G

Feb 27, 2013

I currently have a stack of 3750G switches with a cross stack etherchannel connected to a 3750E stack in the distribution layer. The 3750G stack is running 15.0-2SE IP Base. I began noticing the Mac flap issue when I was Re-enabling dot1x on the switchports. As first I thought dot1x maybe have contributed to this so I removed it from the stack temporarily.I am still seeing Mac flap logs usually when a machine reboots or re-connects back to the network. These are all wired desktops.I started looking at the etherchannel configuration which is using LACP. The 3750E stack looks fine with all ports in mode active. On the problematic 3750G stack I noticed 3 of the ports in the etherchannel set to mode active and 1 port set to mode passive. The port shows as bundled but I can't imagine this is ok.The only other difference on this one port is there is no mls qos commands like on the other 3 interfaces in the port channel.I mainly need to know what the Mac flapping is about. Whether it is a bug or related to the current etherchannel configuration.

I saw some Spanning tree block port status on that switch.when i type Show cdp neghbor command on switch i can see other switch through a server connected port. Also Spannig tree root bridge election is occured through that port . Simply i need to configure both switches to pass traffic through there uplinks them selves.. but it seems like Secondry switch pass its traffic through primary switch ( i think according to STP ) usinginterconnection of bridge port of a server. Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G / Switches Flooding Multicast Streams But IGMP Enabled?

Nov 3, 2011

I have a 2x Cisco 3750G switches (Stacked) that are part of an IP Video Surveillance System .All network is set to 1 VLAN (VLAN 1 default). The Cisco SWs ( Core )  are configured with IGMP Querier + Snooping .Connected to the Cisco SWs are 4 Fiber Rings(Loops)  for redundancy . RSTP and IGMP Snooping are enabled on all the network SWs .Network Architecture Figure :

When all Fiber Rings (Loops ) are connected , the Cisco and Ring SWs spanning-tree tables show the blocked and forwarding ports properly .I am able to connect all my IP Cams + Encoders to the Ring SWs and connect my Servers + WorkStations to the Cisco SWs to record and view the multicast ip streams .All streams from Rings 1 ,3 and 4 are getting normally to the Servers + WorkStations through multicast ( IGMP Snooping are filled correctly on the Cisco and non-Cisco SWs ) . All multicast streams are joined normally except for Ring 2 .The Multicast streams passing through Ring 2 will operate normally for around 2 hours then after that the Fiber SWs begin to flood their multicast traffic causing the cams on the same switch to drop off the network .

I checked the Configuration of all the SWs on Ring 2 but all are are the same .

What is weird is that I have to set all the streams to unicast to stop the flooding just on Ring 2 (All other rings are not affected ) then after some time if I enabled a video multicast stream on one of the SWs of the Ring it will be streamed properly to the Servers + WorkStations ( All IGMP tables along the way will be filled properly ) then again after 2 hours or so , the flooding will start again suddenly and all IGMP  table entries for the SW on Ring2 will be empty . No problem occurs on the other Rings which have more multicast streams .

1. Is my switch model compatible with this iOS version?

2. Do you recommend the upgrade? Does it bring some notable features?

3. Can I upgrade for free or do I need to buy some license?

4. I also want to upgrade/add the crypto image, can I add crypto for free or some license is required?

5. I have remote access to my switch via the console cable which plugged into machine1. But machine1 is connected to network via the same switch. I am accessing machine1 via SSH, and then the switch via console cable (minicom on CentOS). Is there an upgrade procedure for this kind of situation that also has some fall back (like reboot in X minutes and load the previous image) if the upgrade goes wrong?

The mac-address 0000.0000.fe21 is not found on any checkpoint interface. "Show mac-address int gi1/0/24 or gi2/0/24" does not show the correct mac-address of the checkpoint interface connected to the port, but instead shows 0000.0000.fe21.Is there a bug in the IOS, something wrong with the switch config or does it have something to do with the checkpoint config?

I understand the differences between the IPBASE and IPSERVICES ios but am not quite clear as to how you can tell which ios images will work on which Cisco switch model platforms, other than the fact that some switches are designed only to run the IPBASE images and others have advanced hardware to run the advanced images. Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.2 Logs Are Not Showing MAC Address?

We recently had to rebuild our ACS server.  Now when we have an 802.1x authentication failure and look at the RADIUS logs for the specific user, it does not show us the MAC address of the device the user tried to login with.  We use this all the time because users have PDAs and other mobile devices that they save their passwords on.  Then when they change their domain password on their laptop, they don't change it on their PDA which then tries to authenticate them using the wrong password and eventually locks them out.  We need to see the MAC address so we can pinpoint which device is causing the lockout.  The report I am generating is when you go to this location: Monitoring & Reports > ... > Reports > Catalog > User > User_Authentication_Summary

I decided I'd log into the router to see if there was a firmware update or anything. I had checked the logs and there are quite a few entries relating to DoS. I googled around and saw that it could be some sort of packet loss and the router is mistaking it for some sort of DoS attack. And that due to it not showing up multiple times every second it likely isn't a DoS attack. Here is a few from the logs:

Cisco :: 3560 Not Showing CRC And Input Errors In Logging

Oct 21, 2012

I ran into a problem a few weeks ago and am still trying to figure out why either the 3560 switch or our Cacti syslog server did not alert us when one of our ports was experiencing heavy CRC and Input errors.

I had upgraded the IOS to 12.2(55)SE6 and rebooted the switch.  About a week later, someone was troubleshooting why print jobs were having problems printing to a high speed printer.  When I looked at the interface it showed a few thousand CRC and Input errors.  I cleared the counters and had them print again and watched as the CRC and Input errors went up.  When I did a "show log" there were no error messages.  Looking at our Cacti Syslog there were also no errors present for the past 6 months.

We found that the device on the port was set to auto speed and duplex and the switch port was at 100/Full.  Once we got them to match the problem was resolved, but we were left wondering why we never got any alerts.

We also have some 3548 and 3550 model switches that Cacti picks up %LINK-4-ERROR for any ports that show CRC and Input errors.  I did some research and it appears that the 3560 switches do not have the LINK facility code.  I believe it has been replaced with a PHY link code but I'm not sure.  We do have some "%PHY-4-EXCESSIVE_ERRORS: Excessive FCS, data, or idle word errors found" but they are all for 3750 switches.  I could not find any 3560 that had alerted for that error or the LINK error.

I also tripped port security on the 3560 switch just to make sure that it was reporting correctly to Cacti and that alert did show up.

My question is how do I get a 3560 switch to alert in the logging buffer for CRC/Input/FCS errors?  Also, how I can generate CRC and Input errors on purpose for testing?  I tried mismatching the speed/duplex/Auto and only got collissions, no CRC or Input errors.
