Cisco Switching/Routing :: Upgrade Catalyst 2960S And 3560x
Jun 20, 2012
i want upgrade my catalyst 2960S and 3560x at midnight, but i am worried about config loss. If i upgrade my switch throught web interface, will need I reconfigure the switch?
if a connect to the switch via Internet Explorer or every other browser I can't enter configuration because I receive a screen as you can view in image below. And I can view those errors:
message: 're_preFlt_txt33' is not defined Linea: 31 Carattere: 1 Codice: 0 URI:

If I connect in HTTPS with IE8 in compatibility mode I view the image as in attachment with_https.jpg.
We have two catalyst 3560X 24T-S switches connected on two separate LANs (both the networks are redundant to each other). The last port of the switches are connected together?
I'm trying to upgrade some of the netwotk in my workplace. To do this I have istalled a 24port Catalyst 3560X switch.I'm looking to link it to my exsisting network via fibre.
I spoke to a local Cisco supplyer who recomended the above switch and an Allied Telesis Media converter.
I cannot seem to get the Allied Telesis unit to connect to the cisco switch.I have proved the fibre link by connecting 2 AT Media converters over the fibre.Do I have to enable something on the Catalyst switch or is the AT Media converter not compatible with the Catalyst switch?
Need to clarify if ip sla icmp echo operation is supported in catalyst 3kx switches (ip services)? on the configuration guide, commands are available, but on the feature navigator, i can't find the feature, only ip sla video operation. i don't have a device to test on here.
Do you have the ability to setup DHCP servers on this layer 3 switch? I know I can with my old 3550 switch. Want to upgrade and make sure this model supports setting up dhcp servers on it.
Just I have upgraded some 2960S to IOS 15.0(2)SE from a IOS 15.0(1)SE3 and the catalyst don't switch any IPv6 traffic. Don't work any RA and also don't work any unicast IPv6 traffic from any interface. I can see some references to IPv6 changes in the FHS (First Hop Security) in the Release Notes, but no any reference to changes in the configuration.
The switches don't have any IPv6 specific configuration and the sdm is the default templata. Returning to 15.0(1)SE3 everything work ok.
On Catalyst 2960, and 3560E this IOS version seem to work fine with IPv6.
we have Catalysts 2960S for switching in our Wireless high capacity backbone network. As agregation switch we are using 3560x.
I just need to know, if are these 2960S good solution for igmp snooping for whole IPTV stream. It put only a range from backbone and put out on another port. But just specified multicast addresses.
Imput will be 239.128.0.10 to 239.128.0.20 on Gi 0/1,Output wil be 239.128.0.10 - 15 on Gi 0/24
IPTV will be separated on different VLAN for eg VLAN 20,Is needed any priorization configured od switches?,The capacity for IPTV is around 500 mbps
I recently tried to manually format the flash on a model WS-2960S-48TS-L switch running IOS version 15.0(2)SE. While executing the operation I got the following error - mifs[8]: Failed to create superblock %Error formatting flash (I/O error). As a result the flash is no longer accessible by the switch. I spoke with Cisco and they indicated that a switch reload would remount the flash and make it accessable again but the .bin file would need to be reloaded using the xModem recovery procedure (what a pain). The next IOS version 15.0(2)SE1 will supposedly fix this bug but it has not been released yet. In the meantime if you are running 15.0(2)SE you may want to hold off performing a "format flash:" function on a 2960S.
We are using catalyst 2960S Lan Base IOS on Radio towers. We just bought 50 Accest points, thas are GPS synchronized. Problem is the APs need to be connected on L2-mac betwen each other. But at this time we are using port isolation on each switch (tower) by protected port function to isolate clients from each other.
