Cisco Switching/Routing :: Output Errors On N5k 10G Interfaces?

today I witnessed a cisco n5k that stopped playing fair. For a yet unkown reason several interfaces started to show output errors all begining within the same second. While i instantly thought this would be a wiring issue I began to ask myself what an output error actually means. Google usually brings up output drops, not regular output errors. So what is it and how can a 10G fiber interface even detect that there is a problem without receiving what it was sending?

We are facing output queue problems on our ATM interfaces. A lot of output queue errors are been shown as below.
Cisco 2811 -> ATM Link -> <-ATM Link <- Cisco 3945 Routers.
Cisco 2811 Version is 124-15.T9.bin

I have seen an error in GRE configured between two routers over WAN. i am monitoring the WAN link and GRe tunnel via WhatsupGold NMS and it reported that Gre tunnel having packet loss sometimes and this time it affects the services and traffic passing over tunnel.sh int t101 shows output drops . is that the problem ? i have read that i have to adjust MTC size but i tried to change the tunnel MTU to 1400 but still sh int t101 shows MTU as 1514 ? What could be the problem of output drops in my tunnel link. [code]

In my cisco 3845 router I can see output packet drop in some of the interfaces.I suspect that router is processing packet beyond its mix throughput limit. Moreover when i run show int fax/y switching command I can see packet drop by RP process.

We are receiving a large amount of output drops on 4 interfaces that connect to microwave wireless.This is playing up with our Management system. Saw a bug report but that was for 3750, not the IOS version but was a similar issue. [code] The output errors tend to happen at the same time. All ports are trunks however there are other trunks on the switch that are not having these issues. [code]

I have a AIR-AP1121G-A-K9 running c1100-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA2 (Autonomous)We have monitoring setup with Orion NPM and we consistently see output errors, Transmit discards and big buffer errors The users at the site have not reporting any issues but was wondering how to prevent these or are these normal?What causes the output errors on Wireless Radio ? I am looking at the interface stats of port Fa1/0/2 and see something strange. Ouput drops are 42Billion in 16mins, then 21249 few seconds later, then followed by 42Billion drops again, then 21444...and so forth..I keep getting an entirely different output drops reading everytime i refresh within seconds of each refresh!

My router, a Cisco 7204 with NPE 300, is experiencing output drops and input errors on a fastethernet interface. I have a 100Mbps connection with less than 15Mbps utilization at peak times.

One of my wi-fi site having 2nos cisco 2950 switchs. in that network some D-link unmanageble swithes also there and access points also connected to cisco switchs and D-link switchs.after one or two days i am not able to connect the wi-fi, then i need to restart the access point then only wi-fi is working fine.I upgraded the latest ios also.I connected some access points to the cisco switch ports, those ports are showing crc error messages like below. I currently have a stack of 3750G switches with a cross stack etherchannel connected to a 3750E stack in the distribution layer.The 3750G stack is running 15.0-2SE IP Base. I began noticing the Mac flap issue when I was Re-enabling dot1x on the switchports. As first I thought dot1x maybe have contributed to this so I removed it from the stack temporarily.I am still seeing Mac flap logs usually when a machine reboots or re-connects back to the network. These are all wired desktops.I started looking at the etherchannel configuration which is using LACP. The 3750E stack looks fine with all ports in mode active. On the problematic 3750G stack I noticed 3 of the ports in the etherchannel set to mode active and 1 port set to mode passive. The port shows as bundled but I can't imagine this is ok.The only other difference on this one port is there is no mls qos commands like on the other 3 interfaces in the port channel.I mainly need to know what the Mac flapping is about. Whether it is a bug or related to the current etherchannel configuration.

I have a Nexus 7000 pair with Etherchannels connecting to various access switches. 2960's and 3750's.The access switches channel 2 ports together. LACP active mode. One link goes to one Nexus and one to the other. Those connections are a portchannel with vpc configured.Every 30 seconds on every interface connecting to one Nexus I see a FCS error. The errors increment at the same time every 30 seconds. Only on one port. If I shutdown that link and keep the channel up on the other link the errors move. No shut the interface and they move back.This must surely be some Nexus generated packet that the access switch does not recognize/ what is likely to be getting sent at 30 sec intervals to all Channel members on one link ?

I have a 3560-24ps, and I'm having issues with it booting. When I power the device up all the front panel lights come on like normail, and then the system light starts flashing like normal, but after 5 - 6 seconds the system light goes off. I don't get any output from the console, and the fans still run.

