Cisco Switching/Routing :: Native VLan Between 2960S And 4507 With VRF-Lite?
Jan 4, 2012We are trying to setup a new configuration with 2960S as access switchs and a 4507 as a core switch.I want to protect the management IP VLAN of the swich using vrf on the 4507 so we :
SHUT VLAN 1 on every switch (2960 + 4507)
CREATE A NEW VLAN 289 (management vlan) -> IP network : 10.32.126.192/26
L3 VLAN on every switch
VLAN 289 in the VRF XXX on the 4507
create tunk between the switch and the 4507 :
switch mode trunk allowed vlan 200-230
sw trunk native vlan 289
so with this configuration on the 2960 the vlan 289 is UP/DOWN and UP/UP on the 4507 I can access to the 4507 using the IP in the VLAN 289 but i cannot access to the 2960 behind the 4507 CDP connectivity is ok?

Sep 21, 2012I have a problem with extending the LAN on a client site . They are looking to extend the LAN with a 2960S-series switch. Already in place is a 4510 switch which the 2960 is connected to via fibre. The 2 switches are both set up but there is no connectivity as I cant ping between them or anything. The management VLAN on the 2960 shows line up, protocol down, which I believe means the VLAN is enabled but there is a form of physical mismtach on the ports. I have attached the configs of both switches. I feel it might be a problem with GBIC module compatibility. The SFP installed on both ends of the switch are GLC-SX-MMD. On the 4510, the SFP sits in a twingig converter (CVR-X2-SFP) but there is no light on it at all when the cables are plugged in.

Jan 26, 2013I have a 2960 SI lan lite switch that I am configuring for admin and guest access. I have wireless AP's plugged into trunked ports 2 and 3. I am using two vlan's (in addition to the native VLAN). Vlan 5 for Admin and Vlan 10 for guest access. I have ACL configured on the router preventing guest users from accessing the Admin network. I want to prevent those on the guest network from seeing other hosts in the vlan however the lan lite software does not support port ACL's. Any way to accomplish this with this switch.

May 4, 2012I am trying to “build up” a small home-network and using some of following Cisco equipment’s
ASA 5505 v8.4.3 witch base licenseCisco Catalyst 3750G with ipservices version 15.0.xand 1 qty of AP1142N I am not able to get internet access from any VRF’s.
From "MILAN (LAN) VRF, I am able to ping my gw: 10.45.45.1 but I am not able to ping for example: “linknett VRF”.
It seems that i am missing some NAT rules on ASA or ?
If i connect my laptop directly to the ASA, i am able to get internet access!
I am not feeling comfortable with a new ASA 8.4 code yet, so im not so sure which exact code's i am missing on ASA ...

1) How can I do this...(Should follow the same process as I did before.
2) Could I do this without impacting the service. i.e. without rebooting the switch.
3) What should be the connection archiecture as of now since there is two switch so it is connected 1 -1 and 2-2. but for 3 switch should we require to change the connectivity.

these switch are connected to a CAT4500, I know that I can only use LACP because of cross-stack but when I force the switch to use LACP witch channel-group 2 Mode active the switch do this :

Sep 23, 2012I have a live 28port Catalyst 2960S switch. By live I mean that there is an essential piece of equipment plugged into this switch that can suffer little to no downtime. Over the course of time the number of devices patched into this location has increased to exceed the 24 ports available and we have had to resort to adding unmanaged switches to fill the need. We have acquired an additional 2960 & stacking modules that I would like to stack together, keeping the existing switch as the master. It is my understanding that the stacking modules are hot-swappable and that this member switch can be added without bringing the master switch down, thus creating zero down time for the financial server that is connected.
The steps I believe that need to be followed are as such: write mem to existing switch and backup to our TFTP serverinstall the stack module in the existing (while powered up) and new (while powered down)place the 2 redundant FlexStack link cables on both switchesthen simply power the member switch on After boot the member switch will get it's OS and configuration from the master and I can begin moving CAT5 cables from the unmanaged switches to the stack.

