I own a Linksys BEFSR41 v 3.1. I've been attempting to set up a home network with three computers; my main desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, a netbook running the same OS and a box running Windows Home Server 2011 x64. The firmware listed for my router was initially 1.05.03.
My router has the issue with resetting its administrative password to the factory default and I've been unable to set up remote access to my LAN and home server. I decided to try updating the router's firmware, but none of the versions listed fit the one I have. The label on my router says v 3.1, but Cisco's site only has a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, then skips to 4.1, 4.2, etc. The instructions on the site warn not to use a version for a different model, but are vague as to exactly what that refers to, as the model # and the version # aren't clearly delineated.
Anyway, I tried using the latest firmware and received the, "File Pattern," error. Although it didn't seem like anything had changed, I reset the router just to be safe, then tried the v 3.0 firmware update, thinking that the software was intended for all revisions of v3.0. This time it reported updating without a problem, so I reset the router again and went back to the admin page in my browser to check the firmware version listed. To my annoyance, the firmware is now listed as 1.05.00 - i.e. an earlier version than what was shipped on the router.
This means that not only is the issue of the password resetting not fixed, but any other fixes included in the original firmware are now wiped out as well and, needless to say, I still can't set up remote access properly.
How do I restore the firmware version? Neither a reset nor a, "Restore to Factory Defaults," does this. How do I find an actual update for the router? I can't find any mention of a v 3.1 on Cisco's site, let alone support information specific to this model and version.

I was having problems with the speed being between 30-58 kpbs when going through the WRT160N router, whether its hooked up wired or wireless, the speed with both was extremely slow and wouldnt fully open pager or would take dsl day slow. I hooked up straight to modem and I got 100+ kpbs so I figured its not my ISP, so I read that upgrading my firmware might make it faster, so I upgraded and hit and held the reset button for 30 secs like it recommended but now the 192.168.1.1 wont open, I get a message saying it cant open this page

I just setup my new Cisco EA4500 and upgraded to latest firmware and signed up for my account.Local access to the router works fine and I see the Smart Wi-Fi admin/config interface However when I try to go to the following site: url...To access Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Tools, your router <em>requires</em> the <a href="url...Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware</a> and you will need to associate your router with your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. On a computer or device connected to your router, open url... and follow the instructions. This requires that you enter the router password so have that ready.
However I see no way to perform the association step - my account exists and my router is configured.I am doing all this behind this router wi-fi network not remotely.

I have upgraded the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 V4.3 router. On this router i used Statis IP (so DHCP enabled). This worked fine on my network, until this upgrade. Now when i try to ad another static IP , or when i want to change something in the Routing-tab, i get this message ' Wrong Gateway Input! It should be the same subnet with WAN IP'. Strange because i haven't changed anything in the settings.I already did a complete reset on the router, still the same problem.

Currently I'm using BT Broadband with a Cat 5 Ethernet cable. My laptop has a gigabit Ethernet port, and I have the cable plugged in.Is there a way to determine whether or not the cable is capable of 1000Mbit/s, as I am receiving 100Mbit/s, when I check the connection. Also, will replacing the cable with a new one achieve the full 1Gbit/s?

I upgraded my router from version 1.2 to 1.35NA, through the Tools / Systems page on the router (uploaded the bin file). I am connected to the router via a wired connection.
During the upgrade, the message said I wouldn't be able to access the webpage until 75 secs. I watched it count down the seconds and then when it refreshed, I could not get to my routers page: 192.168.1.2
The DLink Router is connected as a pass through router to my FIOS router, so that I can use the wired ports and I use the DLink as my wireless router (fios router wireless strength was poor).
All the lights on the router are working as though everything is ok. I am still connected to the Internet, so it appears that the pass through of my wired ports is still working after the firmware upgrade, but wireless is not. Not surprising. I expect I may have to upload my settings (which I did save), but since I cannot get to the routers page, I feel a bit stuck.
two more bits of into. I also tried getting to 192.168.0.1, which might be the default? and I cannot get there either. My Fios router is on 192.168.1.1 (and as mentioned, the DLink should be at 192.168.1.2). Fios Router reports that the 192.168.1.2 port is inactive.

