Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 - Refresh DHCP Client Table?
Jun 2, 2012I just got an EA3500 and I guess I don't understand what "Refresh" does when viewing the DHCP client table under the "Status", "Local Network" tab of the web interface, either that or it's not working. If I have active wired and wireless clients and I power off the EA3500, wait a few minutes, then power it back on, the table is blank. If I hit "Refresh" I would expect it to re-populate the table with the connected clients. For whatever reason, it doesn't. I have to physically disconnect and reconnect the E-net cable, or power cycle the wireless client to get them to reappear in the table. Is something wrong with the router or its s/w

Aug 22, 2012My EA4500 will periodically clear out the DHCP Client Table and I will lose internet access.This happens once almost every day, normally in the morning. If I can't access the internet I will check the DHCP client table under Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table and it is always empty.After I select Setup -> Reboot it will work again - when I look at the DHCP client table it is now populated with all my devices. I am on firmware version 2.0.37.

Oct 29, 2011I just purchased an E4200 router. I have four clients on my network and they are all set up for DHCP. I renewed their IPs and they all are connected. "Cisco Connect" reports that I have four clients connected. When I access the router and bring up the DHCP Client Table, there are no entries. There should be four entries. Aftern I enable the logging function, none of the logs have any data in them even after I wait for 45 minutes and use the internet and renew IPs. I am using Firmware Version: 1.0.03. I have the same results for both Chrome and Firefox. I want to be able to set Static IPs but I am hampered by the not having any clients in the DHCP client table.

Jun 5, 2012I have DHCP enabled, but I have assigned a static IP to most of my network devices.When I click on the DHCP Client Table, most of the devices are NOT shown even though I know they are connected and working.One device (a Brother printer) that I have assigned a static IP to actually shows up as having an IP from the DHCP range. A Panasonic TV does not show up at all even though it is connected and woking. I have not been able to assign a static IP to it because it does not show up.

Jan 10, 2011I upgraded to firmware version 1.0.03 I started to have this weird issue: I have four PCs connected to this wireless router via wireless G. They all run Windows 7 Home Premium. After a few hours I started to notice that the DHCP client table is empty even if all four PCs are connected to the internet. This causes a networking problem because one of the PC serves as a file server and it grants access by IP addresses. Not being able to "see" those computers, my access is denied.

Jan 31, 2011Most devices pass a client name to DHCP when requesting an IP, but some like my smartphone, do not. When a device does not pass a client name garbage is entered as the name of the client name.The first is that when you use the Web Admin pages, and select Status/Local Network/DHCP Clients, the table will not display any clients because there is an error on the page. If you right click and View Source from the browser, you will see all the client entries are there and one of them will have garbage (unprintable characters) for the client name.The second and more serious issue is that the internal DHCP table once corrupt is unstable. I've had my BEFSR41 reboot because of the corruption and then I get IP conflicts on my LAN because the DHCP starts handing out in-use IPs.I'm on hardware version 4.3 and the latest firmware Ver.2.00.4 Build 8 (which is very difficult to install without bricking the router). BTW, when I use a WRT54GL router with the smartphone, it is properly handled by the DHCP and shows a blank client name, not garbage.

May 12, 2013I tried to enter a name that included an illegal character (in this case, a single quote), and it gave me the popup box that said I had done so. When the popup closed, my DHCP reservation table was emptied out (I had maybe 5-6 reserved clients). In fact, I can't add new reservations anymore at all from this screen as it lists nothing in the DHCP clients table at the top. (Note, there are plenty of things in the DHCP Clients table over on the Status->Local Network tab). At this point, I think that my pre-existing reservations are still being held, but I'm not sure as it's only been about an hour so nothing has renewed.
I had firmware 1.0.05 when I encountered this problem. I upgraded to 1.0.07 as a means of trying to kick it into action, but the problem still exists.

Jan 11, 2012I have 2 Media Bridges, a Trendnet TEW-640MB and TrendNet TEW-680MB. Both are set as a Static IP on the devices 192.168.1.150 and 192.168.1.151. In the DHCP table for my E4200 I don't see those. I have no problem accessing them typing in those IP addresses but wondering why they don't show up in the table.Actually looking at it more closely, the devices hooked up that are active seem to show up.So I see the following below. And where is list LAN but no name those seem to be devices connected to the media bridges.

However, I've recently had a few problems that only a full power down would fix. In addition, I've noticed that the DCHP client table doesn't reset when I do a soft reboot. Is this intentional? Is the soft reboot not really a full reboot? Can it be made a real reboot?

