Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3000 Setting Up Ethernet Network Of Rockwell Stratix Switches
Nov 13, 2011
I'm setting up an Ethernet network of Rockwell Stratix switches (badged Cisco 3000 series with extra firmware) and need a switch to obtain a gigabit port to a server as the Stratix switches only have 2 gigabit ports per switch and the network is in a ring. The Ethernet ring is in fibre and I would want copper to the server. The switch would need REP (Resilient Ethernet Protocol) to be compatable with the Stratix set up. Is the ME 3400G-2CS AC a workable option?

I would like to configure Ethernet jumbo frame setting in a C6509E switch with WS-X6548-GE-TX and WS-X6516A-GBIC port modules, and IOS 12.2(33)SXJ1. whether any of these modules can support jumbo ethernet frames up to 9000 per port bases. Also, if none of these modules support port-based jumbo frame MTU then would the switch allow jumbo frames on Ethernet trunks from an access switch (say a C3560)?

I'm trying to get some clarity on power stacking 3750X switches. I have a new stack of 6 switches. I know I can only have 4 in a power stack and all 6 in the data stack with a max of 8. I'm trying to find the proper way to connect the power stack cables for the 4 switch power stack.

I have a lot microbursts in my network and i looking 10G switches with big buffers. Which models have biggest buffers ? I think about 1-2U (nax 4U) switch with up to 60-100 10G ports. Something like nexus 3064 (he has only 9MB shared buffers AFAIK). Besides deep buffers i need also:
- trill or another ethernet ring topology like erps,eapsv2,
- Multi chassis LAG,
- virtual routers, policy routing
- dcb
- 40G interfaces will be plus

I'm trying to spec out some switches in our industrial environment. I only have single mode fibre to deal with. I'm curious if a IEM-3000-8FM module will connect to a 100LX SFP using a single mode fibre. I know the IEM-3000-8FM module is 100FX for multi-mode fibre. I know they both use 1310nm wave length but i'm not sure if they will work together?

I'm currently setting up two VPN 3000 Concentrators at two different sites to create a IPsec LAN-to-LAN Tunnel. I have gone through all the basic configuration guides on the CISCO site, but a LAN-to-LAN session is never created. I have enabled the logs on the Concentrator and it displays no errors at all - it appears the Concentrator is not even trying to establish a IPsec LAN-to-LAN Tunnel. After running through the standard setup provided by CISCO, is there anything I need to do to make the Concentrator try to create a Tunnel, or should this be automatic once all settings are in place?

I am a soon to be network admin and have never set up a network to an existing network. Steps you need to add a new location to a company's network. For example if they are using 8 Building with 7600 Routers and 6500 and you need another building and they are using MPLS or Private Network, or Internet.

A question concerning the use of REP for IE-3000-4TC switches:
In figure 14 of REP pdf URL can you explain why this creates a loop in the system? From the document, I thought REP and RSTP could talk to each other so why does this create a loop if they are exchanging information between each other? Also, if, in figure 14, the two switches in the STP domain that connect to the REP ring, were also connected to each other, would there still be a loop in the system?
Also, what is the recommended max diameter a REP ring should be. I thought I read some place 130 nodes is ok, but I'm looking to confirm this.

I curently have 2 Data centers connected with a Metro Ethernet Connection. Each Data Center has 6500 with Sup720s. The Metro Ethernet connection is currently conected by a L3 routed interface. I now need to enable VRFs between the locations and want to determine the best way to adjust the Mero. I was considering adjusting the routed interface to use Ethernet sub-interfaces. Each VRF would be given a different subinterface over the Metro Ethernet connection. I have done this on internal LAN connections but am concerned about exteding across data centers over Metro E.

I have a 4-port Netgear modem/router (DG834), and need to distribute its Internet connection according to the following criteria:
1.There are 11 access points (3 wired, 8 wireless) across 4 floors of a building - all cabling is from a central point, which will connect through a switch.Cat 5e cabling is in place.
2.The wireless points need Power over Ethernet connections
3.The 4 router ports serve 2 PC's and a printer in an office, the fourth being the connection to the switch.
4.There must be network separation so that:
- all points have Internet access
- there are three separate groups - one for the office, one for staff (wired) and one for guests (the wireless points), the purpose being to ensure that no user in one group can access any user's device in the other 2 groups. I'm assuming VLAN is the method for this.
5.Traffic on the network is likely to be fairly low casual use of the wireless ports, the office PC's only being used for Internet access and email no transactional systems, large databases or other resource / network-intensive functions.
1.Both the Netgear FS726TP and GS724TP look as if they will do what I want, using WNAP210 wireless access points. Could I achieve the same outcome with 2 x GS108PE switches? Any other hardware recommendations?
2.Do I need any additional hardware?
3.Are there any other considerations I have not thought of?

