Cisco Switching/Routing :: Cat6509 Switches With VSS Capable Sups
Nov 24, 2011I currently have 2 Cat6509 switches with VSS Capable Sups. One of the switches has an extra 10Gig Lincard. Will VSS still work in this scenerio?/?

View 2 RepliesIs L3 ip routing on by default in 3550s? If so is the "ip routing" command visible in the config file? If no - I assume that one would enable L3 routing with that config command. In general terms are there any IOS devices where ip routing is enabled and one would not see the "ip routing" command in config. I.E. if that command is not visible in the config could you assume there is no L3 capablity in that device?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3560's in my current environment, operating in the core/distro/access layers. The switches are in a star configuration, performs only layer 2 switching, and utilizes copper (no plans on moving to fiber).
With a fairly limited budget, I've been contemplating on upgrading the central node to a stacked 3750X to eliminate that single point of failure, and trunk the rest of the 3560's to the stacked switch. I wanted to be sure that the 3750X switches will be right for my environment (90-100 hosts), and if what I explained above is a good solution.
I'm also looking like to upgrade 6-7 of my servers (and SAN) with 10GB network cards. Do the ports on the 3750X have port densities capable of 10GB? If not, what switches provide that capability?
Our network administrator restricts all our new 1Gb switches to only 100Mb, to which he claims it will increase overall performance. Preventing devices from bottlenecking the network. (that is, only restricting the main switch ports, not the uplinks)For example we have a new building with 2x WS-C2960S-48TS-L connected together with FlexJack and then a 1Gb Fiber connection back to our core switch.
This building is on it's own subnet and there is little broadcast traffic. I don't see the point other than it hinders the potential speed we could use. Labs are set up in this building and 1Gb is MUCH faster when it comes to imaging and software deployment.
Got a long lingering, year long issue that has spanned about 8 supervisor cards and a complete chassis swap. The 6509 acts as a ITN in our facility. The active sup card at random points of pipe usage boots into rommon mode, seriously inhibiting our company. I'm able to swap the 2 fiber pairs that we had going into the active supervisor card into the secondary and usually this works for another random amount of time, however, today it occured within minutes of hooking up the fiber links. Sitting there for about 5 minutes it booted into ROMMON. When this happens, I'm able to boot the sup card back to good status. Previous remedial actions, other than replacing sup cards/chassis, was checking the config register and making sure it was x2102. Previously, it was not, and we corrected and reloaded and it took, we thought this would fix the problem, until today.

I will be adding two WS-X6716-10GE cards in a CAT6509 soon, and will create 4 port channels with 3 ports each in the new cards, but I do have a few questions:
1 - I will be adding cards in slots 3 and 8, can I mix and bundle ports from both modules into a single etherchannel, I mean, like two ports in slot 3 and 1 port in slot 8 to create a PortChannel ?! Or can I only bundle ports in the same card/port-group in a Etherchannel using this WS-X6716-10GE card?
2 - Do I need to issue the hw-module slot x oversubscription port-group y command in order to be able to bundle ports in the Etherchannel I need to create ?! I will be using 4 Etherchannels (LACP) with 3 ports each, running in trunk mode. So I guess, I will be using something like:
int tengig 3/1
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
logging event link-status

I want to configure layer 2 switched netflow on my cat 6509 running vss,
I have configured the 2 commands below
ip flow ingress layer2-switched vlan 1,2,3
ip flow export layer2-switched vlan 1,2,3
However, if I look in the config the export bit isnt there after?
It is running a PFC
VS-F6K-PFC3C
Should layer 2 switched netflow work in this chassis ? it says on the Cisco site that it works on the below
"The command is supported on Supervisor Engine 720 in PFC3B and PFC3BXL mode only and on Supervisor Engine 2 with a PFC2"
Is a 3750 sw capable of handling full routing tables and what can you recommend in a small mutihomed BGP router or switch capable of handling full routing tables?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'll have to replace an old WS-C3550-24. Reasons for this: EOL/EOS & we'll need a NAT capable device...
As I understood, the only L3 catalyst that is able to perform NAT is a 6500? Is that correct? If the above is correct, it seems I can only replace the setup by using a router/ASA with a L2 switch. A router with high throughput (+/- 300Mbps) is hard to find, especially as NAT will require CPU resources...
So, my best (affordable price) solution is getting an ASA5520 (450Mbps FW throughput) and a L2 switch?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi noticed that the 1242AG does not bring up the Radios, when there is a Power Injector connected.I see in the Logs of the AP:
%CDP_PD-2-POWER_LOW: All radios disabled - NEGOTIATED WS-C6509 <Switchport MAC Add>
The Module in the 6500 is a WS-X6348-RJ-45 The Option "Power Injector installed" on the WLC is also enabled, with the MAC Address from the Switchport, but no change. When i disable CDP on the mentioned Switch Port and reload the AP, it comes up and runs fine.
The problem is WiSM module not coming in OPER-UP status , it’s in Started-Keepalive status.I did run debug wism events on cat6509 and seeing below logs:

