May 27, 2012Facing issue with 2960G switch , where its do not display "logging trap informational " in show running and show startup .where its showing all other levels from 0 to 5 and 7 after configuration and save commands. [code] after config getting saved , it do not shows in show runn or in show startup while for all other levels it do show the config lines .I tried the same on 12.55.SE release also but its same results . Is this a limitaion of this platform, is there any doc explaining the same for reference. [code]

When I login to the 3750, AAA is used. When I login to the 2960, the local username is used. Any thoughs here as to why it works on the 3850 and not the 2960?

Dec 27, 2012I have a stack of 2 x 3750X switches these are running 12.2(55)SE5. I needed to add some static IP routes and found that the ‘ip routing’ command is not supported. I came across a document that stated “On switches running the LAN base feature, static routing on VLANs is supported only with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(58)SE and later.” So I have upgraded to 12.2(58)SE2, but ‘ip routing’ is still not a valid command.
The release notes state:“On the Cisco Catalyst 3560-X and 3750-X Series, it adds support for 16 static IPv4 routes in the LAN Base image.”
I have read other posts that talk about running the ‘sdm prefer routing’ command which I have done, but I am still unable to add any routes or run the ‘ip routing’ command.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: InterVlan Routing With 3750 And 2960 Switches?
Nov 21, 2012I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

May 21, 2013I have a Cisco SG 300-20 as the core switch, layer 3. It is 192.168.4.6 on VLAN1 and 192.168.5.1 for VLAN2 (VOIP). All the ports are set in trunk mode. DHCP relay is setup on this switch.
The phones connected into a layer 2, Catalyst 2960-S switch. All ports are set in trunk mode. Default gateway on it is set to 192.168.5.1.
DHCP for both VLANs is provided by a Windows Server 2008 R2 server (the relay IP 192.168.4.15).
There is also an ASA 5510 in the mix which is 192.168.4.1. It has a route added to it for the 192.168.5.0 network to go to the SG 300 (192.168.5.1).
Just the two switches can ping each other on the 192.168.5.x network when I "add vlan 2" to the trunk port that is connected between the SG 300 and the 2960. The phones don't get DHCP on the 2960 switch. And I cannot ping 192.168.5.x from the ASA or anything else on the 192.168.4.x network.
After a bit of reading on intra-vlan routing for the SG 300 switch, I am thinking the SG 300 has to be the "center" of things so I need to make it 192.168.4.1 to be the gateway for both VLANs and change the ASA to 192.168.4.2 for VLAN1, etc. And I really can't do asymmetric routing with this switch.

Apr 2, 2013I am trying to convince our Technical Lead that dual VSL links between our 6509-E chassis is a VERY good idea but he is fully convinced that the setup will work perfectly fine with only one VSL link. As I do agree that we can do this, I am looking for more concrete evidence that shows this would be a bad setup.
I know that we will lose the High Availably that comes with VSS, what I don't know is what will happen to all of the downstream switches that are connected and what will happen to the two 6509-E chassis..

Sep 11, 2007On occasion I will have to clear the ARP cache on a 6500 when a customer swapeeds out a firewall or firewall NIC. The ARP cache will show the MAC of the previous device and will not update until either the ARP table refreshes dynamically (currenty at default time) or it is cleared manually.
Sometimes I need to clear it manually and sometimes is is refreshed dynamically when the new device comes up. Inconsistant issue....
Under what circimstances will an ARP entry NOT be refreshed when a firewall or firewall NIC is swapped out.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Running 7 To 9 Switches In One Stack
Aug 6, 2012Looking for feedback from other organizations that have large 3750 stacks. I've got one stack of (8) 3750's composed of (6) 3750G's and (2) plain 3750's. This particular stack is usually unresponsive to SNMP queries and often fails to write config when we make changes. After a couple tries it will finally go. Part of my probably here is likely the plain 3750's that always boot faster and come up as the master. I should manually set the master to one of the G's. What I'm wondering is who else has 7-9 3750's stacked and are they performing well for SNMP, telnet, etc? I've got another newer stack of 7 3750E's that I need to add one more switch to. Need to decide if I want extended downtime to break the stack up or just add the 3750X to make member 8 and hope it performs well. I have 50+ 3750 stacks working great on our campus.

Therefore, I would like to urge you to provide me the 8.7 image which supports all the NAC related commands and will be easier to finish the long pending assignment.
We are in process of replacing the obselete hardware but that will take time.
So, 8.7 K9 CATOS image required.

Jun 3, 2012I have several older 2950's running on my network. This one in particular became of interest to me because I couldn't set up SSH on it or enable any QoS features on it, so I did some research. What I found was there are basically 2 versions of the IOS, c2950-i6q4l2 or c2950-i6k2l2q4. I also read that the c2950-i6q4l2 IOS versions (like the one in the switch I am referring to) have both the SI and EI feature sets integrated, but the one that gets enabled is entirely dependent upon the switch model you are running it on. Did I understand this correctly? Does the IOS check the hardware on the switch and then decide with feature set to use? If so, what is prohibiting the EI feature set from being enabled on this switch? Is there a way to force the EI feature set to be enabled since it is integrated in this image?

Oct 7, 2012I have a customer who has an ASA 5505 that is handling the routing for their internal network. They are running out of available IP addresses on their subnet 192.168.1.0/24. They have dumb switches that don't suppport multiple vlans or trunking & they are only able to connect to one switchport on the ASA. He doesn't not want to purchase any new equipment or rearrange their existing equipment at this time. The customer would like to statically assign IP addesses for 192.168.1.x & 192.168.2.x and have the ASA hand out DHCP addresses for 192.168.3.x addresses. The customer suggested configuring a super subnet. A 192.168.0.0/22 address scheme would provide an ip range 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.3.255 on a single VLAN. I know this is an unconventional way to setup an internal network & I will definitely advise the customer that this should only be considered as a temporary solution until they get more appropriate network equipment.

Dec 26, 2012I'm having a strange problem where I'm not able to get through a Cisco 2960-S L2 switch when connected through vpn, while LAN-WAN traffic is working fine.The situation on site is the following:When inside the network I'm able to get to the internet without a problem. The problem is within a vpn-session. When this session is succesfully started I can ping and manage the Cisco 2960-S switch, but I can't ping or manage the Dell switch from my laptop. Feb 11, 2013we have 2 catalyst 4507 Switches (Catalyst 4507-R running 15.1.2.release) configured in VRRP and vlans are distributed across both the switches.For few vlans core1 is master and for remaining vlans core2 is master.Both cores showing different CPU utilization.when we did our troubleshooting,we realized that the server vlan on core1 (Core1 is master for this vlan) is creating high utilization.when we switched this server vlan to core2 the core1 utilization came down and core2 utilization increased.we identified that server vlan is culprit in this issue. i would like to know weather any method is available in core switch wherein i can check which server in this vlan is contributing for this utilization.(To identify the server which contribute this utilization,we can actually shut 1 server each at time to see weather utilization is going down.with this kind of testing ideally we should be able to identify the server but this will disturb the server environment which we don't want in live environment)
