Cisco Switching/Routing :: Connecting 3750G With DLink Switches Through Fiber (SFP)
Jul 18, 2011
I have issue with connectivity 3750G with Dlink Switch, it cannot connect to non-cisco switch with fiber , But CISCO to CISCO switch it shows connectivity. My question is that is there any configuration on Cisco 3750G switch to connect with non-cisco switch through fiber (SFP) ?

I need to connect 4 Floor Building with 4 Cisco 2960 - 48 ports switch each other and it needs to be through a fiber. So all PCs connected to each switch would reach the LAN/WAN from the other switch. (attached is the image here with)
I see that the 2960 has 2 SFP ports each port of each switch should connect each other or how?
My simple question is:
1. What cable / patch code I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode? ( distance for each switch will not more then 25 mts)
2. Do I have to use SFP or SFP+ module?
3. What kind of SFP/SFP+ module I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode?
4. What kind of connector should patch code have = LC / SC or ?
5. How to connect each switch with redundancy like ...each switch should be interconnected with each other or I have to choose Cisco 3750G which has more then 2 SFP ports (option#1 & opetion#2 = attached here with) =
Best practice for connecting cisco switches over fiber.

Prior we only had 62.5u multi mode.I've got 3750x switches and new SM SFP and yellow fiber patch cables. None of my links show connected. No lights and trunk port interfaces show down/down.
Is there a special command you have to do on a port when using SM fiber? Do you think I need cross over fibers?
Also, should I be able to see a laser signal light like MM or is SM a different frequency so it's not as visible as MM?

The two stacked Cisco 3750G Access switches on a particular floor in my coy just lost connectivity to the distribution Switch this morning. This meant that all Users connected to it couldnt connect to the Internet nor access local network resources.I couldn't ping the Switch IP, I couldn't also access the Switch via Console port. Each time I tried to gain access via the console port, I keep getting "Authentication Failed" message. What should I do next? How do I gain access to the Switch?

I have a WS-X6816-10G-2T module with X2-10GB-SR modules. I will be getting a SMF hand off and the length of the termination is around 100 meters. (I will be getting another hand off for Inter-DC link for which I have X2-10GB-LR module). The question is can I connect this SMF hand off (short length) on the SR module?

We have a Site that is connected via Wireless Bridge to the Main Site, the site is on separate VLAN with Cisco 3560 switch. The main site has 6509 swith. Configuration as per attached diagram. We are connecting a fiber between the remote and the main site and adding a 3560E switch at the remote site, however we would like to keep the wireless connection as a backup in case the fiber is severed the wireless will be availble. Attached diagram shows detailed cofiguration. I would like to know what should I change to make this working. STP is enabled on all switches.

In one location we have a HP 2510-48 port switch which we need to connect to a Cisco 3560 switch. The problem I have is that we have issues connecting fibre to the HP switch, so I have decided to attached a CAT 5 to Fibre convertor at this end and another to the cisco switch.
My question you can not connect a HP switch to a Cisco switch, is this true or do I just need to confirgure something on the ports.

We have to connect two 3750G switches to some HP machines. Those machines have several network interfaces, which are going to be configured in several bondings. The load balancing mode they want to configure is mode 6, alb. We have investigated and it is: [code] Receive load balancing is achieved through ARP negotiation. We would like to know if it is supported to be connected to a 3750G an if an special configuration is needed.

I have faced a problem with configuring Cisco 3750G series switches as Sever farm switches with redudance.
servers have 2NIC (1GBps) and both are bridged for redundant connections. In both switches all ports get green coluor except one port on Secondary SW. I saw some Spanning tree block port status on that switch.when i type Show cdp neghbor command on switch i can see other switch through a server connected port. Also Spannig tree root bridge election is occured through that port . Simply i need to configure both switches to pass traffic through there uplinks them selves.. but it seems like Secondry switch pass its traffic through primary switch ( i think according to STP ) usinginterconnection of bridge port of a server. Company I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.