I am today playing with the settings in my DIR-655 NA B1 router when I notice that a firmware upgrade is available.I clicked the button and the router automatically downloaded the file named DIR655B1_FW207NAB09.bin. I flashed it and was saying that it needed to wait 180 seconds (3 minutes) to reprogram the router after which it came up with a 404 not found on the screen. I am not able to access my router, it is bricked and I can't even re-flash the firmware comes back with Incorrect hardware ID image, Please check. I notice that the 2.07NA firmware file on the website is named DIR655B1_FW207NAB05.bin. What gives this is the first time a firmware upgrade has bricked anything I own?

I can't win. After dealing with the internet dropping once every two weeks, I decided that upgrading the firmware might work. Turns it all it did was exacerbate the problem and now my internet drops every few minutes. I've been plugged into my modem for a good 20 minutes at this point with no drops. Has my router just shit the bed or can this be fixed?

When my RV220W used firmware 1.0.0.26 the PPPoE login to AT&T/Bellsouth DSL worked just fine. I upgraded to version 1.0.1.0 and now it won't connect. The PPPoE connection still works from my prior Linksys router so there wasn't a change on the ISP side. Has something changed in firmware 1.0.1.0 that requires a change to the PPPoE profile?
DSL Modem is a Motorola Netopia (model 2210-02) with firmware 7.7.3r10 operating in Bridged mode.

I have a WAG54G ver 1.2, 4-port eth + wireless adsl router. The latest firmware update on the support download site is Ver.1.02.1 from 05/18/2004 which is ridiculous! [URL] This is the ver I have installed on the router and lt does not even have WDS setting, so the device is more or less useless.I have checked open-source alternatives (the wrt line) but they all start with WAG54G V2 and none support the earlier models v1 and v1.2 I need to somehow upgrade this router to something functional. I have checked the GPL code page as well and while there ls a listing for WAG54g, I think itd for V3 routers. So the question is:
1. Is GPL source code usable on v1.2 (I assume not)
2. any suggestions to get a wds system on the router (including beta / alpha firmware)

I happened to update firmware version of my WAG54G2 to the latest version 1.xx.xx.19. Since then connection to internet has became erratic. If rebooted, the device mostly doesn't connect. Switching to PPPoE from PPPoA and vice versa works but i have to do it every time the device is rebooted. Sometimes even that doesn't work. Basically it acts random. DSL connection shows as connected, but the internet interface is mostly down. I was wondering if i can switch back to to old 1.xx.xx.10 version. It never gave me any trouble ever for around 2 years.

I just upgraded my WAG200G for WAG120N (I'm brazillian and its the latest model here). The modem/router came with 1.0.0.7 or 8 firmware - i actually don't remind - and I upgraded to 1.0.0.16, which is the latest made by Linksys/Cisco. At this point I started testing the modem/router and I started getting problems. The range isn't as good as the older WAG200G. In my house I have 3 laptops, an AzBox Premium+ and an Xbox 360 S (the slim version which has wifi built-in) to connect to the WAG120N by WIFI. The 2 desktops are wired connected.Everything seemed to be working perfect for I was just testing the 2 wired computers first. The second task I had to do was configure the Xbox 360 wifi connection. The Xbox is less than 6 meters from the WAG120N and the signal just. But thats OK, at least the console recognizes the network and I would soon be playing again - what I thought. But I was wrong. Despite the console recognizes the network, it was just impossible to connect. I spend 2 days to figure out why all Laptops could connect to WAG120N and the Xbox 360 couldn't.
Xbox 360 detect but don't connect. I expected that somewhere I would find the answer but I couldn't. Luckily I had a click on my mind when I was at a Microsoft website looking the list of routers that supports the Xbox 360S. That list had 2 parameters, the modem name and firmware version. Yeah, "WAG120N / 1.0.0.11". It was really hard to believe that all around the world people have the same problem I was having and the solution was something so. but for the Linksys developers who destroyed the modem with bad firmware programming. Then I started to search where I would find the WAG120N 1.0.0.11 firmware just to give my idea a try. Unfortunately, there wasn't any website from which I was able to download that firmware. But I found the 1.0.0.12 firmware somewhere and make the firmware downgrade. Yeah, my Xbox 360 S could, after 2 days, finally be connected to the wireless network and I was able to play online and achieve gamerscore points again.
Even though I was able to play, the Xbox had a problem when connecting to the Xbox Live. Hopefully, this time, the Xbox 360 could tell me what was wrong. The console displaied a message saying my NAT was Moderated and I should configure my router and change the Moderated to Open, something like that. The problem is that the WAG120N doesn't have any options beyond Enable or Disable the NAT thing ( which particularly I didn't searched what it is yet). It means that I will have an unstable connection when playing. I have configured my Xbox to manually connect and I opened all the doors people said would enhance the Live connection and nothing worked. The other problem was the signal range. I don't know if it can be caused for the bugged firmware, didn't tried to see if the 1.0.0.16 firmware has some improvements over this, but the signal range just . I don't know how much newer this WAG120N is when compared to the WAG200G, but it can't be possible this newer modem has low signal range. I mean, my home is just a standard apartment. Signal should be at least normal every place.I don't know if the developer team fix firmwares based on what we say here on forum or it I'll have to email them, but if I could ask something for the new 1.0.0.17 firmware is that you, for the love of god, may this firmware Xbox 360 compatible, as the later versions was. Ah, just to remind, its not just an Xbox 360 problem, another member of this forum said this same problem appeared not just in his Xbox 360, but his laptop too.