I have an ASR 1002x connected to a 6513. Connection is from ASR Gig Copper SFP to 6513 Copper 10/100/1000 port. The ASR is recevinig Runt and input errors. I have removed the negotiation auto command on both boxes and hard coded the speed etc and still errors occur. I have also added the negotiation auto to both devices and also removed it with out hard coding the speed at and same results. Everytime I have seen these errors is has been to collision caused by a duplex mismatch.

I have an odd situation where I cannot get a device connected to a built in switchport with out input and crc errors. When connecting to a GLC-T sfp it works fine.Here is my test layout
Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 48. (input and crc errors)
When I do this there are input and crc errors on the switch port. This has been confirmed on three different switches and three different outdoor AP's. We though at first it was the injector, but when we run the same setup, but instead connect the device to port 49 with a GLC-T sfp there are no errors.
Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 49 (GLC-T). (No errors)
I have upgraded the 3560G to the latest ios and still it has the same problem. If I run the same setup to a 2960 there are no errors at all.

I have also tried manually setting the speed on the 3560G with no success.

Uhg. I deployed a 3560G a week ago and it was crashing... so I replaced it Sep 7 around 16:00 and now this one is crashing. Different logs.

The device is running OSPF (it is in an NSSA). I have several other devices configured almost the same running the same IOS in my network and they are working fine.This does make the third out-of-box 3560C Cisco that has failed on me within a few days.

I have quite a few 2960's in a manufacturing environment that are experiencing a large number of Total Output Drops. The gigabit uplinks arn't even close to fully subscribed and if I'm lucky they run at a peak of 4 - 5 Mb on a 1Gb uplink. Something really funky is going on. The individual switchports seem to have the total output drops and the uplinks at 1Gb do not have any output drops and never peak above 20Mb over a 3 month span on a 1Gb link.

We are seeing some high output drops on our 3560G's and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to solve this, or should I just be looking at an upgrade.I do not have qos enabled:

QoS ip packet dscp rewrite is enabled
I don't have anything special configured apart from some trunk ports, otherwise its mostly defaults.Should I enable qos and tweak the buffering?

I have a 3560X that is directly connected to an ASA 5505. I am seeing output drops on the 3560X interface that connects to the ASA. Below are the troubleshooting commands I have ran, but I don't see any indication to what is causing the problem.

Have got 2 6500 in VSS. I'm seeing unsual high output drops. IOS Version: advipservicesk9-mz.151-1.SY.bin
Seeing too much output drops on interface ( in millions). When checked buffers ( output pasted below), it also shows enourmous drops.Not too sure, but is this normal or is there something fishy; which needs to be investigated. [code]

We are seeing output drops on a C3560 switchport, this port does not have QoS enabled -- application does not need special qos treatment, as long as packets are not droppd, so I suppose all traffic will share the same queue? then how should I read the output of "show platform port-asic stats drop" which indicates that it is queue 3 weight 2 drop? I am wondering what is the best way to fix this? enable mls QoS and increase queue 3 bandwidth share on this interface or just increase the output queue depth?

I've been working on breaking down and understanding the default auto qos configuration on a Cisco 3750 in the hopes of putting together a QoS strategy that will fit our environment. I'm having some difficulty understanding how the "mls qos queue-set output" syntax works.
From another post, at [URL], the author offers the following example and explanation;
mls qos queue-set output <1/2> threshold 2 400 400 100 400thresshold 1: 400%
thresshold 2: 400%
thresshold 3: 100% (implicit, not configurable)
reserved: 100%
max: 400%
However, I'm having trouble understanding what is meant. Here, it looks like it's saying, for example;
mls qos queue-set output 1 threshold 2 400 400 100 400
How come there is syntax stating "threshold 2" when in the succeeding part the 400 refers to thresshold 1 and threshold 2 again? The syntax 400 400 is, apparently, already referring to thresshold 1 and 2, no?

I have too much output drops in my cisco 7206 VxR NPE G1 router. I'm doing dot1Q on this interface and is connected to switch , i changed the router and IOS but still the error is same . What can be the reason . The interface on switch and router are 1000/Full and i changed the cable also . The traffic only comes about max70Mbps and it is really confusing. [code]

I have two 3560G 24 port switches. Each of them connects to some 3560G or 2950 switches. Trunks between 3560G are set as 1000/full. Trunks between 3560G and 2950 are set as 100/full. show int status also shows the interface negotiation is 100/full for trunks between 3560G and 2950. The issue is I keep getting outdiscard errors in trunks between 3560G and 2950. At 2950 switches, I see Recv-errors too. I checked all the trunks traffic. They are totally not high. Only serveal mbps. Most time even lower than 1mbps.
I googled this kind of issue online. I see it could be possibly caused by high volume traffic higher than the capacity. But it appears the traffic there is not high enough to cause this kind of issue. Is there any possiblity that could cause this problem?
