Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4507 - Dot1q Encapsulation Option Not Showing Up Under Interface

I am trying to configure a 4507 R chassis with Dual SUP but i cannot see teh switchpot mode trunk encapsulation dot1q?
I have typed:
interface GigabitEthernet5/1
description DOWNLINK toxxxxxx
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 11 mode on
!
I have have searched all other commands and sub-commands but could only find dot1q-tunnel which I beleive is for QINQ or some QoS featues and lot for L2 encapsulations?
the puzzling is:
XXX-Core4507#sh int gi5/1 trunk
Port Mode Encapsulation Status Native vlan
Gi5/1 off 802.1q notrnk-bndl 1
(Po11)
when I connect the dostribution switch a 3507 to this int gi 5/1, both interfaces do come up?

enable dot1q encapsulation on two ethernet ports on a 1721 router. I am able to configure it on the built in fastethernet port, but not on any interface provided by a WIC-1ENET or a WIC-4ESW. I have an application that requires two physical ethernet ports that support dot1q encapsulation.

I have a Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500e UNIVERSAL-M), Version 03.02.00.XO RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2). So I just wanted to verify that the switch only does dot1q encapsulation because the switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q command does not work.

I'm setting up a new 4900m running cat4500e-ipbase-mz.122-53.SG5.bin. I'm attempting to create Port-Channels as a Trunk for uplink to a 4503 running cat4500-ipbase-mz.122-37.SG1.bin.When I attempt the command "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" it errors out.

I am trying to config a 2620 Cisco router to perform subintreface (F0/0.1) for Vlan Trunk Protocol, however when I try to configure the encapsulation dot1q, I continue to receive error massage with ^ symbol below the 'c' See below, the platform version is a 12.3(26) which should be acceptable to perform an (encapsulation dot1q). The Ethernet is a fast-Ethernet 10/100 port. I also try the ISL, I receive the same massage.

Is there a way I can find out the amount of bandwidth i'm using on a particular interface on a 4507 cisco multi-layer switch? It is a gig port and I have it setup for monitoring (spanning) and I see packets being dropped in the "Total Output Drops" area. To me it looks like it must be exceeding the 1gig limit but I don't know a way to check to make sure. I also have the queueing strategy set to FIFO.

We have 3 Cat 4500 switches on three floors teh 3rd floor switch connects to the 2nd and 4th floor switches ,but we are receiving an alert from monitoring tool that " Interface(314) Backup-1Gb-Ring is Down at least 2 min on Switch: SOM500-4510-3FL the following output from "sh int status module 1 " shows the int 1/3 and 1/4 are 'inactive'local IT guy said If the status is inactive,the ports cannot be used and might lost the capability when he added 48-port blade into the 10th slot.

I'm currently working on a plan to migrate our 6500's over to our new 7010's. At the time of the migration I want to tighten up our OSPF design and configure OSPF for "passive-interface default" then allow only those interfaces that should have OSPF neighbors to send the hellos. The issue is that the command is not showing up under the OSPF process. What's even more interesting is that the Nexus 5.x Unicast Routing Configuration Guide shows that the "passive-interface default" command should be an option to enter.
I'm currently running version 5.1(4) (though looking to upgrade to 5.2 during my migration testing). I would rather configure the passive-interface via the routing process versus having to enter it on every interface.

Is it possible to do dot1q-tunneling on the new Cisco Calalyst 2960 Compact series switches? I know that the 3560 series support it, but im unable to find any information about the 2960C series, personally i doubt it as the standard 2960 series don't support it.

If you have a router with multiple direct vanilla FE (non trunked) interfaces on a switch trying to send QOS tagged packets to a wifi bridge several switches away does the trunking in the switched infrastructure mess with the qos tags if no qos is configured on the switches.
Does it depend on the switch? We have new 2960's running 12.2 and a few older 2950's running 12.1

In fact i receive traffic on a one client per vlan basis (traffic is PPPoE), i receive all this traffic on a router, collecting all these vlan on a bridge where the pppoe packets are treated.When I use a transeiver to convert operator fiber arrival to my router copper media interface, i have no problem....
When I use dot1q-tunnel to make the same on my 3750, packets seems to be corrupted.I get PPPoE timeouts and packet loss, not regulary, totally stochastic...
I made dozen of tests and different settings, without success I first thougt of MTU issues. [code] I made tests with system MTU and/or system jumbo MTU above 1500, without success.I didn't found any known caveats on 3750 running Version 12.2(25r)SEE4 related to dot1q-tunnel.

i m configuring a 887 router for ssl vpn. The goal is to configure full tunnel mode, so the client connect to the webpage generated by the router, it logs in, it has the "application svc" window where you can download the client and connect. Problem is everything is working except for the fact that the window with the ssl application doesn show up at all and so clients can't download the client and connect.

My laptop is not showing the option to connect wirelessly . i was using the internet wirelessly two days ago but now the only option that shows up is connect via broadband ethernet cable. if i go to the control panel and open network and sharing center and i pick connect to the internet the only option i get is broadband. and if i click show a list of options i dont have it only shows dial up connections

I am having a Cisco 4507 switch. The CPU on the switch is running between 50% to 60% constantly. To troubleshoot I collected some logs using debugs & show commands.

SSH has been enabled on our one and only 4507 switch for several months and working fine. A few weeks ago the switch had to be reloaded and when it was back online I couldn't SSH to it. When I connected via the console and typed "show ip ssh" it came back saying I needed to generate the keys. Did that and it starting working again. The same switch had to turned off and on the other day due to a power down in the server room and when it came back the same thing happened again!!

QoS design problem that I have. I have a client that is deploying new 4507 series switches with SUP6Es. The client will be running lots of voice, streaming video, and video conferencing over the LAN and want to base QoS on Cisco Media net recommendations.
I need to design a new QoS policy with focus on the above media services with basic queuing for critical data services. I have read the Media net design guide and the suggested 12-class model will be too complex to start with but I have seen references to start with a 8-class model with the ability to easily migrate to 12-class in the future. The 8-class model meets all of our requirements but I need to understand how this will work with the 4507 queuing model? [URL]

we have a core switch 4507RE at the data center and 2 departments that connect to it via 10Gig fiber using X2-LRM modules. Each department has a 3 switch stack and both locations are identical w.r.t type and setup scenario.the stack comprises of 1 x 3750E and 2 x 3750G . uplink is from X2 port tengig3/0/1 from the 3750E switch.
All of a sudden dept B started facing problem , where the ping would break and throughput comes around 6 - 7 mbps from that dept to the server behind the core switch. we also noted CRC error on both sides preodically.
we replaced the multimode fiber patch cords, re did the splicing , which stopped the CRC errors to appear.now since morning the uplink port on the 3750E (3/0/1) would suddenly be in "down" state with (err-disabled) as the status when i run sh int ten 3/0/1
and i can also see CRC errors and input errors on the same interface.. if i do shut / no shut .. the port is up and active again.. but this has happned 3 times today.the core swith side is still OK and no CRC / input / output errors are seen..
now on the 3750E i have swapped the 10gig module from 3/0/1 to 3/0/2 . the port is still up but i can see 400 CRC and 500 Input errrors.the module is also OK as i had replaced it with dept 1's module.
