Cisco Routers :: Additional Wireless SSID Rv220w
Nov 3, 2011
I have an rv220w router with one SSID and the product says I can add up to 4 additional wireless ssid ie the router is protected with wpa but we have guests that would like to connect to the internet while working in our building . I would like to add a guest SSID with wep security that I could give Clients. The problem I run into is every time I add the Guest ssid the wireless printers that are attached to the routers' main ssid quit working. I noticed that when the rounter was orginally set up the main SSID has IP addresses from 100 to 255 allocated. Do I need to limit the IP addresses in the Main SSID to a smaller number so that the Guest SSID can use the remaining addresses.

We have a CISCO WLAN in place with several SSIDs including one on the Voice VLAN. We need to add an additional one using CCKM due to wireless phone roaming issues. Does adding a new SSID to the WLAN cause any outage whatsoever? We are in an environment where even a small amount down time is not acceptable.
We are using two 5500 controllers with hundreds of LAP1142N

I would like to connect the AP541N to the RV220W and use the same SSID assigned to both throughout the office, for seemless client movement. I would like to keep the AP541N connected via the internet cable, as it will be on a switch which is on the same segment. The access point has many different configuration methods available, but the router appears to only have WDS as an option to connect the two devices. I would rather not use the WDS feature on the AP, as I want to utilize as much bandwidth available as possible, and I assume using that method I would need to remove the ethernet cable from the switch.
Is it as simple as configuring both devices with identical VLAN settings? I am preconfiguring the devices before installing them, as to minimize downtime, so would like to make sure the configuration is correct.

I have a RV042 with two ADSL services on it, that is a nice simple thing for this unit. The problem that I am having though is that one of the ADSL services also has a /29 attached to it.
How do you go about configuring this additional sub net? On a previous unit I have had to create IP aliases, and could then port forward and NAT without too many issues, but it doesn't appear that the RV unit seems to work the same way.

So far we add any router in the existing network simply by disabling DHCP server, and adding LAN ip for that. We don't add WAN detail at all in the additional routers. And plug one cable from main network to the LAN port of the additional routers. So we basically use that additional routers only as a access point for WIFI.But what I wonder is if it's possible for me to use the additional routers with the same feature as of the main routers i.e. Enabling DHCP server so that it too can give its own DHCP ip address.

Ive changed the IP address of a laptop to connect to the router with IP 192.168.15.1 but now want to change the router IP address from the defaul to another subnet, so that it is accessable with other workstations on the LAN, but I could not readily find the option to set the Ip address on the router.
I'm signed in with user admin.
I also wanted to add addiontal users. The help indicates there is a User List Add Entry option but from the Administration bar, the left hand menu option shows User Management & User Privileges options. On User Management, it is possible to change the 2 default user names, but I wanted to leve them and create new ones.

I am having issues where different laptops are dropping packets when communicating to the WAP on the RV220W. I have placed 3 laptops directly next to the router so there is no chance for walls to interfere. From each machine 1 at a time I perform a continuous ping. Here is a quick output from one of them:

Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64

I am using the RV220W with the latest firmware, I disabled all the four APs and also disabled the Radio, but the "Wireless" green light on the front panel still ON, why? How can I completely turn off the wireless?
Quoted from manual: WIRELESS—The Wireless light is green when the wireless module is enabled. The light is off when the wireless module is disabled.
Moreover I tried to disable the "Radio" while enabled one AP, I found that I can still connect to that AP, so what is the Radio's Enable/Disable used for?

i just setup an RV220W as my home router. Everything connected fine, etc. however, one of my wireless devices (it's a security camera) disconnects after 1 hour. I am able to reconnect the device if I either reboot it, reboot the RV220, or disable / re-enable the Port Forwarding rule I've established for it. Other wireless and wired devices do not have any issues. In the past, I had this same camera working for over two years over wireless while it was connected to a Linksys E2000 router. I enabled the logs on the RV220W last night, and the error message that I receive is: secureBit not set in GTK Msg2. I've got the same SSID on the RV220 that I had on the E2000, same port forwarding, same MAC address client list, etc. Like I said, none of my other wireless or wired devices disconnect at all, just this camera, which worked flawlessly until I switched routers.

I have a Cisco RV220W running the latest firmware (currently 1.0.4.17), and I have noticed that after about a week of use, wireless clients can no longer acquire IP addresses via DHCP.
I have used Network Monitor on both the DHCP server, and the WiFi client, and can see that the server is receiving the requests and sending a reply, but the client never sees the response from the server. So far the only way to resolve this is to reboot the router.

