I have a WS-X6816-10G-2T module with X2-10GB-SR modules. I will be getting a SMF hand off and the length of the termination is around 100 meters. (I will be getting another hand off for Inter-DC link for which I have X2-10GB-LR module). The question is can I connect this SMF hand off (short length) on the SR module?

I see that the 2960 has 2 SFP ports each port of each switch should connect each other or how?
My simple question is:
1. What cable / patch code I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode? ( distance for each switch will not more then 25 mts)
2. Do I have to use SFP or SFP+ module?
3. What kind of SFP/SFP+ module I have to use = Single-mode or Multimode?
4. What kind of connector should patch code have = LC / SC or ?

Best practice for connecting cisco switches over fiber.
In one location we have a HP 2510-48 port switch which we need to connect to a Cisco 3560 switch. The problem I have is that we have issues connecting fibre to the HP switch, so I have decided to attached a CAT 5 to Fibre convertor at this end and another to the cisco switch.
My question you can not connect a HP switch to a Cisco switch, is this true or do I just need to confirgure something on the ports.
I need to know the oversubscirption for the WS-X6816-10G-2T, the 2T supervisor engine supports 80Gbps for each slot so the oversubscirption should be 2:1 (if my calculation is correct) but I cannot find any confirmation about that

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a Site that is connected via Wireless Bridge to the Main Site, the site is on separate VLAN with Cisco 3560 switch. The main site has 6509 swith. Configuration as per attached diagram. We are connecting a fiber between the remote and the main site and adding a 3560E switch at the remote site, however we would like to keep the wireless connection as a backup in case the fiber is severed the wireless will be availble. Attached diagram shows detailed cofiguration. I would like to know what should I change to make this working. STP is enabled on all switches.

The default configuration mode is X2. As I want to deploy Gigabit interfaces (that is, use TwinGig Convertors), then I configured the associated port-group:

I noted that the Swicth set up automatically 'switchport mode trunk', so i put the command 'swicthport mode access' because i want to connect only a PC. View 5 Replies View RelatedWe would like to setup a link to our DR site that is separate from our main network traffic. This link will be used by an EMC VNX SAN for replication traffic. The SAN will be plugged into a fiber port on a 3750 switch and going out from the same switch (going in as multimode, going out as single mode) into a patch panel that runs over to the DR site (about a mile away). At the DR site it will go from the fiber panel into another 3750 switch which ends up going back out of that switch into our DR SAN.
I'm wondering what the best way would be to configure the fiber ports to accomplish this. I'm affraid that the replication traffic will find it's way over through another route and congest our main network unless configured appropriately.

Is there a special command you have to do on a port when using SM fiber? Do you think I need cross over fibers?
Also, should I be able to see a laser signal light like MM or is SM a different frequency so it's not as visible as MM?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with connecting to a Cisco 7201 via the AUX port through a modem. The modem is plugged into the AUX port and I am dialing into the modem, everything seems to be working fine as I get a login prompt and my banner etc but I can't type anytihng. If I type then nothings happens... If I just type a bunch of random characters on the keyboard then when the authentication prompt times out and it goes back to the username, it will show a few of those characters.. I have tried many things, changing speeds etc, I have even tried changing modems and it is doing the exact same thing.Here is my config:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a 6509 switch to a 4503-E switch using single mode dark fiber over a distance of less than half a mile. Although a routine task, it does not work..We have a care 6509 switch where we concentrate all of our dark fiber connections for our remote sites. The 6509 switch already has 30 remote sites, most of them with 4503-E switches, connected in this way therefore it is a tested scenario. For the connections we use the GLC-LH-SM SFPs on both switches. Out of these 30 sites we had a similar problem with two of them, which we solved with the use of CWDM SFPs. With the CWDMs the fiber came up right away. However, I cannot keep using this solution because it is way too expensive! I had the losses of the fiber measured end-to-end and they are negligible (>0.5 dB).
In this latest case, like I said, we could not bring the connection up between the core 6509 switch and the 4503-E switch using the GLC-LH-SM SFPs. I then replaced the 4503-E switch with a 3560 and the link came up! Then I tried using a CWDM-SFP in the 4503-E, while keeping the GLC-LH-SM SFP in the 6509 and the link came alive again! Of course we already tried replacing the fiber patch cords with no luck. [code] I find it very weird for the link to work with the 3560 or with a CWDM in the 4503 but NOT with the SFP in the 4503!
Company I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.
I am working on a project to connect 2 switch stacks via 10 Gb fiber. I am told that the 3750Xs do not natively receive the 10 GB SFPs. What part numbers do i need to order to make this work? Is there any IOS image requirements?

Cisco docs indicate each module is supported in specific ASR and ONS but does not indicate interfacing between the two. If these two modules will communicate without error via multimode fiber?
