Cisco :: Configure SNMPv3 On 2960G (12.2.55)?
Sep 30, 2012
I am trying to configure SNMPv3 on a 2960G (12.2.(55))
snmp-server view v3view interfaces included
snmp-server view v3view internet included
snmp-server view v3view chassis included
snmp-server view v3view system included
snmp-server group v3group v3 priv read v3viewwrite v3view notify v3view
snmp-s user v3user v3group v3 auth md5 v3secret priv aes 128 v3secret
Interestingly enough when I 'sh conf | i snmp' the user command isnt there, however it shows it under 'sh snmp user'. Using Solarwinds Eng Toolset to attempt to just pull interfaces and it keeps kicking back with creds failing.

I have routing enabled, can build a static route, and go back and see it (sh ip route), but I don't know how to get the route right. I have one host (Host A) on Vlan 20 w/192.168.20.2/24 dg 192.168.20.11 (the vlan ip) and (Host B) on Vlan 30 w/192.168.30.2/24 dg 192.168.30.11 (the vlan ip). I can't ping them from any host man. I can ping the Vlans but not the host.

Multicasting. The configuration is I have a 6506 as my core switch receiving multicasts from an interface assigned to VLAN10. I have a monitor port setup with a PC running Observer which says multicasts are being received on the core switch. On a different interface on the core switch I have a 2960G switch connected to it and this interface is on VLAN 10. The 2960G switch has a workstation connected to it that needs to receive the multicasts. How do I configure the 6506 and/or the 2960G to process the multicast traffic?

I have an interesting problem at one of my customers. They are using LMS 4.0.1, but they have a problem with user tracking with SNMPv3. They using a very simple SNMP configuration, wich is the following: [code]
Now they have UT working well for their Ctalyst 4500 switches, and the half of the 6500s (They have 2950 switches as well, but for those UT with SNMPv3 is unsupported). So the problem is the following: they have 12 6500 switches, with the same IOS version (10 pieces of WS-C6506-E + SUP720-3B IOS: 12. 2 (18) SXF17 (IP Services), 2 pieces of WS-C6506 + SUP720-BASE IOS: 12.2(18)SXF17 (IP Services)). They have identical SNMP configuration on both devices. Based on the logs from LMS it seems that on the problematic switches for some reason LMS identifies the switchports as routed: [code]

We tried to configure SNMPV3 using below Link but still there was issue. There was response fr [URL]
Wanetd to know SNMPV3 MIB are supported for Cisco 1941 Router IOS Code universalk 15.2(3)T1 & Data License. When we tried using Cisco IOS MIB Locator, we are not able to see any MIB for SNMPV3. whats is that mean. Does this Platform + IOS Support SNMPV3 or not.

we use LMS 4.2.2 to manage our Cisco devices. At the moment all devices are managed with snmpv2. I´ve picked one Catalyst 2960-24TT-L Version 12.2(25)SEE3 and configured snmpv3
Here´s the output of show snmp user:
User name: ciscoworks
Engine ID: 8000000903000022BD29EF40
storage-type: nonvolatile active
Authentication Protocol: MD5
Privacy Protocol: DES
Group-name: LMS
Now, in LMS under Admin->Network->Device Credentials Settings-> i created a new credential set "snmpv3" with the correct user/password and following settings: AuthPriv (enabled) Auth Algorithm MD5 Privacy Algorithm DES (because the 2960 12.2(25)SEE3 doesn´t support any other alorithm).
I´ve edited the credentials and assigned the new set to that device. Now to test the snmpv3 credentials i´ve started an Device credential verification job an chose snmpv3 only. But every time the job failes with the error
Wrong Privacy Algorithm.

What I am attempting to do is setup snmpv3 on two failover 5510's .The problem I am running into, the snmp management software rejects one of the devices as it sees it as having a duplicate engine ID since the two devices share the same config. Would like to know how this would work in an active/active setup being able to poll both devices.

We have a switch in our IT office, Cisco 2960G. It plugs into the wall and goes to the server room and connects somewhere. This weekend we redid almost the whole server room and now this switch can connect to the rest of the network. The uplink has a link light but can get anything.
I have rebooted the switch, used scanning on our other switches to try and find the MAC of the switch but for the life of me I cant see it. Is there a command I can run from the command line of the switch to see where its pointing?

I'm having a problem at the moment getting a Cisco switch (2960G) to work properly with a Dell blade enclosure. The config that we have on the switchports is;description Bladeswitchport access vlan 120 speed 100duplex fullndhowever, with this configured, it's throwing up a lot of CRC errors. I've taken the last two lines out, and there are less CRC errors but the connection starts running really slow. Are there any further steps that I would need to take to fully troubleshoot the issue, or is there a simple config change that could be made to resolve it?

I have a few 24-port Cisco 2960G Switches (model WS-C2960G-24TC-L) that I upgraded to IOS Release 15.0(1)SE2 using the web interface. I am now trying to upgrade those switches with the new release, 15.0(1)SE3, however I seem unable to do it, I have tried this on two switches so far, both have been upgraded to SE2 just a couple months ago or so, and both of them will not accept the SE3 upgrade, basically, I can select the tar file in the web browser and click "Upgrade" but when I do the status never changes from "Loading the tar file to the switch". I have tried multiple times from multiple computers using many different web browsers, including IE6 which is listed as supported. I have let it go for as long as 1.5 hours but to no avail.I also had a few idential switches here that had never been upgarded to SE2, I have had no problems loading SE3 onto them using the same method so it would seem that the tar file I have downloaded is valid.

