Cisco :: Monitoring Ethernet Interfaces On Nexus 7k?
Dec 17, 2012
I am looking to configure port up/down status alerts in our monitoring system. We are using ActiveXperts Newtork Monitor Manager, which supports SNMP GET, which I would like to use. The monitoring system supports a plethra of OID data types, which I've used (Integet, ASG_INTEGET, ASGN_INTEGER32) in the past with success on our Catalyst 2k's. I'm not certain what to use for the Numeric OID value to monitor the port states on our F1 and M1 line cards.

Does any know why the ASA will monitor physical interfaces by default, but monitoring of logical interfaces is disabled by default? Or better yet, is anybody doing a monitor-interface for a subint without issue? I'd imagine it isn't enabled by default for a reason.

I would like to run some NetFlow monitoring on a few sub interfaces on a router. This is a 7301, with an NPE-G1.What I want to know is, does Cisco have a page anywhere (because I can't find one) that lists typical additional CPU and memory loads one can expect when enabling NetFlow on an (sub)-interface; perhaps for a given speed (Mbps) and/or number of flows?I don't want to enable NetFlow and then bring the device to a grinding halt, how can I know what sort of overhead to expect?

I curently have 2 Data centers connected with a Metro Ethernet Connection. Each Data Center has 6500 with Sup720s. The Metro Ethernet connection is currently conected by a L3 routed interface. I now need to enable VRFs between the locations and want to determine the best way to adjust the Mero. I was considering adjusting the routed interface to use Ethernet sub-interfaces. Each VRF would be given a different subinterface over the Metro Ethernet connection. I have done this on internal LAN connections but am concerned about exteding across data centers over Metro E.

I have a Nexus 5548UP that would be managed by two organizations. Is it possible to set IP addresses for mgmt0 and an SVI (or an L3 interface) without using the L3 daughter card? I don't want to route between VLANs, just to separate management traffic.

I use Nexus 7010 as our layer 3 router.I have ssh feature turned on so I can manage it from the management interface. I just found out that users can use putty to ssh to the local SVI interface of the NEXUS. Although they still need username and password to login but we dont want them even able to bring up the welcome screen.Example, user's IP is : 172.16.25.100 , they can ssh to 172.16.25.1 which is the NX SVI interface.

We are trying to connect 2 nexus 5558UP (5.1.(3)N1(1)) with 10G-SFP+-LR interfaces. The interfaces are not genuine cisco's (smartoptics) but as far as we can tell, they are accepted by the hardware. If we take a look at the optical levels, we can see that the switches can see eachother (double-checked by bringing down one interface to see if optical levels really disappears) on optical level, well within limits. I found a notice about changing debounce timers but this doesn't work, setting it to 0 or 1000 doesn't make a difference. Copies of the different show int commands can be found at the end of this text.

Have followed the admin guide, and can setup this up fine, however what we're wanting is to turn off any IP connection for the main wan ethernet interface and only have the sub-interface have an IP connection method.
I can't see how you can turn this off, which is causing a double-up of dhcp requests being sent when using both the main/sub ethernet interfaces to use dhcp.
This has been tested on the 521w and 521w-u versions, and I've just used the latest firmware 1.2.4 on the u version.
How can this be configured so that there is only 1 WAN interface that is using IP (the sub interface) Setting default routes to point to the sub interface doesn't make a difference.

I have a machine with two ethernet cards and internet connection, on which Ubuntu 12.04 is installed. Both ethernet cards can take ip adress automatically say,
eth0:47.168.137.14 and eth1:47.168.137.15
I can ping eth0 but can not ping eth1.
Is there a special setting for gettting both ethernet interface active and reachable at the same time.

