I am trying to configure a loop back interface like so: [URL], on the following device:
C3550 Software (C3550-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(50)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1on port gig0/1 which is using a 1000Base-SX adapter. This is for troubleshooting purposes and it does not appear to be a feasible option. Is there another way to accomplish in the IOS?
We have Cisco 3524XL switch, Motorola AXS1800 chassis. I am configuring this cisco switch so I can connect AXS1800 traffic thru cisco 3524XL, on switch port gigabit 0/1, I am using cisco Part no. I have a bunch of 3750x switches that each have a 10 gig routed link back to a central 4507 (loopback = 172.30.255.255).We carved up a /24 (of course, the /24 doesn't really exist except in our address tracking spreadsheet) into a bunch of /30's for routed WAN links and /32's for loopback addresses.We started on the low end for /30 subnets (ie 172.30.255.0/30, 172.30.255.4/30, etc.).We started at the high end for the /32 loopbacks (ie 172.30.255.255/32, 172.30.255.254/32, etc.)
Well, when I try pinging 172.30.255.255 from the access layer 3750x switches, the 3750x seems to be treating it as a broadcast ping where it lists each member that responds instead of the regular !!!!! response (this makes think something is odd with the 3750x). Of course, only one member responds (the core). But even the core seems to respond with the other end of the /30 instead of the actual /32 loopback (which makes me think something is odd in the core). I could have sworn that I've setup similar topologies without problems (ie, using 10.0.0.0/32, 10.255.255.255/32, etc as loopbacks) and as long as the mask is a /32, it should work.Also, I can ping/ssh to that loopback if my laptop is on a directly connected subnet. But I can't do it from any of the 3750x switches (which are also directly connected).I've double checked for overlapping subnets, but nope. I don't see any. Routing looks fine. The actual /32 is being propagated everywhere properly.
The following error was seen on the switch and the Diagnostic Test Loop back failed following a new WS-6748-SFP module installation.Fabric in slot 5 detected excessive flow-control on channel 3 (Module 4, fabric connection 1)
Tried Hard reset of the module and still the error persist.
I have a couple a questions answers on which i cant google for a period. BTW maybe i simly use wrong aproach to choose keywords.
1) Is it possible to assign same ip address to the same client each time it authenticated, preferably without using DHCP? Im definely sure that it possible but cant find corresponded configuration examples (my device is Cisco 1921 with IOS 15.0.1).
2) Is it possible to assign dynamic crypto map to loopback interface (the purpose to make EASY VPN Server accessible through two interfaces - maybe you recommend other approach instead?) - as i move workingcrypto map from phy int to loopback - i cant connect with reason "Phace1 SA policy proposal not accepted"

We can see that 2691 and R4 are BGP neis and 2691 has 200.1.x.x routes in its route table. My question is why from 2691 router i am unable to ping any route learned by BGP from R4?

I am creating trunk ports with limited access to VLAN 300, 600, and 700.
There is two interfaces connected from the 3750's(one on each physical stack member) to the 2960.I have the physical interfaces configured exactly the same.

Should I keep the configuration on the physical ports and not configure the Port-Channel Interfaces? Do I need to configure port-channel load balancing? Is the channel-group mode sufficient? Goal is to basically create 2 links to the 2960 to double the bandwidth and provide redundancy.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of 3845 routers, some running IOS 12.4(22)T2 and earlier and some running 12.4(24)T4. On the ones with 12.4(22)T2 and earlier, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface down/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. On the ones with 12.4(24)T4, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface up/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. Interestingly in both cases, the "show controller g0/1" command shows " network link is down (NO CARRIER)" when there is no cable attached. It makes sense to us that the interface status would be down/down when there is no cable attached. It does not makes sense to us that the interace would be up/down. Did Cisco at some point change their philosophy on whether an interface should show down/down or up/down when there is no cable attached, or is this a bug?

