Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 SNMP Polling Fails?
May 31, 2012I am having issues with monitoring our Cisco ASA5505 devices with "SolarWinds Orion NPM 10.2" through the use of SNMPv2. On some devices we see that SNMP polling stops and that the ASA's interfaces would show up as unknown - usually when the link to the device goes down/up or after a random ammount of time. At that point SNMP polling data is no longer updated and all we can rely on is ICMP for device status. I can resolve the issue by restarting the remote ASA OR restarting the SolarWinds server after which polling resumes. We are only seeing this behaviour with our remote ASA's.
Our setup is as follows:
Head End: Cisco ASA 5520 [ASA 8.3(2)]
Remote: Cisco ASA 5505 [ASA 8.3(2)]

Jan 8, 2012I've been implementing a setup where a remote office has a Cisco 1900 router. There are 2 GRE/ IP SEC tunnels to the headquarters, 1 over public internet, 1 over a private cloud. Because of some MTU issues we have to clear the DF bit for some of the traffic, but we also want to use PBR to send https traffic over the "public internet" tunnel and the rest of the traffic over the "private cloud" tunnel. I'm able to clear the DF bit and to do the PBR with route-maps, but I'm not able to implement both functionality at the same time.

Jan 1, 2012I can see the console on the router. (Using the USB console connected to a Macintosh.) I was configuring the router though this console connection, and I created a new user (priv level 15) and removed the default 'cisco' user. So I'm stuck at the username/password login prompt now.
I decided to do the password recovery procedure (via the cisco doc I found etc), but I cannot break into ROMMON during the boot process. I'm not sure if that's because my Mac isn't sending the break, or what.
The pw recovery doc says you can "remove flash" if you can't break into the boot sequence. However, I cannot find any instructions on how to remove the flash. I've opened the router, and I see one very small daughter card on the main board that I think is the flash, but I'm not about to start arbitrarly prying parts off.

Apr 24, 2013I am troubleshooting memory leaks and buffers issues on my 1900 and had some doubts regarding the problems that my router causes.Intermitently during the day for no reason the gig0/0 interface connected to ISP stops responding from our management network (log shows that the interface goes down). The ISPs modem responds fine from my management network.The issue goes away by itself in 20 minutes, sometimes more or after a hard reboot.Sometimes a router would increment a throttle value to 1. When running for 4 days without a reboot, the router raised 39 throttles and 57 input drops. [code] The router is running Version 15.1(2)T4 and I was not able to find any caveats on cisco web page (although I havent used the bug finder tool)Is this only leak I found a reason to start worrying or I can disregard it and continue basic troubleshooting (change cable and plug my ISP to another port)

Oct 15, 2012I've got a problem with DHCP running on a cisco 1900 series router, 1921 to be precise. The Data VLAN works perfectly, i configured a ip helper address and its working. Problem tough is VLAN 20. This is the voice vlan. As u can see in the config below, this has been configured using VRRP and VRF for failover purposes. I did more of these configurations, and they all worked fine, just not with this particular router!
As u will notice i deleted all the not needed to know information or i X'ed it!

my problem is from time to time that the connection is lost there is no connection with the router and the only solution is to turn off and on the cisco 1900 router and the connection will be back.

Dec 22, 2008I matched the traffic statistics on one of my Cisco ASA site-site tunnels with the OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.171.1.4.3.1.1.25.4142 (cipSecTunHistInOctets). I was real proud of myself for a few days until I checked the history and found the OID wasnt working.After some troubleshooting I found that the last four digits (4142 in this case) change whenever the tunnel drops and re-establishes itself. Any way to collect tunnel utilization history on an ASA with SNMP? Is there a different OID I can use thats based on the endpoint IP?

Sep 20, 2012I am seeing a strange situation on my 6500 switch?By having snmp walk on '1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.3' (== cpmCPUTotal5sec), I came to know that there are two processor and the cpu util for switching processor is gone to 88 % and some time creeps to 99 %.

but when I do sh process cpu on the console, all looks normal as it shows cpu utilization of RP. why the value is so high on the switching processor ?

Apr 16, 2013I'd like to know what is "masks" in the output of show platform tcam utilization. What does 784 mean? What effect has the number of mask in the amount of supported unicast direct routes?
I'm having trouble comparing the capacity of theese two switches, regarding unicast directly-connected routes. I know the second switch has cpu utilization issues and ip unicast failed routes over 4096 arp entries. What would be the case for the first one?

Jan 31, 2012We are facing high CPU Utilization on Cisco 3750X-48P-L without any traffic on it. find the attached log files for 2 separate 3750's stack, we have upgraded the IOS of SW2 from "c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.bin" to "c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE4.bin" but still we found the same issue with CPU utilization.

Apr 24, 2013I've been looking at reported problems with our Vdeio Conferencing kit attched to a stack of 3750's (which I think is down to QoS) but this got me looking at the logs. We get a lot of high CPU utilization warnings mainly for SNMP (315), Hulc running con (95), Virtual exec (289). I understand the last two are normal, and the SNMP one is probably Cisco Works polling as it happens every 4 hours.
However I've got an odd one: Apr 25 07:34:58: %SYS-1-CPURISINGTHRESHOLD: Threshold: Total CPU Utilization(Total/Intr): 93%/0%, Top 3 processes(Pid/Util): 296/85%, 144/0%, 154/0%
What is Pid 296? It's not listed on the switch:

Feb 12, 2012First of all I purchased the switches with part no. WS-C3750X-48P with the following IOS c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE1 & IOS feature license to work as ipservice.
Symptoms:
1) - When running the switches in stack mode (connecting the booth switch with full-duplex stack) I found the cpu utilization on each switch reached to 34% The Hulc LED Process reaches to 20%
3) - After about 1 hour with no connections to the switch I found the status not changed.
4) - I tried to run each switch in stand-alone mode (without stack cables connected) & monitor the status of the cpu utilization. I found it the same problem exist. Actions taken:
1) - Refereeing to the internet I found a bug ID describing the status of the mentioned symptoms (attached)
2) - I made a down grade for the IOS version to be c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin
3) - The mentioned IOS solved the Hulc LED Process (became 1 : 3 % ) & however cpu utilization became 18% with no links or traffic connected to the switches.
4) - I guess that 18 % utilization is too much for a free switch (refer to the show run file) as I did not configure any advanced commands.

May 22, 2012I am running a 1712 12.4(25d) with NAT, VPN and FW/IDS. I have a broadband ethernet connection at 20mb. As I run some traffic through it, the processor jumps up to near 100% and throughput comes to a screeching halt. IP CEF is turned on and makes no difference when it is turned off or on.