Mar 20, 2013I have ten E4200 routers deployed in five library branches. In recent months, the E4200's in two branches have occasionally gone into a state where they are not always providing an IP address to both wired and wireless devices. Some devices will get an IP fine and others will not, The problem seems to move and the next day the same device will connect fine and others will not. A reset of the router usually clears the problem but it is becoming more frequent and bothersome. For some reason only two locations are effected.
Some notes:
- Firmware version is 1.0.02 build 13
- When I set devices up with static IP's they work fine, so the problem seems to be related to the DHCP service
- The WAN side of the network tests fine with no issues
- I've had these routers deployed for over a year and this problem just started in the past two months
- Routers and AP's are on different channels to prevent interference
- No nearby WiFi signals appear to be casuing any interference

1. DHCP client list not showing - only shows when i reboot the router. After some time, the list never shows even when i press refresh button
2. I can only reserve IP when i reboot the router - after some time i cannot do this action also

I can still access my cable modem at 192.168.100.1, but I must do a "IP Address Release" then "IP Address Renew" to get back internet access. The router works fine otherwise.

Nov 30, 2011My BEFSR81 is my primary router and has DHCP turned on. The router's DHCP range is set to accommodate 12 devices. I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

Feb 4, 2012I've been struggling to resurrect an older V1 BEFSX41, which suddenly decided to suffer continuous collisions and loss of link. Had been running for several years. I reflashed the firmware with TFTP to 1.52.16.4, and reset for 30 seconds, and re-powered. I am unable to get any response form the web UI. I can ping 192.168.1.1, and obviously push the BIN image to it, but the UI doesn't give any sign of life - not even an error - just blank.

Comcast advises me to zero out all those entries. When I make the attempt a message pops up saying the entry is invalid, and when I close the warning the entry reverts. The router is set to get its IP address automatically from the SB 5120.

Mar 13, 2011I have been reading posts on this board that state that after upgrading the firmware on a router that you must re-set the router and re-configure your connection. I have just downloaded and installed the latest firmware update for the BEFSX41 (1.52.16.4). When the installation was complete, my network connection dropped out. I then got a "searching for ip address" icon in my notification bar. The connection then completed and my network seems to be running as it should. When I check the set-up screen for the router, it shows the new firmware version. Do I still need to re-set the router? I'm a bit confused by all of this. I have Comcast cable for my isp.

Mar 19, 2011BEFSX41 Firmware Version to upgrade, version 1 or 2?
I've been using this router since 2006, upgrading the firmware to version 1.52.15 when released in 2007. At that time I think I selected the edition 1 rather than edition 2. Basing decision on the fact that the device had no indication of which model version was correct indicated on the manufacturing labels on the bottom. So I assume edition 1.
Is there any way to tell which hardware release I really have? Maybe by MAC address, or Serial number?
Have not had any problems with the 1.52.15 firmware version, however, I have seen numerous log entries for the following:
2011-03-20 11:45:23 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS2011-03-20 11:45:33 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS2011-03-20 11:45:39 ii=MAX_HTTPSESS
and

the sending URL indicated as a PRC (Chinese) university with negative traceroute results, nothing really alarming as nothing is getting inside the firewall. Just packets dropped from the senders IP. I am keeping track of the pattern and activity levels.
Will probably just block the whole addy range at the router firewall and PC firewall. AT&T is totally ineffective in blocking this sort of back alley activity.
I've seen only one brief and somewhat dated reference to the "ii=MAX_HTTPSESS" entry and will tackle that issue after updating the firmware to 1.52.16, I haven't found any authenticated tech references for this. I can only make some educated guesses on tweaking HTTP settings.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 MAC Table Missing For One VLAN
Jan 18, 2012I have one VLAN on a 3750 where I do not see any MAC addresses even though it is in use. This is an unrouted VLAN between a WLC on a port- channel /LAG and an access port to an ASA for guest traffic. When I do a show MAC add I get nothing for VLAN 60 (guest DMZ) but all other VLANs seem to be OK. Spanning tree is not showing TC counters incrementing either.
I also was told when put a port on this VLAN the laptop did not get a DHCP address form the ASA, but the wireless guest clients are working fine. I can see the DHCP leases and ARP entries in the ASA and the ASA ARP in the WLC so some traffic is passing fine. I'm not onsite right now so troubleshooting is all remote which limits some options.

Feb 27, 2013We are running LMS Prime 4.2.3 on a Softappliance. We have a Cisco Switch behind a Non Cisco Layer-3 Device. In the end host tabe we see only the MAC-Addresses of the host connected to this switch. No IP-Address. The corresponding IP-Addresses are in the ARP-Table of this non Cisco Layer-3 Device. The arp table can also be read by snmp. Is it possible to get the ip address in the UT End Host Table in such an environment?

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSX41 Firmware Upgrade Doesn't Finish
Jun 6, 2009I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of a BEFSX41 wired router from version 1.43.3 (apparently the first revision after the original realease) to 1.52.15 (the latest I found), but I can't get it to finish. I'm using a Mac with all the latest versions of OS, Safari, and Firefox. When I use Safari to initiate the upgrade, it get's to the point where it says "Please wait ! Setup will take a few minute _____" and nothing else happens after that, even after waiting 30 minutes or more. When I use Firefox it gets to the same "Please wait" message, then a few minutes later Firefox displays an error message "Connection Interrupted: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection.
