Linksys Wired Router :: BEFVP41 / DHCP - Set Static Table IPs For Security Camera DVR?
Jun 22, 2011
I have enabled DHCP but want to set static table IP's for my security camera DVR and one computer, the others can remain dynamic. I know in other routers I can attach a LAN IP to a mac address to keep it static but I can't see where I can do that with this router.

Most devices pass a client name to DHCP when requesting an IP, but some like my smartphone, do not. When a device does not pass a client name garbage is entered as the name of the client name. The first is that when you use the Web Admin pages, and select Status/Local Network/DHCP Clients, the table will not display any clients because there is an error on the page. If you right click and View Source from the browser, you will see all the client entries are there and one of them will have garbage (unprintable characters) for the client name. The second and more serious issue is that the internal DHCP table once corrupt is unstable. I've had my BEFSR41 reboot because of the corruption and then I get IP conflicts on my LAN because the DHCP starts handing out in-use IPs.I'm on hardware version 4.3 and the latest firmware Ver.2.00.4 Build 8 (which is very difficult to install without bricking the router). BTW, when I use a WRT54GL router with the smartphone, it is properly handled by the DHCP and shows a blank client name, not garbage.

On a BEFVP41, I disabled snmp for testing (because it was sending some strange alarms), and now I can't login to the web setup pages. The username and password no longer work. I thought maybe it reset itself to default (blank/admin) but it didn't.

I own a BEFVP41 v2.1. Under "access restrictions" I set days and time when access to internet it is allowed. Also applied "Website Blocking by URL Address" and "Website Blocking by Keyword" however some users are now getting access to the internet. I must also mention this settings: Firewall protection it is enable. Router DHCP it is disable and we use static IP address for the PC´S so I established IP range to apply the restrictions. I also try blocking with MAC address of the PC's.Everything else it has default settings. Internet wire goes first to the router and then to the LAN switch. What am I missing?

My BEFSR81 is my primary router and has DHCP turned on. The router's DHCP range is set to accommodate 12 devices. I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

I tried to enter a name that included an illegal character (in this case, a single quote), and it gave me the popup box that said I had done so. When the popup closed, my DHCP reservation table was emptied out (I had maybe 5-6 reserved clients). In fact, I can't add new reservations anymore at all from this screen as it lists nothing in the DHCP clients table at the top. (Note, there are plenty of things in the DHCP Clients table over on the Status->Local Network tab). At this point, I think that my pre-existing reservations are still being held, but I'm not sure as it's only been about an hour so nothing has renewed.
I had firmware 1.0.05 when I encountered this problem. I upgraded to 1.0.07 as a means of trying to kick it into action, but the problem still exists.

I just got an EA3500 and I guess I don't understand what "Refresh" does when viewing the DHCP client table under the "Status", "Local Network" tab of the web interface, either that or it's not working. If I have active wired and wireless clients and I power off the EA3500, wait a few minutes, then power it back on, the table is blank. If I hit "Refresh" I would expect it to re-populate the table with the connected clients. For whatever reason, it doesn't. I have to physically disconnect and reconnect the E-net cable, or power cycle the wireless client to get them to reappear in the table. Is something wrong with the router or its s/w

My EA4500 will periodically clear out the DHCP Client Table and I will lose internet access. This happens once almost every day, normally in the morning. If I can't access the internet I will check the DHCP client table under Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table and it is always empty. After I select Setup -> Reboot it will work again - when I look at the DHCP client table it is now populated with all my devices. I am on firmware version 2.0.37.

I just purchased an E4200 router. I have four clients on my network and they are all set up for DHCP. I renewed their IPs and they all are connected. "Cisco Connect" reports that I have four clients connected. When I access the router and bring up the DHCP Client Table, there are no entries. There should be four entries. Aftern I enable the logging function, none of the logs have any data in them even after I wait for 45 minutes and use the internet and renew IPs. I am using Firmware Version: 1.0.03. I have the same results for both Chrome and Firefox. I want to be able to set Static IPs but I am hampered by the not having any clients in the DHCP client table.

I have DHCP enabled, but I have assigned a static IP to most of my network devices. When I click on the DHCP Client Table, most of the devices are NOT shown even though I know they are connected and working. One device (a Brother printer) that I have assigned a static IP to actually shows up as having an IP from the DHCP range. A Panasonic TV does not show up at all even though it is connected and woking. I have not been able to assign a static IP to it because it does not show up.

My E3200 has been clearing it's DHCP table at random times. When it's been cleared the router starts handing out duplicate addresses. It's running the latest (1.0.02 build 9 Sep 1, 2011) firmware and otherwise seems to be working fine.

