Cisco Switches :: SF500-24P / Devices In VLAN Can't Get DHCP Address From Router
Oct 11, 2012
I'm trying to set up a new Cisco SF500-24P switch for our new Polycom IP phones but I'm having some trouble configuring them. It seems a fairly basic setup - We have a Cisco 2800 series router which is configured in a router-on-a-stick scenario to give DHCP addresses to two vlans, '1' for data and '20' for voice...
ip dhcp pool DHCPROUTER
network 10.10.0.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 10.10.0.1
dns-server 10.20.124.200 10.20.124.201
[cod]....
The switch worked practically straight out of the box- when I connected a PC or a phone into it they both got addresses in the 10.10.0.0 range and both worked fine. In the web interface I then set the Voice VLAN ID as 20 and as soon as I did this the phones can no longer get addresses from DHCP (although PCs can). The switch and the phone display both show that the phone is in VLAN 20. All ports are members of VLAN1(native, untagged) and VLAN 20 (tagged) and the port connecting to the router is trunked, as are the others. Also, I can ping 172.16.0.1 from the switch so there is no routing problem, although I did try using the switch as a DHCP relay to 172.16.0.1 but still no luck.I'm not sure how relevant this is but one thing I noticed is that data going to the router untagged (and therefore in VLAN 1) gets through but if I tag it with VLAN 1 then it doesn't.

I am trying to get an SF500 in to CCA for configuration. I can find the device in CCA, and it prompts for a username and password, but it doesn't accept the u/p combo. I confirmed that the combo works when tel netting to it.
I have telnet, ssh, HTTP and HTTPS enabled on the switch, but the results are the same. On the console, it tells me that the the connection has been rejected. It appears as though CCA is also trying https, as it is rejecting that stating "credentials expected to be encrypted". Is the SF500 compatible with CCA? I've found nothing online to the contrary. I am using CCA version 3.2.1.

I've came across IP address that aren't enough for some users in the company. The IP addresses are more than enough to cater to the user's notebook or PC. However, some users does not know that there are actually limits to the IP we have, so quite a number of them actually uses their mobile / pads to tap the company's wireless.
I was wondering if i could restrict that particular user from tapping onto the network. I know it sounds a bit impossible because DHCP doesnt have that smart function to block whoever we sees deemed as a "nuisance".

We connected 4 wireless access points (AP541N-E-K9) to an SG300-10P switch. We want to be sure that no wireless clients can alter settings to the network by connecting to any of the networking devices. We also want that no wireless devices (except a few) can connect to computers that are on the wired network. I'm new to configuring networking devices so how to set up the switch for this.We already added all the MAC-adresses of all the wireless devices (that are allowed to use the wireless network) to the access points.

I have a 2620 Cisco Router plugged into a 2924 Cisco switch by a trunk. The vlan configuration works, I subdivide my router interface with dot1q and have virtual machines on different vlans and everything works perfectly. The problem comes with a DHCP request.Let's say that I have my local lan on the native VLAN 1. I create a VLAN 25 in the switch and create a fa0/0.25 in the router. In the switch, I plug the cable modem from my ISP in a port on vlan 25In the router, I go to fa0/0.25 and issue "ip address dhcp".The DHCP request goes out, but never comes back. The problem seems to be in the switch because if I try the same thing with a virtual machine I have on a trunked VMWare ESXi server, I get the exact same results. I just don't get the IP address from the ISP.The next step would be to monitor the port on which the cable modem is connected and sniff the packets to see if the DHCP request actually gets back through.

I have Multiwan router with 1 port WAN and 4 DHCP Cable modem connected to SF 300-8. I want to connect 4 modem via VLAN through switch. I define Vlan2,3,4,5 on router also in Switch. port 1 on the router as trunk and the other port 2,3,4,5 as Vlan2,3,4,5 with VLAN mode Access. I tag port 1 on every VLAN also Untagged for each port. I having problem when I check the status from multiwan router. all IP address is the same (duplicate). what I want is each VLAN has own DHCP Address. Is that any miss configuration ?