I just bought a RV220W. One of the features I need to setup is a daily wireless plan, i.e. parental control: my wireless connection needs to be open at different times depending on the day, for 2 specific wireless devices, while others wireless devices have continuous access. Unfortunately, the wireless schedule only lets me set up one start/stop time only (i.e. the same one every day).
I noticed that I could possibly set up a firewall access rule with a specific schedule, but I have no idea if this would work, and how to set it up. My basic idea was then to open the wireless SSID I want to control from 7.30am to 11pm every day, and then add a firewall rule that would close the access to the said devices (using their MAC address) from say 10-11pm on given days... But I am not quite sure how to set this up.

I have a RV220W with the latest firmware (1.0.2.4) and I loose about one in every 20-40 packets.
I have tried with both wireless/wired, on different ports, laptops, and Ethernet cables.
My configuration is fairly simple:
1.) I reconfigured the default subnet
2.) I setup a WAP on the same vlan (VLAN1)
3.) I setup a WAP on Vlan2 for guests
Other than that, settings are out of box (save a hostname/etc).
just purchased it, and am thinking I'll have to phone Cisco for RMA.... There is a similar thread where people noticed this on wireless (not sure if they tried wired as I have). RV220W Packet Loss over wireless

I have a Catalyst 3750 that was already configured with a minimal setup and integrated into one of our labs. The 3750 works fine and does everything we need it to for our internal wired network for that specific lab. The owners of the lab are trying to integrate an RV220W into the lab. So i am trying to set up this RV220W as just an access point as was requested. I've disabled all of the extra features on the device so it is being used as a WAP/Router. We have separated the 2 networks into separate VLAN's. VLAN 2 is used for the wireless, VLAN1 is used for the wired. The wired works great. I can connect to all devices on the cisco switch through the RV220W and vice versa.
We have tried disabling the RV220W's dhcp and using the rv220 as a dhcp relay from a server in the lab but it has the same results, so we've disabled dhcp from the lab and are using it on the rv exclusively since everything else is static.
Cisco3750 <----> RV220W <---- wireless/wired devices.
192.168.10.x for the wired network.
192.168.2.x for the wireless.
I can ping both sides of the VLAN's(If i have .10 IP, I can ping 192.168.2.1(interface for wireless VLAN on the router) when wired into the RV or plugged directly into the switch... Here it comes...
as soon as i connect the RV220w into the Catalyst switch the wireless gets EXTREMELY intermittent. The network shows up then doesn't show up in available networks. When i try to connect to it, it will time out and connect back to other available networks. As soon as i unplug the device from the switch the wireless is stable and there are no problems connecting to it.
We tried using a Dell switch instead of the Cisco to test, the wireless is stable. Wireless assign's a .2 subnet IP as it should and i can connect to everything on the Dell switch(.10 subnet) and vice versa. Also connected this device into a couple different 3750's and had the same issue. They are not heavily configured so many default settings may still be enabled.
Also tested 2 other devices on the Cisco switch, a linksys WAP and a Netgear Router. Both acted the same. I don't think it is the RV220W. I'm sure i'm missing something on the Cisco switch.

I have a RV220W operating in 2.4GHz N-only mode. Channel bandwidth is set to 20MHz, channel to 6 (a site survey shows that channel as completely clear), WPA2/AES. I am connected to a TrendNet wireless bridge. The admin page for that wireless bridge shows a link quality of 100% with a signal strength of 71%. If I select a higher channel (11), the signal strength drops to 51%.
I have a Windows 7 PC connected to the Trendnet bridge and a Windows 7 server connected to the RV220W, both via a 1Gbps LAN port. When I transfer a file from the server to the PC or vice versa, I get a lowsy 2MBps (~20Mbps) transfer rate. That seems awfully slow. I tried channel bonding from 20 to 40 MHz

I have an RV220W running firmware 1.0.4.17. I have a couple of wireless laptop users that connect to the wireless without problems, but frequently cannot access the Internet. They can always access local network resources, but for some reason when laptops are first powered up or are idle for a prolonged period of time, Internet access is lost. Wired clients never experience this problem and always maintain local network and Internet connectivity.
To get the laptops to access the Internet over wireless, we have to run a TRACERT command from the command prompt to a public IP address, and then all Internet access is restored.

I cannot find where on the Rv200W iset up the phase 1 authentication username and password which will then lead me onto the phase 2 stage of asking for a username password to allow me access.