I know that the wrong IOS is installed on the switch, but the problem is that this is an endless loop. The switch resets then comes back to the same error. How to get the switch out of this loop so that I can load the correct IOS.
On a 6500 switch running ios 12.2, is there a way of clearing all config settings for a specified interface? I want to avoid going through and having to type "no blah blah etc" for each line.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a question about speed negotiation process between interfaces. I have 3650X Sw and 2960S-48port. All ports of two are GigabitEthernet, however the link between them is only 100Mb/s, Full duplex. I try to set the speed 1000 Mb/s manually in the interface then the interface never up. Its status is down/down. I must set back to speed auto. I show interface Gigabit0/24 in Sw 3650-X and figure out that there are many output drop (over 600000). I clear counter then after two days the output drop is over 70000. This link is trunk link between two switches, all ports of access SW are Gigabit and connect to PC. First, I thinks the 3650X is throttled somewhere in output direction of trunk link. But there is another trunk link (Gi0/23) to another 2960S-48port and no output drop number in this interface. This Giga 0/23 speed is 1000 Mb/s (auto speed, auto duplex)
Does any outside things impact the speed negotiation process between 2 interfaces? And output drop number may caused by abnormal speed between two Gigabit interface?
I have a WS-X6816-10G-2T module with X2-10GB-SR modules. I will be getting a SMF hand off and the length of the termination is around 100 meters. (I will be getting another hand off for Inter-DC link for which I have X2-10GB-LR module). The question is can I connect this SMF hand off (short length) on the SR module?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe would like to setup a link to our DR site that is separate from our main network traffic. This link will be used by an EMC VNX SAN for replication traffic. The SAN will be plugged into a fiber port on a 3750 switch and going out from the same switch (going in as multimode, going out as single mode) into a patch panel that runs over to the DR site (about a mile away). At the DR site it will go from the fiber panel into another 3750 switch which ends up going back out of that switch into our DR SAN.
I'm wondering what the best way would be to configure the fiber ports to accomplish this. I'm affraid that the replication traffic will find it's way over through another route and congest our main network unless configured appropriately.
Brand new 2960. When I plug a cable into the port, nothing happens. The port light doesn't begin negotiation or anything, it just stays dark. The cable works fine--I have it on another switchport with a crossover connector connecting to a little Cisco SOHO switch without problems.
I've done the following:

In other words, I've fiddled with it. But I don't know why it doesn't light up..
In one location we have a HP 2510-48 port switch which we need to connect to a Cisco 3560 switch. The problem I have is that we have issues connecting fibre to the HP switch, so I have decided to attached a CAT 5 to Fibre convertor at this end and another to the cisco switch.
My question you can not connect a HP switch to a Cisco switch, is this true or do I just need to confirgure something on the ports.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have recently purchased a Cisco 4506 that has several Gigabit Ethernet modules installed.One of the Ethernet Gigabit modules - a WS-X4424-GB-RJ45 - is being picky with who it talks to at Gigabit Ethernet.
If I plug a laptop into one of it's RJ45 ports using a Cat 6 cable, nothing happens. No link light, no notification of link up or down on port statistics, absolutely nothing.If I plug a server into the same port it works fine at Gigabit Ethernet (even using the same Cat 6 cable).I can get the module to recognize a laptop if I fix the speed/duplex on the laptop to 100Mb/Full. I have tried this with other staff laptops from different vendors (HP / Dell / etc.) all with the same result.
The module directly underneath this module - a WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 - works fine for both laptops and servers. We have tried swapping the module positions but to no avail.
Has anyone configured Layer 3 port channel on Cisco 6509 switches which are connected over dark fiber between two buildings?

It worked fine on the old switch's FastEthernet port, which was configured for speed 10 and duplex half, as that is what the device required. The new switch is a 3560X with all Gigabit ports, but the security device's port, also configured with speed 10 and duplex half, does not connect properly.As a temporary test, we daisychained another switch that has FastEthernet ports, and the security device works again.Is there anything else that needs to be added to the configuration, when using Gigabit ports at 10/half?