I am seeing a problem with our Cisco 300 switches. We use these switches as access switches, with a stacked 3750-G at the core, two 2960-S at the distribution layer, and about 10 300 Series switches at the access layer (10 port and 28 ports, all PoE).
We use Voice VLAN (VLAN 14) for our Mitel phones – there is a DHCP server on the Mitel system. Phones come up, get tagged VLAN 14 (LLDP), Traffic flows (including Broadcast for DHCP etc…). The system works, and has worked for months.
One day, suddenly, I find that all the Mitel phones on a particular access switch are not working. I look on the Mitel system and the lease on DHCP has expired, and the phone is stuck on renewing its DHCP IP address. I run port mirroring on the switch for VLAN 14 to see what is happening. The phones are stuck on DHCP discover, and I see the DHCP Discover broadcast packets on the switch but nothing else, no DHCP offer packets – hence the phone stuck at boot cycle.
I then do a port mirror from another access switch (that is currently working) – I can see the broadcast packets from the Mitel phones on the broken switch, but on this switch I can also see the DHCP offer packets from the Mitel system. I run two port mirrors simultaneous from the two switches (one working, one not) and I can see that the DHCP offer packets are not coming through to the broken switch. Panic ensues – I look at the distribution layer and there is no problem what so ever.
For some strange reason, the Cisco 300 28 port has stopped passing DHCP broadcast packets on a particular VLAN, even though they are being sent. I power cycle the switch – and hey presto, DHCP offer packets are coming through, and the phones get an IP address and boot properly.
Forward a couple of weeks later, and to today. I have another phone that is showing the same symptoms, luckily it is the only phone on this particular Cisco 300 28 port. The same issue is occurring as described above. I gather as much diagnostic information I can then reboot the switch – but still no joy. I then remember that this switch is not directly attached to the distribution layer and instead gets trunked to another Cisco 300 28 port. I give that a reboot and 5 minutes later, DHCP broadcast offers are passing and the phone boots.
I am listing this problem as not just a ‘one off’ now, and is recurring. It has happened to two of my 300 28 port switches.
All Switches running 1.1.2.0. No link to up time – first instance of the problem, switch was up for 14 days – second instance (another switch) uptime of 39 days LLDP is working fine on the switches, as is Voice-VLAN (Port is tagged and broadcasts out DHCP Discover which is seen by other devices throughout network) Nothing in the log file on the access switch Nothing on the Dist/Core regarding STP – Spanning tree set up is fine throughout.

In our test set up, we have two WLC 5508 Controllers connected via Checkpoint UTM-1 firewall Inside and DMZ Interfaces. Both the WLC controllers are connected to the firewall via Cisco 3750 switch. On the Local (Inside) Controller, guest SSID is enabled and attached to the wireless management Interface. On the remote anchor controller, guest SSID is enabled and attached to the Management Interface as well. The following configs are replicated on both the Controllers.
SSID Name - guest
Interface - Management ( VLAN 10 on Local and VLAN 20 on remote) -
Mobility Group: Same configs at both ends
SSID Anchor : Anchor SSID on local and local SSID on Anchor.
AP: CAPWAP 3502 Management Subnet
[code]....
Is there any thing missing in the wireless configs and or the firewall rules as i could not see DHCP request back from the Anchor Controller. Also, after DHCP is obtained, the web authentication request will be redirected to an Amigopod device for authentication. In this case is the redirect URL congiguration to be performed only on the Anchor Controller or is this to be replicated on both the Local and Anchor Controllers.

I've set up a DHCP reservation on a Netgear wpn824v3 router, using its "Attached Devices" list to specify the MAC address of a computer on the network to use IP 192.168.5.200. After using "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" on the client PC, though, the client PC keeps going back to the address it got automatically, i.e., 192.168.5.3.How can I force the client to use 192.168.5.200?

Anyways, my problem is the device in my new VLAN (vlan200) are able to ping/access devices on vlan1. I do not want this to happen. I read somewhere that the 871 routes between VLAN's by default.

