Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuration Register On WS-C4948E Switch
Mar 7, 2012
recently we purchased cisco smart care, and today i recived this notification: Configuration RegisterCriticalNot fixed on switch it is set to: Configuration register is 0x2101
I am uploading new configurations to my Cisco 3750 stacked switch and noticed that after the load I cannot log back into the switch because my password somehow was changed. After performing password recovery and getting back into the swtch, I noticed the configuration register was 0xF. I have never seen this before. The config-register command does not seem to be supported to change it back to factory default. The switch is on a ship which has several power hits when they switch power from shore to ship power. Can this cause the configuration register to change? What is the best way to change the configuration register?
Last night I've upgraded a catlyst 6509 (non-redundant), during the upgrade I# run into the problem that the 6509 only wants to boot from sup-bootflash, and that it took an old image from sup-bootflash.I deleted this old image and then the node came into rommon mode. There I did the boot command and refered to the correct image on disk1:Now the boot succeeded. Just in time before I run out of my maintenance window.
I did some investigation and looked into the supervisor (using attach 5 and remote command switch show boot) and detected that it's configuration register is on 0X2101 (This is because I run into problems a week ago because of a corrupt flash disk and changed this in rommon mode , without changing it back, I'm afraid I'm not totally known with the 6509)
Question is now how can I change the configuration register back to 0x2102 without any service interruption (It will cost me quit some goodwill if I have to boot the node for the third time in three weeks)?
I have a Catalyst 4006 switch in production and a spare switch of same model. I have to quickly copy the configuration from production switch to spare switch (both L2 and L3 configurations) How do I do that?
I have one switch 3750G12S I joined the company new, I found that they want to replace it with Alcatel stack switches. I didnt configure this Cisco switch before. how to configure it. I have 4 other new cisco switches in the topology which is not created yet. the 4 switches are all 2960.
i have floor with 10 users with DATA vlan and VOICE vlan , WIRELESS vlan , my questions :
Basement floor Core switch fiber -----> my floor switch <--------my internet DSL router827
- In this scenraio the switch in my floor will be as L2 or L3 ? - What is the configuration it will be in the switch if it is L3 ? - What is the configuration it will be in DSL router with Subinterfaces for each vlan ?
Any sample for configuration that can work for switch nad DSL router ?
I am trying to set up a simple configuration on a Cisco 4928-10G switch running cat4500-entservicesk9-mz.122-37.SG.bin
All I want to do is to mark all trafic on vlan 3 let's say for this example with dscp af31. All outgoing trafic to be marked with DSCP AF31.
In pratice If I have 2 laptops connected to access ports on vlan 3. When one laptop pings the other I want to see on the receiving end when I run wireshark the traffic to come marked with DSCP AF31.
I have a 3560 switch with 1 VLAN (VLAN 10) where I need to make ports:
1-10 as isolated (can't contact each other) 11-20 as community (need to contact each other like a normal VLAN) 23 as promiscuous (server that ports 1-20 need to get to) 24 as promiscuous (WAN router where ports 1-20 need to get to and the remote servers).
I am interested in learning and setting up VPN IPSec with Cisco ASA 5505. I've managed to successfully setup VPN andcan connect to it from outside and browse securely to the outside/internet via tunnel. However, once I am connected to VPN, I cannot access any of my internal hosts/servers via VPN client. I am wondering it its a missing ACL/NAT...ASA Version 8.2(5)
I am having an issue bypassing a switch 3750G series. How i can bypass the old configuration in the switch.i have tried the CTRL+BREAK at startup but it wont work.
I am going to change a running 6500 switch. I am missing a best pratice doc for changing a cisco switch configuration. My question is if a startup-config has an error (due to typo mistake, or due to comands not supported on latest IOS) and I do copy tftp startup-config then what will happen ? I want to make sure when I do "reload" the switch then it should boot normally with the latest startup config !
I'm in the process of upgrading my 4507R core to a new 4507R-E. The old switch has Sup IV engines (WS-X4515) running IOS 12.2(40)SG and the new switch has Sup 6L-E engines running 15.1(2)SG. I'm trying to "move" my configuration from the old switch to the new. Below shows the commands configured in the old switch. I'm trying to determine how to implement the same configuration on the new switch since these commands are no longer available.
I have a 2960 that bounced several times over the weekend and then appears to have lost its configuration. Using CDP from the backbone switch pulls up the information below. Is there any way for me to configure the downed switch from another switch on the network? I am trying to avoid having someone from the site try to find a console cable and a suitable computer with a serial port. [code]
when enabling multicasting on layer 3 interfaces the CPU becomes fully utilized , is there any specific configuration should be enabled to reduce this .
Config :

I have stack of 2 switches 3750?I config etherchannel between them.
here is result
2 Po2(SD) LACP Fa1/0/15(I) Fa2/0/15(I)
Both ports are up up but standalone Int port channel 2 is down down.Need to know if this is default behaviour when we config etherchannel between stack switches?
I have a laptop with a single physical NIC which I have used the advanced management tools to create two virtual NICs (say vlan 10 and vlan 20) and both are on the same subnet (say 192.168.4.x). One NIC is for normal TCP/IP traffic and one is for broadcast/multicast traffic (I have some custom software that requires this to be the case and works fine on an older laptops with built-in physical NIC and PCMCIA XIRCOM NIC). The dual NIC laptop communicates with a dual NIC server via a Cisco 2811 router (which has a 16 port switch module at the back) and has vlans set up so.