It is my understanding that ACLs can only be bound to logical interfaces using the access-group command. However, is it possible to somehow apply ACLs simply based on the ASA's local Ethernet interface? For instance, consider the following:
Device A with IP 192.168.1.1/24 is connected to Ethernet0/0 on the ASA. Device B with IP 192.168.1.2/24 is connected to Ethernet0/1 on the ASA.
Since both devices are in the same subnet and presumably the same VLAN, is it possible to manipulate the traffic to and from physical Ethernet interfaces using ACLs in this manner?
My predicament is fairly simple:
Internet --- ASA --- ROUTER
|
DMZ
In addition to NAT, VPN, and various other tricks, my ASA is also routing traffic from my internal LAN and the Internet to servers in the DMZ configured on the ASA. Due to a combination of Internet and DMZ traffic, my relatively slow ASA is struggling to route and thus becoming a bottleneck. My router is comparatively modest in terms of functionality when compared to the ASA but it is fast. My ideal solution would be to somehow harness the ASA's filtering capabilities for my DMZ but use the router to get traffic to and from my internal LAN into the DMZ without using the ASA to route it.
Additionally, it is worth noting that my DMZ is fairly restrictive so using protected or isolated ports would not quite work for me.

I had a question regarding the Cisco 2811. I tried fitting an NM 2FE-2W card and the fast Ethernet interfaces of the module never get recognized. Is there a special command to enable it or isn't the module supported at all by the router. If not , is there a way to have the router possess more than the 2 Fast Ethernet interfaces it already has? Let me know if any more info is needed from my end.
Another question I have out of curiosity. Is it possible to make the controller T1 port of a VWIC 1MFT-T1 or a VWIC 2MFT-T1 act as a fast Ethernet.

We have a Cisco 7206 VXR Router with NPE-G2. As everybody aware that, It has got 3 x Gigabit Ethernet Ports on this. We would like to add Two more Copper Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces. The Configurator does not show any options to add that...
Now we have a doubt that, Does this 7206 VXR support how many Copper Gigabit Ethernet Interface ?. There is no clear answer available in the Data Sheets.

I know serial interfaces are called that because they put bits on the wire serially - i.e. one bit at a time. If that's the case for serial interfaces, how do other kinds of interfaces, such as Ethernet interfaces, put bits on the wire? Do they somehow put more than one bit on the wire at a time? I assume it's a faster process, but how so?

- trill or another ethernet ring topology like erps,eapsv2,
- Multi chassis LAG,
- virtual routers, policy routing
- dcb
- 40G interfaces will be plus

if I can use the encrypted port as unencrypted ethernet ports? url.. Each individual port on the Cisco Nexus 5010 switch is numbered, and groups of ports are numbered based on their function. The ports are numbered top to bottom and left to right. There are 20 to 28 ports on the Cisco Nexus 5010 switch, depending on which GEM is installed.
The 20 fixed ports form group 1 and are named 1/port_number. Ports 1 through 16 are unencrypted Ethernet ports. Of these, ports 1 through 8 are 10-Gigabit Ethernet and 1-Gigabit Ethernet-capable ports. Ports 17 through 20 are encryption-capable Ethernet ports.

Can i just link the Nexus 7000 like the following?

we are planning a Nexus datacenter project with this layout:Our experiences with Nexus switches are not so large until now and the manuals are very extensive. Both N5K´s should be connected directly with all 4 N2K switches. I did not find a layout like this in the manuals. Only a design, where only 2 N2K are connected to one N5K, with this fex config:Now I´m not sure if it is right to make a config like this with the same slots and fex´s or with different slots and fex´s.

I have installed DCNM 6.2(1) on red hat 5.5 64bit and installed 4 evaluation (advanced) licenses on dcnm server:
DCNM-LAN-N3K-K9-EVAL
DCNM-LAN-N5K-K9-EVAL
DCNM-SAN-N5K-K9-EVAL
DCNM-SAN-M91-K9-EVAL
Licenses are activated on a total of 31 devices (nexus 5000 and 3000 series), data is being monitored, graphics are drawn. However under the Web user interface of DCNM, under Health, Virtual Port Channels (vPC) no data is shown. Performance, vPC is also empty. No vPC errors/notifications are displayed. The installed advanced-eval licenses should support all the bells and whistles (including vPC), but still- no monitoring is done about vPC-s. vPC-s are up and active. network is discovered and monitored via snmp v2c only. could this be limiting vPC discovery- needing snmpv3/ssh access?

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

I have a question regarding netflow and NAT. I have read some documentation (on ASR1000) regarding monitoring NAT process on Cisco ASR1000 that can be done using netflow version 9 (the term was called netflow event logging a.k.a NEL). The problem is, I have not found the netflow collector that can do that. I have queried several software such as manage engine "Netflow Analyzer" and Lancope, but they said their software can not do that.