My question is, is possible to specifi a Mac addresses in specific vlan thats can comunicate betwen protected ports? On tower is one Master unit and others are slave. I thing there is only 1 dirrection comunication - from master to slave.
specifying Cisco devices and I've made an error.I have 2 Catalyst 2960S switches (C2960S-24PS-L).Based on this snippet of web copy from the Cisco website:What's new for the Cisco Catalyst 2960-S Series Switches with LAN Base Software: # 10 and 1 Gigabit Ethernet uplink flexibility with Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+), providing business continuity and fast transition to 10 Gigabit Ethernet I bought a cable assembly "SFP-H10GB-CU3M" (3 meter copper twinax cable with 10GB SFPs on each end). Unfortunately, it appears after more careful reasearch that my specific model 2960S's are not directly compatible. , can I force these 10GB SFPs down to 1GB and get them to work with my switches or do I need to return and repurchase?
I just bought a Catalyst 2960S to test out the feature "Port-Based Address Allocation" which is required for our factory. I followed the instruction from Cisco IOS and did all the steps but I could not get it to work, my network client did not received the expected IP address that I configured.
Multicast is not working between our two datacenter, we have catalyst 2960S (two stacked) as the internal lan switch, and catalyst 3560E as the external switch, same configuration for both datacenters. The two sites are connected using metro, the external switch (3560) is doing qinq and encapsulate the data from the internal switch with the metro vlan (611).
IGMP snooping is disabled for all switches, although we prefer to enable it for the internal switches. For each datacenter there is a different firewall which also act as the router, we are using fortigate as the firewall.Following is the important configuration section:
Port 43 in the internal switch is connected to the external switch (both sites):
I am administering a Catalyst 2960S switch and I would like to connect several computers to it. Some of those each have a static IP address. For a few of them, I would like the switch to dynamically assign an IP address to them via DHCP. Is the switch capable of doing this? If so, how can I do it? I tried looking through Cisco Network Assistant and I couldn't find it. Some web pages have suggested I telnet into the switch and issue commands like "ip dhcp ?" to see what commands are possible. I can telnet in and if I type but I get an "Unrecognized command" for both "ip ?" and "ip dhcp ?". This makes me think I'm reading the wrong web pages. I did come across the term "DHCP snooping". It seems relevant, but very difficult for me to grasp.
after upgrading about 35 Catalyst 2960 and Catalyst 2960S to IOS 15.0(2)SE2, we experience a memory leak on several switches. After some days / weeks the switches are not accessible via Console/Telnet/SSH/Web any more. Only SNMP seems to work properly.Attached users do not experience any decrease in service.
Trying to connect to the console, we get following error message:
"% Low on memory; try again later"
The only (temporary) solution is to reboot the switch. The behavior is similar to Bug CSCts52797.With regards to the Bug notes this bug should only affect Catalyst 2960 with 64MB of RAM and should already be solved with IOS 15.0(2)SE2.
We have a Cat2960-S Series PoE+ currently running 12.2(55) SE5 ios with SW image C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M.We want to upgrade the ios to the lastest version but found there are 2 version: 12.2(53) SE2 and 15.0(1) SE.Which is the best & suitable for upgrade?
applied an iOS update to a stack via tftp. I used the archive Download-sw tftp:// method. I rebooted the stack after complete and it never came back up. I discovered the master switch upgraded but not the member. The member was sitting there with all amber lights on and frozen after the iOS load. The master wouldn't finish boot until I removed the member from the stack. I had a version mismatch and they would not communicate.
I have 2 Catalyst 2960S-switches configured in a stack. The uplink is configured as a cross-stack etherchannel. Now I want to upgrade the stack with a minimum of downtime for the connected hosts. The hosts are connected to the stack via cross-stack etherchannels. So my question is: How can I upgrade the stack and reboot the members with a minimum of downtime? If I use the archive download-sw command with the /reload-option, the stack is reloaded and the result will be downtime for the hosts while th stack is reloading. Is it possible to upgrade the stack and then reboot the members one by one in a controlled manner?
I am trying to find out what the most upto date IOS I can put in my Cisco Catalyst 3500 XL switch, and I'm not sure if this the newest software. I have a lab setup at my house to study for the CCNP certs and this IOS doesn't have all the commands I need, well it might but all depracated commands.