What I want is for the single NIC laptop (with two virtual NICs) to be able to also communicate with the server. Basically, one NIC is for normal traffic and one is for multicast/broadcast traffic. All three machines need to be able to talk to each other using the NIC for normal traffic and both laptops must be able to receive broadcasts from the server. What is the best way to configure the router to handle the trunking/tagging? Most configuration documentation I read has two complete subnets for the two virtual NICs. Note that all three machines use static IPs and are part of a workgroup so no DNS and domain servers etc.
I am slowly working my way though the setup and configuration of our new 4900m switch. The switch will have a pretty basic operational configuration. We are simply going to network 3 servers together through the swtich. Anyhow, I have been fallowing the guide at this site: [URL]
Basically the switch is brand new and I just setup things such as the clock, the banner, and the hostname. Anyhow, at various points in the guide such as the configuration of the telnet password and especially the interface gigabitethernet I get the "invalid input detected at '^' marker". I also did a show interfaces and noticed there was not any gigabitethernet interfaces but there was a
"FastEthernet1 is down, line protocol is down Hardware is Fast Ethernet for out of band management, address i"
Anyhow, my thinking is continuing on with the guide and at least try to setup the interface for the management port so I can then use the cisco network assistant gui to then configure the rest of the switch.
I read quite a few documents on configuring SPAN on a cisco switch but none of them mention any limitations or any kind of CPU load it can have on a switch. I need to configure this on one of our switches and would like to know if there are any implications related to SPAN.
I have a 2911 router connected to a 3750 switch. I have configured vlan interfaces on the 2911 router:I am using the vlan 89 (89.2) as the management ip address for me to remotely get to the switch. Is this a proper configuration or could this cause issues in the future.
switch catalyst 4500 with ios cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.02.00.XO.150-2.XO.bin. I need to configure modules 3 and 4 of supervision, the problem is that I need the 4-port module 3 are active but only the first turn on both the module 3 and the first port on the module 4. [code]
boot system switch all flash:c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE1/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin;flash:c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.SEE2/c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin We have two stack of 3750 switches. When I enter above command getting below mentioned error, two images are showing switch 1, but one image only showing in switch 2, i.e 1st image in show boot command.
%Command to set boot system switch all flash:c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE1/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin;flash:c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.SEE2/c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin on switch=2 failed
I received 3 GESM cisco blade switches for a HP Blade system. I do not have the chassis. I need to sanitize these blade switches but I have never worked with these. I don't see any removable flash. Where is the config stored?
Since Avaya phones do not run CDP, how does the phone know which DHCP pool to pull from to get its IP address if the PC is connected to the phone.
Let's say I have a interface config like this interface gigabitethernet1/0/1 cisco3750(config-if)#switchport mode trunk cisco3750(config-if)#switchport access vlan 126 [code]....
And two DHCP scopes configured on the switch. What keeps the phone from pulling from the wrong scope?
I've recently purchased a Cisco catalyst 2960S-24TS-L & setup 3 V LANS 10 (no current IP),20 (192.168.2.1) and 30 (192.168.3.1) to reflect the router V LAN configuration & ip information. When connecting my PC to the switch to test connectivity on (2.1 & 3.1) I'm unable to connect to the the net but can successfully ping GW (int FE0.20 & FE0.30) 192.168.2.1 & 3.1.
The router is an Cisco 1801 & it seems this is where the configuration issue is but I'm unable to figure out how to complete the setup. It has been quite awhile since I've configured a Cisco router.
Ive never had this router connected to a switch so all router switch ports are in the default VLAN1 (192.168.1.2), with FE0 disabled. In trying to get the switch to communicate with the router I made the following router config modifications.
FE0 enabled with subinterfaces configured FE0.10-currently no ip FE0.20-192.168.2.1/27 FE0.30-192.168.3.1/27
I have two issues I want to resolve: 1) I do not know what additional steps are required to allow 2.1.& 3.1 V LANs to access the net. 2) I want to disable VLAN1 if possible & use the network IP for VLAN10 (192.168.1.0). I'm unsure how to do this as any change on VLAN1 immediately breaks router access and the router reconfiguration becomes more complicated with changes to the FW ACL etc.
I am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.
switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access switch#copy run start or switch#(config-if)#switch port mode access switch#sh run int fa 0/1
It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadn't entered the "switch port mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter. Why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?
how to recover password and retrive configuration on Cisco switch 2950 and 3560.I know the way to press and hold the mode button and then plug in the power cord can reset the switch to factory default but it will reset everything to nothing. As such, it is not what I want and I want to keep the configuration file and able to use the configuration on the switch.
I'm having troubles with a cisco 877 router, it keeps changing itself to either 0x2101 which is good, or to 0x3100 which is bad because it messes up my bautrate to 1200 instead of 9600.it doesn't seem to matter if I change it, it will still tell me that it will change at next reload. [code]
I have never seen this before.the command in conf t : configuration-register 0x2101 is not working, played with wr mem or copy start run neither of one useful.
i have new project in hospital with the bellow product :
20 X WS-C2960-24TC-S
2 X WS-C3750X-48T-S
2 X WS-C2960S-24TS-S
i need to configure this switch in order to work first the 2 core switch for redundancy then each catalyst switch 2960 connected to the core with 2 uplink each uplink for each core switch that way i have rendundancy in the connection then i need one vlan ?i need to configure this switch to work perfectly with each other in best redundancy mode?