Since the SFP has LC Connector, i suppose i need to have an SC-LC Cable for connecting the Ethernet link. Do i need anything else, apart from above?

I have a 2x Cisco 3750G switches (Stacked) that are part of an IP Video Surveillance System .All network is set to 1 VLAN (VLAN 1 default). The Cisco SWs ( Core ) are configured with IGMP Querier + Snooping .Connected to the Cisco SWs are 4 Fiber Rings(Loops) for redundancy . RSTP and IGMP Snooping are enabled on all the network SWs .Network Architecture Figure :
When all Fiber Rings (Loops ) are connected , the Cisco and Ring SWs spanning-tree tables show the blocked and forwarding ports properly .I am able to connect all my IP Cams + Encoders to the Ring SWs and connect my Servers + WorkStations to the Cisco SWs to record and view the multicast ip streams .All streams from Rings 1 ,3 and 4 are getting normally to the Servers + WorkStations through multicast ( IGMP Snooping are filled correctly on the Cisco and non-Cisco SWs ) . All multicast streams are joined normally except for Ring 2 .The Multicast streams passing through Ring 2 will operate normally for around 2 hours then after that the Fiber SWs begin to flood their multicast traffic causing the cams on the same switch to drop off the network .
I checked the Configuration of all the SWs on Ring 2 but all are are the same .
What is weird is that I have to set all the streams to unicast to stop the flooding just on Ring 2 (All other rings are not affected ) then after some time if I enabled a video multicast stream on one of the SWs of the Ring it will be streamed properly to the Servers + WorkStations ( All IGMP tables along the way will be filled properly ) then again after 2 hours or so , the flooding will start again suddenly and all IGMP table entries for the SW on Ring2 will be empty . No problem occurs on the other Rings which have more multicast streams .

CiscoSwitch1(4506) has 3 VLANs(12,13,14) and Switch2(4948) has 3 different VLANs(22,23,24) and IP routing has been enabled in both switches with SVI interfaces for each vlan. intervlan routing is works fine. Now there is a requirement to connect these switches together. Vlan 12 on the Cisco switch 4506 has to be made available from vlan 22 from Switch2(4948). basically Vlan 12 is having a multicast source (225.0.0.0 & 226.0.0.0) which should be accessabile from vlan 22 of cisco switch 4948.I got 2 ideas
1) Create a trunk between these switches and configure L2 vlan(12) in cisco 4948...i know theoritically it should work but what my concern is Ip routing enabled in both switches will it create any issues? is it a gud solution to this requirement?
2) Create a separate IP network on the ports connecting to both switches and set up routes to the networks.ex- console(config)#ip route 192.168.10.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.20.1.

I have two C2960 switches which have the management VLAN for other switches. These two switches are connected with each other via portchannel. Now the mgmt0 of few switches is connected to switch 1 and few other connect to switch 2.I have also connected the mgmt0 of switch 1 to an access port of switch 2 and vice versa. However in this set-up I am unable to reach switch1 via the mgmt0 IP address. However I can reach the mgmt0 Ip address of switch 2.I can also reach switch 1 and 2 via their int vlan IP.Has some one else experienced this and is their any specific reason why mgmt 0 IP address of switch 1 is not reachable.I have tried doing similar set-up on C3750, but have acheived same result i.e. I am unable to reach mgmt0 of switch 1.

I have a small network using a 24 port 3750 switch. I need to add five computers in another room and only have one Cat 6 cable running there and no room left on the 3750. I got a 3650 to put in the new room with the new computers. The problem is, whenever I plug the new switch into the 3750, it shuts down the port and gives me an err-disable. I can do a shut/no shut and re-enable the port. I searched the web and read about trunking and clusters. I'm not sure which, if either, is appropriate. I see various documentation that shows you can put one switch behind the other. But nothing tells me the configuration which will allow it.
