I can't win. After dealing with the internet dropping once every two weeks, I decided that upgrading the firmware might work. Turns it all it did was exacerbate the problem and now my internet drops every few minutes. I've been plugged into my modem for a good 20 minutes at this point with no drops. Has my router just shit the bed or can this be fixed?
View 8 RepliesI went through the hoops with my ISP (knology) and they are adamant that it is the router that is the problem. I've tried two different routers, an E2000 and a wrt120n (it may be 160n..).. both do the same exact thing. I'm extremely tired of it. I was told it could be an IP issue or something related to DHCP.

Problem: Internet 'lags out' every 10-15 minutes for approximately 3-10 seconds. It only does this when I'm connected through the router and never when I'm plugged directly into the modem. It happens most commonly when my brother and I are both online at the same time. It's rare when we only one of us is online.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust starting a couple of days ago my internet started dropping about every 10-20 minutes. The problem is only with this computer. I have a laptop right next to me and it works fine no problem and two other PCs that don't have any issues so I don't think it is the router. I have scanned my computer with different antivirus software and it's clean. The computer is always connected with a full 5 bars and says it has internet access but sometimes it drops and in order to get it up and running again I unplug the wireless adapter and plug it in again. At first I thought it might have been the adapter so I swapped it out for a new one and I'm still having the same problems. My wireless is unencrypted. This keeps happening over and over again and I am stumped on what to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my router from version 1.2 to 1.35NA, through the Tools / Systems page on the router (uploaded the bin file). I am connected to the router via a wired connection.
During the upgrade, the message said I wouldn't be able to access the webpage until 75 secs. I watched it count down the seconds and then when it refreshed, I could not get to my routers page: 192.168.1.2
The DLink Router is connected as a pass through router to my FIOS router, so that I can use the wired ports and I use the DLink as my wireless router (fios router wireless strength was poor).
All the lights on the router are working as though everything is ok. I am still connected to the Internet, so it appears that the pass through of my wired ports is still working after the firmware upgrade, but wireless is not. Not surprising. I expect I may have to upload my settings (which I did save), but since I cannot get to the routers page, I feel a bit stuck.

I am today playing with the settings in my DIR-655 NA B1 router when I notice that a firmware upgrade is available.I clicked the button and the router automatically downloaded the file named DIR655B1_FW207NAB09.bin. I flashed it and was saying that it needed to wait 180 seconds (3 minutes) to reprogram the router after which it came up with a 404 not found on the screen. I am not able to access my router, it is bricked and I can't even re-flash the firmware comes back with Incorrect hardware ID image, Please check. I notice that the 2.07NA firmware file on the website is named DIR655B1_FW207NAB05.bin. What gives this is the first time a firmware upgrade has bricked anything I own?

