Jan 30, 2013How the port numbering would be on Sup 7-E and Sup 7L-E? I mean, on Sup-6E and Sup-6LE, if I used a twin-gig converter, I used ports gi3/3,gi3/4,gi3/5 and Gi3/6 [If the sup is in 3rd Slot]. I know there are now 4 ports on the Sup 7 which can either be used as Gig ports or TenGig ports. So, how will the port numbering change ?

Mar 18, 2013when plugging a Cisco 7060 to the specific switch port it does not power on. The inline power consumption is abnormally high compared to the other phones that are plugged in, maybe double the amount.
non Poe devices work on the same port.

Mar 12, 2012Brand new 2960. When I plug a cable into the port, nothing happens. The port light doesn't begin negotiation or anything, it just stays dark. The cable works fine--I have it on another switchport with a crossover connector connecting to a little Cisco SOHO switch without problems.
I've done the following:

switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1
no shutdown
In other words, I've fiddled with it. But I don't know why it doesn't light up..

Feb 13, 2013I have issue with Cisco Router 2801's Console Port. My student was doing a lab and he said during configuration, Console Port stopped responding. He was in middle of configuration, so now at present, only telnet is able to login on "R2>" user mode, enable password is not set, so getting "R2>en % No password set R2>" I have tried different terminal software but no output from Console Port, changed the Console Cables, replace with working console cables, change speed (baud) settings. Also tried to connect same console with "AUX" port and got same error mentioned above. AUX Port responds but I am not able to change mode (R2#) because of incomplete running-config. it seems "Console Port" is physically damaged.

Apr 9, 2013I am upgrading from 3750-E IOS 12.2 to 3750-X IOS 15.0
I have a dhcp pool set up to give out an ip address based on the Physical port of the switch. I also have it configured to give out "reserved only" addresses.
The configuration works when i plug a dhcp device in the 3750E. (IOS12.2) The configuration does not work when i use the same config on 3750X (IOS15)
When i debug dhcp, i see the DHCP discover message come in, but no offers or anykind of response from the 3750X.
If i remove the "reserved only" line the switch gives out IPs, but of ocurse not the ones i want. I did that to prove both the client and the switch can give out an IP.
So i have a feeling the subscriber-id client-id interface name mapping is not right, or not created.

Dec 11, 2012We purchased a number of 3750X 48 and 24 port switches for the College Campus. Am finally getting around to getting them inserted on the network. Working with a WS-3750X-48PF-S and a WS-3750X-24P-L. Have them stacked with the 10Gb uplink on the 48 port switch. Have not been having fun.In the boot sequence, the switches recognize they are stacked, but as soon as they finish boot, I get the message on the 48 port switch: “Stack Port 1 Switch 1 has changed to state down.” Then “Stack Port 2 Switch1 has changed to state down.” Am noticing that I have a message preceding that: “Major version mismatch with stack neighbor.”The 48 port is running c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2.The 24 port is running c3750e-unversalk9-mz.122-55.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2Most of our 3750X and older switches are running 122-55 or 122.58 code. IP base or Universal. There is speculation that the problem is the 24 Port is Lan base, as the part number might indicate. (WS-C3750X-24-P-L.... I think that is the part number) and the 48 is IP base. Both switches are Universal, and my understanding is that they don't care about LAN or IP Base until you enable a function that falls in the IP Base domain. Then I have to call Cisco Licensing.For these switches, LAN Base is fine, based on the boot message, I feel the real problem is 122-55 versus 150-1 in the stack. So.. the question is: Do I downgrade the 48 port to match what we have in our environment, and what is on the 24 port switch. Or... Upgrade the 24 port switch to match the 48 port switch and have an installation that is not consistent with our environment? I do have two more edge closets to install with this purchase of 3750X 48 port switches.

Jan 11, 2012we've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?

Feb 20, 2012I have a 4510R-E chassis which currently has a single supervisor 5 installed.
We are now looking at upgrading the supervisor to a Sup6. Now the question is this, can I install the Sup6 into the redundant cpu slot and then perform a failover to get the new switch working without any noticable downtime.
I'm not sure what having a Sup V and a Sup 6 in at the same time will do to the backplane.
Otherwise I have to take the switch down and then install the card and software manually.

Oct 16, 2012We are trying to upgrade the IOS on one of our 6509 switches. We have two 720 10GE supervisors running in SSO. Our procedure is reload the standby supervisor with the new IOS. We understand that you can only use one console connection when in RPR mode so we rely on the active supervisor giving us information that the standby unit is up and running.
The problem we have is that when we do a "show Module" on the switch the online diagnostics for the standby supervisor comes back us unknown. [code] We believe the active supervisor can see the standby supervisor because when we save the configuration we get a message saying that the config is sync'd with the standby router. We have a TAC case raised to investigate. We are upgrading from 12.2(33) SXI1 to 12.2(33) SXJ3

Within the CLI, I am presented two options with the "format" command - bootflash: and sup-bootflash:. Bootflash: does not have any data on it, however, sup-bootflash: contains my IOS image. I believe that both of these locations are simply directories within NVRAM.

At the moment the two supervisors are in SSO mode and after reading many articles it says that when the images are different on the two supervisors they are in RPR mode. When you then reload the active supervisor it will reboot all the line cards.
1. Is above correct? Will my line card reload?
2. We also have a FWSM installed, When/If the line cards are rebooted does the FWSM also reboot?

We now have SupA & SupB in the chassis, due to some mistake we have same IOS version but different feature set on them, although we configured redundancy mode sso, in the "show redundancy" we see Operating Redundancy Mode = rpr due to Software mismat, we now need to fix them as same feature set image, if I use "copy sup-bootdisk0:/xxxx slavesup-bootdisk0:/xxx", then write memory, does this cause any service/network interuption?

How about after we make the Operating Redundancy Mode as sso, will this behaviour shows again? Or a stateful failover will happens, then modules no need reload?
3. We are using OSPF as our L3 routing protocol, after reference to the configuration, nsf should be enabled, we want to ask in the OSPF-domain nsf should be configured in all OSPF-enabled router or only 6500 which have dual-sup?

We also found that the interfaces(3 * Gig & 2 * TenG) in Standby supervisor cannot be use even enabled & configured, is it because we are running rpr mode now or will be the same even change to sso? Before customer have some older supervisor in 6500 non-e chassis, and they can use the standby supervisor interfaces as traffic forwarding, they use rpr-plus mode before, how about in sso mode?
