Cisco Routers :: Linksys SRW2008P Decreases Network Speed
Jun 3, 2013
I try to connect Siemens SIP IP phone to switch LinksysSRW2008P with PoE for scheme:
main switch <-------> linksys <-------> phone
I can't have access to Linksys by local network or web interface, so I connect through COM port and reboot the device and restore all settings to defaults. There was another linksys switch with the same default IP in my network, so I've tried to change ip address for my Linksys device. After that I can ping switch IP without lost packages successfully and partly access to login page by web, but including Linksys to the local network causes decreasing all network working speed, so the web administrative form can not be loading at all. In both cases (default ip or another one) the set isn't working, so I can't have access to the phone by ping or web interface. The cable to main switch inserts to port 1 and green rectangle indicator is flashing rapidly. The cable to the phone inserts to port 2 and orange indicator is lighting, green indicator is flashing slowly. Interestingly, only one port has status UP (port 1), all another port has status DOWN. If I replace cables ports with each other, only the port where cable to main switch is inserted, will have status UP. The phone station is getting power from switch in both cases. I've tried to change Spd/Dpx ports' parameters, used DHCP for getting IP, but I've gotten no result. How can I solve the problem? Is Linksys switch worked or defective?

My internet connection speed, measured by speedtest.net with PC connected directly to cable modem, is ping=33ms, dn=48Mbps and up=7.6Mbps. (These values changes slightly with each test, sometimes being a bit higher and sometimes a bit slower, but usually being in the neighborhood of the 50Mbps promised by my ISP.) When this same test is run with the PC connected directly to a port on my RV180 (firmware version 1.0.1.9) the measured speed is ping=35ms, dn=30.66Mbps and up=7.45Mbps. Given that the RV180 is supposed to provide very fast WAN to LAN throughput (Small Net Builder's test result is 798Mbps dn and 811 up, measured with the same firmware version), why is my unit seemingly decreasing the internet connection (WAN) speed coming out of my cable modem? What, if anything, can I do to increase my WAN to LAN throughput?

My download speed has decreased to about 1/40th of its previous speed, while my upload speed remains the same. Speedtest shows that my connection is equally strong as it was prior to the slowdown, even though I can't even get anything close to my original speed.Fully detailed version: About a week ago, my download speed decreased from 2 megabytes/s to about 50 kb/s. Prior to the speed decrease, I did not install or update any programs, so it's probably not an interference from some wayward program.

in the QoS-section of the SRW2008P web-interface I can choose only between Disable and Basic, Advanced mode is greyed out.
I've created a new ACL but QoS Advanced mode isn't available.
What can I do to activate it?

I recently got a new modem/router device from my ISP and its wifi is fairly weak (no external antennas) especially in my basement. Since wifi is no longer an option and I only have one ethernet connection to my basement I was thinking of using my old router to distribute the one ethernet connection to multiple devices. Connecting my one ethernet connection to the old router, and its port#1 to my PC in the basement works without any meddling, but the speed has taken a significant hit. Before the second router I was getting ~30-40Mbps from my ISP. With the second router it is reduced to ~10-20Mbps. Both routers I assume are capable of at least 100Mbps (probably even 1Gbps?). The older router is a Linksys WRT54G which can do 54Mbps wirelessly so I assume it can exceed 10-20 wired.I tried giving the second router a static IP with DHCP off, but it did not seem to make a difference. I don't know if I set it up correctly, however. The modem/router uses 192.168.0.xxx while the second uses 192. 168. 1.xxx so I do not think there is any conflicts in the DHCP.

I have 4 T1s going to a site, 2 of which are new (all 4 are with the same provider).I initially noticed that throughput of the 4xT1 bundle seemed a bit off, so I did additional testing.I found that whenever I have a certain T1 in the bundle (whether its 2xT1, 3xT1 or 4xT1), throughput is drastically decreased. There are no errors on the circuit, so my provider is being difficult about "repairing" it since they also see no errors.

Recently I upgraded my Internet speed at the ISP from 10Mbps to 25Mbps and the problem is that I am measuring only 15Mbps using [URL]On the day when the tech came out to install the new DSL modem, he noticed the difference and as part of troubleshooting, he bypassed the Linksys router and voila the net speed measured 25Mbps using speedtest.net.So, why my Linksys WRVS4400N V1.1.13 acts like a bottleneck in this case? I didn't have this problem at the speed of 10Mbps. The upload speed is OK, it is 5Mbs with or without the DSL modem.