I own a Linksys BEFSR41 v 3.1. I've been attempting to set up a home network with three computers; my main desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, a netbook running the same OS and a box running Windows Home Server 2011 x64. The firmware listed for my router was initially 1.05.03.
My router has the issue with resetting its administrative password to the factory default and I've been unable to set up remote access to my LAN and home server. I decided to try updating the router's firmware, but none of the versions listed fit the one I have. The label on my router says v 3.1, but Cisco's site only has a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, then skips to 4.1, 4.2, etc. The instructions on the site warn not to use a version for a different model, but are vague as to exactly what that refers to, as the model # and the version # aren't clearly delineated.
Anyway, I tried using the latest firmware and received the, "File Pattern," error. Although it didn't seem like anything had changed, I reset the router just to be safe, then tried the v 3.0 firmware update, thinking that the software was intended for all revisions of v3.0. This time it reported updating without a problem, so I reset the router again and went back to the admin page in my browser to check the firmware version listed. To my annoyance, the firmware is now listed as 1.05.00 - i.e. an earlier version than what was shipped on the router.
This means that not only is the issue of the password resetting not fixed, but any other fixes included in the original firmware are now wiped out as well and, needless to say, I still can't set up remote access properly.
How do I restore the firmware version? Neither a reset nor a, "Restore to Factory Defaults," does this. How do I find an actual update for the router? I can't find any mention of a v 3.1 on Cisco's site, let alone support information specific to this model and version.
When my RV220W used firmware 1.0.0.26 the PPPoE login to AT&T/Bellsouth DSL worked just fine. I upgraded to version 1.0.1.0 and now it won't connect. The PPPoE connection still works from my prior Linksys router so there wasn't a change on the ISP side. Has something changed in firmware 1.0.1.0 that requires a change to the PPPoE profile?
DSL Modem is a Motorola Netopia (model 2210-02) with firmware 7.7.3r10 operating in Bridged mode.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having problems with the speed being between 30-58 kpbs when going through the WRT160N router, whether its hooked up wired or wireless, the speed with both was extremely slow and wouldnt fully open pager or would take dsl day slow. I hooked up straight to modem and I got 100+ kpbs so I figured its not my ISP, so I read that upgrading my firmware might make it faster, so I upgraded and hit and held the reset button for 30 secs like it recommended but now the 192.168.1.1 wont open, I get a message saying it cant open this page

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 V4.3 router. On this router i used Statis IP (so DHCP enabled). This worked fine on my network, until this upgrade. Now when i try to ad another static IP , or when i want to change something in the Routing-tab, i get this message ' Wrong Gateway Input! It should be the same subnet with WAN IP'. Strange because i haven't changed anything in the settings.I already did a complete reset on the router, still the same problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR-615, hardware version: C1, firmware version 3.12NA and my issue is that it keeps dropping my VPN connection after 12 minutes. Sometimes it'll go longer than 12 minutes but on average right at 12 minutes of my connection, it drops. This happens whether I'm using the wireless or hard wired to the router. As a test, I ran a continuous ping on a computer on my internal network and also to a computer on my corporate network. When I'm VPN'd in, both pings are successful. Once the router kills my VPN session, the pings to my internal network are successful. So the router isn't rebooting or anything like that. My VPN session will automatically reconnect, but I'm stumped.

It stays down for five minutes, after which the connection is reestablished... but if the offending progam is still running or I try to refresh the site, it drops for another five minutes.I really need to know what is causing this, and how it can be avoided. It only started this last weekend (22/1, 2011), and my ISP says they have no problems on their end. I'm running Windows 7.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have an SG300-28P which, at intervals between 5 and 30 minutes or so, drops power to all of its POE-powered ports and then immediately restores power. The switch logs nothing when this happens other than recording that the ports went down and back up, even with debug logging enabled. Non-POE ports are not affected.
When the problem started there were only four POE-powered devices on the switch and we are far under our power budget. (While testing I added a fifth device, see below.)
Not all combinations of devices cause the drops to occur -- specifically, it looks like having devices on ports near each other causes the drops. When the drops occur, the absent counters of all of the POE devices increment. I noticed this earlier thread here seemed similar: [URL]
but in that case, he got no power at all in the adjacent configurations, instead of having it drop every several minutes.

We have a VPN established between the above devices (I don't have more info on the Juniper as it's a client site) The Juniper initiates the VPN and all is well, tunnel is up all ok but approx every 45 minutes the VPN drops.
the tunnel parameters are set to keep it alive for 8 hours but that doesn't work.
I am having an issue with my network connection. I have tested the connection itself and it's not a problem on my ISP's end or the connection itself, but seems to be caused by hardware/software errors originating from the computer. It almost appears as if the connection is being capped or the like, because the signal is very strong when I connect to the internet at first, then after a few moments drops (consistently every time I try reconnecting) to an unacceptably low signal level.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a refurbished E1000 wireless router from Amazon, and from the first day I've had recurring connection issues with it. Every half hour or so it will lose all of its connections (wireless and ethernet) and requires a hard reset. After resetting, all connections are good for a little while but then the problem occurs again. When plugged directly into my modem (Motorola SB6121), my internet access is completely fine.
The router has the latest firmware as far as I know (2.1.02 build 5 May 6, 2011), and I've tried to change several settings (MTU to 1400, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, etc) but to no avail.
I have an E2000 router that has an intermittent issue where Bonjour drops out. Suddenly my Apple TV won't see my computers, and my iPad won't see my network printer. This happens whether the Apple TV and computers are connected via wired or wireless interfaces.
Restarting the devices does not solve the issue.