Trying to connect 2 switches together (both 2960G 8 ports). I have an SFP in each (GLC-LH-SM). They are connecting over SingleMode Fibre using the correct cabling. The fibre cores have been tested and are all ok also.
I can't get no Layer 1 connectivitiy at all. Just dead. I have tried 4 different GBICS, swapped cabled etc.. I have forced the media type to use SFP. No link light....
I thought it would just be a case of plugging in the gbics cables and off I go! I read about forcing the speed and duplex on the port but because the port if SFP, the speed and duplex settings are not available. This seems to be hard coded.

I have got a catalyst cisco 2960G series switch and via this switch I want to creat serveral vlans. I am getting a dhcp IP from a router and I want to setup my own vlan networks.
I plugged in the Ethernet cable that came from the dhcp router to port 16 of the cisco switch and configured the ports 1,2 and 3 for vlan 1, 2 and 3
the dhcp router has given me this IP 192.168.10.158 defautl gateway is : 192.168.10.1
when I plug in a PC to port 1 or 2 of the cisco switch I still receiving the IP from range 192.168.10.* but not from the range that I configured for the vlan 1 or 2.
Below is my startup configuration:
no file verify auto
spanning-tree mode pvst
spanning-tree extend system-id

Do any config changes need to be made to enable multicast to work? Everything is in VLAN1 at this point and the GHOST server is also the DHCP server.

I got problem with wake on LAN software.. The software unable to ON all pc's remotely if sitting under different vlan. Everything is ok if using the same vlan. Below are the network diagram & switch configuration.
Layer 3 switch Intervlan routing configuration
ip forward-protocol udp 7
!
interface Vlan4
description vlan Client-WOL
ip address 172.22.51.253 255.255.254.0
ip access-group Deny_HTTP_Vlan1 in
ip helper-address 172.20.1.246
[code].....
After configured all the switches with the above setting, the software still cannot wake all the pc's using LAN. Base on sniffing, i can't find UDP port usage by the software. Attached here with print screen from wireshark.

I recently picked up a Catalyst 2960G and am trying to get SNMP management working over IPv6. I have the IP Address set to the local link, and can successfully ping and telnet to the switch (so the network can get traffic to and from the switch). However, SNMP packets just seem to disappear. I am running WireShark on my machine, and I see the packets go out to the proper IP, but nothing comes back. When I check "sho ipv6 traffic", I can see where there are UDP packets that are received, but, again, none going out. Also, when I run "sho snmp", all of the packet counts are 0.
Here are some relavant snipets from my "sho run":
interface Vlan1
no ip address
no ip route-cache
ipv6 enable

I recently changed jobs and at the new location we are primarily running Catalyst 2960G series switches with the exception of one 3750. All of the switches are setup in a cluster with the 3750 being the cluster master. My question is what is the benefit of switch clustering? The entire network seems to be a bit over engineered for the our needs and I am hoping to scale it back a bit. For example, the the network was setup with VOIP QoS when there were no plans to even use VOIP. Also what procedures would I want to follow to disable the cluster to avoid any major outages? Assuming there is no real need for a cluster.

I'm trying to decide what switch to use as a core for 500 users. I'm currently looking at either 2 x 3750X stacks or 2 x 4500s with dual SUPs and PSUs, both options will provide the number of switchports required without the need for additonal access layer swiches. Which switch option is best to go for here? All of our services will be located in our data centre which will be connected using 2 1000Mbps MPLS circuits. I wont need any advanced L3 features and we are not likley to scale over 450 users. Also is it ok to use the dual switch stacks or chassis to provide the collapsed core/access layer or is it best to have a dedicated core (using one of the above options with less switchports) and having a dedicated accesss layer using 2960Gs for example. Our structured cabling terminates in a single comms room so we wont need to distribute switches throughout the office.

I understand router on a stick for inter-vlan routing but where I'm having trouble is having one of the vlans be public addresses. One of my clients has a rack in a colo where there is no router, i.e. their /24 public network has .1 of the network assigned to a colo router, then they have a 2960G switch in the rack that all the gear is connected to. Public IP's are assigned to certain devices / servers with .1 as their GW. Problem is, they also have a private range on the same switch with no vlans and things are a little 'cluttered' and there is no control of traffic.
The assets I have are a 2821 router with (2) GigE interfaces and the 2960G switch. A /30 network is going to assigned on the colo gear to use to push the entire /24 down to the cabinet. I'm going to NAT the local 10.100.x addresses on vlan 10 and I want the public traffic on vlan 20. During a recent test, the private traffic worked as expected but the public traffic didn't work. I don't need a complete config, more of a 10,000 ft. view of how this needs to be done so (a) traffic is vlan'd to keep things segmented, (b) I can static inside / outside public addresses from the /24 to reduce the number of public addresses being assigned directly to servers (some of this is unavoidable, but the less the better), and (c) I can NAT the local subnet to either to the /24 or the /30 (not much very much traffic in this way).
EDIT: The switch is a C2960S, not G. I cannot enable lanbase-routing, it is apparently unavailable.