I have 2 Media Bridges, a Trendnet TEW-640MB and TrendNet TEW-680MB. Both are set as a Static IP on the devices 192.168.1.150 and 192.168.1.151. In the DHCP table for my E4200 I don't see those. I have no problem accessing them typing in those IP addresses but wondering why they don't show up in the table.Actually looking at it more closely, the devices hooked up that are active seem to show up.So I see the following below. And where is list LAN but no name those seem to be devices connected to the media bridges.

I upgraded to firmware version 1.0.03 I started to have this weird issue: I have four PCs connected to this wireless router via wireless G. They all run Windows 7 Home Premium. After a few hours I started to notice that the DHCP client table is empty even if all four PCs are connected to the internet. This causes a networking problem because one of the PC serves as a file server and it grants access by IP addresses. Not being able to "see" those computers, my access is denied.

I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.

I just bought an e4200. I was using a LinkSys WRT54GS running DD-WRT alternative firmware.
One feature that I really liked in DD-WRT was the ability to assign static IP leases from the DHCP server. I liked having all of my devices running with a predictable, known IP address on my network. I have a Home Theater PC, and various controller applications that run on iPhones, etc. - some pretty homebrewed. Configuring the firewalls, etc. was much easier with IP address based controls.
Is there a way to achieve the same within the e4200's stock firmware?

I'm following a tutorial that 'dumbs down' the modem and lets me use the router for everything.
It asks me to set up a static LAN IP (10.x.x.x range) and edit the DHCP pool of the router. When I'm logged in to the routers admin, it doesn't seem I'm able to do any of this.
Earlier in the tutorial it also asked me to set up a static IP for the router, which I did I suppose.
I've added a screenshot of the admin panel, in case that's relevant.

I have an RVS4000 located at my office. A user of mine also has one at their house. We have created an IPSec Tunnel between the 2 of them and have them successfully communicating between the 2 networks with no problem.
The problem I have is if I make a change on their end and the router needs to reboot to apply the changes, the WAN port never renews it's DHCP address. The end user must unplug the unit, plug it back in and then the system comes back up with the correct WAN DHCP address, and the tunnel is connected automatically.
I beleive they have the newest firmware (2.0.0.3) but I cannot confirm that right now as the unit is down. I bought the 2 of them at the same time - my unit at the office has the 2.0.0.3 firmware so I am assuming the users does as well.

We have a Network set up with a RV042 router. Router is hooked up to Cox Cable and ATT DSL. Currently have 20 computers hooked up to the router all using Static IP addresses. Setup has been in place for over 7 years. I want to set up a Wireless Access point on this network. The problem is, I can't seem to get DHCP to work right even WITHOUT the Wireless Access Point. I have taken one of the computers that works great with a static IP and changed it to be DHCP, I have enabled DHCP on the router and set the from and thru parameters for the IP assignment. The computer will connect and get an IP address and it allows me to see all the INTERNAL servers on the network but going to the Internet is REAL FLAKY. I usually have to refresh 5 or 6 times to get a web page and sometimes even that don't work. If I do get a page to come up there is about a 10% chance that it will bring up a subpage of that page without doing a refresh 5 or 6 times. Its like it won't hold the connection to the Internet. I did notice one thing different in the User Manual of the RV042 that is different than all the other Linksys routers I have worked with. It says that when you enable the DHCP on the router, you then make sure ALL computers hooked to it are set for DHCP. All other routers I have worked with do NOT use that word ALL. Am I missing some setting or is this a binding thing where you are either ALL static or ALL DHCP?

I have a BEFSR41v2 and have since upgraded to a wireless router. I now need a hub and have read that I can disable the DHCP in the BEFSR41 and use it as a hub. If I understand what I've read, I hook the cable running from my current wireless router into the uplink port on the BEFSR41 and then have the 4 ports available for expansion without using the WAN port - does this sound correct? Also - should I have the router (now configured as a hub) set to obtain the IP address automatically, set a static IP address or what? Finally - the firmware is the original firmware 1.42.7 (April 2, 2002) and I've read where people have problems after updating the firmware.

a couple days ago my BEFSR41 started making trouble, and so far I have not been able to get it working properly again. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem everything works fine, and I get an IP address via DHCP. When I connect through the router, though, the router status shows 0.0.0.0 for all DNS, gateway, etc. addresses, and even pressing DHCP Release/Renew doesn't change that. Also, in the log I see these messages:
2012-08-08 20:30:41 warning DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response
2012-08-08 08:30:52 notice TLV-11 - unrecognized OID
Since I can connect to the cable modem directly, it seems the cable modem is not at fault. My overall setup is:
- BEFCMU10 cable modem
- BEFSR41 (not sure which version, but I believe it's a 4.x)
- WAP54G
Could it be that my provider (Cox Communications) has changed some configuration in their DHCP server, and my laptop (MacBook Pro) can handle it, but the router cannot?
