Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuring Production 6509 For ISCSI Storage And VMware

I've been searching the forums to see if any other users have completed this type of configuration successfully with not much luck. I have a Cat 6509 currently in production. We have several Vlans and all communication and routing is funtional in our environment. We are going to be adding an iSCSI Storage environment, and within a couple of months, adding a 3 Host VMware farm. I've configured several iSCSI environments using dedicated switches for the iSCSI network but never to existing production switches.My thoughts are to add two iSCSI Vlans outside of the production IP Scheme to the 6509 with no SVI, attach storage controller's NICS ports to the management network and of course, other available NIC ports to the iSCSI network. My question is, what is the best practice in configuring the 6509 i.e. switchports, Jumbo Frames, Flow-Control to support iSCSI on a 6509 that is in production and what are possible risks if any with enabling Jumbo Frames, Flow-Control etc?

I haven't worked with infrastructure much lately but planning on replacing a Dell switch used for a small iSCSI SAN with a Cisco 3560x. Switch is sstorage ONLY, network handled through different switches. I believe I want to disable spanning tree and configure trunking for the 4 GB ports connected to the storage array. The switch is providing connectivity to SAN via multiple GB connections and then also multiple GB connections to 3 Vmware hosts.Can you look over the changes I made to config below and let me know if I am on the right track.
I also plan to add a second switch later with the 10GB modules to interconnect for redundancy (but not worried about that part for now). I do not plan on using jumbo frames.
Here are my questions
1) Is the best way to globally disable spanning tree for the switch?
2) Did I trunk the ports correctly below?
3) Should I apply any specific SmartRoles to the 4 SAN NICs (GE1-4) or to host NICs (GE13-20)?
4) Anything additional I should do to handle iSCSI data?

Cisco let us try a CISCO C3750X- 24T-S Stack (2 switches) ->> IpBase Sofware licence We've 2 Hyper-v 2008 R2 and one SAN Netapp FAS2040 connected via Iscsi.All was working well with this stacks.Hyper-V see Nas Iscsi interface without problem. Even with basic stack config (no Vlan, ect...).Then, after this test period, we bought a C3750X-24T-L stack (2 switches) to replace the stack lent by Cisco.This one is LanBase Software.
With this stack, hyper-v work very bad ! We've got a lot of Iscsi error in the eventvwr.I can't access luns.So, is there a difference between LanBase and IpBase for a iscsi use ?I put the 24T-S config on the 24T-L switch without pb. So config is the same on both stacks...Also i've got a "TestPortAsicLoopback" = "Failed" on the new stack...I've tried with other stack cables. Not better.

Looking for input/thoughts on the upgrade of our 3560's and 3750's while on production network.
While we could remotely send the IOS over the network to the device, I'm concerned about errors and the lack of physical control of the device. So, the thought is to just go to the comm closet, plug in with laptop to the console port, and upgrade the IOS over the console port. But this would require xmodem, correct? I know the fastest way would be to a. configure an empty fa0/0 port to no switchport, add an IP address, and use tftp. BUT, we would have to isolate the switch from the production network while connected to it with our laptop. Otherwise, our laptop would be seen on the network as an unknown device, and there would be repercussions...
So, we console into the device, and u/l the IOS that way. Is there a way to increase the baud rate on the switch to 115200, change putty to 115200, then do the x modem? I just say we should shut all the ports to isolate the switch from the network, then tftp the IOS to the switch. Unplug, reopen the ports, then reboot the switch.

I want to upgrade IOS for my production core 3750 switch. Below is Show version/fash output. I have IOS image "c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE7", need to confirm below concerns:-
1-As this is stackable switch do i need to upgrade on all Switch..i can see there are 3 flash while doing show flash?
2-Is above IOS image support with my switch? do i able to enable ssh?
3-is flash memory is enough to succefully upgrade IOS?
4-Any other point which i should keep in mind before upgrading..any special feature which this IOS wont support.

According to Cisco, Nexus 1010 can host up to (6) Virtual Service blades. I can't find out how many Virtual Supervisor Modules and Virtual Ethernet Modules that make up one Nexus 1000v switches can be supported by each Virtual Service Blades. In other words, how many Nexus 1000v switches can be created with Nexus 1010 appliance?how to configure Nexus 1000v switches with vmware. without Nexus 1010, the standalone nexus 1000v switches was configured from vCenter as an OVF. Running 12.2(18)SXF3
I am keeping the four Sup720 modules and have purchased new versions of the others blades including two new 6509-E chassis?Can I take my stand-by Sup720 out of the production machine and insert it into the new chassis?

I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. When I connect another switch or a VMWare Esx server on one of the ports, the port blinks for few seconds and then goes off. When I connect a desktop or laptop or a windows server the ports stay led and I can access resources on the network. However, when connect another switch or a vmware esx server, the port is disabled.
What config in the switch can I check to make sure the ports stay on regardless when I connect a desktop / laptop, switch or vmware server?

I'm trying to configure intervlan routing between a cisco 2801 router and HP/Amer switches. Using int fa0/1 and subinterfaces I was sure I had it configured correctly, but I cannot ping the default gateways when I place a host in a particular vlan. Below is what I have configured.
HP switch - port 9 connects to fa0/1 on 2801
ip default-gateway 10.1.100.1
trunk 9 Trk1 trunk
trunk 10 Trk2 trunk - to another switch

we've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?

The have around 80 staff and I think the current infrastructure is overkill for the size of the company. The current kit is old and they have no GB ethernet ports. They currently have:-
Core Switch:
1x Cisco c6509with a 48 port fast ethernet module (WS-X6248-RJ-45)
and an 8 port fibre module (WS-X6408A-GBIC)
I'm looking to replace this with something with 72 ethernet ports and 8 fibre ports
Access Switches:
2x 3500Replacement needs at least 48 ports and 2 fibre modules each
and 2x 5500Replacement needs at least 72 ports and 2 fibre modules each.