My problem occurs when i am trying to download something big, mainly the speed of the download raises at a peak and then it drops disconnecting me from the internet for a few seconds. This only happens when my laptop is on a wireless connection and this phenomenon repeats itself untill the download is complete. During the connection crash I am not able to access any site.
My laptop is an Asus G series with Win7 64bit SP1, and I use utorrent for P2P downloads.
I've just been on the phone with tech support and it appears that the latest firmware that Cisco Connect is stating that one should install is faulty and is bricking routers.
I've tried resetting it, holding the reset button while powering up for over 5 minutes with no change.
All the router does now is the power light is blinking but no access to the router is possible at all.
I upgraded from Vista 64 bit to Win 7 64bit and one of the first things I've noticed was that youtube videos take forever to load, I use to stream on 720p videos in realtime but now even 360p can struggle to load, 480p videos you have to pause for 30 seconds. Oddly, speedtest indicate my full 15mbps down and 1mbps up, regular downloads go fast but streaming youtube, vimeo, or anykind of videos take a while.
My initial guess was that it has something to do with the Wi-fi PCI card. I have D-Link dwl G-550 and on windows compatibility center it says its not supported. Windows 7 automatically detected and installed its own drivers, it works ok.

The A router has been working fine for many years; I just needed wireless access. It suddenly dropped the internet connection early this afternoon, Sun, 11-Mar-2012, ~1220hrs PDT. I heard it go out because I was streaming NPR at the time.Using the B router, my desktop computer (connected via a wire) can still talk to my laptop (wireless), but neither of them can see the internet.When I swap back to the A router (wires only), it now has no internet connection either! But the desktop and the laptop (both wired) can still see each other via the (wired) router.When I remove the router from the network and connect the DSL modem directly to my desktop computer, I have internet access; it works fine! But not if a router is in the circuit.
(1) Router B seems to work because my wired desktop and my wireless laptop can communicate locally.
(2) Router A still works because my desktop and laptop can communicate with each other using a wired network hosted by the A router.
(3) The DSL modem seems to work because my desktop has internet access when connected directly to the modem.
(4) Neither of the routers can communicate with the internet through the DSL modem.
I spent an hour in a chat with Verizon tech support. I've power-cycled everything. I've reset both routers to default specs and reconfigured them. I've reset the DSL modem via its button. I've used different cables. It appears that neither of the routers can successfully communicate through the DSL modem to the internet. But they both used to. Why would it just suddenly stop connecting through the modem?

Ever since I upgraded my PC to Windows 8 the internet has been SLOW... It works fine still on my tablets and PS3. Looking online they seem to say I need new drivers? Not sure what to do.

I setup static ips, wireless, port forwarding, security, dynadns, etc. A few days after initial setup I noticed that my wireless devices could no longer connect and some of my desktops lost their ips (after their lease expired). After some digging and testing, I narrowed the problem down to DHCP dropping out and no longer assigning IPs. This happens after about 1 day of uptime. All the other router systems seem to work normally when this happens. Im not really running anything heavyweight on my network. I browse the internet and I have a few servers serving incoming connections. When I check the logs, I notice that every minute the following message is displayed: UDHCPD Inform: add_lease [ip of my win7 machine]. I have netbios enabled. Im thinking that the constant buildup of these requests may have something to do with DHCP dying later on.Is it too late to get a refund on this thing? Seems like a software issue so RMA will probably do me no good.