Feb 17, 2013We need to give differentiated internet access to three VLANs. Each one of this VLANs is used for totally different purposes, so traffic between the VLANs is not allowed. Each VLAN has its own internet access provided for the data center using one fast ethernet connection.
We're thinking about using cisco 2911 for Internet access, VPN and firewall. I suppose that best option for VLANs is using Catalyst 2960S or a swithing module for the 2911, but these two options are too expensive for us. We're thinking about using swtiches from the SB series (maybe a SG-200).
We're totaly newbies to VLANs so we have many doubts. This are our questions:
1) The 2911 has three on board ethernet interfaces; we have three VLANs and three internet connections, so we need to use HWICs to get three more ethernet ports. That's right?
2) We need three HWICs or there is some kind of HWIC with more that one ethernet interface?
3) The routing solution is to assign static routes in the 2911 for each interface connected to a VLAN through a 2911's interface connected to internet?
4) Simply connecting three different router interfaces with three different switch ports, each one of them assigned to one of the three different VLAN, are we going to get internet access for all devices in those VLANs? or do we need to configure something else like trunking, VSIs...?
5) Can we achieve our goals using the SG-200 switch?
6) We have the chance to use older routers, is this possible? We're specially interested in knowing if a 1841 or a 2801 router could be used for this setup.
7) This is not a production environment so we can use refurbished equipment.

Jul 18, 2012A quick one because I'm scratching my head trying to figure the difference between the 2960 LAN Base and LAN Lite IOS installs. I want to put a 2960 into a site which has as layer 2 link on dark fiber taking it elsewhere. This part I'm not concerned about - the WS-C2960--24TC will do what I need without issue - but I don't know if I can get away with LAN Lite, or if I need LAN Base.
I basically need V LAN's with associated SVI's, and a routed link on the up link port (I don't care if it's a switch port with an associated SVI or a no switch port and IP address), but it's got to be able to run OSPF. Can I do this with LAN base on this series switch? Or do I need to go for a higher series (3560?). I *could* get away with static routes, but my boss is walking death on them unless I can 100% prove they're necessary, so I'd rather not right that fight!

Aug 28, 2012I have a 6509-E chassis that was prevoius in a VSS configuration. Due to some VSL failures I had to cobvert it to a standalone chassis but would like to bring it back to a virtual system.
Whenever I try to convert it by using the command "switch convert mode virtual" I get the msg %Please configure local switch number first". After doing so by entering the CLI cmd "switch set switch_num 1 local" I still get the same message.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: Unable To Mange 500 Catalyst Switch
Jun 8, 2013I have inhereted a network in a school that is using a Cisco Catalyst 500 series switch. Previously, it appears that this switch was never managed (just plugged in and using it's default configuration). I am trying to change that and be able to control the switch using the Network Assistant or just the web-based device manager. I understand that you cannot perform the initial configuration with anything past Windows XP, because the broadcast flag setting past XP causes an issue where the IP address of the management computer is assigned but not the default gateway. Despite this, I am still unable to connect to the switch for management purposes. Here is a list of the steps I have taken, all of which have been unsuccessful:
1) I tried using a computer running Windows XP. The same issue occurred. It was assigned an IP address from the switch but did not get a default gateway. It was unable to access what should have been the default IP of the switch; 169.254.0.1
2) I tried it in Windows Vista by editing the registry to turn broadcasting off. It still did not work.
3) I tried it in Windows 7. Still no luck.
4) In all 3 operating systems, I tried using the "Advanced" setting in the TCP/IP configuration to add a default gateway of 169.254.0.1 to no avail.

Oct 30, 2011I have configured a new switch 3560 switch and connected to 4500 switch and formed a trunk connectivity.Now the issue i am facing is when i do a SH CDP NEIGHBOUR from 3560 switch i am able so see 4500 swries switch but at the same time when i do SH CDP NEIGHBOUR form 4500 series switch i am not able to see the entry for 3560 switch.But i am able to telnet the new switch with out any issues