I have recently purchased 2 SG 300 switches, 1 x SG 300 52 & 1 x SG 300 10, and I am hoping getting the following set-up working. To assist I have drawn the following simple network diagram (below) which hopefully makes it a little clearer what I am trying to do:I have 2 companies occupying a single office with the requirement to share printers/devices etc... so basically I am looking to set-up 2 VLANS (say VLAN 10 & VLAN 20) with inter-vlan routing. To add a little complexity the main comms area is located in the basement of the building, this houses the 2 DSL routers and 2 Servers, one for each company. I am proposing putting the SG 300 10 port switch in here and then use the 3 uplinks I have been given to connect back to the SG 300 52 which is in a patch cabinent 2 floors up. I want to use 2 uplinks (in a LAG) for Company A and 1 uplink for Company B. FYI. DHCP is being served out by each respective router.

we have three separated network segments going to one Cisco 3750 switch all is L2 .. from this switch is 100 mbit uplink.we need to apply some Qos mechanism not to saturate line by traffic from one network.. Configuration from various reason CANNOT be done on switch where 100Mbit line is terminated.. so all must be done on SW1,2,3..Correct me if iam wrond but as switches doesnt see traffic from other network iam affraid only think we can do is limit bandwidth on links going into SW1,2,3 to 33 Mbit.I found commad srr-queue bandwidth limit. But links going to SWs are 1Gbit so if i force bandwidth to 10% (minimum what command allows) its 100 Mbit..If I force speed on those links to 100Mbit and than apply srr-queue bandwidth limit to 30% doest it work.??. Will srr-queue bandwidth limit speed to 30Mbit?? Or srr-queue bandwidth limit is calculated from maxim speed of interface?

I have a question for Cisco Cat.2960-s Flex Stack switches which are installing on our sties. Two of 2960-s Stack switches as access switch and two of Cisco ME 3600X Series as distribution layer switches are to be installed in our sites. In case of two stack switches, One is will be a Master and the other one will be a member logically, as you know. So, if the master fails, the other one automatically becomes the stack master following a well-documented election process.
Now, it is my question. How long takes to be a stack master from a member switch ? I cant find it on white paper of Cat.2960-s flex stack .
And also, I heard that sometimes a member switches don't election process when the master fails as a result, all stack members become
a panic. Is that really right ? In addition, I heard that the stack switches have many troubleshooting points than stand alone switches.
I really wanna know if the stack switches are good solution for resilience of huge network site. I'm waiting an answer from those who have experience of maintenance or installation.

You can also print to the wireless printer in that room via that wifi modem being local. However, I can no longer print to the wifi printer from anywhere else in my network (I could before I got a new router and wifi modem in there).Would this be a problem with this Switch or with the modem e.g.

We got a layer3 switched network, with one vlan for every switch, routed by a cat4006. [code] So can we put some ports on different switches in, let`s say vlan 50, with different ips? For example, Port 0/3 on Switch 1 and 0/8 on Switch 2, but keeping the ip of the "old" vlan? Or is it necessary to configure a specified vlan interface with ip-adress for every vlan if i want to route it?

If I have two stackable switches one switch uplinks to one 6509 core switch and the other connection uplinks to another 6509 core switch, and also the other stackable switch does not connect to the core switches. Because I am using hsrp and also we are not using vss then one uplink to the core is not in used only ones is so then how does creating an etherchannel between does two uplinks to both core switches benefit me in anyway such as more bandwith and using both uplinks at the same time or I'm I wrong?

It is understood that sub-50 ms ERPS convergence can be achieved with certain HW/SW combinations.
1) What are the platforms supported (and with what FW/SW) has this been tested ?any results that can be shared?
2) Link failure detection in GigE on Copper is slower compared to GigE over "pure" Fibre; so no sub-50ms would be possible with Copper ring ports.is sub-50ms convergence achievable with "combo SFP ports" ?

I'm having a little trouble setting up NTP on our new Nexus 3064s. We are using a local Meinberg M300 as our server and the Nexus 3064 as a client. Before I submitted a TAC I was wondering if the community would mind double checking what I have. One major issue I've come across is that the Nexus 3064 will only take a 8 character NTP passphrase. We normally use a 32 char MD5 string. I setup a new 8 char passphrase on our Meinberg M300. I am not using fabric extenders or distribution to other Nexuses. I am using an interface vlan as our management interface per our current network setup. I am using a VRF. We use some public IPs so all IPs are xxx'ed out. [code]

The question is: Will a 3750 switch route Jumbo frame sizes (e.g. 9000 MTU)?
We know that we can change the System MTU to 9000, and someone on a previous thread said that we can change the Routing MTU to 9000 as well, although I couldn't figure out how to do that. However, regardless of how we configure the System MTU and Routing MTU, I don't think we're able to adjust the MTU on L3 VLAN interfaces, so if we want to actually "route" between VLANs on the switch, we're limited to 1500 MTU.
Our situation is that we have a customer connecting to our 3750 switch, and this customer wants to use Jumbo frames. The customer connects to our 3750 switch via their own VLAN, with their own L3 VLAN interface configured on the switch. The customer will point their traffic towards the L3 VLAN interface, then we want to route them onto another VLAN, via a different L3 VLAN interface, before forwarding their traffic. Because of the limitations noted above, specificially regarding the routing between these VLANs via L3 interfaces, I do not think we'll be able to support 9000 MTU frames on this 3750 switch. I think the L3 VLAN interfaces will limit us to 1500 MTU, regardless of what we configured via the global System MTU and Routing MTU settings.

I have tried to reset the switch to factory defaults and it still doesn't work. The switch is currently connected to a 3560G and has been assigned an IP. If I try to access it from Network assistant it shows as unmanaged and I get prompted for a username and password. The switch is connected to another new 2960-S via a FlowStack module.