I need to upgrade a Catalyst IOS, but I got a bit confused. The catalyst is currently running "c2960-lanbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin", but I want to upgrade to "c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin", in order to enable ssh. [code] What are the appropriate steps in order to upgrade to "c2960-lanbasek9-mz. 122- 35. SE5.bin". I have downloaded the tar file (c2960-lanbasek9-tar.122-35.SE5.tar)
1) Do I have to delete the old directory (drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 02:07:21 +02:00 c2960-lanbase-mz.122-35.SE5)? 2) Are these the correct steps to download and extract the IOS? 3) Where will the tar files be extracted? Will an new directory be made or do I have to make one manually?
Got 2 pcs. of C2950G-24-EI which are both running 12.1(9)EA1. Now I was thinking to upgrade them to the latest available (12.1.22-EA14), but before I do this task I'd like to know if there's a way to check in advance if those images will run. Any way to check about available memory or memory needs?
I have upgraded my Catalyst 3750X-switches to software-version 15.0(2)SE2, but I cannot upgrade the 10G servicemodule to the same version. I use the archive download-sw command to load the c3kx-sm10g-tar.150-2.SE2.tar. The file is loaded to the switch, but when the process starts to transfer the file to the module it fails with the following messages:
Error 2: Unable to transfer image to FRU Modul on switch 1Error: Failed to update FRU Module image
The modules is now running with in-compatible versions as shown below:
Switch# H/W Status (CPU/FPGA) CPU Link Version ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1 OK 77C/71C ver-mismatch 03.00.41 2 OK 73C/73C ver-mismatch 03.00.41
I have to upgrade two Cisco Catalyst 6509E from Catos to IOS. I would want to know the requirements hardware or software for upgrading. Which are the recommended images I must download? From cat6000-sup32pfc3k9.8-4-5 to the latest stable version of IOS, is it recomended to pass to another previously version before?
I have viewed the following links,[URL]but, it doesn`t mention anything about that. The image below is the result of the "show version" command of one of our Cisco Catalyst.

I want to run rolling-stack upgrades on several stacks containing Catalyst 3750X-switches. I have done as follows: Configured the redundant uplinks as active and stand-by.Started to upgrade by using archive download-sw /rolling-stack-upgrade /overwrite /reload The upgrade starts as expected BUT switch number 2 in the stack is reloaded BEFORE switch 1 is finnished, the result is of course downtime for the stack. The documentation says something about the command "boot time", but what is this command doing? The default seems to be 7 minutes, it this parameter the time the upgrade-process waits before booting the next switch in the stack? I would expect that switch number 2 is reloaded when switch 1 is up again after reload, and not after an absolute number of minutes, is the rolling-stack-upgrade not working this way ?
I have read that the 3750-X supports upgrading with minimal traffic lost with RSU feature, on the configuration guide the scnario is with the end user connected to the 3750-X stack with LACP and the uplinks to the network running STP, one uplink is forwarding and the other is blocked. I have the same scenario but for the network uplink i also have LACP. When i tried to configured the RU stanby one of the uplink LACP the switch gives an error.
I have Catalyst 6509 E with redudant SUP720-3B (and MSFC3) running 12.2(18)SXF6 IP Services Lan Only IOS (this IOS requires 512MB DRAM and 64MB of flash) SUP has 512MB DRAM (458720K/65536K) and 512MB sup-bootdisk:, but, there is65536K bytes of Flash internal SIMM (Sector size 512K).
My question is can I put 12.2(33)SXJ3 IP Services Lan Only IOS to this 6500 because this IOS requires 512MB DRAM and 512MB od flash? This is "sh ver" and "dir all-filesystems" of my 6500:

My management has tasked me to give them a high level overview of the different switching we can choose for our new building.
This is what I know so far.4 Closets, each closet has 450 ports,One MDF room that is will contain one UCS Chassis and a Nimble iSCSI SAN.
I am working on the spreadsheet and it looks like this (Not totally filled):