I keep getting some additional IP addresses logging onto my home network that have an address outside what should be allowed by the router. The server is running at 192.168.2.1 and is set to only allow clients from 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.10 so a total of 9 clients should be allowed on.The problem is that something keeps logging in with an address of 192.168.169.2 or 3 etc. Sometimes more than one device at a time.I have assumed that it is some automated or virtual client as I'm pretty certain my network has not been breached. I have a 9 character password with a relatively random alphanumeric combination, although I haven't tried changing the password (I live in a share house with with a bunch of devices using wireless, so I haven't yet bothered). What I don't understand is how it has connected with the xx.xx.169.xx range at all. I have a Belkin 'Share' Wireless N Modem Router and at some stage there was a 'guest' network but that has since been disabled and I still am seeing the extra address. I have attached a screen shot of the DHCP client list on the router. The following is a list of devices that may be on the network at times, I'm thinking one of these may be responsible for the problem:
Windows Vista Desktop - Only LAN device
PS3
Macbook
Epson wireless printer
Android HTC Desire Mobile Phone
Laptops running various Windows versions (XP, Vista and 7)
A few thoughts I had:
- the android phone is capable of running a wireless hotspot, may have to look into it to see if if has been operating as an access point into the Belkin router, but assumed this wouldn't bring up clients connected to the phone on the home router.
- The desktop has PS3 Media server installed to stream video to the PS3 over the network (not that I have ever managed to get it to work), however this is not ever open on the desktop.

My old modem from Roadrunner (Time Warner) died and the service man replaced it with a Arris TG852 modem/router. then my problems began. I would like to have the Arris modem act like a modem and not a router. The network governed by the DIR works fine but none of the clients can connect to the internet. Below are the steps I have tried.in both steps below, The DIR is connected to the Arris using the Ethernet not the Wan port.
1. I tried disabling DHCP on the Arris router and setting a static IP address for the DIR router. This worked for a bit and then quit. Some of the computers said there were duplicate IP addresses on the network. If fact the same IP address showed up in the DNS list of the Arris and the DIR routers.. even though the Arris router had DNS disabled.
2. After reading other forums. I enabled DHCP on the Arris and set it to passout IP address between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.99. I then setup the DOR to pass out addresses between 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.200. then moved the DIR into the DMZ of the Arris. Still no access to the internet.

I've got threeLinux Boxes (running Centos 6). They were all connected to my cheap WRT54GL-- DHCP worked every time.Absolutely no problems. Both the LInux boxes and the WRT54GL had MTU set to manual, 1492.I replaced the WRTt54GL with the expensive E4200. I set the new router's MTU to manual, 1492. NONE of my Linux boxes ever receive a DHCP address. I look at the logs, and they do DHCPDISCOVER, get DHCPNACK, try several different intervals, and then fail the interface and quit.ALL I did was unhook cables from the WRT54GL and plug into the E4200. Yes, the WRT54GL was powered off. NOTHING was changed in the Linux configs. Yes, DHCP is enabled, address-range assigned, etc. BTW-- one box is dual boot with Win7-- in Win7 (using the same card, obviously), DHCP works just fine. But, Linux doesn't work.
I can give the boxes static IP's, and all is well. Just can't get DHCP to work. I evfen tried putting in DHCP reservations (via MAC assignments) for the E4200-- still doesn't work. The new E4200 is on the 02 firmware (which I believe is cuurent). If I can't iron this simple task out, in a couple of days I'm taking the E4200 back, and getting a refund. I'll stay with my old WRT54GL... it works. Hate to give up on some of the new E4200 features, though.

I've tried to cascade two Linksys routers, but It hasn't worked for me. The first one (which has cable-modem connection) is the brand new E4200, and the second one is the old WRT54GCv3.[code] However, the WRT54GCv3 doesn't get the IP address from the E4200's DHCP. I've also tried to connect them directly (without the PLC), even specifing an static IP on the second router, but I got the same results.I've to state I don't want to change the first router IP/gateway parameters because I have a web and game home server working with an static IP and I don't want to put it offline temporarily because of readjusting network parameters.