Picked up a pair of RV220W's for a project I'm working on. I have several IP's available, 4 of which are assigned to/in use by a server behind the RV220W. All 4 of these IP's are static external IPs. How I can configure the RV220W so that requests to those 4 IP's get routed to the server.
Prior to purchasing this, I was under the impression what I was trying to do was called one-to-one NAT, but after reading the 'Help' document on the one-to-one NAT page, I don't think this is right. Emphasis added below: Cisco RV220W Wireless-N Network Security Firewall Help FirewallOne-to-One NATOne-to-one NAT is a way to make systems behind a firewall and configured with private IP addresses appear to have public IP addresses.One-to-One-NAT Rule TableThis table lists the list of available One-To-One NAT rules configured by the user. Private Range Begin: start ip address in private (LAN) ip addressPublic Range Begin: start ip address in the public ip address (WAN IP), Public IP Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask of the public IPRange Length: Range length maps one to one private address to public address up to the given range.Service: This column shows service to be accepted by LAN Host. The actions that can be taken on One-to-One-NAT rules are:(Check Box At First Column Header): Selects all the entries in the table.Add: Opens the One-To-One NAT Configuration page, to add a new entry. Edit: Opens the One-To-One NAT Configuration page, to edit the selected entry.Delete: Deletes the selected entries.
So according to their documentation, the server in question would need to be configured with a private IP. Unfortunately, one of the applications I use is licensed via IP address and my understanding is that I cannot use the software with private/non-routable IP addresses.
Is the RV220W capable of not only securing the line (firewall, access rules, content filtering, port trigering & forwarding etc) but also doing what I was hoping to do (keeping the external IP's on the server, and routing appropriately)?

I'm using a RV220W router, and recently got shifted to a dynamic IP solution. Now, I've got a no-ip.org address, but the update service seems to be on no-ip.com. So, I try to enter mydomain.no-ip.org OR mydomain.no-ip.com in the dynamic dns settings, under Host and Domain Name, but when saving the settings it says
'The hostname specified does not exist in this user account' ,which seems to indicate that it manages to login to the update service but gets a negative reply. Is it possible to use the RV220W with no-ip.org/com?

We have 2 sites connected thru 2 RV220W routers via VPN and most things are working fine. I have noticed however, that any device that has a web interface, i.e. our Sharp Copier and our Freenas server, is inaccessible. The page tries to come up but then I get the Cisco "server is down" page generated by the RV220W.
I can pull up the web interface pages if I use a machine on the local LAN but not on any machine across the VPN. The only commonality I can think of is the RV220W blocking that traffic for some reason..

Is there anyway to associate a name to an IP in the RV220W? I am coming from a WRVS4400N v2. Folks are complaining that they can't connect, for example via Real VNC, via the PC name any longer. They have to use the IP address. In the past I put the names of the PCs in the WRVS4400N when I reserved IPs via MAC addresses (some call this assigning static IPs). There isn't any place in the RV220W to put the name. Even when I look at the DHCP list a lot of them show up as "unknown". I am sure this is a NETBIOS thing but I'd rather fix this in the router as I have always done in the past.

Having a strange problem that just started this week and got worse this evening. I have a RV220W that is feeding my network. The RV220W sits behind a broadband modem and acts as the DHCP for the network and those computers access the internet that way. Anyway, tonight started an issue where the the RV220W just disappears. Becomes unpingable. I recycle power, and within anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, it's gone. No longer pingable. Even if I plug a latop directly into it.If I power cycle the RV220W it comes back and I can ping it and access it and its settings. 5 to 10 mins later, I again lose it. Nothing was done. Its been working fine for a few weeks. Had a similar outage last Tuesday, but a recycle of everything brought everything back into line. After I lose connection to it, the lights I expect to be lit remain lit.

I'm an IT professional with more than 10 years experience. I have spent last 5 days trying to figure out why the wifi connection to this router is so slow, but still no luck. I'm getting only 13Mbps even if my laptop is next to the router! (wired connection worked ok)
I have tried all sort of setting combinations, 2.4GHz/5GHz; N only/ G,N Mixed; Auto/20MHz bandwidth; different channels; WPA2 encrypted vs open; disable firewall; wmm enabled/disabled; 1.0.0.26/1.0.1.0 firmware... no matter what I try, I always get only 10 - 15Mbps speed.
Once I replace this router with my old router, it worked perfectly --- getting 70 - 80Mbps with exactly the same testing environment and configuration.
I really expect this router to offer much faster wireless speed according to this review: [URL]