I want to set up FWSM 4.1 on Cat6509 with multiple bridge groups in one transparent context. (as the manual says it can support up to 8 bridge-groups and the intent is to save security contexts) For a host in VLAN21 (b1_inside) to talk to a host in VLAN41 (b2_inside), traffic needs to be go out to MSFC which routed back the traffic through the FWSM. My question is how can I define a default route per bridge-group, I would assume FWSM should take the following two default routes per bridge-group interface but it won't;
route b1_outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.11.75.1 1
route b2_outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.11.76.1 1
seems like it allows only one default route per the context and gives me an error - "ERROR: Cannot add route entry, possible conflict with existing route"
How can I achieve outside per individual bridge-group?
FWSM context config:
Interface VLAN11
nameif b1_outside
bridge-group 1
security-level 0
!
Interface VLAN21
nameif b1_inside

We have a pair of N7K distribution switches connected to a pair of N7K Aggregation switches. We run vPC on both pairs of n7k's.
-n7k-d1 has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC1)
-n7k-d2 also has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC2)
My problem is that Spanning-Tree is blocking PC2 and all traffic from n7k-d2 is traversing the Peer-Link before reaching the Aggregation layer. Is this the best design for connecting two pairs of n7k's with vPC or if a better design would be to connect all 4 links into the same Port-Channel and vPC?
Why Cisco implements so much switching capacity in their switches Obviously,16 Gbps of permutation performance is too much for the 8,8 Gbits (24*200+2*2000) needed by ports so why they put so many bandwidth?

I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

View 10 Replies View RelatedCiscoSwitch1(4506) has 3 VLANs(12,13,14) and Switch2(4948) has 3 different VLANs(22,23,24) and IP routing has been enabled in both switches with SVI interfaces for each vlan. intervlan routing is works fine. Now there is a requirement to connect these switches together. Vlan 12 on the Cisco switch 4506 has to be made available from vlan 22 from Switch2(4948). basically Vlan 12 is having a multicast source (225.0.0.0 & 226.0.0.0) which should be accessabile from vlan 22 of cisco switch 4948.I got 2 ideas
1) Create a trunk between these switches and configure L2 vlan(12) in cisco 4948...i know theoritically it should work but what my concern is Ip routing enabled in both switches will it create any issues? is it a gud solution to this requirement?
2) Create a separate IP network on the ports connecting to both switches and set up routes to the networks.ex- console(config)#ip route 192.168.10.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.20.1.
I have a small campus network using 3750 stackable switches and a 3725 router (see diagram below). Currently the 3725 router is handling inter-vlan routing for the campus and it looks like it's not able to handle the amount of traffic we're pushing. The router CPU sometimes hits above 90% due traffic load. What I would like to accomplish is move L3 process over to the 3750 MDF stack and the IDF1 stack. I am thinking creating SVI's on both MDF stack and IDF1 stack, run HSRP between the two stacks and may be do load balance traffic between the two stack as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI run an Allen & Heath digital mixer. The iDr32 mixrack sits on the stage and has a 2 port Ethernet switch on board, which allows the device to be controlled with a PC. If you then add a WiFi router then you can have wireless remote control from a laptop. Allen & Heath also sell an app for iPad to do the same. I have this working quite well although I am receiving no metering data from the Mixrack. Allen & Heath say this is probably because my router does not support multicasting. They list some routers which are recommended, but the list is rather out of date. I am trying to find a suitable dual band router with decent range on both bands. I would prefer a cable type, but since it will not be connected to the internet, it isn't important. When I Google "Multicast capable wifi router" all that comes up is a lot of stuff about video streaming. None of the manufacturers seem to list if their product supports multicasting. I understand that multicasting is usually used for video streaming, but in my case it seems to be a requirement to speed up data between the iPad and the Mixrack. Apparently some users of similar systems have encountered problems with multiple smartphone users in the audience seeking WiFi connections. The solution to this is to use 5GHz band, and switch off the SSID. Some have also found it best to use MAC filtering for security.