The only thing I notice now is that channels 12 and 13 do not work properly. Setting the router to channels 12 and 13 basically sets the channel to something in the 1 - 11 range as seen by inSSIDer. This could be because the firmware I installed is the US version, which only has channels 1 - 11, but the EU version has channels 1 - 13. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but because there are a lot of wireless signals where I live, channels 1 - 11 are quite congested, so channel 13 was quite useful to me.I don't suppose anyone has a EU version of the WAG160NV2 2.00.17 firmware do they?Channels 12 and 13 worked fine with the EU version of the WAG160NV2 2.00.20 firmware but of course only at 2Mbps.

My 1 day old WAG160N doesn't seem to want to work after upgrading the firmware. Its the V2 Annex A so I made sure I had the right file, followed the instructions on the site and all went fine, router updated and rebooted. After the reboot I held the reset button for the 30 seconds as suggested, plugged in the ethernet to my laptop and popped in the CD to set it up again.Going through the setup it got to the point of detecting the router and could not find it, checked the lights on the router and the only one lit is the ethernet that the laptop was plugged into, none of the others were. I switched off the router and turned it back on, the power light and the ethernet lights all lit up, then the power light went red and a few seconds later went off. Ethernet light was still on.

I made the change WAG120G (GREAT) for WAG120N (**bleep**) and I confess that I was somewhat disappointed, the quality of the company fell dramatically. Unlike its predecessor this modem / router is bad in many ways and first of them is support for Macintosh products, the connection drops constantly and have to get on and off the wifi to work. The modem restarts and constantly drops the connection status and its predecessor NEVER did that. iPad, iPhone and Macbook can not even keep me surfing for more than one hour, the connection just stops working. Even the cable connection, my Xbox sometimes worth it to maintain a stable connection in Live. The modem has been updated with the latest firmware version (1.0.0.16). Another thing I noticed is that the modem takes A LOT to connect with the operator. It's bad, it's expensive and does not work! I

I have a Cisco Linksys WAG120N running with the firmware version 1.00.12, and it's working a quite fine.During some tests with the nmap command under Linux, I noticed that beyond the ports 80 and 433, another opened port 32764 shows up running an unknown service. This unknown service keeps running after scanning for ports between 1-65535 using nmap in stealth mode. But after querying the modem for operating system fingerprint using nmap but not in stealth mode, this port closes and the service disappears.
By using a browser to access 192.168.1.1:32764, a 12 byte "<random_prefix>.exe" file is download, and its's recognized as a text file. The file contains a "MMcSÿÿÿÿ" string, and the bytes in hexadecimal are "4d 4d 63 53 ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00".And also, something strange happens after this unknown service goes down: Accessing the modem setup via browser, the settings displayed are different than I commonly use. the encapsulation is set to "Bridged Mode Only" instead the "RFC 2516 PPPoE", and into the Status Tab the Current Time field says "Time Zone string Error". Still in the Status Tab, in the Internet Connection information the "Login Type" is a misspelled "UNKNOW", the interface says "Connected" to a well accessible Default Gateway., the same displayed into the Routing Table Entry. Th Applications & Gaming Tab is unaccessible. After power switching the modem off and on again, everything comes back to normal again.