Recently I bought a new router, the Linksys E1550, along with a new computer, an ASUS K53S.Both performed especially well for the first week I had them, along with the wireless on my old desktop computer, but now internet connection speeds slow down to a snail like pace after an hour or two.Normally I would've put it off as bandwidth being taken up by other processes, but as a relatively avid gamer I would notice my ping shooting up to 400-900 ms, which used to be around 60 ms.
Anyway, if I reboot my router my connection speed + ping go back up to normal rates, but after maybe half an hour it'll slow down, ping will be up to 200-300, and then after a longer period of time it'll takes minutes to load web pages and ping will be upwards of 500ms.I've updated my wireless adapter's drivers, etc. all to no avail. This problem doesn't exist when I'm using my laptop outside of my home network, so I think the router is the issue.

my old D-link DGL-4300 was rock steady showing 54 Mbps constant speed (link rate) (in Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit Wireless Network Connection Status window). The new E4200 jumps around from 72 Mbps to 114 Mbps to 130 Mbps to 144 Mbps. However, it mainly stays at 72 Mbps. I have seen 150 Mbps briefly but I have never seen 300 Mbps. I have even placed my laptop within 2 -3 ft of the router and have a strong signal (4 bars) but I still have the same link rate issue. I would think that Windows would show 300 Mbps link rate for my connection when it is that close to the router. My laptop is a Toshiba with an integrated Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN wireless adapter. My son also has a Toshiba laptop with the same wireless adapter but he gets lower speeds than mine due to the fact that he is 50' away in another room in the house. His connection also jumps around but it is at lower link rates than mine.

I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

I have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:
-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.

I am having a problem with my newly purchased Linksys E1000 router, I am having terribly slow network speeds while on that network.
Here are my network speeds with The e1000: (wireless) And here are the speeds with my old wrt54g: (Wireless) Here are the results directly hooked up to the modem: (wired)
I've tried setting the MTU to 1500, did a RMA with Linksys to see if it was a hardware problem, did a firmware update to the e1000, disabled DHCP and SPI, reseted my router and my modem....none of those things have worked
My ISP is comcast and I have a Arris TM502G modem

I'm attempting to daisy-chain two Linksys routers. I'm aware the easiest way would be to just buy a switch and use that in place of a second router. However, I do not own a switch and am attempting to use this as a quick fix until I find a more permanent solution.
The primary router is a wireless Linksys router with four ports, all being used. One port runs to my room, which is then connected into the Uplink of my non-wireless Linksys router. This routes to two devices. I believe I need to change the second router's IP to be outside of the DHCP range of the primary router and make it a static IP, but I cannot get to the IP for the second router in order to change the settings. I believe they are both the same default Linksys IP, and I don't want to start making changes without knowing I'm making them to the second router.

I have a Cisco WRVS4400N Gigabit Router. I recently upgraded my Internet service to 50MB download speed. When I connect directly to the cable modem and run a speed test, using speedtest.net, I get 59MB download speed consistently. When I connect the modem to the router and plug into one of the 4 ports the speed is cut in less than half. The max speed is cut to between 23-24 MB download speeds. I have tried this via wireless as well with the same result.

I recently purchased a RV120W router and I am having a problem selecting n speed under the wireless settings.
If I select B/G/N-Mixed mode then when I go to save the change I get B/G/N-Mixed B/G/N-Mixed in red letters and it does not save. If I select N only then when I go to save it says in red letters N only N only.
It does not matter if I pick 20 only or 20/40. It does not matter if I enable or disable U-APSD. It does not matter if I use the LSB or USB side.
Firmware Version:1.0.3.10 :When I got the router it had an older firmware if I remember correctly, and it would let me change to n speed.

I have an RVS4000 with the following:
Firmware Version:V1.3.3.5CPU:STAR 9202
I believe it's a v1 of the RVS4000 as I've tried to put the 2.x.x firmware and I couldn't.
My ISP upgraded me to a 100Mb/20Mb down/up plan (Quantum 100 here: URL However, through my RVS4000, I get the following speeds:
Download Speed 18498 kbps (2312.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed 19098 kbps (2387.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency 7 ms
Client Time December 4, 2011 11:06 AM
Server Time December 4, 2011 11:06 AM PST
When I connect directly to the switch rather than through my RVS4000 I get:
Download Speed 45818 kbps (5727.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed 6240 kbps (780 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency 5 ms
Clearly there's something wrong here, where I'm getting less than half the download speed through the RVS4000 than I do without it. From the datasheet, it states that the RVS4000's WAN port is a 10/100/1000 port, so I don't see why I should have the limitation on speed.

I have FiOS and their supplied wireless router Actiontec #: MI424WR. I have equipment that uses the newer N signal so I purchased a Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router. This is working great for my wireless home theater equipment but I am having problems with my wired speed. It has gone from 20 to 30 mbps to around 10 mbps. I have one of the LAN outputs on the Actiontec feeding the Linksys input, I have my computers plugged directly into the Linksys verses the Actiontec. This makes it easier to program the Linksys router. Since I am no longer using the wireless part of the Actiontec there really is no need to be plugged into it. Is there anything I can do get my speed back or will I have to plug the computer back into the Actiontec and move it every time I may need to make a change to the Linksys

I bought a new laptop today, unfortunately, it doesnt have a Firewire port and i want to use it for video editing. But i figured no problem really, i'll just capture on my desktop that i have been previously using to edit on, using Premiere pro to edit, but HDVsplit to capture, and then transfer the files over to the laptop using a USB or possibly trying to setup a home network. But when transferring files from the desktop onto the laptop via the router using ethernet cables, the speed is about 250 kb/s and when its the other way around, from the laptop to the desktop, the speed is 10 MB/s! I really need to find away to speed this up as the overall files i want to transfer are over 5GB.You can read a bit more about it here: [URL]