If client gateway = 192.168.64.9 then next-hop = 192.168.64.8 else use default-route 0.0.0.0
I know it's possible to do a route-map match ip-address ACL list. But is it possible to match on gateway?
Some info about hardware and config:
6509-E in VSS (IOS 12.2(17r)SX5) withVS-S720-10G supervisor.
All routes are static, IP for 192.168.64.9 is on SVI vlan.

I have two ISPs. Each is on it's own subnet connected to the 6509 MSFC/Switch. FW1 is on 100.1.100.0/30 and FW2 is on 200.1.200.0/30 subnet. My goal is route all traffice going to the Internet from subnet 10.133.3.0/24 to FW1 and all other subnets across the organization to FW2. I am not sure if I need to use ACL / Static route combo, or just a static routes or ACLS?

I would like to ask you if it's possibile to block routing between some Vlan for just once of them.
Maybe I can explain better:
I've got a Cisco 6509 with 4 configured vlan interfaces
Int Vlan 10 10.10.1.0/24
Int Vlan 20 10.10.2.0/24
Int Vlan 30 10.10.3.0/24
Int Vlan 40 10.10.4.0/24
Vlan "10" is the phone voip Vlan and it must not talk with the others Vlan. The others Vlan can comunicate normally except with Vlan "10".
Pratically Vlan "10" needs to be isolated from the others.
This equirement comes becouse Vlan 10 is wireless and has the WEP key encryption (very weak protocol). Some Phone couldn't support the WPA2 key and I need to avoid an unauthorized external client, cracking the WEP key and connecting to this WiFi, could have free access to the others Vlan.

I have a problem on my catalyst 6509 on which I would like to do the following things :
I have some Vlans in which multicast is enabled.
In tose Vlan theres is a router which is default router for equipements.
I had enabled multicast routing because some Vlan needs to exchange multicast informations, but I wolud like to make difference between Multicast traffic. For example I have 5 vlans:
Vlan 1 and 2 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 3 and 4
Vlan 3 and 5 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 1 and 2
Vlan 5 is independant Vlan but doesn't need to have multicast information from all others vlan.
Last problem, equipement on differents vlan can use the same Mulkticast group address. In this case, Multicast routing is not working between Vlan 1 to Vlan 2 and Vlan 3 to Vlan 4.

I need to setup my 6509 with PBR going to two different Firewalls. The 6509 has vlans and multiple serial interfaces. What/where do I install the policy-maps? I want to direct one of the vlans to one firewall and the other vlans and wan subnets to the other firewall.

Configuring an application using routing mode on cisco ace clients ---asa--3750--cisco ace--- servers behind vip,visa card transaction servers.i am able to setup a vip on ace using routing mode on ACE,as the servers need to see the client ip ,so we are not performing SNAT,this part is working fine,when a request comes from the client ,it goes to the vip and to one of the backend servers ,and the request will be forwaded back to the ace ,as the default gateway on the servers is pointing to the server vlan on ace.but if the transaction from the servers need to go to the visa card transaction servers ,how can we achieve this ,and after fetching the data from visa servers,does the reply will be fwd to the ACE or ASAs directly.

I currently have a Cisco 891 running with a FTP running on port 21. I currently have the NAT from external IP to and internal IP 192.168.12.6 for port 21. And the firewall allowing that traffic through and client software is working fine. However I need this FTP to be running on port 990 and anytime I change the NAT and the firewall, the external FTP clients connect but then drop when recieving the directory listing.

I'm looking for some input on configuring vPC on the Nexus 3048.I know that it's supported to use 1G interfaces for the vPC Peer-Link, but using 2x1G for the Peer-Link would make the Peer-Link a bottle-neck if the 10G ports are used in a vPC. What about using 2x10G ports for the Peer-Link and using the remaining 10G ports in one, or potentially two vPCs. Should that work or is it in any way not recommended? The reason I'm asking is that the 10G ports are called "Uplink" ports in the data sheets for the 3048.
We are planning to connect some servers to the 3048s using vPC with each server connected by 4x1G interface (2x1G for each switch), and then we want to connect a Netapp storage system with two controllers using 2x10G each (the controllers are active/passive, so you can think of it as two separate systems). We would connect controller A with vPC 1x10G to each switch, and controller B in the same way with vPC 1x10G to each switch.

I am about to configure 4 Gig ports for EtherChannel. I've been reading about EtherChannel and it seems easy enough to configure. I have a host (server)which I am going to connect to these 4 - gig ports. This is new for me and would like some feedback for those that have used EtherChannel on their layer 2 switches. I have 2 6509-E chassis with SUP-720-VSS and classic line cards :-(. on October 2011 the switch reached 100% CPU on both devices and the entire network went down. Customer restarted the core so we lost all the log files and couldnt find out any root cause on the same. TAC engineer suggested to have some script configured on the system in case of CPU shooting up above 70%, it will create a file in flash and keep appending the logs to the same. Last week i got call from customer saying that the CPU again went high for around a minute on both the cores. Last time i added CoPP also on the switch in order to prevent the CPU reaching 100%. Still it went high and from the captured logs i saw that the process created the high CPU was Port Manager Per and SSH process. Attached the file created by the netdr capture command.

I have a customer that has a Catalyst 6509 with two Supervisor VSS capable and my Sales team sell another 6509 with just one Supervisor VSS capable. Simple question: Will VSS configuration will recognize that I have three Supervisors? It will work as QUAD-SUP solution or as a normal VSS solution?
